December 2017....I agree!
I just came from Sprint. We used to always get the updates first, but they too haven't received the update. So maybe next week VZW and SPR update. I mean I have 30 days to return everything and switch to T-Mobile and get Nougat, so...timer started I guess.
With what people are saying about lag and battery issues. Im not too interested yet. Of course i want it but I need it to work good.

I'm on the T-Mobile that was posted for our phones and battery is better then mm and not seeing lag....
Nougat is now out for sprint beta testers. Verizon is now the only carrier with no update
Week of March 20th is the current date.. Check my post history if you need verification of accuracy.
Been running the Nougat Beta. It's not so bad. Best improvement is the blue light filter. Went to the T-Mobile full update. Not really any better except for less bloatware. Overall i think the best overall update for this phone is either the I phone 7 plus or the Google Pixel XL. March 20th could happen, i say not until a while after the S8 is released.
Seriously though, the nougat beta 2 is not bad, it does have a few rough spots, but they really need to kick it into high gear and roll it out. I cant imagine they havent had enough time to quash the few bugs.
Verizon support I chatted with, just told me she found the update for me to download for my s7 Edge!!!

Never trust those people. You where misinformed. developer.android.com has nothing to do with oem firmware. That site is for core Android development only. It has nothing carrier specific. I say this because I have used that site a lot over the past few years. It is the basis for android development.

There is no way that is true. If for some crazy reason that is true, I would dump verizon immediately. But there is no way that is true.

Yeah Verizon Rep told me the same thing sadly my upgrade isn't till September
While paying my bill stuff today the regional manager at our corporate store was visiting and the employee asked him and he called corporate and they have no information about it. Hes aware about the other carriers have released it and something should at least be said.
Got rid of my Nexus 6P for this phone...man what a bad decision, should of just waited for the Pixel.

Depends what you're looking for in a phone. The s7 edge is better than the 6P in many ways. 6P definitely has the updates on it's side and the speakers.

I called and talked to a rep last week. He had no information either. I've been (im)patiently waiting since the day Google announced the phone. I was only a couple of days away from being able to upgrade, and had my mind set on a Note 4. I've been getting more frustrated every day, as one of my co-workers went and looked at the N6 at the freaking US Cellular store. US Cellular! They have it before Verizon... I'm concerned that Verizon is taking all of this time to lock the phone as tight as the Note 4, which is still un-rooted on VZW. I live in a small rural area where our ONLY coverage is VZW and USC.

Thank Samsung for that. I don't know why anyone thought differently given the Note 3 bounty is *still* outstanding. And with Android L's change wrt kernel and root...odds are it will never be rooted.
Vote with your wallet people. Don't give Samsung a dime for their Knox crapware.

Oh, I agree somewhat. Knox blows. Samsung Touchwiz is my least favorite. BUT, the Note 4 is rooted already for the other carriers in the USA, but even (last I checked) over $11000 worth of bounty for root access on the VZW version hasn't had any success. If that was because of Samsung, the Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T versions wouldn't already have root access. The Note 4 hardware is amazing, we just need the ability to put different software on it. I hate Verizon... I may switch to US Cellular someday. They historically haven't had flagship phones available until the last year or two. But, there still isn't much in the way of Dev support here for their phones. What good is a monster phone if we can't hack and crack a bit? LOL

Half the problem with dev support is the insistence that every USA carrier have a unique SKU and mutually incompatible firmware. Which leads to community dev fragmentation to the max. Which is squarely on the manufacturer to blame. Knox and the locked bootloaders are also on the manufacturer. With Samsung's mobile division bleeding oodles and gobs of money this year, maybe Samsung will mend their ways.
Samsung's problem is that they went from making 2-3 high quality handsets under one brand (Galaxy)....to making dozens of handsets each with 5+ different unique carrier/region-specific SKUs.
An announcement on the 31st on when Nexus 6? What that it can be pre ordered in March or something and maybe 1,000 available
There are two golden rules you should keep in mind when speaking to ANY type of VZW rep:
1 - they have absolutely no information on the phone, its release or anything else related to it - plain and simple.
2 - they have been instructed to try to keep you on VZW, so anything of a delaying comment that will keep you hanging on while the first rule is in effect works for them, not you.
The phone only has two SKU's - We're going to find that VZ will allow it on the network (because they have to) and they won't sell it.
I said it first, and time will bear it out. I hope I'm incorrect. the only thing that will indicate it is here on VZ is a press release or seeing it on the website by magic, period. Anything else is just pure speculation and wishing.

It is extremely unlikely at this point that Verizon will carry this phone in stores. That has been the speculation from the very beginning. Big Red will allow it on its network, but will never sell the device.

Winter is coming...
Be ready cuz its coming... The Motorola Droid Turbo 6! It will be full of bloat and skinned in the most obnoxious Motorola overlay. I'm sure it will have all the same specs with maybe a faster processor. It will have 5 different Verizon logos plastered all over it. Of course the bootloader will be locked and we will never see root!... God I love Verizon!
I just had a meditation session with my spiritual king. He let it be known to me that Verizon will release the Nexus 6 in... and then the session ended. I'll try again tomorrow.

Nexus 6 on Verizon
My Motorola bought Nexus 6 works great on Verizon, and with Moto Credit im paying just like you would if you used the "edge" program from VZW... Oh and i didnt have to give Verizon any cut of the sales which is just icing on the cake!
Why wait? Buy one from another carrier, swap Sims.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
We probably wont see any Nexus 6 in stores at all. Nobody has the Nexus 6 locally on any carrier cause its sold out.(I've checked, XMas present.) If Verizon wanted the sales they would have already done it.
When i went into Verizon to get a nano sim for my N6 they didn't even know wtf it is. They're like oh that's not going to work on our network... I had to walk them through what to do to get my device working.
According to Pocket-Lint, Android 6.0 update is set to land on the Note 4 next month.
Of course.... who knows when VZW will acquiesce. Can't wait to move up from KK to a decents OS. :good:
Knowing Verizon they will be the last ones to release it. I'm betting we don't see it until at least April or may.
I doubt it will land on our devices in February. The international Note 4 will be getting it in February however.

Let's hope something comes up and delays it for the Note 5 and the GS6. LOL
I'm not going to hold my breath.
Me neither. They just released 5.1.1. It'll be months and months before they can be bothered to release marshmallow.

I still don't even have 5.1.1 and yet it was officially released from Verizon. I'm heavily considering going to a Nexus 6P or waiting to see what the next Nexus phone is in 2016. I love my Note, and will seriously miss the S Pen and note taking capability but I really hate how much unnecessary control Verizon has over the phone I own.
Samsung has delayed their Marshmallow upgrades by two months. Woohoo! I'm assuming the update will roll out the week after my last Edge payment when I switch phones. :eyeroll:
Then again, maybe that is a blessing. Usually the last update they give to a device is the one where they royally screw up the software to the point that you want a new phone anyhow.

I got the Note 4 for the large screen and the S Pen. It was only after using it a few times, I realized that my handwriting is terrible, I have no artistic talents at all, and the S Pen makes each of these more apparent. I haven't removed it from it's little home inside the phone since. The large screen is nice, though my screen has all sorts of quality control issues.
I too would like my next phone to NOT be tied to Verizon. I was fortunate in that I was able to get back to 4.4.4 when I realized what a train wreck 5.01 was, but it annoys me to no end that they let people sit with that on their phones for six month while trying to blame user habits for all of the issues with battery life and crashing. Total scumbag corporation move. I would leave Verizon if I could, but they're the only game in town here. Just the other day, I was explaining to my wife that my main reason for not liking this phone is that I've had it for a year and three months, and there hasn't been a useful update to it. The only updates for it have been awful.
My contract is up in October, and I'll be looking at Nexus and whatever they have at that point. Either that, or some other phone that will allow some control over what's on it.
I haven't attempted to update yet. I'm still on 4.4.4. I'm not going to update until I'm 100% sure that my phone will end up on 5.1.1. Even better if a safe upgrade path is created at some point.
I've upgraded to 5.1.1 and have not had any issues whatsoever. One thing I do though is perform a full factory reset after a major upgrade. Never had issues by doing this. I make sure my important stuff is backed up to SD card or Google drive. All apps auto install when prompted.

You might have answered this with saying Verizon is the only game in town but have you looked into Project Fi? It runs on Nexus devices and uses Sprint/TMo, I get a pretty nice employee plan with Verizon currently or I would gladly make the switch to Fi, a lot of friends back home in Michigan have and they say the service is awesome.
Still no 5.1.1 btw lol

I'm not sure if that's available where I am. I'd have to look in to it. I too get a decent discount on Verizon through my employer, and I'm stuck on this phone until the end of October. After that, I'll do my usual looking at all of the options, to find the best one. Unfortunately, cell phone providers aren't that good where I live. None of them are as good as Verizon was when I lived in the Chicago area a few years back.
Last night after talking to Verizon tech support again about not having the 5.1.1 update, I factory reset my phone after backing it up, and once I had it restored I checked for the update, it was there. In case anyone still wants it that doesn't have it, give that a try. Samsung Kies worked well for my backup/restore.
Bad news for you guys in the US, seems like Verizon has taken control of updates for their handsets and those purchased in Best buy. Poor show from Google but it was probably the only way they could sign up with a major carrier over there. Google is doing security updates however.

This is the exact reason I ordered the Verizon version. I wanted to ensure I got Wifi calling, HD voice and visual voicemail.
A few sites have already confirmed that there is minimal bloatware that can be uninstalled. Although it might take a little longer for updates it cant be worse than AT&T that I have currently.
It will have to have WiFi calling since they run projectFi.

I too pre-ordered the Verizon variant. Google wont allow Verizon to hang onto the updates very long anyways which I don't even care about. I am just concerned with the Verizon HD voice and Wifi calling. I also don't care that the bootloader is locked. Custom roms are buggy as hell (I know I'm on one now on my G3) and they usually break important features. I also get a free daydream VR headset which cosys $100 and the Google Store purchasers don't get anything free! Haha

T-Mobile and Verizon sims. You don't have to buy it from Verizon for this feature. Also project Fi uses it as well.
I don't think or should i say hope that there will not be that much of a delay , maybe a one to two week delay if that. I would say that google might delay the official non beta release to time more with Verizon to make it seem like they are pushing them out faster at lease for the first major update. I honestly cant see it taking that long for Verizon to test reliability on the network. since the phone will still be mostly pure android there isn't much else for Verizon to get there paws on to mess with besides the 3 apps they have on there. a few weeks will still be better then any other android out there , I think the fastest ive seen a device besides a nexus get the current android version was around 3 months or longer so anything has to be better then that lol
This could be hopeful thinking cause i ordered through Verizon

Verizon has a bad record of not delivering as promised. They also don't respect pure Android and will surely bog it down with all of their crap software. They also will take their sweet time with updates as they do with every other device, even when the manufacturer said they will be timely. All companies except apple get burnt with Verizon. Big Red could care less about what their customers want. As long as you are using their service, they got you. And with the Verizon Pixel, you have no other options. I hope I am wrong, but it's Verizon we are talking about.

I can't understand why people always say the Verizon is bad at pushing updates. For at least the last 3 years they are the first of all major U.S. carriers to push updates to LG and Samsung. Don't know about HTC as I've never owned one but my LG G2, G3 and G4 all got their updates before any of the other carriers and the same with my Note 7 for the 2 small updates it did receive. Verizon will handle the Pixel's updates just fine. They always did with all the latest flagships for years now. I think people just have an advanced hatred for Verizon for god knows what reason but I've tried every major U.S. carrier and Verizon is hands down the best. The limited data crap sucks but now it's technically unlimited but throttled after you blow through the amout you pay for. I'm more than happy to get my Pixel XL through Verizon. They always deliver and never ask questions if I have a faulty device.
Will AT&T turn off the phones in time if you do not return it? Maybe a couple months or ? I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
Thinking of my options and if I can hold off until the S8 release. BTW, I don't fly commercially, but they could cripple the phone so bad it could be pretty useless.

In just got a text from ATT saying that on Oct 15, all Note 7's will officially be banned on all flights by the FAA.
As for a shut down, its possible, but not confirmed. If it happens though, it'll most likely be a few months down the road. Enough time for people to find replacement phones. I wouldn't be surprised if it was soon after the S8 launch.

When it comes to installments, legally it may be smarter for them not to charge people, because then the 'loan' may be subject to lemon law or something similar, but that's over my pay grade.
For those worried about being shut down, just look at the Quickfire. That phone was recalled and people still have them on the network (probably only 2 or 3 after all this time). Point being, they can't just shut em off unless they can prove it's harmful to the network. While the note can seriously damage itself and possibly your leg, a defective battery can't hurt the network so we should be safe.
As silly as it is, I just can't bring myself to return it.. I've switched back to my 7 edge because work doesn't want us using Note 7's, but I'd like to keep it just on the off chance theres any new info. Definitely not paying $900 for a marshmallow device without updates though.

They've already started. My ver 1 note 7 has its imei magically blocked and I had my imei guys to get on it and there was nothing they could do. Only way is imei swap. Took me over an month to get someone natively American on the phone at Samsung to take my exchange instead of just hanging up like an idiot. I got mine from Craigslist.
So att is blocking imei?
I'm on my note 5..but my note 7 still works
RorySam said:
They will block all imei's till the end of this month as I know, even if you try to unlock phone via code they won't provide it officially, I managed to request a code for unlock on this page for 30$ facebook.com/gsmserviceremote , it took 1 day and code worked

If you have yours from Craigslist, don't you think it's more plausible that whoever sold you the phone, may have ripped you off one way or another?
AT&T already stated you can use your note 7 until December 31st. Samsung plans to give everyone a free upgrade to the s8 for all of our troubles if you turned your note 7 in for another galaxy device.

That's for South Korea only, no upgrade program here so don't hold your breath on that. Also at&t reps rarely know much more than us I don't believe that they're going to kill all devices after the new year.

So far I haven't heard of an official final date.. as a matter of fact, I received an email today from AT&T about me turning my Note 7 in, and it stated they urged me to turn it off and bring it back, but there was no date involved or anything.

Me too
Anyone else tired of waiting. PLN beta is soooooo bad. Everyday I think about going back to 6.0.1 but I get so lazy lol. Nougat couldn't come soon enough. My phone freezes multiple times a day this last 7.0 beta is so terrible. Hurry up Sammy
Came here to post this exact thing. This wait is ridiculous.
Bull **** how long we are having to wait! Lol
waiting for this update to try the s7 edge.. In the meantime, enjoying the LG V20
We buy these phones to have a premium experience and they already rolled out N to entry level and mid level devices...Samsung won't ever learn. These phones are the slowest for updates. Ever since the S4.

Me too. You've got to wonder though how effed up the nougat final release is going to be if they can't get the beta right. Based on beta feedback here, I'm not hopeful.

Indeed! I've been using the high end Galaxy phones and tablets since the early days, and they've consistently screwed us on updates. One thing we can count on is that Samsung will give us the updates last, if we get them at all.
Yeah I'm not sure I'm going to get th s8, although sprint has me on the galaxy forever plan, I can get a new one every year and trade in my current one. I was really banking on google bringing the pixel to all carriers but these butt heads went Verizon only or buy unlocked. Maybe the next pixel phone will find its way on all carriers so we can lease it.
Apparalently the next Pixel may have waterproofing, but no edge. But tempting becuase of how bad Samsung is with keeping their devices up to date.

I'm not sure. I was on T-Mobile, sprint had a switch to sprint and we cut your bill in half promotion. So they cut my bill in half, took my note 5's and gave my wife and I both new s7 edge phones on the galaxy forever plan. I don't think we pay anything for it. If I did, I'm not seeing it on my bill because I was paying around 230 with TMobile now with sprint I'm paying about 135 lol.

Interesting. Maybe I got grandfathered in. That article is July 2016 I got my phone's in march 2016 and it's still on my account for the s7 edges we have. I'm eligible for the s8 when it drops.

I'm done with Samsung after this, didn't even want this phone to begin with, got it because of the note 7 recall, and I've hated it since day one. Leave it to s**tsung to make a good phone you can do nothing with, And this wait for an official update is a f***ing nightmare. I thought I'd be happy getting rid of my G3, but I've never missed it more. Should have known not to trust Samsung again, but this will be the last time I make this mistake. Really tempted to sell this pos and just get a pixel.

Hey bud. I called sprint and verified. I'm still eligible to get the newest Samsung every year with no fees..Each phone has to hit the year mark. Literally just got off the phone.

I'm leaning same boat man. I'm not certain I'll get the s8 plus or another Sammy device. This s7 edge has left a bad taste in my mouth. But I dang sure won't buy an iPhone. I need sprint to come out with more Android selection
It's not samsung at all, blame sprint. They suck for updates, samsung does it's job, we would have it (nougat) but fing sprint.

Nothing for Tmobile for an update yet. Last we know it went into testing mode 2 weeks ago. Sprint was suppose to roll and update this month for LTE 3 carrier aggression. Who knows when we will get updated now. T-Mobile S7 users on Marshmallow are still on November security patch.

It's all Samsung. Not Sprint. Even the G935U (Unlocked US) have not received the update. Samsung hates Americans, LOL! But really, I don't understand how Apple and Google can update the entire world on the same day and Samsung can't. Even their sorry excuse for voice (S Voice) or Cloud (Samsung non-existent cloud that can't be accessed through an internet site, only your phone....so **** if something happens to your phone...) is disheartening. I miss my Note7. It was running Marshmallow. I would just be happy if Samsung brought the UX to the S7. Same processors, same ram....should've pushed a Touchwiz update a long time ago. But they have our money and they really don't care about the US. We are a speck of their Asian customers with their billions in population. Plus, the FTC has to approve **** here left and right, and then the carrier bull****. They have to make a different update for each carrier and their bloatware. If only I could get the Honor 8 or P9 to work on Sprint, but their network is ****. Maybe the Verizon unlimited plan is exactly what I need.
