Battery life review on android 7.0 nougat - s7 edge (exynos variant) - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi, guys. I'm creating this thread for letting you know if this battery usage from my phone seems to be an average one.
Please note that on Marshmallow i used to have only 4 hours SOT from 100% to 10%.
Actually, i dont know why there r people saying that Android Nougat has a terrible battery life. To me it seems to be perfect.

The power management of Nougat is much better than of Marshmallow and hence the battery life is improved. While I usually got around one day (morning till night) on M I come now till next day around noon with N. For me that's the biggest improvement of Samsung's Nougat.

For my own usage, 5-6 hours SOT on Marshmallow (average)
On Nougat, I struggle to get 4.5 hours SOT

On nougat i get much better than marshmallow... i get minimum 6 hours SOT with nougat and one time i reached 8 hours SOT with 1% left

nougat for me and many other users including mobile site critics have worse battery then Marshmallow , even other phone's who got nougat were complaining that they have worse battery then Marshmallow like OnePlus 3T forums.
some people who experience better battery stats in nougat is because they have done a clean install of nougat update AFTER having stayed on Marshmallow for some time and the system got cluttered over time with bad apps or bugs and wake lucks that drained the system , and the clean install of nougat fixed that.

Actually, ive got my s7 edge since february, ive been using marshmallow since ive got the phone. But last week i decided to install nougat via ota, not through odin. And i didnt wipe my phone nor do factory reset.

I have 5 to 6 hours battery time with my marshmallow.

I'm not crazy with my edge. Email eBay banking shopping that's about all and I get 5 to 6 days on marshmallow still haven't upgraded. But once I got my s3 frontier and Bluetooth on 24.7 I get 3days. So my question is if anyone has taken a hit with nougat and any s3gear. I've been hesitate on the upgrade any suggestions or experience running the 2 together will be much appreciated.
Thank you :good:

How on earth you manage to get that ?! I really struggle to get 3-4 SOT on stock nougat.

I think a black AMOLED Friendly theme dramatically improves your battery on this phone combine that with a custom ROM and battery saving tweaks you'll be able to get 6-7 easy....
Even more depending on what you do with your phone

impossible with lolipop, kitkat based roms don't eat much battery backup.
You won't find someone with 2 days battery backup on lolipop but kitkat.

nope, I don't use stock kitkat, but kitkat based roms, just like you're sharing your personal experience similarly I've shared mine bro.
I'm very surprised with my result. This is stock 5.0.2 with stock everything and relocked bootloader. All I have done is disabled background data for a few troublesome apps like Google play services.
I have 2 email accounts setup push. Bluetooth is always on and was on a 50/50 mix of WiFi and 3g data. Display brightness is auto.
Disabled most of the Google syncing stuff though. Overall I'm pretty happy. I want the 3rd generation Moto G now though.
I'm getting a 4 hours & 58 minutes Screen on Time with 5% battery left. Still a good battery performance for a phone that would turn 2 years old this coming april. I'm pretty much contented.
I'm on a 7.1.1 Resurrection Remix ROM with default kernel, Greenify was installed, wifi was on all the time, 1h 30m of surfing the web with Chrome, streaming videos in YouTube for 2h then browsing Facebook and Instagram with the remaining hours.
My result, i am on AEX rom v4.6
the phone is only 2 week old i bay it for 50$ ?

Looking for solution: manage permissions, faster but keep Samsung stock camera

Hi XDA community,
My S5 G900F is a bit sluggish on Lollipop, I also do not really like Samsung UI. I am looking for a solution that:
1) will let me manage app permissions
2) will perform better / give better battery life
3) will let me customize the UI (or that has a lean UI, like CM12) / removes Samsung Bloatware
4) but keep the amazing Samsung stock camera app performance
I was looking into so far:
CM12: camera performance is not sufficient from what I read and some features are missing (e.g. no slow-mo video)
Xposed /Xprivacy: Xposed seems to create a bootloops with Samsung Rom and is complicated to install
Any other solutions I could try? S5 is rooted, running Lollipop 5.0 and running TWRP.
Thanks a lot your suggestions,
Hunibu
Marshmallow stock port for the G900F (Keeping Samsung Camera, improving performance and battery life and app permissions)
Flash with ODIN 3.10.7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66636607&postcount=5291
Debloat script to remove the cr4pware and improve performance and battery life even further
Flash TWRP 3.0.0.0 and then the debloat script from TWRP (And SuperSU 2.71 beta if you want root)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/script-galaxy-cleaner-lollipop-t3156006
Xposed works perfectly with MM for UI changing, or install a better launcher like Nova

Thanks a lot, Detection. I was reading a lot about battery issues with Marshmallow on Samsung phones, that does make me worry
In terms of your options, they're very limited I'm afraid mate. You simply can't have the Samsung camera without the samsung TW interface. To an extent you can customise it but you're going to be stuck with that if you want the camera. I also agree that the stock camera is 100% the best and quickest, but it simply doesn't work when ported to any other form of ROM (AOSP, CM, AOKP etc).
My solution for now is to use OpenCamera and Camera MX. Whilst it does mean using 2 apps, it also means I get similar performance and the AOKP (my choice of ROM) functionality. Plus as it's extremely light, I'm pushing 2/3 days moderate usage, or at the very least a full day if I use it a bit. Slightly less if I use it as a camera for half the day, which I'm finding I'm doing a lot recently.

No battery issues here, in fact I get better battery life with MM than I did with Lollipop, I'm easily passing 6 hours SoT, and that's with 2 days+ on battery
Thanks to both of you for sharing. I will read up about the two camera apps. And also go through the MM thread here again in more detail. I might just flash MM as a test if I find time this weekend. My knox is triggered anyway. Thanks again!

Nothing special, just normal use, mainly whatsapp, texts, some camera, 50% brightness, WiFi Enabled 24/7, battery lasts well, always has
Got some screenshots of over 5 hours SoT in the battery thread from when I was running Lollipop, MM is better
Taking too long to wait for the full 6 hours SoT, but you can see here with 52% battery left, over 3 hours, so another 50% = another 3 hours

Bad SOT

Hi there,
I know that the topic has been dealt with countless times, but despite having asked and posted screenshots 2 or 3 times on dedicated threads, I couldn't get an answer. So I open my own thread hoping to draw attention
My S7E is the exynos one ,free from branding and never rooted and on the latest FW BPHJ. I have a hard time achieving decent SOT. My usage is mainly listening to podcasts (2h20 per day), few calls or sms. One thing, I have bad signal at office or home (1 or 2 bars). I know that it impacts the battery. Andoid OS and Android system are toping the list usually and on the below screenshot Google Play too because of MX player (certainly the ads). Something surprises me though, it's the amount of data consumed by the Andoid OS ! Please take a look at the below screenshots, and give me your feelings if you please
Thx guys.

Does your phone run hot ? And also if its hot while charging.
My advice to you is disabling fast charge because heat degrades battery very fast. I am rooted with stock firmware and i can get 8 to 10 hours sot constant usage. Have you ever gotten more than 3 hours sot?
Find AOD in app manager and uninstall its updates and force stop it even if you never used it before. And remove anything oculus. Replace facebook messenger with messenger Lite.
Had bad battery life but now im back at 7hrs SOT easy.

I do not use fast charge on a regular basis. Only when I forgot to charge it overnight I give it a quick boost and disable it just after. It's sometimes hot when I use it but not so often.
Yes I have already got 5 hours SOT but it did not occur many times.

Is this normal in GS7's battery? Share your usage!

So...
I got an unlocked Samsung S7, the Sprint variant, to use it in my country which is Mexico and I get pretty good signal, including LTE and all that. Since I got this phone (about a week ago) I haven't been getting what I think of good battery life, on a full charge disconnecting around 9 a.m. my phone dies on me at around 6 or 7 p.m. with occasional use like checking Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat and a bit of YouTube, no intense gaming or heavy browsing.
At first, I thought it would be all the Sprint bloatware and the fact that it thinks it's a Sprint phone so it tries to activate every time it boots, and I didn't really had the time to root my phone to remove all that trash until yesterday. When I finished the rooting/debloating process my phone had around 60% and it lasted me from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. only playing music and ordinary stuff.
My question is, is this kind of battery life normal? I mean, I come from an iPhone 5S (and before that I had a Galaxy S6 which is equally bad in terms of battery) and I'm pretty used to charging the phone two times a day when it's under heavy usage, but since this battery is way more big than that of the iPhone and the S6 I thought I would be getting a lot of battery life. Basically I need to charge this phone in the middle of my day so it can make it until bedtime.
And I saw a lot of YouTube reviews before getting this phone and everybody says that this battery is great (not excellent, but makes it to the end of the day) but I can't share this thought. I'm running Nougat QAA firmware, rooted and bloatware free, phone is in pretty good condition (like new, so no battery deterioration) and my usage is pretty average as I watch Netflix and YouTube on my PlayStation and usually browse the web in my laptop. I just want to know if this is normal or not, maybe I just expected too much and that makes me think that this is far worse than it actually is. I'll post a screenshot of my battery when it dies on me so you can see how this day went, and I would like to see yours too!
Cheers!
Hi, last year I bought some kind of "refurbished" 930P, unlocked of course because I'm form Uruguay and I use it here. Like you I was very disappointed about the battery life, I mean, at the first my phone died around 3hs of screentime usage. After I flashed 930U rom to solve some issues I was having with uruguayans carriers, the battery life improved a little, so now my phone dies around 3hs30m or in many cases nearly 4hs of screentime. I still waiting 7.0 Nougat for 930U to see if battery lifetime changes.
I recommend to you flash the U rom on your S7, you get free of all that bloatware and I'm sure your battery life will be better.

Thank you for replying, I installed the latest Nougat and rooted it, then, debloated it and I got about the same screen-on time, 3 and a half hours. I would like to install the U firmware but I think there's no rooting for that (please correct me if I'm wrong) and I need root to remove ads and to change the system emojis because to me they look horrible!
Also, would you please post a screenshot of your most intense usage? Gracias!
I would say the best way to improve battery life is to install a package disabler app and manually remove bloatware. Everytime I flash between U firmware and new Sprint software one of the first things I do is disable basically any samsung thing that can be disabled, and google apps I don't use etc. Also Nougat let's you change from 1440 to 1080 and that helps a lot in terms of battery life. Try that.

That's exactly what I've done in fact, I have the latest Sprint Nougat installed and I'm rooted and I uninstalled all of the Samsung and Sprint apps I don't use, my phone is rather clean actually, only a page and a half in the app drawer, still haven't had the battery I expect. Bad Battery Life in RN7 with LineageOS 18.1

Hello everyone, I have a 2.5 year old RN7 running the latest version of LineageOS (Android 11) and I'm struggling to get more than 5 hours of screen on time, and I have to charge my phone every day. Below is a screenshot I took a few days ago of the battery usage from 100 to 3%.

This is weird because there doesn't seem to be any particular app that's draining battery and when I first got my phone and was running MIUI 10 and 11 I had no issues reaching 8h of SOT and I remember I charged my phone every 2 days. Could this be an issue with the ROM?
Thank you very much!

I did. Auto brightness is always off and I set my brightness right in the middle except when I'm in the sunlight. This is yesterday's battery usage.
In this case it kinda seems like Plex was draining a lot of battery for some reason, but I almost never use plex and I always get around this SOT vs the 8-10 some people show here with their RN7. I'm considering switching back to miui to see if that fixes it but I'd rather leave that as a last resort.

I see, thank you for the link. I'm really not sure about the SOT I got right when I got the phone and I was running MIUI, but what I do remember clearly is that I could reach the end of the day with maybe with 60% and I was able to charge my phone only every 2 days. Now that's not the case anymore.
For sure 5H 30M SOT still a very good value for an 2,5 years old battery.
