Hey all, I just grabbed a 6P off of Cragislist, and coming from a Note 4 that couldn't be rooted I'm happier than a pig in **** about my current ROM Options. I've been out of the ROM scene since my Nexus 5. There's actually so many options I don't know where to start. I feel like a Stock ROM with Pixel stuff baked in. I kinda like the idea of the built in Bluetooth battery levels in Lineage but having a Nexus device it feels silly to go that far from stock. If someone could bring me up to speed on what my options are and help me narrow things down that would be fantastic.
I'd wait a week to make sure the phone works correctly and you get a feel of the phone before installing roms so that you know how to narrow down some issues should they arrive.

i second the poster above me , the phone is a piece of garbage and has MANY issues on stock rom , so good luck to you
i bought mine with the expectation of rooting and installing a custom rom the phone has so MANY issues on stock that you would have to be crazy to fuk around and attempt to put a custom rom on this piece of garbage , the stock MM and N won't even get you 2 hours of SOT
a custom rom will be a nightmare, also many other issues on stock rom , if you enjoy 1/2 hour SOT go for it

Custom ROM a nightmare? I'm on latest Dirty Unicorns with Flash kernel and have no issues. Battery life and performance have been great.

well does it get better battery life than stock N or stock MM, because my phone is garbage it will not get more than 2 hours of SOT on either MM or N, i RMA'd the phone , but it does not look like they even touched it, i sent it in with a glass screen protector on it and it came back with it still on , i sent the phone to huawei on MM and it came back on N 7.0
the phone gets better standby now, before on MM it would lose like 65% from when i went to bed to when i woke up , now it gets decent standby time on 7.0 but SOT is even more **** than before , looks like they did nothing to fix my phone so i guess this is the expected battery life , about 2 hour SOT , i see lots of other people complain about this phone SOT too i hate it ,it is absolutely worthless to me, it gets 2 hours of SOT but only if i am doing nothing if i run something demanding it gets hot and dies even sooner , run maps and it dies in less than an hour ,i would never attempt to mod it because
it has so many issues now on just stock
it's a piece of crap
i will probably try to RMA again and huawei will probably jerk me off and wast my time and cause me abother HUGE hassle agains and do fukall again and send me my phone back untouched and keep doing it till they run out the clock on the little left on my warranty , they suck their products sucks and their customer service sucks crap company, crap products

Wasn't on stock very long but my battery life was never that bad (4-5 hrs SoT on N). On DU 11.1 (7.1.1) with Flash kernel I can get 5-7 hrs SoT depending on usage. Idle drain is usually
.2-.5 per hour.

my phone is at 50% right now and it says 10% android system and 10% for android OS , is that normal for it drain 20% for those 2 things? SOT is 1:43 and 10%
also i heard 7.1.1 has major issues and your 6p will eventually get stuck in a boot loop if you ever updated to 7.1.1

Should vary depending on usage. I've noticed that Android OS is usually quite a bit lower than Android system.
I've heard that about 6P and 5x but both have been on 7.1.1 without any issues. My 6P doesn't even have early shutdown (still 99% battery capacity). Don't think every 6P that updated to 7.1.1 will eventually have boot loop of death. Would be bigger issue if that was the case.

Dude, you're just gonna ***** and complain on every thread? Obviously you're phone is borked. RMA, get a new and enjoy or move on to another phone. It's either that or learn how to take care of your battery (know how to operate a phone). My guess, it's user error. some ppl have a few issues here and there but nothing what you're talking about.
Hey, or a 3rd option. You don't even own the phone and are one of those ppl that crave attention bashing stuff you don't even own. That would be soooo sad if that is the case

i can assure you i do own the phone unfortunately
and i did RMA it already and huawei did NOTHING to it they just wasted my time and sent it back to me without doing anything at all to it
all they did was send it back just as i sent it to them and wasted everyones time , it was updated to N 7.0
and they sent me this shiny pen (see pic) , wow
so what should i do then ,go through this BS again and send them my phone back again and get it sent back to me again the same as i gave it again only worse or have them give me another POS that will most definitely have the same issues?how many times will they put me through this ****?
and the phone has had the issues since i unboxed it from day one so i don't know what you mean about taking care of the battery , and what could one even do to get the battery to discharge at a rate 4 times faster than normal in a few months of lite use
huehue way tells me there is nothing wrong with the phone, you tell me there is and i see other people all over the map saying they get 2 hours SOT or can't get 2 hours SOT and others say they get 4 ,5 6, 7,hours i don't know who to believe, the chinese have spies and shills everywhere shilling their crappy products or they just have **** QC

I'd like to second this quote. lol. I sometimes crackflash Roms that aren't stable just in free time and to test things but there are a few I can vouch for that are 100% stable.
My favs and both work 100 are DU and ABCrom. Pure Nexus is also a good one but I stay on either DU or ABC. I can't live without the hold power down for flashlight or double me tap to wake on dose and dt2w lockscreen for screen off. Ugh. Heaven sent. ?
Hey @nameback Glad your back. I had a Hammerhead. Was a damn good device back in the day! Happy flashing. ?This one's far superior.
Don't let all the talk about defective devices get to you. I've had a Nexus 5x since 2 mo the after they came out and this is my 2nd 6p (first one got smashed on a job) and I flash A-LOT and never had either crap out on me... Seems it's just a wild card type deal with defective units. I just looked and mine was made Dec 2016. I hope it's a refurb. At any rate can't do anything about it either way except hit up Hauwei and Google if they do crap out and see what happens. Cheers.
Edit
6p, ABCrom by kantjer
that title makes me think you need therapy

After your 5 posts, i'm not yet sure i've understood what you're trying to say...
OH, you're saying it's a good phone... Yeah you're right... It's a good phone... :good:
Some people have 6Ps that are lemons but I have never had any serious issues with mine. I'm on Cortex rom with ElementalEx Kernel and get 4 hours sot easily. You have a lot of options but I would stay on stock for at least a few days as previously suggested just to rule out potential problems with your phone. Megapixel was a good rom but I don't think it's being updated anymore so that isn't a good choice. Pure Nexus is heavily hyped and extremely overrated. I've heard good things about Dirty Unicorn but haven't flashed it myself. If you try Cortex I would recommend the January build rather than the current one.
+1 for keeping stock for a few days or even weeks.
I also haven't got any problem either. I've never been able to get under 4h SOT under normal use.
Later, you could try a different kernel. I've been using Flash kernel and I recommend it (and support is great). Have also been running Pixel stuffs but not anymore (launcher and GA but while they worked fine, they were gadgets IMO).
I just picked up used one less then year old. I'll admit was little disappointed in the battery performance but the increased charging rate makes up for my usage. I'm sticking with stock ROM for now rooted, substratum+swift back and Franco kernel.
Well here's where I'm at, this phone is running a TON of custom software already but he didn't tell me what exactly. He has Pixel Launcher, Pixel Boot Animation and TWRP with an unlocked bootloader. I can't use Android Pay because the Bootloader is unlocked. Can I re-lock the bootloader with TWRP installed and just install ROMs with Magisk?

You can't lock the bootloader with a custom recovery. That's pretty much a guaranteed bootloop. If you use Magisk and PhilsSu instead of SuperSU you should be able to use Android Pay. Not sure if the rom you are using makes a difference. I know people have done that successfully on multiple roms. Do you know if you are running a rom or stock with Pixel mods?

I've seen lots of threads about what SBC does, why it's bad, yadda yadda... but the point of this one isn't about that. I understand what it is and I understand the risks, and I'd like some input from people that have still been using them.
The first time I used a nightly of CM7 I flashed a SZ kernel not knowing it was SBC. I was blown away at the battery life I was getting. Some fellow Android enthusiast coworkers were convinced that something was 'wrong' with my phone when it took about an hour to drop from 100% to 99% -- and after about 16 hours I was over 60% still. It wasn't until later on that I stumbled upon some "SBC is bad, mmkay" posts/threads and horror stories of melting batteries and ruined phones. I immediately stopped using the SBC kernel.
The only issue that I ran into was that apps would occasionally seem to "time out" -- including system stuff. For example I'd try going to "Settings" and the screen would just dim like it was about to load or change over, and nothing would happen. Or I'd open Wordfeud and it would just be a black screen, like it didn't want to load. Typically I had to force stop it and reload it, then it'd work. That drove me insane. I don't know if it was related to the SBC, might have just been the kernel vs the ROM. Any input about that is appreciated.
Anyway... who has been using SBC kernels without any issues? It seems to me like if you're just smart about it (i.e. not leaving the phone charging all day long) then you shouldn't have issues (even though of course the risk is still there). I'd imagine there's quite a few XDA'ers that use SBC kernels because of the incredible battery life. You're the ones that I want to hear from.
Ill throw my opinion on this one...
Ive been using them since day one...never once had an issue. I beat the hell out of my phone and get great battery life with the stock battery. Ive tested different setups & combos of background data syncing...to this day I have not found any negative effects on my phone/battery. I leave it on the charger for about 8 hours per night when I sleep...if I dont stream music for 8 hours straight, I get about 8-11 hours of life out of my phone before needing to charge.
Here is my current battery usage on a SBC kernel. Currently at 82%

I'm using savaged Zen on CM7 SBC and charge for 8 or so hours while I sleep. It reaches a full charge after 2 of those hours so the rest of the time it is just trickling. That is the only time I charge it and have never had an issue with SBC.
I've been using sbc kernels since the beginning. Never had an issue. I have the Sprint extended battery and get 2 days battery life with moderate usage. I play games, text, phone, internet and surf the market quite a bit. Right now my phone has been off the charger for 16 hours and I still have 60% battery left. It was sitting idle in my locker at work for 8 hours but other than that it has been pretty steady usage.

First of all I'll say that I was a part of the people that believed that the SBC kernels should have a warning disclaimer back when that was going on.
Now that is out of the way...
I had received an extra brand new battery with my replaced Evo.
So I decided to start using the SBC kernel's because I figured that if the battery went...who cares... I have a brand new replacement.
I will stop now and say that I've done the HTC calibration talked about here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712990
I was using the SBC kernel for a good few months and although the battery life was better it started declining.
I, of course, re-calibrated the battery but that seems to not help either.
So, did the battery's life fail due to the SBC kernel?
Don't know.
Not going to make that claim.
Just chiming in.
Using a 3000 mAh I get a good 16 Hrs using the SBC more aggressive blah blah blah, and I am always on my phone streaming radio, web and texting.

hes saying anyones phone can last a long time while not being used, this thread needs to go away
I think what he means is, what kind of battery life do you get when using your phone hard? I have tried SBC and Non-sbc, but have not really noticed any difference. I am either surfing the web or playing games CONSTANTLY on my phone during the day, due to the nature of my job. I literally log 6+ continuous hours of surfing per day and, for me, the sbc kernels do not make an appreciable difference. This is not meant as a criticism, it is simply an observation of real-world results on my phone. I get up at 4:30 every morning. Phone comes off charger at 4:50 every morning. By 10am, I am plugging my phone in, cause I am down to 15%...maybe 15 minutes earlier, maybe 15 minutes later, but right around 10am. The kernel I use makes no difference with this. With that said, the kernel I use makes a BIG difference in my ENJOYMENT of that time. My phone has been really happy with anything other than stock. SZ is a close second, but none are as good as htc 15 for me (specifically at issue are screen-tearing in webpages, and smoothness of scrolling. When I was trying out netarchy, I had constant fc's of the browser and had to stop. I am sure the problem is in my phone, but that doesn't make it any more usable. None of the king kernels work well for me, causing tones of fc's and random reboots). I am currently living with stock cm cause it is stable, and I am feeling too lazy to flash a kernel just for some screen-tearing. I know. Pathetically lazy.

Or just you.
The purpose of this thread was to talk to people that have been using SBC kernals and haven't had issues.
I guess I'm not surprised at some of the dumbass comments that have been made. I don't even know why I wasted my time trying to start a discussion.
ive been using sbc kernels since the beginning too, other than the major glitch with them (fix is to not have plugged in while rebooting, or unplug then replug to reset charging) I am very satisfied and thank FSM that ms79723 made sbc for us
my stock battery still feels like its new, I don't notice any inconsistant drain patterns
I use my phone heavy, i can drain my stock battery in 4hrs and my chinese fake 3500 in 7hrs. constant surfing, downloading, texting, talking and tethering. I do it daily not rarely, my nand memory should be failing by now and I'm surprised my batteries have survived this long due to abuse nonsbc related.
the longest my phone went without a sbc kernel was an hour while testing cm stock kernel and I refuse to flash a non sbc kernel.
I will make it known when my battery dies from sbc, so far so good, knocks on wood

Well thank you Steve Jobs for telling us what we need.
I've been using them for a few months and didn't realize I used them incorrectly until a week ago. I normally got great battery life but I found out that I had to let it charge overnight. I never left my phone overnight while charging so I guess I didn't push the kernels to the max. What I would do is just let it charge past 100% for like an hour and then take it off. I only thought people with 3500 batteries should leave it overnight and boy was I wrong. Other day I left my phone overnight for the FIRST time and I really saw the difference; it's funny because the way I know it was working is the battery monitor widget was showing 12-14mA's all night(finally witnessed trickle charging). Man was I amazed lol. Sorry for the long cluttered rant I'm on my phone so I'm trying to keep this short.

I've been using it for 2 days and so far I have nothing but good things to say about it. The battery life so far has been top notch. My phone has currently been off the charger for 15 hours and 2 minutes, and I still have 41% battery left. It's very responsive. Everything works on my HW003 Evo. The one problem I have discovered so far is that when I record a video, once I'm done it force closes the video app. But the good thing is that the recorded video is saved intact and I can re-open my camcorder app immediately if I want to record another video. So it's really not a big issue. Other than that everything else sems to be working very smoothly. I have Go Launcher EX running on top of it and everything is super-fast. So far I'm really loving this leaked ROM. What about you guys(and girls)???

Well, I took it off the charger just after midnight last night, and I woke up at 7am. So 7 of those hours it was resting. But since then I've been to the gym and listened to music the whole time, sent a few texts, received about 30-40 texts from twitter, browsed the web for some of the links, viewed some android central youtube videos, updated some apps in the Market, made 2 phone calls, etc.. The point is with my last ROM and kernel, normally I'd be at about 15% battery by now.. There seems to be a noticeable improvement. But I posted this thread because I'm wondering if it's my imagination or if anyone else is having similar experiences.

A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
Where's a link for it? I wanna try this out and put in my .02!
Fyi my g1 only lasted 4-6 hours on a charge using stock battery, I turned off the radio and let it sit in my sock drawer it stayed on in stand by for nearly a week on that same battery.
These threads bragging about battery life are just BS, im sure if I want all day not using my evo I'd also get 16+ hours on a stock. I typically get a good 14-16 hours using my 3000 mAh battery and being constantly on my phone.
I noticed a lump in my battery last night (SBC maybe?) And now im back on the stock battery, this is my 3rd time today its back on the charger, my point? None but these threads don't mean a thing unless there's any really useful information to significantly extend the battery, especially to us users who do use our phones and not just let them sit idol all day.

If anyone says a phone can last more than 4-5 hours, then using a phone to them is turning the screen on to check the time, then quickly turning it off.
Anyways link? I wanna use Sense with Gingerbread.
He is obviously using his phone because 40 percent of it is the display

Last I checked there's a few in the development forum, but they are ports and a work in progress and have a lot of things broken. As son as there is a stable gingersense im all over that.
I loaded the leaked 2.3.3/sense 1.0 that tmartin put together. It is 100% functional for me. Some people were having issues with the screen staying at 100% brightness, and the camera acting strange. I think that may have been a variety of factors, wipe quality, hardware number, and screen type.
The rom was flawless for me. I have a 3500 battery and used my phone like a crackhead for 15.5 hours before the battery died. I was web surfing most of the time, and reading the leak thread that hit over a 1000 posts in a day before the op locked it up.
I am now using the misfit gingersense rom, and it is working 100% for me, apart from some very minor black on black text when word suggestions pop up using swype.

I flashed the tmartin 2.3.3 sense leak as well. I liked it for the most part...but it wasn't anything really special...some menu changes and it did have the nice fast boot feature. Sense was still a little sluggish when scrolling through home screens. I flashed back to cm7....what I do miss is the stable 4g that I do not get with cm7 final.

Wtf are you talking about!?
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
This post was not just about battery life. That was just one aspect of it. I posted it to get feedback from others who are also running the ROM put together by TMartin from the leak. I still don't get why people get so funny acting when it comes to others talking about how long their battery lasts. If you don't like it or don't care to hear about it then move on, as it may not be for you. But others may be interested to see if it improves their battery life. Remember, every post here isn't catered just for you. The world is bigger than just you. Anyway, I use my phone quite regularly, whether it be browsing the web, viewing video, texting, listening to music, etc.
I also forgot to mention that I'm using the stock battery.
For those who asked where they can find the download, here ya go. It's linked in the first post:

Dude, your battery might have cancer. You should do a battery self-exam at least once every month. It's best that you do it in the shower so that the battery can hang low. Make sure you roll your battery through your fingers to check for any abnormal growth or lump.
If you feel a lump or that the shape of your battery has changed at all, don't hesitate to see your doctor. Remember, catching battery cancer in the earliest stages gives you a much better chance at survival!

I layed on a flat surface and noticed it rocked a little bit, so yea it has a slight deformity. Dr. Abu ghraib can have a look at it tomorrow.
I flashed it and been running it for a few hours now. Its alright, nothing ground breaking or impressive. Im kinda disappointed about no vertical battery or the on/tv off effect like the asop roms have. I thought I was gonna see that in gingersense. No big deal though, its same ol sense on gingerbread. I did notice some improvements in the browser. Fair enough, its cool, but still a little buggy.
Screen dimming works for me BTW, on my 0003.
Tomorrow will be the real test as far as the battery goes.
What bugs have you noticed?
I flashed the stock image and i found the battery life abysmal. Not even a day
7-8 hrs tops with barely any usage
Anyone has experienced the same issue
Give it a few days and see if it improves. Sometimes drastic updates can have adverse effects on the battery

I have one of the best battery life on O right now and I'm not pointing fingers to anything but google.
I was excited after hearing "Android Vitals" and they are on point about it.
Try to flash a custom kernel like EX or Flash though Ex's kernel isn't fully committed with the O source code but you may at least try it. On a side note there are still apps out there that aren't coded properly for O which would probably hinder your angler so look out for them a lot.
Thank you everyone for pitching in
Like I mentioned I flashed the stock image and gave it 2 days but as I disconnect the phone from the charger at around 9 AM (100%) , by 3-4 PM I am being left with 30% or less . By 6 PM it starts beeping as it hovers 15%
I barely use the phone at work. I just do occasional messaging (text and whatsapp). I removed all apps except the ones that I really need. No games...etc
I did flash the other day the EX Kernel ( Beta for O) for which I have the paid manager version.
It drives me crazy as it seems to be draining at a very fast rate with no apparent reason.
What's even more frustrating is that the built in battery app doesn't shed much light. The process that takes the most battery is "System" but that's all.
Maybe it's time for a new phone

Yes, I went back to paranoid nougat, because I got the same
battery experience as you with O. But I'm reading that you use
what's app, do you can play a video if someone sending you one? Since the O previews for me the videos are just loading but not playing, and that's only the case by using android O, doesn't matter if I use what's app or what's app beta.
I got the 2% battery drain bug and sometimes i dont, ive reflashed oreo about 8 times lol, sometimes it dies at 15%..

No, just my twrp backup, you can stay on latest bootloader and radio. Strange thing with whats app, may oreo doesn't like my internal, if final release come I will complete clean flash with fastboot.
Edit: check latest Pixeldust rom, it's like pa with a bit more useful features
I think my phone may be defective
Even on Paranoid the battery seems bad

Battery update.- Running kylo kernel r9 , working great so far just a few personal tweaks applied.

I'm not sure what you're expecting, give the rom some time and charges to settle battery. How old is your phone? If you don't have patience flash stock image and completely wipe your phone if you think something is faulty.
Well...
I used to get like a day out of the phone . With my minimal usage I would disconnect it in the morning and still have like 30-40% when getting back home in the evening.
All of the sudden one day I was just on my way home and I noticed the phone was off. I tried power it back on but it kept on flashing red as it was totally drained. Since then battery went downhill.
I'm not crazy and I do not have unrealistic expectations but 5 or 6 hours of battery with almost no usage seems a bit off. I gauged just by looking at the numbers being something ridiculous like 10% an hour.
I did wipe and flash the stock few times. Oreo then Nougat
Since the issue persisted I am thinking the phone just went bad.
If your battery is faulty, then it's faulty, that's why i asked how old your phone is. Ain't there battery health apps to take a look how worse it is.
Yeah I think it's maybe 1yr and half old.
I'm starting to evaluate those Essentials and Pixels 2.
Or better get a Pixel 1st gen if they drop low enough
Sounds to me like your battery is worn out. I'm amazed that you got 1.5 years out of it because I've seen posts from people who didn't even make it a year. You mentioned that it's draining 2% at a time and shuts down at 15%, which are pretty strong indicators that your battery is shot.

Hard to say, I will run accubattery for week, after a first charge it doesn't look very promising for me too, and my phone is a bit over a year old. may some other users know a better tool or app, but this one doesn't seem to be so bad. Let's see what happens after some charges.

Same for me, with Oreo it's even worse
Update, kylo kernel r9, works fine however my phone now dies at 5% instead of 15%-20% much better but still.
Hi,
Phone is running stock firmware and not rooted.
Im thinking its the phone and not software related as issue seemed to being happening out of no where after the phone for the last 9 months had been superb for battery life considering usage it gets.
Originally thought it could have been an app update that caused it so uninstalled all previously installed and updated apps but same issue keeps happening with rapid battery drop off. Next course of action was to format phone and start from scratch with nothing installed and only my gmail account added. The same issue with battery rapidly dropping when not in airplane mode. Issue is shown in screen captures below with phone basically stock and no apps installed.
First 2 images show a day where I was working and had phone in and out of Airplane mode which shows the graduall drop off of power but then the drastic vertical drop was when I put phone back into service.

Can anyone shed some light on this? is my battery fried?
On another note should this need to be sent back under warranty it was originally bought direct from Amazon spain - would it be ZTE UK I contact and if so whats the best way to do this?
Thanks for looking....
It seems some of us has this issue. It might be software like the modem! Since it drains so fast from a weak signal. I really hope there's a fix. I hope oreo fixes this too

Although if you look at my first screen capture even at times when the phone has strong signal there is severe drop off of power. Has there be any mention of ZTE replacing batterys under warranty?
I was telling on XDA that b08 is worst ROM ever. More people have this issue, its software related. Not hardware of any kind. Cant recall what is the name of android battery saving function. Snooze or something. It doesn't work at all. I managed to improve battery life by uninstalling some apps that maybe drain battery. But my phone can't manage to stay alive for more then 8 hours moderate usage. Same thing goes for mic echo issue. That is not user fault. Same goes here with German b08 ROM. I personally thing that German group is more like copy paste type of developers then actual European support.
For me best ROM so far in terms of battery life was MM B06
Whats most irritating is that i am back with old type of resolving issue about this phone. Disabling 2/3 of processes. But in this case for battery sake not processor or ram issue
this is getting crazy theres like 3 threads now of battery drains

Don't even know what it is. I'm really guessing it is A2017U Bootstack B35. Any custom rom under any kernel yields the same horrible battery life. I'm afraid of flashing an older bootstack. Perhaps the safest one is LineageOS universal bootloader B15 and Modem
https://imgur.com/a/sH17g
That battery usage is NOT normal. I believe culprit is the modem. The battery seems to take a hit more when the signal changes rapidly. I had a strange anomaly yesterday when I had 69% battery for over 40 minutes. The signal was more or less much more stable than that in another area. Those screenshots were taken at work. I've never had that much drain prior to updating bootstack
Edit: this is that anomaly from yesterday https://imgur.com/a/VnDBS the signal was more or less more stable and the battery was really good. Like normal. And that was with music playing from Spotify via mobile data and Dolby atmos and viper4a while browsing Facebook and using messenger. So yes, I believe it could be the modem
@DrakenFX whats your opinion on this?
Why would every user not be experiencing the same battery issues?

My question to everyone with this problem was if flashing a full stock image through MiFlash wouldn't solve it. I've had this problem; also random reboots which didn't get fixed even by updating from M to N, and MiFlash (or going LOS then back to stock) fixed it. I thought i had told you to use miflash, but it must have been someone else lol
What's the point in fragmenting the issue in like 3 different threads? Are the other ones dead?

Nope, not like that.
I bought my phone in February. I mostly used it with stock, but tried some custom ROMs although most were horrible to use back then. One day around May (i think) I had some trouble going back to stock, and I DFU-bricked my phone. So, 4th categ brick repair. After using MiFlash to install Marshmallow B10 I used it for a couple weeks (Xposed being one of the reasons), but battery life was around 3.5h SOT and I had random reboots, even without xposed... I updated to the latest N and it was exactly the same. Back to the drawing board then.
So I flashed RR, then a kernel, then added substratum + swift black to the mix, and I got 7h SOT.
Then I got bored of RR and returned to stock, and that's when I got the 3 hours of overall battery (not even SOT) so I used Nuclea for like a month. After that I went back to stock and had the usual 4-5h SOT.
You basically have to reinstall the system from the ground up and your battery life will get fixed eventually if it is a software problem. But better do it fast, because each charging cycle is bad for the battery

I don't know about the speakers but I believe they sound okay (way better than my friends' S7edge/S8/3T for sure xd). As of headphones you HAVE to flash the AK4490 patch or you'll be using the other DAC.
I recommend to use Viper4ARISE or the V4A magisk module from shadysquirrel. You'll learn to live without Atmos since the AK4490 will work on everything, so it compensates with soundstage.

So, it seems like my battery isn't quite behaving itself. I've turned of Moto Display, underclock GPU to 300mhz, and switched to 1080p instead of 1440p, used Amplify to control wakelocks and Greenify to hibernate things that like to run in the background. I have never gotten more than about 1hr30min of screen time. My phone stays relatively cool unless I'm playing a lot of games or watching a lot of videos on YouTube. I have a handful of xposed plugins (Amplify, GravityBox, Greenify, NougatNavigation Bar (I like the solid icons rather than the lines that comes with stock N) and Status Bar Cleanup).
Anyone think I should get a new battery? Not under warranty, so I can't do anything via that route.
Also, is eBay a good enough place to find a replacement battery as long as I make sure it's not a counterfeit?
Thanks everyone for any help.
Can you be more specific what you mean by your battery not behaving itself? Random shut down or at any particular battery level? Sudden drop off battery percentage ofb10% or more shortly after charger disconnect? Has the unusual battery occurred after any specific updates to any of your apps? Have you tried a factory reset (I know it's painful but it does help on occasion)? Just throwing it out there.

I rarely ever got 3 hours... GSAM's average SOT over time was about 2h 20m... Although I did have occasional instances with 4 hours (on WiFi, reading, at night, very low drainage usage). Not really the point though
Should you replace the battery, well, from what you say it sounds like it is due... The real problem is getting a quality replacement. You can find a ton of them on eBay or other online markets, but most users here will tell you that you can't get an OEM battery any more no matter what the seller says, they just don't exist, and most of the ones that state "new" are just knock-offs or batteries for other devices that are re-purposed (and often of lower capacity). There is a serious market for cell phone batteries, and there are lots of counterfeits out and just out-right lies there, so the real problem is getting a good replacement battery. It is literally luck...
Remember, this device is 2.5 years old... Meaning most batteries for it were likely made prior to that. Although I paint a gloomy picture (it is a bit gloomy) there has to be some decent ones out there, but expect to pay $20+ and it will still be a crap shoot. Remember that when replacing the battery in this device, it isn't the easiest so do your homework. You will likely want a new back cover assembly (door and adhesive) as well because a good majority of the time they get destroyed when performing the operation.
Oh, and before you go down this road I suggest wiping your device... everything... and set it back up with the absolute bare minimum stuff (don't install anything if possible) for a couple days and retest your SOT. Not saying that's the case here, but Nougat's battery/app management is pretty good and we have seen more and more tales of things like Greenify/Amplify and other tweaks for helping battery life having the opposite effect, with some people noting the more they try to tweak it the worse it gets. Just a thought...

Sudden drop off battery percentage ofb10% or more shortly after charger disconnect? Has the unusual battery occurred after any specific updates to any of your apps? Have you tried a factory reset (I know it's painful but it does help on occasion)? Just throwing it out there.

Quite a few times my battery would drop ~5-6% just after I remove it from the charger (regular USB power, not the turbo charger). I have tried a factory once and I let the battery do the "break in" period just to see if the battery was calibrated or not. So far it seems it is calibrated...I've also tried draining the battery until it my it shuts off, then using the turbo charger and letting it sit for like ~8 hours (I forget where I saw that specific bit of advice. It was in response to someone else posting...I don't even remember where. Possibly XDA, not 100% sure).

I found my capacity to be 3034mAh...which is....quite odd. My battery isn't even fully charged.

I actually tried to replace the battery once and I did such a terrible job that I ruined the contact points on the ribbon that connects to the main board. I wish I could get a new phone (like a Pixel 2) but I have nowhere near enough income or funds set aside for that. Maybe later this year...hopefully...and not necessarily a Pixel 2 but something that runs very close to stock AOSP. I would definitely miss the 2 front facing speakers on anything else. I saw ZTE Axon 7 and the Razer phone has them too...but no idea how close they are to stock AOSP. Maybe I'll take the plunge into flashing the stock Nougat images and let it be naked for a few days. That sure would be annoying...but if it helps my MXPE survive in good shape until I can afford another phone I'm all in.
Thanks everyone for the help! I'll look into my options and hopefully I can get a bit more time out of this phone until I can afford a newer one that doesn't have the stupid Snapdragon 808. I shake my fist at thee, battery hog!
I'm on Nougat stock and I keep getting battery down at 25-35% regularely. I can see that when I put phone in charge after it shuts down percentage charge numbers start where power down happened at 25-35% Tried a battery calibrate weeks ago with a play store app. At first looked like it got fixed but just for a day or so and back with same problem. Also SoT is terrible, getting max 1h and if i do a heavy use even less and I dont even use social media at all. No idea if its a dead battery or software problem seeing I was on custom rom before i reverted back on stock nougat. Waiting for a decent Nougat modem stock Rom to try it once again to see if a difference or not.

"Battery calibration" apps don't work... The proper way to "recalibrate" a battery in modern Moto devices is https://motorola-global-en-uk.custh...moto-g4-g4-plus/topic/battery/battery-reset/1
Honestly, if this does nothing, try a cache wipe, and if that doesn't help do a factory reset. If that fails as well, then the battery is likely beyond it's useful life (becoming more and more common lately) and will need to be replaced if you can find a quality replacement. There is no "trick" to getting the battery back.
It seems these batteries were engineered for 18-24 months of life and that is about it, as most modern devices themselves are only intended for a max of 24 months of usable life anyway... They sure seem to drop off significantly in charge capacity after that point.
Try this app? AccuBattery
After a couple of charge cycles it shows my battery at 89% of max. My manufacture date is 11-16-2016, so just over a year old. Of course, the battery could have been made before then by some months, I don't know.
