[Q] Biggins 8.3 APN settings question - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just flashed Biggins 8.3 - and it's generally up and running fine. I am trying to adjust the APN settings, however i can't add a new APN or adjust the settings of the current APN. Anyone else see this?

I just ran into the same issue. I installed Biggins Rom about 3 weeks ago, and yesterday my 4G/LTE stopped working. So, I looked at my APN settings, and all of the fields were set to none. I tried to edit, but it wouldn't let me. I tried to add a new APN, but the "+" button was greyed out. After turning off mobile data a few times, switching network modes, and rebooting my phone, I was able to get 4G/LTE working again. I tried to do some research on the APN setting, and I think it may have something to do with either the SIM Card or it could be that Verizon just doesn't want anybody messing with those settings. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help.

[Q] Lost APN after flashing Royal Ginger 1.6. What do I put?

My mobile data works, but when I went to "quick settings", a freeware apk from the market to adjust settings all on one screen, I can turn mobile data on or off because it's grayed out-- and says "no apn configured".
Well, I turn off wifi and I'm driving around, and wireless data works, so something must be configured. This is a clean flash of RG 1.6 and all I entered was my home wifi data.
But if mobile data works, why does it claim I dont have an APN configured? In RG, I picked T-Mobile as my carrier (havent gone into those settings before since everything just worked after then flash). What else do I need to put in, and where?
Thanks
PS- my wife's MT4G is unrooted--stock 2.2.1. Can I use the APN backup program free on market to back hers up, and then restore the APN to mine Will it know where to put it if I"m running Royal Ginger instead of Stock?
i found and tried this in the interim
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12309162&postcount=2
and now my mobiledata settings are not grayed out. lights up green in royal ginger 1.6.
update: elvis uploaded a screenshot of newer apn settings in the same tread but i can't get the jpg to load more than 50%... apparently the initial settings are incomplete for full functionality?

CM11 Nighlies not saving APN Settings [Possible Solution]

Okay so I am from South Africa on the MTN carrier, and recently while switching between CM and Omega Roms, I noticed I was unable to save the APN settings that enabled mobile data. I searched the internet far for a solution and many people have had this issue on MTN. When I set the APN settings in a Samsung ROM such as Omega, it works fine, I have internet connection. If I however save it in CM11, it won't save. I'd hit save and the list would just be empty. A smartphone without a data connection isn't exactly useful to me.
I remembered that this wasn't always the case, I have been able in the past to save APN settings, and they worked. So I downloaded an old version of CM (28/02) and set the APN settings without a hassle, then flashed the latest (16/03) over that and the APN settings stuck. They are still working. This seems to me like a bug in CM software.
Hope this might help someone who has trouble with APN Settings.

[Q] Frequently lose APN / mobile data

Hello,
It seems I frequently lose my APN and Mobile data. Every 30-40 mins if not used, it's gone.
I have to go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names>APN (not set)>and type in: vzwinternet... a few seconds later it pulls the data and works fine. The next time I need it, gone.
I'm running Hyperdrive ROM at the moment but have tested Jellybean, Baja and a few others with the same issue.
I have reformated, deleted and wiped all rom slots in safestrap.
My search of this forum and of google yields me a previous issue similar to this on an LG from 2011, and google reveals people looking for APN settings but no real solution.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

its not big problem. if you can't access the apn then just use the apn of you prepaid.(your phone must be rooted and restarted). but knew that this phone gets the anp automatically.

It's not prepaid. It's not a big problem, just annoying. After I set the APN to vzwinternet, I save it. It still does not hold the settings. I am rooted, obviously, had have re-booted, and tried with other roms as well and have the same result.

[Q] APN settings help (EDIT 5000: Solved!)

Hi all,
I need help getting my APN to save. I use Cricket Wireless and their APN settings are here: http://buzzmobile.us/cricket-apn-settings/
The problem is the MNC is 004 for Cricket, but changing the MNC to that makes the APN not save. I tried adding the APN line by line to see which setting made the APN disappear, and it's MNC. I've had this problem now on Mahdi 5/28, Mahdi 6/15, and now Paranoid Android RC2. My phone is the D801.
It does seem to sometimes work if I change the MNC. The APN will disappear from the list every time, but sometimes it will set the APN correctly and give me LTE, but only until I reboot the phone and then it's back to not working. This morning it doesn't appear to be working even if I re-enter the APN, though.
Why does this problem exist on multiple ROMs (saving APN settings seems like REALLY basic functionality to me) and how do I fix it? And why do I see several search results saying "don't change MCC or MNC" when clearly that is incorrect advice? If Cricket says MNC is 004 and some random forum people say Cricket is wrong, well... sorry, but Cricket would know better than you guys (those who say to not change it).
Thanks
EDIT: I //THOUGHT I// FOUND A SOLUTION! Instead of APN type "internet" I decided to try "internet, default" and immediately LTE came on. I don't understand why it worked without setting MNC when I changed this, but hey, it worked and I am happy at the moment. However, it would still be nice to see devs fix the MNC problem. I'd delete this thread but I see no option to do so. Mods can delete it if they feel like it. Or they can leave it up in case someone else has the same problem and wants to try the potential workaround of adding the ",default" to APN type. I'd still like to change the MNC to what Cricket says to use, though, because they wouldn't tell us to change it if it didn't do anything.
EDIT 2: Workaround doesn't seem to work. I get a proxy failed error. It says LTE but nothing seems to be able to use it. I think I need the MNC changed after all. Is there any developer who has this working right? It's really frustrating to go through multiple ROMs/versions only for incredibly basic functionality to not work.
Edit 3: USB tethering seems to work, but nothing on the phone itself. Weird! AAAND now I took the ",default" back out and LTE seems to be there again. Testing the phone now. I wonder if there was some sort of data outage in my area earlier that was causing issues. And I just rebooted the phone and now LTE is gone again (and I made sure the APN was selected)... This is seriously messed up. My phone is behaving extremely inconsistently and I want to throw it at a wall at full strength at the moment.

Android reads the MNC from the SIM. APNs with MNCs that are different than the SIM's will be hidden. Unless you are using your G2 on the legacy Cricket CDMA network you should be using the settings on the Cricket website https://www.cricketwireless.com/sup...ice-byod/customer/bring-your-own-android.html

Huh. I wonder why I didn't see that link when I was Googling for the settings. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the link.
Odd thing is it's worked on and off with the old settings, including setting the MNC to 004 (even though it did make the entry disappear). I don't understand it. I guess it doesn't matter, though, if these other settings work. Inconsistency is the most frustrating thing, because it's not obvious that your settings are wrong if they work sometimes but not others...
Edit: I can confirm the settings from that link are working... for the moment. I absolutely would not be surprised if it just randomly stops working again in the next 24h. Maybe I'll get a different phone when that happens.
I did live chat with Cricket Wireless and asked them to make sure the link you gave comes up for the search I did which was "cricket wireless apn settings android". Hopefully they will listen to my feedback so nobody else gets caught in this trap. Anyway, thanks again.
It would also be nice if Android would tell you why it's hiding an APN you just added... I wonder if devs could add an informative text about that.

XT1625 MMS Not working

I have an Amazon Prime XT1625 on H20 wireless (via AT&T networks) and cannot get the MMS to work. Interestingly, it DID work for a day with the phone in the beginning then stopped working.
Originally purchased back in october. Trying to wipe the AMZN bloat and root the phone I soft bricked it. I followed this thread and unbricked it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4/help/soft-bricked-prime-exclusive-xt1625-t3470693/ ). Currently loaded with XT1625-XT1644_ATHENE_RETUS_MPJ24.139 firmware.
The MMS did work the first day and that was it. For the last 3 months no MMS. I have copied both H20 wireless' official recommended APN settings again and again and also tried using the same APN settings from my previous phone (same sim & service), but none are working to either send or receive. H20 wireless customer service eventually gave up and blamed it on the phone saying because it is not an official AT&T phone it works on different MHz - LOL!
Dialed *#*#4636#*#* and messed around with switching "SET PREFERRED NETWORK TYPE" dropdown, cycling through the LTE options (did not perform reboot between each though). Also tried "turning on sms over IMS", but nothing worked.
What's odd is at one point it did work at one point. I do not know if something happened during loading the firmware after the softbrick or something else.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Of course, I'm hoping it's a hidden switch or menu, but I'm open to reloading new firmware as well. In fact, I was looking to upgrade to Nougat but I see that there are only soaps available and no official release yet, so I wanted to post this first.
Thanks!
Have you tried a factory reset? Sounds like after the soft brick you messed up the MMS service.

Had this issue on both my XT1625 (non Amazon) and my wife's Moto G3. turned out the APN settings were not setup correctly so it was accessing the wrong MMS proxy. AT&T is also who our provider (Consumer Cellular) uses. Check with H2O wireless and find out what your APN settings should be and set them up accordingly.
Make the APN settings match the settings on this page.

You also know that MMS probably won't go if you have wifi enabled while sending. Many apps have a T-Mobile setting that disables wifi while sending MMS. For grins, disable wifi then try sending the MMS with just data enabled.

This worked: disabling wifi allowed the MMS to send.
Is this a moto g4-carrier specific problem, or universal problem? Is there a work-around to enable both MMS and wifi simultaneously?

It's not a G4 problem, it's more the app and I use Textra SMS for that reason but there are several that you can use. You can try that or Chomp which is by the same developer and I believe both are free to try. I actually purchased Textra because I just like the features more. In the MMS settings for both there is a setting called T-Mobile Fix. What it does is when an MMS is coming in or when you're sending one, it will turn off the wifi, send or receive the MMS and then turn wifi back on. I've seen that setting on other SMS apps also.

Interesting. I haven't seen any issues with WIFI being enabled blocking MMS messages from being sent. I just use the built in Messaging app that coms with opengapps. My wife had an issue on her G3 that prevented her from sending MMS to a group but worked fine for single recipients. It turned out to be APN settings.
But this is good to know should I see any issues in the future.
OK, have had quite the adventure getting this to work.
I did install Textra and selected the "T-Mobile workaround" setting within the app and MMS worked wonderfully. For about one week.
The all of a sudden it stopped working. Phone crashed and upon reboot MMS ceased to work in its entirety.
This got me thinking there must be a conflict somewhere. So I uninstalled Lucky Patcher and HEBF, and lo and behold MMS would send and RECEIVE only upon reboot. Not once the OS was completely booted, but in that sweet spot of 30 seconds after the main screen popped up and the rest of the OS booted. So I'm thinking there is a conflict somewhere. The only other apps I have that require root is Titanium Backup and SuperSU - I don't think these would cause conflict but I suppose I could uninstall and see.
Short of doing a full factory reset, is there some sort of conflict debugging software that I can use to trace the conflict?

I have TB installed and had SuperSU as well when I was on stock. Didn't see any issues with MMS once I got APN setup correctly. Short of doing a factory reset or disabling individual apps you probably don't have any options to find the conflict, if that is the issue.
