Man this phone is beautiful. Size and build quality are A+ really good in the hands. Sound is surprisingly good for a single speaker. I also like the Oxygen OS as well. Call quality is good too. There are a few things though that would make this phone even better, and I bet if they had these features the phone would have sold 50% more than it did. They are:
1. LTE on all bands including 12 and 17
2. Dual WIFI 5 G
3. More Timely updates
4. Better Camera
They could make a Oneplus X SE version and have those features and charge say $279 Overall pleased with it.
There had to be few compromises. Yes the camera could have been better. But there is a version by sultanxda that enhances the camera. It is good.
Yet to buy this phone. Cannot wait*!
It is a very good phone but it is even more amazing once rooted and a custom rom flashed on it which you may or may not want to do yet. I think it may also be possible to unlock the locked LTE bands once rooted but am not sure.
I tried to put a custom ROM on it. Must have tried 8 or 9 of them. They would install fine but I would get no cellular data, I had no signal from T-Mobile. Finally just gave up and went back to stock and everything worked.

That's interesting..I'm still thinking of flashing a custom rom... For now I use stock oxygenos with bluspark kernel, rooted. I still try to add all funktions that are missing for me via xposed and apps but for one it's quite some work to do and I'm also concerned of additional battery drain. My cell phone carrier is T Mobile Austria.
I'm sure it was just me, user error some how I must have missed a step or something
Wow this is strange. I just went back to try and flash Exodux Rom and this time it worked. I have data and everything. I have no idea what I did different this time to get it to work.

Not to mention that you can do even more with the camera from Color OS
This is the best $250 you could spend on a device really. Its perfect. No performance drawbacks or anything like that. The only things I could ask for if they made a X^2 is a bigger battery and a better camera sensor... Maybe an 805 or 652 as well... and maybe 3.18 kernel sources... but hey, I'm happy.
Regarding 5ghz WiFi... That would be awesome and actually, with an internal mod, should be possible. But even with 2.4ghz I'm able to go a far distance away from home and still have a decent connection that I wouldn't have on any other device

Agree. I got the ceramic version, paid $300 (onyx version would have cost the same for my country) for 9 days now and I'm pleasantly surprised. 5ghz wifi and a bigger battery are the only 2 things missing for me.
A cm based rom, not overly bloated makes it perfect. OxygenOs itself is not perfect but after rooting, installing bluspark kernel, removing some google apps and using xposed modules it's great.
If one is used to have a custom rom flashed, I can only recommend the xposed module gravitybox..lets you greatly customize your rom.
Thinking of upgrading to this from my 2014 Moto G that I got before Chirstmas as an emergency purchase. It's lasting me fine and running a highly optimized stock ROM very well. But I really want something that has more under the hood. Especially in the RAM category. I'm not a super heavy user in terms of how many apps I run. (I try to keep whats running in the background to an absolute minimum) So having the 'latest and greatest' specs isn't really a concern for me.
My only concern is the lack of the popular LTE bands being that I live in the states. I've been living on HSPA+ for the past 4 months and really haven't had much to complain about. Anyone care to share how well it does on 3g and the like?
Hi Guys, I am facing network coverage issues in the Zuk Z1 running on Stock 12.1- YOG4PAS7DF. My other cell phones have better reception compared to the Zuk whereas Zuk won't be able to receive calls or won't connect to data services at my place of Stay(intermittently). My others phones with the same carrier used to work flawlessly at the same spot. Did a bit of googling and found out that changing the baseband firmware will help in better signal reception. If i got a signed baseband firmware zip of One plus and flash it in Zuk, it will brick the device, right.? Any other way to port the baseband of another model to Zuk so as to improve the signal reception.? Or is there any other way to improve the signal reception.? (I am facing poor reception at some other places too and i am using the carrier with best network coverage in Bangalore- India) .
Note : Does this poor signal reception has anything to do with SAR values.? Zuk zeems to have to lowest SAR value when compared with other cell phones like Xiaomi Redmi series, iphones etc.

I have gone through the reviews on CM14. It is awesome , but still i would like the camera app to function as it is in Stock ROM. We can't get the same Camera clarity in CM13 or 14, i guess. Flashing a CM14 baseband on Stock CM12 ROM may brick the device, i suppose.

For me the camera quality is the same on cos12.1 and cm14/cm13. It's a bad camera, no software can make it better. It's only minor visible, but hey, it's a mid range device and its written on every website that the zuk camera is bad, so live with that and no, the stock cam can't be portet. Use alternative apps like open camera or what you want. The baseband also cannot be flashed.

Thanks @strongst. . However, i felt that stock camera clarity is better than CM13 .. Will try the CM14 , after all good network reception is the primary expectation from a cell phone :cyclops:

So I've been on WETA since it dropped for our Verizon phones.. I really think it's the most complete ROM and am always hesitant to even try anything else.. I like the concept of the AOSP ROM's but I don't like the things that don't work, such as low audio or the second screen.. Those two things I use all the time so it wouldn't make sense to sacrifice those.. I also like 3minit battery mod, and I don't think AOSP has that yet.. Anyways, just seein what you guys use and why you use it..
Thanks!
I am currently using Resurrection Remix. I was on WETA but battery life was pretty bad for me. With RR I get battery Life on par with my iPhone 7 plus.

how bad is the low audio in video recordings..?? I haven't tried a Lineage based rom yet but I was thinking about testing it out..
I use video recordings all the time for my car and stuff so it's pretty important to be able to hear the audio in my recordings..
On WETA right now and it has it's quirks but liking it so far. Would like to try MEGArom but I've read that it has issues with WiFi calling and I havent researched enough into it yet to see if there is a workaround. Lineage and other AOSP stuff doesnt interest me as you lose access to some of the unique features of the V20.
I'm on Tilde's ROM, great battery life, smooth like butter
No complaints so far.

The NotSoStock rom you mean right..??
I pulled out my old Nexus 6P to use for a day and was shocked and disappointed to find that the 6P runs noticeably smoother than my OP5 despite being an older phone, having a slower processor, less RAM and the fact that I'm using balanced kernel settings on the 6P and more performance oriented ones on the OP5. I'm guessing this is a software issue because based on specs there's obviously no reason the 6P should be smoother than the OP5.
I'm wondering if there are any custom ROMs that people think improve the performance of the OP5 over stock OOS. I am specifically looking for very smooth and fluid performance. I don't care about a bunch of custom features. I'm already using a performance-oriented custom kernel (Blu Spark) that was designed for stock OOS but at this point, I'm considering a custom ROM if that might improve the user experience.
Not sure what kind of setup you have on your 6P but it must be something performance oriented for sure, if you feel you are getting better performance from it, compared to the 5.
I'm on PureFusion with blu_spark custom, and fastlane enabled with threshold set to 35.
That combo has given me incredible performance, better than my 6P when I had it, that's for sure.

It's not performance oriented at all. I run Dirty Unicorns with the ElementalEx Kernel and the kernel governor is interactive. If I use the interactive governor on the OP5 it results in a very noticeable performance hit. I'm thinking of trying xXx NoLimits ROM but I don't know that it will make a difference. The slight lack of fluidity might be how I perceive the jelly effect in the display --in which case changing ROMs won't help. But NoLimits is OOS based, performance oriented and users generally seem to like it so it might be worth a shot.
I'm back to using the OP5 now. It doesn't really feel laggy at all--but it feels less smooth than my Nexus 6P or the Pixel XL I previously had. It's hard to explain but I do perceive a difference.

Interesting that you see a difference, I would probably be of more help if I was having similar issues, but my 5 is ridiculously smooth and snappy.
Maybe give the setup I have a try, if you don't mind straying away from OOS-based ROMs, I'm getting really great fluidity with it!

What are you running?
I tried NoLimits ROM. I didn't notice any performance improvement at all which is strange because the entire purpose of the ROM appears to be improved performance. I ended up going back to stock--putting up with the little things that didn't quite work right was pointless if the ROM wasn't at least going to boost performance. I think the dev through too much unnecessary stuff into the ROM--some of which didn't even work.
Try Blu Spark kernel for performance. RX kernel for stability and battery.

Refer to my first post in this thread to see what I'm running.
I also tried No Limits and it was pretty snappy, however it didn't offer as many features as the ROM I am currently on, and that's been the case for anything OOS-based for me.
Not bashing OOS at all, I just find other options available to better suit my needs, feature wise!

I'm using Blu Spark. It does definitely improve performance over the stock kernel. I was hoping to get a little more of a boost but Blu Spark may already provide the best performance I'm going to get without using crazy kernel settings that will eventually burn out the phone. That's one of the secrets to the smooth performance on the Pixel that gets ignored --the CPU is maxed out constantly which provides super smooth performance but also makes the phone run very hot even if you're only looking at emails . And there's nothing you can do about it. There are no alternative governors you can use or settings you can tweak--the phone is intentionally designed so the hardware will burn out.

I'm going to look into Pure Fusion. Thanks for the suggestion. I know there's no support for custom ROMs so it's good to hear Blu Spark works well with that one.
Try freedom os and any kernel you wish....custom roms will give you better battery life and more featured....more performance ot not than rooted stock...that's Is debatable ...honestly the op5 stock is too optimised and one for the best choices at the moment ...

Strange,
1. Are you sure you downloaded the custom ROM version?
2. Are you flashing over another custom kernel?
3. Try clearing the data from any kernel manager app you have and try again

I got it to work but it didn't ultimately matter. Pure Fusion didn't work well with my carrier MintSim. On stock OOS or No Limits I always have full bars everywhere in my apartment. On Pure Fusion I had 2 bars. I clean flashed the ROM twice and triple checked the APN settings but I couldn't get a good phone signal. Everyone I talked to was complaining about the poor call quality so I had to switch back to stock OOS--which is still on the July security patch. Pure Fusion seemed like a good ROM otherwise in terms of being fast and smooth but I couldn't get my phone service to work right for some reason.

Uhm, this might sound strange, but try to set the animations twice as slow on your OP
The 6p's animations were alot slower than the OP5's.

I'm having an issue that I don't understand and I'm hoping someone can help or at least explain what's going on. My phone carrier is MintSim which uses the T-Mobile network.
If I use OOS or any OOS based custom ROM I get a great phone signal--full bars in every room. If I transfer the sim to my Nexus 6P which is running Dirty Unicorns (an AOSP ROM) I get a great phone signal with full bars in every room. But if I flash an AOSP ROM on the OP5 my phone signal is poor to non existent. I have tried 3 different AOSP ROMs on the OP5 and I couldn't get a decent phone signal on any of them.
I've never run into an issue like this on any other phone. Can someone explain why this might be happening?
You shouldn't judge it by bars. Many manufacturers like oneplus and even samsung will make it look like you have full signal strength even though you don't. Roms usually report it correctly. Use a signal app and it should show the same signal strength in dBm

In Aosp I have two bars to none. I have also tried to make calls and was told the quality was poor. On top of that I'm using an Aosp ROM in my other phone and it shows the same signal strength as OOS. On all 3 Aosp ROMs I tried on the OP5 the signal was so unstable the signal bars never stayed the same for more than a few seconds.

I've never come across that issue on a previous phone. The only AOSP ROM I've gotten no complaints from people I called is Viper. The signal meter on the OP5 is really inaccurate on AOSP ROMs. I installed a signal reader app. It showed an excellent signal but I only had a couple bars according to the icon at the top of the screen.
did anybody able to figure this out, tried a lot of AOSP i think all of it, but signals just dropped out most of the time, followed flashing requirements on each ROM, went back to OOS stable 5.0.2 now 5.0.4 signals stick all the time, gps works perfect...just wanna know coz I still prefer AOSP esp the LOS 15.1.

It's been like that since OP3.
Will likely never be "fixed" at this point. Just get used to it, some recognized developpers declared it is only a "visual" issue.
I guess there is nothing to do about it...
I returned from LOS to OOS just because of that. It may be only visual, but would you ignore warnings on your cars engine? Bad signal means the phone tries harder to aquire it and it means more battery drain. I wouldnt really go with the statement its just a visual bug, especially on LOS where they have set the bar quite high in quality by themselves.
