I'm sorry Guy's, but I have to go for a monthly, but thread is open for your comment and solution!
There is an internal ribbon cable that connects the USB port to the motherboard.
I believe this internal cable needs to be replaced if trying different computers, USB cables, and USB 2.0 ports doesn't solve the problem.
I fix my phone problem, a repairman change my micro USB socket.

-you should try using another usb cable
-Do not turn on firewall on your computer
-try to update drivers
In most cases when a system loses a usb connection, once a successful one has been made, then it drops this is usually down to a power issue.
This could be down to a bad cable, or a loose wire in the cable or phone.
Try another usb port, or make sure you dont have many devices connected to you system via usb.
In most cases the more devices you have connected via usb the power it is taking possibly away from other usb ports that require that extra power.
Hello everyone, this is my first post and it´s about my Defy, which, for some reason, the USB port does not work to access the phone and/or the SD Card.
1: I did a soft and hard reset and the problem persists.
2: The phone does not show up on the device manager under Windows so not even an error message saying "Device not recognized" or something. Also, it won´t show up in Ubuntu.
3. The "Connect your charger" message shows up all the time.
4. No notification in the phone when plugged to the PC .
5. Even though I can´t access the phone from the PC, I still can´t charge it through the USB port.
6. I can connect/access the phone and SD Card using Wi-Fi (Motorola Phone Portal) but not USB. I can see "Plug in USB to launch" in Phone Portal but cannot press the button, only the one referring to Wi-Fi.
PS: This is my second Defy, the first one got the same problem so I got a new one... sadly, the it happened again.
PS2: I wonder if a USB 3.0 port has to do with anything? It´s the only thing that I noticed before the USB stopped working.
Any help or hint is greatly appreciated.
well, i don't think it's an usb3 problem ...
to be sure you could try to connect your phone with an older usb2 port computer ...
is the phone charging on wall charger and usb-cable ???
if not, it really sounds like a hardware failure ... then i would send it to customer service and tell them that there is the same problem again .. maybe the just repaired something and it's faulty again ... be sure, that they are changing the faulty things ...
if your phone is charging on wall charger, it could be that it is an problem with your pc ... try another one ...

1. I mentioned the USB 3.0 port because it was the only common thing just before the usb conection stopped working.
2. The phone charges normally using the wall charger or usb (2.0, 3.0) cable through the PC.
3. It does not matter what PC is connected to or the OS (Ubuntu, Win7)/
Thanks for the response!
It is possible to brick it. Wtih some phone's it seems to be a common error for usb ports to be blown.
Could also be the cable... My cable that came with the defy was already snatched after a few months. My screen started going on and of when I was charging it.

Is there a way to check for faulty hardware-related issues?
just test different cables, computers or even mobiles ... then you will see, what is faulty

What I meant was some software that check or even some kind of physical device.
Anyway, I know it´s not the cable or PC faulty but the phone itself. But I want to confirm if it´s software or hardware related and if there´s a fix.
Thanks!
Try using USB with logcat open. You might see something in the log that will tell you what's happening

Hi. Last month I forgot my charger somewhere and I endded up using another one that didn´t work fine.
my problem is that the usb conector only work for charging (turbo charging work too) but not when I try to connect it in my pc.
I already use different cables so I think I should change the usb port, but it could be something else? maybe the board is broken?

If you tried to connect your USB cable directly to the back ports of your PC, i mean, the motherboard USB ports (not the front ones), and tried in differents PC's too, looks like your charging port has been damaged.
Something exactly as you described happened to me in the Nexus 5, but in that case, just had to change a flex cable that contained the charging port.
Anyway, it's a very cheap part, and it's pretty common that the welding of the USB port get broken. You will have to send your device to a mobile repairs shop, or change the charging port by yourself (only if you have some knowledge using welding stations).
I recommend the first option because it's the most common break on a phone, and these guys in the shop must be very accustomed to repair this (it's not very expensive either).
try any other phone's data cable! :?
I've tried another cable and my computer connects but says the file is empty. I tried my old phone and I can see files. So I think there must be a setting on my Moto 4 that I need to change. When I drag the status line down I don't see USB or connect to camera.

Hmm, when you pull the notification shade down, do you see a notification about 'USB Charging this device' when your device is connected? If so, then what happens when you tap that notification - do you see a pop-up like in the linked screenshot? If so, tap the Transfer Files option in that pop-up and your device should re-connect and show the internal storage of your device.
If your device is in USB charging mode, it seems normal to not show files (as a security measure?).
Whenever I try to hook up the Zenfone 5 with my PC, I get the "unknown device" error, and Device Manager shows me the error on the topic: "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
I've tried just about anything, and nothing seems to solve it... Shut down/restart the PC, try a different USB port, remove power supply, etc...
Ah yeah, phone has access to bootloader and TWRP, but even in these modes I get this error when trying to connect via USB. Already tried different cables and different computers.

that's sad... here I could test both my USB ports and cables with 2 other phones: they're all working nicely. So now I don't know if my problem is the USB connector or the whole south board. I did try changing it with another ZF5 I have around here, and it worked (and suddenly, that other ZF5 isn't being recognized anymore)...
Hey!
I can't connect my X Compact to computers.
I have tried different computers, cables and I've changed my phones USB port also. Still not working.
Is the motherboard dead? Should I try another port?
I could live with it, but I'd like to install Xposed. Would be safer to have a connection with the device just in case.
Thank you!

If there's no response at all from multiple different computers, seems like some kind of hardware damage - maybe just broken USB port... A phone fix-it shop should be able to fix it if you want.
Unfortunately as I said, I already changed the port once.
Should I change it again or could it be in the motherboard?
I didn't flash it after the port change.
