Here's hoping someone can help me.
I flashed the B15 Stock System from Draken. I flashed the Magisk 11.1 zip for systemless root. When it booted, I went into pay store for the Magisk manager. When it opens it says the device is rooted, but no root permission. I know I'm likely missing a step, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

From what I've read, 11.1 doesn't work with stock for some reason. The BadBoyz nougat ROM uses 10.2, and it works great.

I can't install 10.2 on stock for some reason. When it boots up, it says no root installed. Should I flash SuperSU then magisk 10.2?

alright im thinking of doing system-less root with xposed using magisk (yes im a pokemon goer thats ticked off from its new update) just wanting to know what would be the best way to go about this. If it is possible. currently im running GoldenEYE rom android 5.0.1 dont have fastboot so i already know i have alot of work in Odin to do. would love to have CM12.1 running with a systemless root but last time i tried to even get CM12.1 loaded it never worked.
So anyidea if this is possible or not. (yes i do have stock roms at the ready from when i put on my current rom along with root methods)
You don't have to do anything in Odin.
All you need is TWRP.
Then follow the Magisk instructions.
Unroot, uninstall Xposed (if present), flash Magisk zip, flash phh root zip, download phh superuser app and Magisk manager app.
well that sucked. now have the dreaded unauthorized soft ware. found a way around it to get phone booted. going into download mode then cancel out restarting phone from there.
So I tried this exact thing two days ago because I have an S4 with the Goldeneye rom installed, and unfortunately got these results
I opened up superSU and did a full unroot, after
I deleted the xposed that was installed (v86 by dlc) using the uninstaller through TWRP.
Next I flashed magisk v6 zip along with the phh superuser zip, and ended up in a bootloop..
The phone wouldnt pass the boot animation, so i uninstalled magisk, and reflashed superSU
On my end its not working, mate.

As far as I know, systemless stuff works only on Android 6 and above.
Goldeneye is a TouchWiz ROM, therefor it's android 5.
Magisk works on Touchwiz 5.0
Magisk works on android 5.0 touchwiz. Im using lenny bard stock HPG1 rom and PoGo works perfectly
Sure you can do it. i have gt-i9500 variant with 5.1.1 port tw android. magisk work when i want to play pokemon go. the only problem i have now is the systemless xposed not working as expected.
I am under the impression I am not able to get TWRP on mine because its the later version with locked bootloader.. what options are there.. Currently Download Graded to 4.4.4 to use towel root and installed Flashfire so i can install Safestrap
Really want to use Magisk

I know this is pretty old but just a headsup if you have the latest bootloader that is locked you can just download firmware for your region with an older bootloader and flash the entire thing with odin. I had the locked bootloader issue and odin fixed it.

Ok so you extracted an older bootloader and swapped it out?
I'm on a B09, bootloader unlocked and rooted with SuperSU 2.65 A2017G.
Except from the 2.65 version, is there another one working for the A2017G?
I want to get Xposed and if I do understand I need SuperSU 2.75 or above to get Xposed to work in systemless.
If there isn't another version could you guys help to get Xposed working on my phone?
That would be much appreciated.
EDIT: Well I'm dumb, I assumed Oki's guide only worked on the A2017U variant. Sorry guys :/
If you have the official version of TWRP you should be able to install the latest version of SuperSU.
Yeah I figured it out with the help of Oki's guide.
Thanks for the answer!
I'm having a problem where many apps do not get root unless I manually open SuperSU, which means that most root apps are not working properly because they can't work automatically. Is there another version of SuperSU or TWRP that I can flash to solve this problem?
I'm on A2017U B29 stock, SuperSU 2.79 flashed from TWRP 3.0.2-2

Did you make sure to disable system write protection? Boot into TWRP, open up the terminal emulator, and issue the command: reboot disemmcwp
I'm having a similar problem while flashing superuser. The error happens after the "patching sepolicy" line runs. The error prevents SuperSU from being installed at all. Any suggestions?
You need to flash twrp 3.0.3 or above and flash SuperSU 2.79
Latest SuperSU Causes Endless Loops on the Axon 7
Literally, every time I install the latest version of SuperSU on my axon I get an endless bootloop. These are SuperSU files I get directly from chainfire's website. There must be something im missing, or maybe im downloading the wrong version? Im not sure i was hoping to get some help. I just tried installing: SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.
>> Can anyone point me in the right direction of the latest SuperSU that works with the Axon 7 that doesnt bootloop it.
I remember that the Pixel phones had SuperSUs that were made for it. I am wondering does the same thing apply here?
I have installed everything right on my phone to the T. Everything was brand new stock.

Good evening ladys and gentlemen,
hoping you can help me with my root-not staying-problem.
I have the A2017G B09 version. I already managed to unlock my device and I had root with xposed installed.
Sounds good so far, right?
Well my problem is that after the restart that is needed to activate my xposed modules, my root went away and I couldn't get it back. After that I tried to do it again but root wouln't stick no matter what.
And yes, I did use the "reboot disemmcwp" command.
I tried to root by flashing the newest chainfire supersu 2.79, since I have newest twrp 3.0.3-1.
It would be great if you would be able to help me on my journey and maybe explain to me the difference between systemless and normal, and what magisk is since I saw that op up a few times.
Oh and please tell me from where I should start if I want to work on everything android related (roms, kernel, apps) since my semsester is nearing its end.
Thanks in advance.
Systemless root means that the /system partition is not modified, however the boot image is altered. There is much hype on this, however there still are many mods out there requiring modifications of /system. I personally do not see any advantage of it, probably because I have been using custom ROMs for years, and custom ROMs has many alterations to the /system compared to stock or pure CM or AOSP roms. However it is clear that the future goes that way and eventually most of the mods will be systemless. The advantage is that you will supposedly be able to flash OTA upgrades, however if the OTA is also modifying the boot partition, then it doesn't matter, you will not be able to flash the OTA upgrade. So the benefits of systemless mods are arguable.
Magisk is an open root. it is systemless from the beginning and any module under Magisk framework will be systemless. So far no official Magisk release (latest at this time is v10.2) is compatible with the Axon stock ROM. However, the latest v10.3-beta2 seems to fix the root injection problem. It is included in the Bad Boyz custom ROM.
There are some apps not working on root devices. They use a SafetyNet procedure to check for that, such as Android Pay or Pokemon Go. However there are ways to overcome this security check and you can enjoy root and SafetyNet compatibility either using SuperSU or Magisk, system or systemless root. the issue becomes a little tricky when adding Xposed mod framework to the mix, since the procedures to have all 3 (root, SafetyNet and Xposed) working is not that straightforward. However this is possible in the Axon 7. You can find one of my guides in the links in my signature.
Enjoy!!!!
Thanks for the info. I actually used your guide but nothing came out of it. I got stuck on the Axon screen. Tried it multiple times. Guess I'll try again either after the N update or when I get impatient.
Try reflashing supersu don't reboot, then use terminal in TWRP to do reboot disemmcwp and see if it works. I usually use root Explorer to see if I can change /system to r/w. If it did not work go back to terminal in TWRP and try again. I have had to do it a few times to get it to work. Using adb terminal seems to work first time, terminal apps have not worked for me.

If you tried my guide, then you must use ROM B29 or any other ROM based on B29. I am afraid that the patch is only compatible with B27 or B29 based kernels.

You can flash directly the BootStack for your version of Axon 7 and the B29 ROM (or any other custom ROM) using TWRP. You can get those files from https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/rom-guide-updates-to-stock-files-via-t3469484

Ok thanks I'll do it this evening
Or maybe not, to risky.
Tested on a clean install of CypherOS. It installs and passes SafetyNet without doing anything complicated. Assuming it should work on any rom without root built in like Lineage OS.
Grab it here and thank @topjohnwu. Remember to enable Magisk Hide in settings or it will not pass SafetyNET.

I tried this on an existing install but no luck.
On the new install did you have to flash the remove root zip from Lineage, or just ROM GAPPS and Magisk zips?
Thanks.

On a clean install I just flashed rom, gapps, and magisk in that order.
BTW over night Magisk lost root, a reboot and root was back though. Might be bug, might be a one time thing, I don't know.
After trying everything listed still no luck getting this to work.
Guess no Android Pay for me
I tried to install on stock ROM, it seem it dosn't work, i'll try with a custom ROM
i'm running this just fine with just the core AND the latest version of magisk. safetynet check passes too on cypherOS.
Just upgraded from B19 to B25 via DrakenFX's zips, and it looks like Magisk has stopped working. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the zip, but it looks like the superuser app just crashes after prompting for permission. Magisk thinks there's root, but its logs just end with "phh: starting su daemon." (And, of course, safetynet fails). I'd upload a screenshot, but I can't . I'm trying to use Magisk v10.3-beta2 with 17 me.phh.superuser cm-su topjohnwu.
Anyone figured this out, or found another way to get Android Pay working with an unlocked bootloader?
Thanks!
Apparently there is no functional Magisk for stock nougat. You can use 10.2 on MM or 12 on one of the custom (non stock based) nougat roms.
Actually, I did manage to get Magisk 10.3-beta2 working on B19 nougat, so I assumed that it'd work on B25. Looks like that's not the case, though.
That version of Magisk works for me on b25. Three green lights. What version of Magisk manager are you using? I have 4.3.3.

Actually, looks like Magisk 12 works well enough to hide the bootloader on B25, which is all I really wanted, anyways .

I want to run magisk so I can use android pay, I'm rooted, on stock nougat, unlocked BL. I've found very little axon 7 specific threads, so just wondering are there any gotcha's? Is it like TWRP where you need a version built for the phone?
thanks
If you're rooted already, I'm not sure if Magisk 12 is going to work, since Magisk Hide only hides MagiskSU. I'd try looking into the guide for Magisk 13, starting from no root, which might be able to get you root with Android Pay

Hey, thanks for getting back. Actually I ended up removing supersu, flashing stock boot & system, then installing magisk again. Now I get the same as your screenshot, but the "rooted but no root permission" result.
Do you know how to fix that?
Aside from trying Magisk 13, that's where I ended up getting stuck, so I think that's just how things are with Magisk 12/10.3.

Oh, ok, thanks. I'll try 13 I guess
Unfortunately it seems like 13 has similar behaviour .. it doesn't complain, but I don't seem to have root access, and on top of that the app crashes here and there. :/ I guess I may have to forego android pay for a little while.
