Cheap chinese smart watch for firmware modifications? - Other SmartWatches

Hello everyone! Please advise me what smart watches are best for firmware modifications etc? I mean cheap chinese watches, for example DZ09, A1 etc. To have a lot of kinds of firmware for testing and that they can be easily edited eg. In MTK Resource Edit. Thank you very much for your ideas and experiences.

Well, to start with - do you want square or round?
Can get either shape with full Android 5.1. Takes a Sim card and is basically a very very small phone.
Or you can get Bluetooth only models.
Or non android watch fones.
So much choice. You need to narrow it down a bit

It does not matter. Something like DZ09 (square), with own firmware, slot for a SIM card don't need. I have Smart Watch A1 now and there are no possibility to modifications (community does not write about this model).

Best Smartwatch for Quick App Creation

I've searched for hours the best smartwatch for this. Here are my needs: not bluetooth-dependent, aka watch-phone (all I need is wifi really) but I still do plan on pairing it to my device... I also want to create my own apps easily, much like that with Tasker scenes. I am a coder as well but never coded android apps, only pc. It looks like a nightmare. Correct me if I'm wrong. I am interested in Sony SW2 sdk, but that looks taunting. I would like Sony but I would also like to use wifi. Is that possible with some modding? I want an independent smartwatch that can also pair with my phone. I also want app creation for various things. Waiting is a last resort. Thanks.

Take a look at SmartQ's Z-watch. Had the sw2...preferred Z as daily driver.
I now have the TS due to 2nd line necessity....be honest, I miss the Z.

I think the best one for developing apps on it will be the AI Watch, best specs putting all the other smartwatches in shame.

Is this the new preorder one? I just looked at their website, it looks pretty future-tech. I can't find any "good" info on their current one.

Thanks, this watch looks like a great deal. The deal-breaker for me is being water-proof and having the headphone jack.
@mghtymse007 Can I ask you: have you tried Tasker on your Z watch? Does scene creation work? Does Tasker Gingerbread work better? (Tasker Gingerbread also works on 4.x) If you could try it out that'd be nice. Thanks,

Looking for cheap smartwatch to to mod/hack/reprogram

Hi,
I'm looking for a cheap smartwatch, which I can mod (custom firmware and so on...)
Is there something like this on the market?
Greetings!
It you are looking for real android devices you can take a look at the zgpax S8 or the K8 android smartwatch. Both types have threads here already with community support.
https://hackaday.io/project/4510-open-source-sportsmart-watch - pretty active and moving to a newer watch (looks like maybe the Sma Q)

All smartwatches mentioned here are 60$+. Aren't there any cheaper <30$ watches, which can be modified?

Programmable watches

I got an idea which requires that several sensors are attached to a humans wrist together with some GSM communication, so i thought, why not use an Android smart watch? (Or any other programmable watches)
I've searched aliexpress for smart watches with sim card support, but the ones i can find in the price range $10-30 doesn't come with a full Android OS. And as far as i can read, i won't be able to modify the OS on the watches.
Do any of you know a programmable watch with sim card support in the price range $10-30? It doesn't have to an Android watch at all. If someone sells a fully working Arduino watch, link it!
Check out the IMac M7, full android, sim card, good specs.

@friendlybiker
It is sadly not near my price range. Do you know anything cheaper? It doesn't has to contain water resistance etc.
I think this will be a problem, if you want a device running real android. Even the cheaper android smartwatches are around a 100$ or more. Most of the other cheap smartwatches are running some sort of proprietary system, I don't think they can be modified in any way. I know a few smartwatches around 50$ which claim to support java. Maybe you can install and run some java programs on it...

Best Apple Watch-like smartwatch

Hi ppl, so I am considering buying a smartwatch. I personally like design of iWatch, so I would like to get something that looks close to it. I've seen various models, mostly GT08, Garett G25 or DZ09. Can anybody please tell me which one is the best? Or any other propositions? I am not looking for any awesome features - just the basic ones, controlling phone over Bluetooth, some notes in calendar etc. Generally, just want to get in touch with smartwatches, and not really spend too much money on the first model. Will be grateful for answers.

They are produced by same factories, same hardware components and same software (with small variations for themes and menu), either GT08 or DZ09 (both most sold) will do the job
Hi there, I have released a new small utility - ReadBack Extractor - which could help any of you want to extract from a<Readback> ROM dump a full flawless firmware, to whom it may concern , check this link

Is it possible to flash Android Wear onto GT08?

Hi,
Today is my birthday, and my girlfriend got me a cheap smartwatch. I'm happy with the sediment behind the gift, believe me I am. However, there are a few things that caught my attention:
The proprietary android app (used to push notifications and such) has advertisements.
It is possible to flash firmware onto the GT08.
So I was wondering, is it possible to flash stock android wear (or close to stock) onto this watch? If so, could someone direct me to a guide? I would be happy if I could use the Android Wear app instead of this ad ridden thing by the manufacturers.
Thank you in advance.
I'm in the exact same position as this person... can anyone help? Please :fingers-crossed:

Yes, Me to!
Simple Answer is No. Even with old Android Wear like Sony SW3 (deprecated) nobody can made an updated OS

1) yes -- dev / programmer
2) yes -- proprietory equipment / software required.
It's cheaper just to buy a better watch if you 'HAVE' to have those capabilities.
I have a 'timemaker' from amazon watch, its decent, and it works as a watch. Sleep not so accurate, hr not so accurate as my table has a pulse of 160 (should really relax a bit) it does not count steps very well.
troublebshooting 'nameless' brands is always a challenge and most mod apps will not work.
So in short if modding is what you 'NEED' get a brand name watch; asus, samsung xiomi etc.
If a good estimate of your lifestyme (sleep, hr, steps) is good enough, then the no name is fine.
Always read reviews and check out companion app reviews before purchase (I'd have recommended a different one as the first one had to be sent back)
