Does the International S7 Edge (SM-G935f) come plastic wrapped / sealed? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi I have just ordered a S7 Edge form the UK and will use it in South Africa. It arrived with a sticker sealing the box but no plastic wrapping - on asking the supplier said "Samsung phones boxes are different from iphone boxes and do not come shrink wrapped, they are only sealed by a manufacturer seal, the phone is brand new and never been used."
Did anyone else's phones come unwrapped or should I be worried?

Got mine unwrapped so.. i think your good

Thanks - did you have to make a 5 minute call in the UK first to unlock it? sounds like a strange way to unlock and unlocked device!

I live in belgium and got an unlocked one. Weird way to unlock it but ok.. If you want to make sure you have an official device, instal Phone INFO at the play store.. There you can see if its an official one or a copy

Mine came with just a sticker sealing. It doesn't come like iPhone boxes indeed. I also have an unlocked phone and never had to call anything to unlock the phone lol. I only know that it must be activated with a Europe sim card.

Okay thanks for the info - maybe the 5 minutes call is to activate it - they did say it was unlocked for UK and Europe but for rest of world to make the 5 min call - does still sounds odd though

I Bought A O2 Locked HTC HD2, Bad Idea?

Heres the story:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First I was going to buy it off Amazon, unlocked, £450 <-- Awesome!
But then I checked the next day, and it went up to £519, not sure if there was an original error or I was just very unlucky, needless to say I was very angry and dissapointed
So I headed over to ebay, I wasn't finding anything to great (price wise) but then I found a O2 locked brand new HD2. As I was going to use an O2 PAYG sim card anyway, I decided that that would be the phone I bought
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everything seemed fine, but just now I've been reading around on forums (includng xda) and Ive seen that O2 models mess around with the HD2's software, ripping some of the things out of it (like the wifi router), so now Im worried im not going to have a very good version.
+ The phone is an unwanted upgrade from the guy on ebay, I didnt think that would make any difference going together with a PAYG sim, but now Im worrying.
Final question, will I have O2 branding on the back?

Dont worry. If the o2 software bothers you you can always put a stock htc rom on. See here for information.
Oh and there is no o2 branding on the case and barely any in the ROM either tbh. I have one myself. Im considering following the above guide 2moz just for the hell of it although i havent had any probs with the o2 rom so far.

No external branding from what I'm aware, but using goldcard / hardspl (when its out) you can flash to any standard rom and get the features back
damn you optiknerv, you beat me too it
Wow thanks guys, another LOAD off my mind, geez xda forums are great
So there are no problems right?
Oh and what are your views on the fact that its somebody elses contract upgrade?

Mines O2 free upgrade on my contract. There is zero branding on the hardware and pretty much the only O2 branding i have seen on the phone is there wallpaper. I have filled out the form on there website to get it unlocked in case I ever need to use it on another network.
The only problem i have with it is that i am going have to jump through the hoops of using the goldcard method the flash it but i guess that's not to hard.

What do you mean by jump through hoops, whats the problem?
Also could you send me a link to the form for unlocking? I'm thinking it might be a good idea for the future. Could I unlock now and keep my O2 PAYG card in it as normal, I could right? It would just be like using the sim card in a phone that was locked from the start

branded HTC devices
I made some bad experiences with an o2-branded HTC Touch HD from Germany. In case of warrenty HTC told me to contact an o2-shop in order to get it repaired. It took some extra time to get it back because I had to give it to o2 (and they sent it to htc) Therefore I decided to buy a HTC HD2 without any branding to avoid this kindergarden games this time and forever.
The second point is that (if you don't want do use HSPL) branded roms are published not that regularly as stock-unbranded are.
PS: o2 costumers help each other all across Europe, don't they?!!

That is true but he has bought it second hand and so he doesnt have a warranty as a second owner. Flame me if ive got buyers rights wrong.
Good choice. You can install the WiFi router separately and the total ammount of branding on the phone is the wallpaper which you can change. And the O2 doesnt seem to have half the bugs that people are complaining about.
My handset speaker doesnt crackle, all of my SMSs send with no problem, there are no spelling mistakes and all is well with the phone!
I think this is the correct link
https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset Unlocking Form
basically O2 are unlocking there phones for free. Sounds like it takes a while for them to give you the unlock code. Think it told me 28 days or something. I am in no rush to have it unlocked just figured its worth doing just in case.

Yeah thats one of the only problems I have with it, Its not really second hand though, its unopened, but I guess that still kinda counts as SH. Heres a question for you, is there anyway I can get new warranty on it from either O2 or HTC ?
Reading the warrenty agreement in my O2 HD2 i bought on ebay, it mentions about second hand buyers, (i should have read it a bit more); but its a case of, if you can show proof of purchase, it should be no problem.

He will be able to print his receipt in his "My o2". I can print all my upgrades etc from this screen. Although the info in minimal, its better than nothing. Also take a note of his address and print off the ebay item as proof of purchase.
Please also note, regardless that the phone is second hand you will have warranty with it. The warranty is covered on the handset regardless who owns it. fact.
Mines an upgrade and the only bit of paper work i have for it is a single piece of paper confirming the order that came with the handset. Pretty much just has my name, the phones name and a return sticker on it. So i don't imagine he will have anything that will help you use the warranty.
It needs to be your proof of purchase.
Otherwise there's no proof it belongs to you.
In the end Ive decided Im going to cancel the one on Ebay and buy a brand new one from expansys, it may be a little more, but at least its got warranty, I can return the product If I need too and its not unlocked.
I just hope the guy on ebay doesn't get too angry at me

[Q] Tips & Pointers Needed for buying a HTC Wildfire

Hi All,
I need some tips and pointers on buying a htc wildfire on gumtree. The person is saying that it is brand new in box used for 2 hours.
Could you tell me some things to look out for and to check when buying second hand.
you could probably ask if the phone has been updated to 2.2.1
If you are wanting to root it or think you might at a later date you really dont want a 2.2.1

Hi, its not from a shop, the person said its was a present for his girlfriend but she never wanted it and used it for 2 hours, i think it locked to vodafone. Im not sure if i can post the link to the ad on xda, can i do that?
how much is it, if your on a different network you'll have to pay to unlock it, but it will still be loaded with voda apps that you won't be able to use, and i would imagine a vodaphone splash screen when you boot. if you do get it for a good price and its still 2.1 you could root and flash a custom rom which will get rid of preloaded bloatware. also i'm not sure if warranty is transferrable.

hes selling it for £160 but i think i can budge him down to about £20 down, What do you recon should i just buy one new?
that seems a bit excessive, they are selling over here brand new on prepaid for$299
australian, according to exchange rates about 187 quid
and i've seen as low as $260. they are locked to a carrier same as the one you are looking and also unlocked on ebay for $280. in the end of course its your call, but if you have to unlock its going to cost as much as a brand new phone and have bloatware from voda.
and if there is something wrong, with a retailer you can normally get an immediate swap if less than 14 days old, i would presume you would need original receipts from 2nd hand phone for warranty sake.
Used is used, even if its 5 minutes.
You never know what he has done with the phone.
I just suggest you to buy a brand new factory one, that way you will never have any problems, and even if you will, they will be easily solve-able.
The extra cash is well worth it.
I got a used one from e-bay for £130 a couple of months ago but they were selling them for £129-99 in Phones4U a couple of weeks ago but you had to pick a network and buy £10 top up, but I dont know if the deal is still available

[Q] URGENT !! Dell venue pro not switching on(dead) ..Error while flashing

URGENT..Please help !! :fingers-crossed:
The device was initially freezing a lot ..So I happened to change the sd card to a 16 gb microsdhc from a 8gb one..But it still was having the same problems..Then I got to know about the EM app in the phone and I by mistake updated the touch firmware in it.
That is when I decided to flash the phone. Now while flashing the phone the phone froze all of a sudden(as already mentioned this was my original(earlier) problem). And the command prompt through which I was flashing the phone showed an error,so I removed the USB cable. From then,I'm not able to even switch on the phone(Not even able to see the Dell logo).
And please give me a solution about the touch firmware that I updated by mistake(That rendered the phone unresponsive to touch)
And there is no light even in the keyboard.
Thank you .

AFAIK, once you do the touch screen firmware update via EM, your phone can't be fixed via USB flashing anymore. From what I've read the unbricking process here on xda won't work at least. I'm not sure if a RIFF box would do it with what we have on the DVP so somene might want to chime in on this?
Does the computer recognize the phone even?

Have a google at riff box/jtag man. I think someone here was doing something with one to try and revive his bricked DVP. Have a seach and contact him maybe?
And if all else fails, someone is selling a DVP system board off the bay for $40. I have no idea about the details of the listing so check it out yourself before jumping the gun. AFAIK, it even comes with a 16GB card And make sure it's worth the $40 for such an old phone... I regreted purchasing a glass for $50 to fix another cracked glass DVP when you can get one for not that much more if you wait for deals...

(the DVP is quite easy to tear down BTW, just search the forums for a service manual)

I don't know buying this mother board would certainly assure me that my dvp would get revived back.
And also would need the perfect tools to open up the phone ...right? Would you suggest me to open-up the dvp.(the warranty is already void).
Although I'm pursuing bachelors in technology,I've never opened-up a phone .. I don't want to regret it

Hey..just saw your post..Have you bought the system board? Is the phone now working properly ?
What kind of tools did you use ?
How did you open up the phone ?
Thanks
Hi, i bought my system board yesterday, tracking number says it will arrive at my house by monday so i'll let you know how it goes.. swapping a mother board out always fixes system errors which bricking would categorize under.. it wouldnt fix things like phone not charging or screen problems but definitely will fix cpu issues..

Oh hey mykalogist, just PM you. Didn't know you already bought the baby. Good luck with it! :victory:
And yes, SANTHOSHGODSPEED, I can't say for sure it'll fix whatever is up with your phone, but if it was mine, I would give it a try for that price. It seems very probable since so much is on that DVP board like MK said. And don't worry about taking open the phone. Just remember that it's already broken. Being physically broken further ain't so bad right?
I've taken open a few phones and the DVP is really one of the easiest. Just grab the service manual from here and peak through it before you attack it (or youtube it first). The hardest part I find is really just taking the back cover off (fingernails and guitar pick help). After that, it's easy breezy.
And I think all you need is a couple of Torx screw drivers. I think a T4 and T5 but I can't remember exactly. Tweezers or a small pair of pliers help for taking out the microSD card.
UPDATE!! :good:
Ok so i recieved my system board today from RAKI computers on ebay thanks to Aleounge's great find.. i installed the system board and my phone works flawlessly.. yay its alive again!!.. i only have two bad things to mention however.. before i do let me point out that you will be getting a totally new phone new IMEI, service tag and E sevice number so your old phone doesnt exist anymore... ok my bads, the service board i got is locked to a network i have no idea what it is i'm still pending a find i'll be checking out my EM here shortly to see what network it is.. i tried both T-Mobile and AT&T sim cards and none of them were accepted, its asking me for a PIN/Unlock code. And remember your phone is now a totally new phone so when you call dell for this unlock code they will ask for your phone info which will be listed under a different owner so they wont give it to you until you provided them your purchase invoice from RAKI Computer. Oh so thats my update, phone works and booted up again and i was able to install updates up to Tango but the phone will not accept my T-Mobile or AT&T sim ... Thanks again Aleounge and i hope this helps someone.. Remember to Rep me one

Hey ..thanks for the update ..
So according to you the phone is working fine and its booted-up and that you are able to update it to tango ..
But you are not able to use the phone with any mobile carrier...ie you are not able to make or receive calls..is that right ?
So you would not advice me to go with that option ?? or do you?
How's the tango update ? Is there much of a difference to the start screen ? Are you able to resize the live tiles ?
And if you do like me to go forward with that ..Can you please tell me how you disassembled and assembled it ?
Looking forward to you reply

Yes exactly right.. I found out via my EM that the system board i bought is currently locked to Cincinnati Bell Wireless(CBW).. Because of this it will not accept my T-Mobile Sim or At&T.. The good thing about this is that you will get a new Service Tag, IMEI and E Service number Sticker with the system board.. This information will be blank as if you purchased a new phone. So all you have to do is call Dell Mobility Support.. They are gonna ask you for this info then ask for a copy of your Purchase invoice as proof.. When you send them this information they will register then new system board which is an entirely new phone to your name and give you the Unlock/Pin code to Bypass your sim error.. I havent messed around with tango much so i dont know the new features yet.. Hope this helps..
Can you check what the rom version is?
I havnt heard of a Cbell locked VP before (it's possible I merely overlooked this though)
It's EM -> Phone Information -> SW version.
I assume it'll be something like
Code:
2250.1800.7720.219
GLEOS2A421934_?
CBW-US

You see that's the problem for me ..I'm from India and Dell representatives don't know a thing about this phone(they don't even know if this phone was ever launched in the market)..And at the same time I can't call the US helpline(as they would advice me to call the indian helpline;which is of no use..)..So even if I get this phone assembled I won't be able to make calls with it..(Unless I know someone in the US)
Yes it was CBW-US.. and it was locked to that network.. i called Dell and you are right they dont know anything about anything.. i waited on the phone for hours and didnt get any good news from they just loop holes.. But i found this guy that knew everything about the Dell Venue pro, sent him my imei and the network it was locked to and got the phone unlocked, i only paid 16$ on ebay and he's located in china where the phone was manufactured so i gave him my trust and it came through.. He unlocked the phone in literally 10mins.. i've been using it Flawless ever since..

Hey you guys, make sure to give "[email protected]" a try first with the unlocking (search the forum for more details). I've unlocked at least 4 DVPs and for the last two (very recent), I don't recall even mentioning it was locked to TMO. I think now that the DVP has hit EOL, Dell doesn't care too much about finding out who the original owner is (they asked for the first couple I tried unlocking, but I never actually mentioned it as I got them used and I don't even know the owners) or the other specifics. Just give them a try first since well... it's free! If it's a no go, go with what MK suggested?
A tip I think might help is to mention you're using it for business and will be leaving the country shortly. I also brought up how much I liked the phone

[email protected] wont help you because the system board you get from ebay will be unregistered.. I tried and got a response saying the phone is blank(unregistered) in their system so i need to call the mobility support to register the phone then reply with the phone info.. I called Mobility but theyre so unprofessional, i had to call back 5 times to get with someone who actually knows what they were talking about and still didnt get the phone registered as theyre telling me i had to wait 2-3 days and some run around.. so i met this chinese guy who said he knew how to unlock it in 10min, i sent him the paypal $16 and phone was unlocked right after.. Dell Support sucks.

AT&T Branding

So, I hate my phones being branded with the AT&T logo. I went to one of my local AT&T stores today, and they told me what I expected: that even if I ordered an unsubsidized phone over the tele, that they'd still be branded with their logo.
Looking online at Negri Electronics SGH-I337 (unlocked), they are all unbranded (but they're also not yet in stock). I was wondering if all that was just a ruse, un-updated pictures that'll be corrected when they first list the phone as "in stock", or, heaven forbid, the true UNBRANDED phone that I covet so? Anyone order an AT&T phone from Negri before?
Here's to hoping it won't be branded!
Why not just get the AT&T version then replace the back cover with one that's not branded?

Are they only branded on the back? Last AT&T phone I bought had the logo and name on the front, and the logo again on the back.
Thanks for the idea though, I was about to drop an extra $50 for something I didn't need.
I suppose back covers will be easy enough to get soon anyways. :fingers-crossed:

The logo would probably come off with nail polish or Goo Gone. Either that or cover it with a case. I'd personally go with the one I could save the most money on. Just wait until Verizon comes out with theirs with the logo on the button .

Yeah... That kind of stuff just sickens me. Why do you have to go ruin a perfectly beautiful phone with your logo, when you had NOTHING to do with research/development/production/advertising/etc?
Yeah, I tried the whole penny scratch-off thing before, and it scratched the **** out of my glass... Don't ever want to try removing that stuff again.
I don't disagree with this at all, but it sounds like you never had an SIII where the branding was identical, just a small ATT globe logo on the back of the phone, nothing on the front.... you must have had one sharp penny to scratch the glass! Pennies are what everyone used to get them off the battery cover on the SIII, and while I don't care enough to spend time modifying that when I have a car dock to get working, I like saving the stock battery covers for resale in the end, so I'm leaving this one mint and getting a new one to ruin over time - my aftermarket SIII battery door is going in the trash and the stock one that had never been installed is going to the new owner when I sell it on eBay this week!

[HELP] Am i being scammed?

Need some advice XDA. (im from the UK)
im aware of the common scam of second hand contract binded phones sold on eBay and other marketplaces where after they have been sold a few month down the line there IMEI is blacklisted and blocked and there is nothing you can do about it.
Is this happening to me?
I bought a s7 edge from eBay (sealed box g935f)
It was described as being "no network logo's factory unlocked"
I received it, opened it and it booted with 3 (three) network logo and then when i got through set up it was filled with reinstalled 3 network Apps.
now as far as i know if a mobile is has this branded firmware it is binded to a contract... am i wrong?
i messaged the seller and he assured me it was not a contract phone but was purchased from 3 and he said being as its a unlocked phone he assumed it would not have any logo branding on the software and seeing as he did not open the box he couldn't be sure.
in the end i asked for a receipt.. he provided this delivery note (attatched file) (i have crossed out his address and imei in paint)
-yes that really is the original picture quality (god knows if he really is just taking the piss or eBay hosting is terrible)
after i questioned this delivery note and bad quality image he got very irate and simply asked me to return the device for a refund and began accusing me of being a scammer saying that he will get the police involved if i send back a different handset and try to pass it off as the one he sent
What do you think?
is he trying to scam me with a contract phone?
or is he being honest can a non contract phone be on a network branded firmware?
Resumen:
its not a Scam, make sure that it works and keep it.
the logo is because of the rom.
---------------------------------------------
Look, this will help you, Three and other companies have the option to sell unlocket or locket phones, but all of the phones, has the Three's ROM, the rom, make sure that the phone works, and u have data and all, its fine..

Who cares, flash BTU firmware and problem solved. In my country, a lot of people by phones they don't need on contract then resell them to make money. Nothing shady there. If the imei is clean, why worry?

In the UK people get a phone on contract with insurance sell them on ebay wait a month or 2 and then report it stolen . They get replacement phone and the guy who bought his old one gets a blacklisted IMEI and can't do anything about it

you should call three and ask them if the imei is binded, because you bought it.

Thanks anyway! I think I'm just gonna have to return it. I can't afford to risk it.
As far as I know 3 don't sell phones separate from a contract unless you pay more than what Samsung charge lol

Three branded ROM but apparently it is unlocked? Suspect. He could have flashed a Three ROM on there but why didn't he say this? Suspect. Typically three branded ROM will come from Three directly.
Take videos of the phone working/booting up. Take multiple pictures of the phone from all angles. Return it via special delivery, probably £6-8 but totally worth it for peace of mind. He won't be able to claim it not being delivered since it MUST be signed for. Special delivery will cover you for around £500 in compensation (Can be bought new from Amazon for around £475).
Hope it all goes well. If you can, buy from a reputable company next time.

Nowadays, phones from Three are sold unlocked, but still have some Three branding due to the CSC.

Yeah I didn't mean in the traditional sense that the phone is sim-locked, but that it is still branded somewhat, so it's more likely that it is an unwanted network upgrade from Three directly.
lol, what is this?
Its a smiley ...
