Nvidia shield tv Error code "TVQ-PB-103" - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any one have this issue? I am on 5.0.2 and Netflix keeps crashing. When i choose a movie it loads and "Bamnn" Netflix tvq-pb-103 (2.10.0.1004) https://help.netflix.com/fr-ca/node/57683
I cleaned up cache and data, logout and reboot... Same problem.

Hi, are you using a type of VPN?
Are you DNS from ISP or your using custom ones?
Enviado desde mi Moto X mediante Tapatalk

Sorry i should say TVQ-PB-103 (2.10.0.2104)
No VPN and no custom DNS.
I called Netflix they looked lost about this error. After all the cache and data clearing for this app still no go. They asked me to do a full reset... 2 hours later finish setup the box, no change. Netflix Still gave me the same error.

Hmm, if you haven't touched router settings, then try rebooting both your modem, router and Shield TV, in that order. 30-30-30 reboot cycle.
I have experienced issues with some apps I have installed in the past that could cause some misbehaviours, so if you tested Netflix right after the factory reset then a bad app should not be the culprit, but if you restored some apps before testing Netflix then check your apps and start uninstalling suspicious apps.
Have you read this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...s905x-help-mi-box-3s-mdz-19-aa-t3521362/page9
I wonder if it's network, bad app or bad update/flashing perhaps? problem.

Nvidia shield is fresh not a single app added.
tried the Netflix update and still no go.
I Tried reboot the router and plugged the shield tv to an other TV. Change 2.4 to 5 ghz still not working.

TVQ-PB-103 (2.10.0.2104)
I search on the net and i can't find this code. Some one know what it's mean?

Did you try the app from the link I posted below?
https://help.netflix.com/en/node/24776
Does it work?, at least does it play videos?.
You have Android TV OS right, are you rooted? It would be good if you could take a debug log.
How about upgrading to Nvidia experience 5.1 and test again.

I did and it's worked but like you said image quality is really bad. I am not sure it even 720p and all zoom in, no menu.

I tried wireless 2.4 and 5.2 and wired, i changed to 720p tv, i tried onkyo 4k amp. Hook up to 1080p Toshiba 1080p tv. Reboot and cleared multiple times but Still not good.
I going to reset my router or update it tonight and test again.

OK but before you update your router, try just changing DNS to google DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
It would be absurd but probably your ISP has enabled some restrictions so that is something very simple that might help.
How is your network setup?. Do you have a modem-router provided by your ISP plus your own router or just 1 router?
Test with nothing in between. Plugged in directly to your main router or even better to your modem to troubleshoot.

I think I might shed some light on that error. But, first tell me this can you log into Amazon? It might prove interesting just to log into it with your Amazon account. You will then be offered the opportunity to join if you wish, but you don't have to. There are a few freebies on there that do not require you to subscribe to it. If those play then I would be at a loss.
But, I would wager that it won't.
If I were you I would head off to the PlayStore, and search for an App called 'DRM Info' this App checks the status of all the local DRM Keys installed on your Device.
In short I suspect heavily you are getting that message 'cause somehow, some way, your DRM Keys either got corrupted, or erased, and lost for good.
In short in order to use Netflix, or Amazon, or HBO Go, etc... etc... That require the strongest DRMs to protect their Content. Only Widevine L(evel)1 will do. This Key can only be set at the Factory, and is highly likely to be very unique to the Device. If it did decide to go walkies. Then all you'd be left with is the basic Widevine L(evel)3. Which is not an acceptable level protection for their likes. And so you get the above Error Code: tvq-pb-103.
Outside of sending the Box back to nVIDIA, I don't know of any possible way to ever recover it.

OP seems to be in plain stock and the issue sounds like it suddenly happened.
Anyway yes is good to verify your DRM keys and confirm if you have done something else to your device in terms of flashing unofficial stuff, BUT even if you did root, etc this shouldn't happen. I run full Android nougat and I'm rooted, I've flashed many times now since Nvidia 3.3, upgrading back to new stock and reflashing to new full Android and DRM keys are intact, so is really really really hard and very odd to lose DRM keys just like that, but for troubleshooting is good to check that detail too.

Well OP never mentioned if his Unit was first owned, or used. It's possible someone damaged it before passing it on.
I will suspect that it's a DRM Permissions problem (e.g. Invalid Keys). Cause I got the case of the Stupids last month thinking that Rooting, and updating left me with a bricked Pro. Thankfully someone left a Backup Image of a working Shield TV Pro on this Board (SSHD > SSD Migration), using this 'Backup' was known to break Netflix in this exact same way. If you read that thread the going consensus had the ESN (Electronic Serial Number), pegged as the culprit. Although the ESN is more or less randomly generated on the fly. Also if it were just somehow the ESN that was to blame, it would not itself explain why Amazon also refuses to play anything. Of course when that Thread was at it hotest. Amazon Prime was not even a twinkle in Jen-Hsun Huangs' eye. However having ran the DRM Info App on my own Shield TV... It is clear that my own unique Keys are now long gone, and as a fact of it I'm limited to just Widevine L3. The Shield TV is in fact supposed to be a high tier L1 Device. So fell free to draw your own conclusions.

Yes, your drm keys are gone because you flashed partition images of another person's device with valuable and unique device info. But your case is very special, not something that you see everyday.
Anyway OP should report back with all the info requested.
BTW do you get the exact same error when you try Netflix? this would say alot too. You seem to only have tested Amazon Video.

The ONLY reason why I even bothered to respond here, as on the nVIDIA Forums was that I was receiving the exactly the same code as above. Which is why I thought to throw it out there. I agree under normal circumstances it shouldn't happen. Especially on an eMMC 16Gb Device. But, that doesn't mean it couldn't have happened. It is however very checkable, and as easy as downloading a simple App off the Play Store.

I just found out that i have, Permanently losing Widevine L1 now DRM info showed L3 that why i have no Netflix or Amazon.

Again, is your Shield new, or used? If its new (e.g. It's still under Warranty), I would contact nVIDIA about getting an RMA.
If OtOH it's neither new, or under Warranty than I guess your just whats in the technical jargon known as SoL.
But still, it may be one thing to fork this up on the SSHD. But normally this is a Partition that should never be touched 99% of the time and as part the 16Gb eMMC nealy impossible to format. Without permabricking the entire Device.

No warranty for me (don't have the receipt anymore..... ).
But i read it's very difficult to break the Drm because it's in a special partition. I have my original sshd in the shield tv. Couple weeks ago i started having issues because of bad connections in my sshd ribbon. i was able to fix it by trimming the edge the connector. When i was able to boot it. It stayed in the 4 spinning dots for hours that where i decided to flash the 5.0.2 from Nvidia dev. I downloaded both normal and root but I'm not sure with one i installed in it. After 2 hours it was up and running. And even updated itself to 5.1 after full reset. But for some reason it stock in Drm L3.
I installed as per nvidia instructions. No other mod. Nvidia original recovery. To be sure I am going to try the original 5.0.2 (not the rooted one) and see what will happen. Hoping i can still go from 5.1 to 5.0.2.

[Q] Clock Setting Back to Default 1/1/2009 After Restart

My Acer A500 always resets the date & time to 1/1/2009 when I restart it. But yesterday when I checked with my friends A500; that isn't the case. His tab had the correct date and time after restart.
Can anyone tell me if there is any internal battery needs changing?
"Restart (Offing the tab waiting 10sec and starting it up again)"
Running Stock Honeycomb 3.2.1
Is your tablet encrypted?
Nope. It is not encrypted.

I was looking at the internal breakdown, and I didn't see an internal battery, other than the main battery. Not like you would see on a PC for example.
Probably, because the newer hardware uses Flash memory, unlike PC's in the old days, which relied on EPROMS and a battery to keep things updated on the Prom memory.
So, unless anybody has some other input on this, that I don't know about, I'll pull a sherlock holmes, and use the deduction method.
This probably didn't occur after you first bought the tab, and the OS was fresh. Otherwise, you would have returned it.
And By the way, what is your current Android version?
I'll have to point the finger, at this time, as some sort of app you downloaded. I can't tell you which one, as I just don't know. Half a million apps on the market, and even more unofficial apps.
I would suggest a factory reset. (back up your critical stuff), and see if the issue remains.
I don't know if you're rooted, or running a custom rom. So I at this time, will say you're not.

First of all sorry for the late reply. Was very busy. Please find my comments in red.

I had this problem from day one. I didn't suspect it as a problem of the tab.

current version is 3.2.1

The only thing that I didn't try due to limited and expensive data charges in Sri Lanka. Can't spend 5-6 hours re downloading everything
I don't know if you're rooted, or running a custom rom. So I at this time, will say you're not.
It is not rooted and I'm not running a custom rom.
Since it is still under warranty I'm thinking should I send it for a replacement.
Appreciate your thouths on this matter.
Try this..
go to settings
Date and time . Look at the Set Date and take note
Toggle off the Automatic date to off .. (un check)
Set proper time and time zone . but change there formats
change the hour format
change the select date format..
Shut down your tablet.. Then restart it.. This might sound useless. But if its a error in the software that controls the clock hardware. This might trigger it to reset. We used to have this issue on the old AMI BIOS CHIPS.MOSTLY on asus main boards. of course try a couple times.. because of the date being so far off it sounds like error in what ever controls the time and date.. Not a android tech . but im guessing the boot loader controls the date.or looks at it at the least..
only other option is to root . install cwm thru acer recovery installer.. DO a backup . with cwm and titanium . that will allow you to not have to re download all of your apps.
As i said the above is likely to not work.. but i know it was a issue on some old old main boards. YOUR FACTORY INSTALL COULD HAVE A ISSUE. Just never seen this with clock....
Good luck and sorry for being so long winded.
Thanks for your post. I'm still unable to get this date corrected. Tried it around four times and still no luck.
I'm just out of guess's on this one. Never heard of it before.
But you're better off taking it back for exchange. Considering it's happened since day one, and you haven't rooted.
Don't they have free wifi in Mcdonalds over there? Or try around the tourist type areas. Cafe's and such. Usually they try and kiss the feet of the tourists.

If your planning on getting a replacement you will have to re-download everything also, which is your reasoning for not doing a factory reset to fix the issue to start with.
I finally mustered the courage and did a factory reset. I had all my data wiped out. Took a long time to get my most used apps.
Well the thing is it did not solve the problem. Still when my tab starts I get the default date and time 1/1/2009 @ 5:30 AM.
One strange thing I noticed is that when I do a restart with my ac adaptor plugged in, the date and time are correct.
Just wanted to post so that it might help someone who's having the same problem.

Do NOT Update Firmware (until you read within)

Do not update the firmware on the MOJO to MO0110-WW. This update breaks WiFi. Pretty freaking annoying.
See my responses below. WiFi can be restored with a Factory Reset, but obviously, all your installed apps will be deleted. The next post down mentioned it, and I confirmed with MadCatz that this is the only way to fix WiFi.
Yes it does if you do factory reset will come back but for me i still get lines like loose cable when moving across screen already contacted mad catz but was pointless but at least wife was working again the update actually caused semi brick saw the file when i was e's explorer
Is there a change list for the new Firmware? I haven't seen the update pop on my device.
Talked with MadCatz representative: In order to restore WiFi functionality a Factory Reset is required. They are working on the next firmware update, but there is no ETA. The root tools will be available in the future, but once again, no ETA....So those of us who have installed a bunch of games and apps are out of luck at the moment.

When you follow the instructions in the MOJO tutorial program, they give you a link to the firmware with instructions to update. Just ignore them for now if you've got a bunch of things installed. If you've got a fairly fresh system, I guess go ahead and update, but remember to do a Factory Reset after the update.
I've not seen a changelog, so I don't know what it "fixes"...I just know it borked the WiFi.
Okay, thanks man. Yea I've got anything but a fresh system so I'll wait for a solid list of changes/root tools before I wipe.

The update doesn't seem to break anything else if you network with a cable. So if you have a tap don't let this hold you back.
Regardless, this would effect 99% of people using the MOJO who don't have their modem next to their TV. Don't downplay this as breaking wifi is sort of a MAJOR flaw of any update. Plus, the only way to bring back your wifi is to completely delete any apps or games you've spent hours installing....And that's sort of a MAJOR flaw as well. I would expect to have to do a wipe when moving from one ROM to another, but a simple OTA shouldn't screw over the entire system.

Not downplaying anything, it sucks major, though I'm sure it will be fixed in next update. I'm just saying for those of us who have a networked home and a tap near the TV don't worry about the update breaking anything else. Seems okay aside from WIFI, from what I can tell.
Yeah, I've not noticed anything else being broken...Or even fixed. I'm really hoping some devs jump on the MOJO and start porting over ROMS. I'd love to have PAC-Man or CM11 on this....At least root. I'm completely illiterate when it comes to modifying software.

This happened to me as well. After factory reset, mojo is running on 0110-w and wifi works. I re downloaded all my apps, and everything is running great. Small glitch, should be fixed in new firmware.
Hi,
I posted this in the other thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584620&page=2
I unfortunately could not replicate your wifi problem. One note is that most MOJOs that have been made available should have already been on "MO0110-WW", so this step could be skipped if you don't need it.
Before any update, you can also go into your google account settings, choose your account, and then choose "Sync now" from the menu in the top right. If wifi is not working, you can use a wired ethernet connection to at least do this step. If you're forced to do the "factory reset" option to fix the wifi, when you do the initial setup again, choose to "restore" from your google account. Outside of apps that have been sideloaded, this should start downloads of everything that was downloaded from the google play store shortly after the initial setup is finished. You can check which ones are being re-downloaded by going into the Play Store and then checking your "My apps".

Odd touchscreen glitch after installing Google APKs

I'm on the 5.4.0.1 build, and I'm having an odd reoccurring issue that's driving me crazy.
I'll install the Google stuff in the proper order using the APKs (instructions from a post on this site; I've tried other kits/instructions, same results), reboot at the proper times, and it'll work fine for a brief time. All of a sudden the touchscreen will start to glitch out badly-- a touch on a given spot will register countless presses on the same X axis, but going up or down the screen (looping at the edge) wildly, causing a lot of stuff I don't want to press to get pressed.
If I do a factory reset, it doesn't fix the issue. I have to rewrite the firmware by doing a ADB sideload after clearing cache and factory resetting to get the touchscreen to work normally again.
Any ideas? I really kinda need access to Google Play if at all possible.

Could be a bad screen. You can download touch screen repair apps and try a few of those. Could be dust stuck in between the casing and screen. A safety pin does good to clean that, just be careful. If a new device, you have 30 days to return it for a replacement. First I heard of this issue so that's about all I got right now.

This is my second unit. I expected it might be a hardware issue, and indeed it did act like it, but doing a adb sideload, etc does fix it.
I've also just confirmed the problem starts as soon as I install the Google Framework. Time to do another ADB sideload since I broke it again...
Okay,, no fault of anyone here, I've just hit my patience limit with the irritating Amazon-side stuff-- I've been fighting this for nearly a month and I'm almost out of return time.
Anyone got any suggestions on a relatively cheap Android tablet with at least comparable specs, actual Google Play support, and hopefully OS updates? Bonus if it doesn't have the Bluetooth controller lag issue my Nexus 5X suffers from.
Touch screen is prefect, no glitches discovered. @Firehawke, Fire HD 8 is a best possible cheap Android-based tablet of all the time, you can't find better option even with the cheap Chinese junk-droid from Aliexpress.

If I had a choice, I'd return it and get a Fire 7 (not one from 2017) and hope for one that has a rootable OS. I love my HD 8, but I've pretty much gutted it of Amazon. The only thing not making it 110% is not having root.

lockscreen removal for a J3 Luna Pro [Tracfone]

My brother passed away and was using this phone until a couple of weeks ago. I don't have the lockscreen pattern but I'm trying to do a little detective work regarding my brothers last activity. I reached out to law enforcement, but they don't have an active investigation and they suggested that I reach out to his cell provider [Tracfone] which I might try. Of specific interest to me is his text message activity on the day of his death.
Anyhow I scoured the net and tried to beat the lockscreen via emergency dialer, and also tried to connect via adb shell and MTP. I also don't think the device was registered via the samsung tools. I'm at the point where the device told me I have 9 unlock attempts left and it will erase the device after. The lockscreen seems to appear at device power and I think that it might not have booted android completely at this point.
Is anybody aware of a method to bypass the lockscreen which would work on this device so I can look into the details surrounding his death?
Sort of desperate here. There seems to be some software called Dr Fone that claims to have a lockscreen removal. However not sure that it works and on this device.
I may have a solution for this if you are wanting to preserve data if not check around on youtube for a video on FRP resetting this. I might have wrote a tutorial on this somewhere but I cant remember atm. Basically if you don't want to preserve the devices data (your brothers as you say) then you will simply factory reset it and then follow an FRP Removal tutorial you can find on here and or youtube.

All you need to do is find a recovery for that and flash it then go into the lock files and remove those. You can find some guides here on XDA or on youtube.
This was before I got into development, so adb isn't enabled, bootloader is still locked, and the phone is not rooted, so I'm skeptical I'd be able to flash. It's also running (I believe) Marshmallow, and most of those "find and delete lock settings" methods were for 4.x Kit-Kat and below. I could be wrong though.
If you have a particular thread in your watch list, I'd be grateful for the link.
I've been all over looking for a solution, hence me posting in here as opposed to creating a thread. Didn't want to reinvent the wheel if I didn't have to.
Despite the above limitations, the device has not received any updates since June 2017, it DOES go into MTP mode when I hook it to my laptop, and I have verified that it is vulnerable to the Mtpwn exploit.

Also, I turned a moto g7 Play into a Nethunter device and had tried Android PIN Bruteforce, but after entering in so many PINs it would make me wait 30 seconds to try again and I couldn't figure out how to get my g7 to keep the screen of the J3 on. Or wake it back up, since it requires you to hit power then swipe the screen.
I ended up wiping it because it had Pie and no workaround for the wifi throttling, and installed Q. It's rooted, but I haven't set up nethunter back up on it yet. I do have an S5 that I has Nethunter, but haven't set it up with HID support yet. Plus, the battery on that would drain too quickly to use for this process.

Do I lose anything permanently if I unlock/root/ROM?

Just to make sure there's no confusion, of course I understand that both unlocking and re-locking the bootloader result in a factory reset and all of my data stored on the phone will be lost if not otherwise backed up.
My question is about the hardware side of things. I know over the years some phones have been configured such that they lose DRM keys or other data when unlocked, which can not be backed up and thus result in permanent loss of software and sometimes (Sony Xperia Cameras) even hardware features.
Does OnePlus do anything like this on the 6T?
I totally get that if I'm rooted and/or running a custom ROM I may have issues with DRM, SafetyNet, etc while running a modified system. All of my previous Android devices have been rooted and ended their useful lives running CM/LOS versions 2-3 revisions beyond OEM support, I'm familiar with how that goes. My question is if I decide to go back to stock does everything go back to normal or is anything lost for good?

Just unlocking the bootloader shouldn't cause issues other than with a few apps such as Netflix streaming level. Rooting Will cause issues with Safety net and some apps although using magisk hide and random app name settings does a pretty good job of getting around that
unlocking the bootloader disables the encryption of filesystem, thus the phone will be wiped clean. So yes, you will lose anything not backed up.

This is partially wrong, unlocking the bootloader does not disable the encryption. It does wipe your phone clean though.
Unlocking the bootloader will cause you to loose Widevine L1 so Netflix and any other app that relies on this will not be able to play HD content, just as jestyr8 said.

Exactly, but this is reset if the boot loader is relocked, so it's not a permanent change, in answer to the OP query.

Thank you all, and yeah I don't care what I lose while running a modified system as long as I always have the option to just flash back to stock and make everything normal again if I want.
edit: Just to be clear about the Netflix thing, that means I lose some of the higher resolution options when playing on the device itself, right?
A few years ago one of the updates to the Netflix app made it just straight up stop working on my Note 4, even as a Chromecast controller.
I really don't care all that much either way because I basically never watch on my phone and all my main TVs have Fire Sticks or other devices with remotes and Netflix clients, but sometimes Chromecasting is the most convenient option so it'd be moderately annoying to lose that again.

Chromecast seems to work in most ROMs.
