Hi all,
I need help getting my APN to save. I use Cricket Wireless and their APN settings are here: http://buzzmobile.us/cricket-apn-settings/
The problem is the MNC is 004 for Cricket, but changing the MNC to that makes the APN not save. I tried adding the APN line by line to see which setting made the APN disappear, and it's MNC. I've had this problem now on Mahdi 5/28, Mahdi 6/15, and now Paranoid Android RC2. My phone is the D801.
It does seem to sometimes work if I change the MNC. The APN will disappear from the list every time, but sometimes it will set the APN correctly and give me LTE, but only until I reboot the phone and then it's back to not working. This morning it doesn't appear to be working even if I re-enter the APN, though.
Why does this problem exist on multiple ROMs (saving APN settings seems like REALLY basic functionality to me) and how do I fix it? And why do I see several search results saying "don't change MCC or MNC" when clearly that is incorrect advice? If Cricket says MNC is 004 and some random forum people say Cricket is wrong, well... sorry, but Cricket would know better than you guys (those who say to not change it).
Thanks
EDIT: I //THOUGHT I// FOUND A SOLUTION! Instead of APN type "internet" I decided to try "internet, default" and immediately LTE came on. I don't understand why it worked without setting MNC when I changed this, but hey, it worked and I am happy at the moment. However, it would still be nice to see devs fix the MNC problem. I'd delete this thread but I see no option to do so. Mods can delete it if they feel like it. Or they can leave it up in case someone else has the same problem and wants to try the potential workaround of adding the ",default" to APN type. I'd still like to change the MNC to what Cricket says to use, though, because they wouldn't tell us to change it if it didn't do anything.
EDIT 2: Workaround doesn't seem to work. I get a proxy failed error. It says LTE but nothing seems to be able to use it. I think I need the MNC changed after all. Is there any developer who has this working right? It's really frustrating to go through multiple ROMs/versions only for incredibly basic functionality to not work.
Edit 3: USB tethering seems to work, but nothing on the phone itself. Weird! AAAND now I took the ",default" back out and LTE seems to be there again. Testing the phone now. I wonder if there was some sort of data outage in my area earlier that was causing issues. And I just rebooted the phone and now LTE is gone again (and I made sure the APN was selected)... This is seriously messed up. My phone is behaving extremely inconsistently and I want to throw it at a wall at full strength at the moment.

Android reads the MNC from the SIM. APNs with MNCs that are different than the SIM's will be hidden. Unless you are using your G2 on the legacy Cricket CDMA network you should be using the settings on the Cricket website https://www.cricketwireless.com/sup...ice-byod/customer/bring-your-own-android.html

Huh. I wonder why I didn't see that link when I was Googling for the settings. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the link.
Odd thing is it's worked on and off with the old settings, including setting the MNC to 004 (even though it did make the entry disappear). I don't understand it. I guess it doesn't matter, though, if these other settings work. Inconsistency is the most frustrating thing, because it's not obvious that your settings are wrong if they work sometimes but not others...
Edit: I can confirm the settings from that link are working... for the moment. I absolutely would not be surprised if it just randomly stops working again in the next 24h. Maybe I'll get a different phone when that happens.
I did live chat with Cricket Wireless and asked them to make sure the link you gave comes up for the search I did which was "cricket wireless apn settings android". Hopefully they will listen to my feedback so nobody else gets caught in this trap. Anyway, thanks again.
It would also be nice if Android would tell you why it's hiding an APN you just added... I wonder if devs could add an informative text about that.
Hi, a few days ago, i have trouble with the wifi in my tab 4, model sm-t230nu, has not been dropped, only and maybe, i root and install a couple of apps, inclusive with the modem near, 50cm aprox, the problem is the same, every 5 or 6minutes the tablet cant connect with the wifi but the little icon of the signal still appear with excellent signal..... to resolve this problem, i need to disconnect the wifi in the tablet and recharge this.....
what can i do?
??? anybody could help me?
Just got off with samsung support try this http://tinyurl.com/nfbgxds

I have two of these devices and they both do the same thing as you are describing. They are "connected" to the wifi but they will no connect to the internet. This happens over and over and over. It can happen on both devices 7-8 times in a few hours. I called Samsung and they said it was my router. I called AT&T and they said it was the devices. I also have a Tab3 10.1 and I never have this problem, All of other wifi devices do not have this problem. It has to have something to do with the SM-T230NU. I noticed there was a software update for the device this morning so I am hoping there is a fix included.
If some others can chime in that are having the same problem with the SM-T230NU maybe we can at least get Samsung to acknowledge the issue because right now they are in denial.
I'm not getting disconnects (at least on this first day with the t230nu) but the WiFi signal strength is considerably less than my Note 3 in the same room as the Tab 4. Probably related?
I actually get total disconnects. I'll be playing a game or browsing the web and suddenly no internet connection and about a second later I see the toast message that it's now connected to Wi-Fi. If I reboot the tablet, it seems to work fine again for a while, but after a day or two, it does it again.
check build prop
I just received this tab 4, 7 inch and I am having this same WiFi connection issue. I have looked through the build prop and found two conflicting lines.
ro.carrier=wifi only
And
ro.carrier=unknown
Now the WiFi only line makes sense since my tab is a WiFi only model, but the unknown line usually means an open type data carrier. I have commented out the "unknown" line and will post back if it makes a difference.
So far it has been little over a week and I have not noticed the connection trouble since making the change.

by what do you mean by this? Did you change something on the build.prop coz I am also experiencing the same, I've been to Samsung service center and what they just did is update the software that did nothing but to do the same thing. Would you mind telling us a bit more of what you did please???
My 7" suffers from this same annoying problem. Can this be Fixed with the build.prop without being rooted?
no sorry making changes to the build prop require root.
and commenting out lines simply means to add a pound symbol to the begining of the line.
so for example
ro_carrier=unknown
will become
#ro_carrier=unknown
but i beleave the fix also requires setting your ip address to static and not automatic dhcp
Did anyone try my link? Solved my issues works like a champ now!

If your rooted use an app called build prop editor or some sort. Then just find those and set them as said in the post.
when i did the # symbol it still didnt fix my wifi problem

This link isn't working for me. Do you recall the title of the support document, or what the steps were? I'm having this problem too and would love to see what Samsung recommended.
Having a very similar problem

Just flashed Biggins 8.3 - and it's generally up and running fine. I am trying to adjust the APN settings, however i can't add a new APN or adjust the settings of the current APN. Anyone else see this?

I just ran into the same issue. I installed Biggins Rom about 3 weeks ago, and yesterday my 4G/LTE stopped working. So, I looked at my APN settings, and all of the fields were set to none. I tried to edit, but it wouldn't let me. I tried to add a new APN, but the "+" button was greyed out. After turning off mobile data a few times, switching network modes, and rebooting my phone, I was able to get 4G/LTE working again. I tried to do some research on the APN setting, and I think it may have something to do with either the SIM Card or it could be that Verizon just doesn't want anybody messing with those settings. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help.
Hi I have a samsung galaxy s7 edge SM-G935FD unlocked , have been using it for a while and use it mostly for the 4G hotspot for my laptop , I have a new wifi AC adaptor on my laptop which connects to other access points no problem, however seems that while the S7 edge will connect to a 5ghz Access point, the function of 5ghz mobile hotspot under the "broadcast channel" seems to be disabled from advanced options as it just does not appear to be there .
If i turn off wifi sharing , the advanced options for selecting the channel on 2.4ghz appears but nothing for 5ghz.
I am wondering if it is disabled in some regions for some obscure reason, and if perhaps i install a different rom that has the function available , has anyone noticed this as days of searching google i find how to's on turning on the option on the same model but the option is not available on mine.
Now Ive asked Samsung support and they were pathetic the operator didn't even seem to know what wifi AC was , let alone that i was asking about the hotspot feature rather then connecting to an access point , but really did not provide any useful information , in the end i gave up talking to them as they clearly had no clue.
On a Samsung S7 configuration page here :
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00047789/
under the "configure hotspot " it clearly shows an image of the Configure hotspot Advanced options having the option of selecting the 2.4ghz band or 5ghz band , yet that option is not on my phone , and that makes me sad
I am wondering if this option can be enabled in some way with a custom or rooted rom , and what others have under advanced options and what rom / location they are running.
Hope someone can help , theres not much said about it anywhere.
thanks
S8+the same issue
I can not find my 5ghz hotspot broadcast channel option too.
I am pretty sure that it's not g930/g935 f/fd manual . I have both flat and edge version ( both exynos ) and there is no option for 2.4 or 5ghz !
My old G4 had this option to choose, but I can't in a newer Samsung S7, go figure...
5GHz WiFi Hotspot Solution
I'm using the Galaxy S7 Duos (SM-G935FD) running Oreo 8.0 rooted. This issue bothered me for a while because I had the same problem ... No option to run my hotspot on 5GHz band. In my case, I wanted to run 5GHz to avoid interference caused by my household microwave oven (which operates at 2.4GHz).
So here's what worked for me - your mileage may vary ...
First off, you have to be rooted.
Second, though there are probably other options, I strongly recommend using the app "CSC Features Expert" by Wanam (a brilliant developer).
So open CSC Features Expert, and tap on where it says "Used features only!". You'll get a drop-down selection where you'll want to select "Wifi". Now below that you'll see a bunch of esoteric options. Scroll down until you see the option "Support Mobile Ap 5 G". Tap on that, and a small window will pop up allowing you to edit the CSC feature value. You'll want to enter the text "TRUE" (without quotations) and then tap on "Save".
Reboot your phone, and you should have the ability to set 5GHz band under "Advanced Options" in your Hotspot configuration.
Hope this helps some people. ?

Hello
I am working on the same problem, and I'm on NFE port 9.0, which this app isn't working. However, I find one of these "other option", that is modifiy the cscfeature.xml file manually.
Unfortunately, there is no <SupportMobileAp5G> tag in my cscfeature.xml. I tired add it myself, under the <SupportMobileApOnTrigger> tag. It doesn't do anything.
I also download a Oreo rom, unpack it, check its cscfeature.xml. Still no luck.
So it will be so kind if you tells me which rom are you using at the moment you post this.
Thank you

Hi there. Like I said, I was running Oreo 8.0 (stock) ROM at the time. Since then, I've already sold the S7 I was using and upgraded to the S10+. Sorry I can't provide any further assistance with this issue anymore. Best of luck!
Hello,
On my s7 edge I did manage to activate the 5ghz WiFi hotspot (I used as described above CSC Features).
However: the mobile hotspot is working, yet no other device is able to see it. The other devices and the S7 edge successfully join my home 5ghz.
The one thing I am suspicious about is the number 149 appearing under the 5ghz switch - see the attached picture. I suppose this is the channel a and if I manage to change it the 5ghz mobile hotspot will be visible.
So my questions are:
1. How to change the channel?
2. Can you please recommend me a custom rom where the 5ghz mobile hotspot just works?
I've been having an issue for about a month now. The mobile data will not turn on no matter what I do. I can join WIFI and browse just fine though.
My phone is Oneplus 6t Mcclaren edition. About phone is showing it's an A6013, even though my provider is Verizon. Could that be an issue? Again though, this only started a month ago.
I have tried doing all the recommended fixes on most forums, reset to defaults, reinstall sim, etc.
Dialing ##UPDATE# gives me "USSD code running..." and then "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."
I'm running Lineage 17.1, Dec 3rd 2020 release.
I was considering just restoring stock ROM and seeing if that fixes things. Does that sound like the best next step?
@jaegercng
I used to use a CDMA carrier (Sprint) back in the Nexus 5, Galaxy Nexus days but quickly learned gsm is the one to have if you are in to modding Android because that's what most the world uses and everything was/is always more "out the box" compatible if you had a gsm carrier. Does Lineage 17.1 support Verizon?
You can try the old apn xml data fix that's been around for many years. Just
delete your /apns-conf.xml/ file in your /system/etc/ and also in /system/product/etc/ and replacing only the one in /system/etc/ with the one I'm attaching then set permissions on the new apns-conf.xml file to 0644 using root explorer or whatever you use that can access root directories on your device. After that go to settings/networks and internet/mobile networks/access point names/ in top right hit the three dots, select "reset to default" apn , your data will come on then, "if it's an apn issue." If and when LTE shows up in your status bar just reboot system once and you'll be good from that point onward. For your data/LTE to come on after you reset apn to default it shouldn't take more than about two minutes. This could very well be it. You could have maybe installed an update at some point that had the apns-conf.xml file wrong. You could also maybe have a messed up sim.. I use metro by t-mobile. When metro was metro pcs before t-mobile acquired them they were great. Now I have times my data/LTE just isn't present at all. I toggle airplane mode on and off so I can get my data to work or when they throttle the hell outta me. Hope this helps. It's worth a shot.
