I have no idea what happened because it was in my purse and I didn't see it do anything so I'm not sure if it shut down first, if it froze, if it displayed any errors, etc. I just went to use it and it was black and not responding. I had someone try to call it and it rings as if the phone is still on. It won't respond to the power button, plugging it in, nothing.
I haven't recently updated or made any changes to it. I used it for my alarm like normal this morning and it was working fine and then boom.
Any thoughts?

Hi... Have you tried to hold the power button for at least 10 seconds? It should "normally" power the phone off. Then try to power it on normally.
If the above doesn't work, do you have adb debugging enabled? If yes, try to plug your phone to your computer and type:
adb reboot.

Try holding just the power button down for a longer period. There are instances where devices have taken upwards of a minute before rebooting.

Glad it worked out for you. I think mine has done that once or twice. I try to reboot the phone at least every other to clear things out. You may also want to wipe your cache/dalvik if it's been while.

1. have you tried "power button" ?
2. have you charged the phone ?
on a bright side, you are the 1st one !
Maybe your battery is loose? Not to mention that bricking a
phone is usually due to screwing up a software flash. So, is brick really the right word?

If you are stuck on the phone to PC screen, you are NOT bricked. During development, I ended up getting into this state a couple times myself. You can still get into download mode in the same fashion.
Connect your phone to USB so you get the phone->PC screen. Press and hold both volume up/down. Then press and also hold Home. Then start pressing and holding power for 2 seconds. After 2 seconds, let go of power. Continue holding volume up, volume down, and home, until you get into download mode.

no, a completely blank screen.
no icon, no GUI, no nothing (
Yeah, weird...I just flashed back to US firmware and now my phone is totally unresponsive to everything. Keep in mind I've flashed back and forth several times...even once thought my phone was bricked because the power button wouldn't even turn the screen on. But after holding the correct buttons it finally booted into download mode. I was even using my phone earlier just fine, and having it run quadrant test of 1700, but as soon as I flashed back to 100% stock US firmware, my phone now no longer boots. Go figure lol.
Though this time I think it has bit the dust for real, lol. So be weary of flashing back to US firmware if you are flashing a lot of different other firmwares. Cuz I think something happens and the key combinations get deleted so it refuses to boot into any mode.

I"m at the phone to pc screen..but the Home button is not a "button" it's a touch sensitive button on my vibrant and it won't go into download mode...
I got here because i flashed the custom kernel to put the market and data on a ext4 partition...and it reversed my volume buttons and reversed the routing of sound..headphone speaker..that stuff....so i couldn't hear anything...so when i went to reflash stock t-mobile firmware it told me not to unplug for like hours..it wasn't doing anything.....i took the battery out and now i'm stuck at phone to pc...i think i might just use the warranty..seeing as u can't do a think with it...atleast i can't that is..i feel like a moron...

I hold volume up and down..then hold home with those..then power for 2 seconds..let go and nothing...it doesn't recognize i'm holding the home because it's a software based button..the home key that is..and with no software...no button...so i'm afraid this screen means bricked...adb reboot download won't work either...i'm gunna get it exchanged in the morning..under buyers remorse..

Looks like a hardware issue, and to fix that you'll probably need to change the physical button.
To power the phone on, just connect it to the charger, it will start.
I too have the same problem, just started around this thread's start date too.
Oh yeah, and connecting it to the charger doesn't work, and the only way I can get any life out of it is to pop the battery out, put it back in, but even then it only goes to the "SAMSUNG" logo screen and then blacks out again.
I feel like it may be the power button itself, because I managed to turn it on when I pressed the button fairly hard, so maybe the button is pressed in and stuck to some extent?

Then it's not the hw button itself, I stand corrected. Looks more like a soft/firmware issue, considering the power adapter doesn't power up the phone.

So I was using my N7 as normal last night, starting up Kodi (Previously XBMC) to watch some shows before I went to bed, and as Kodi was starting, my tablet froze. I let it sit there for a good 10 minutes, nothing happened, so I proceeded to hold the power button down to force it to reboot, it turned off, and now it seems to be off forever..
It is showing up in my device manager as APX. I've tried all the tricks of holding down the power button + volume button to get into the bootloader, and it just won't give in. It is rooted, and it's been that way for a long time..
Is there maybe something that I missed in my research? It seems that there are two results; those who can hold down the power and volume and get into bootloader and go from there, and those who never revive the N7.
What are your thoughts?

Mine did this...Stuck at the Google Boot Logo and when I rebooted all i got was APX mode. Unfortunately for me the only way I got it fixed was to buy a Nexus 7 from Ebay with a broken screen for parts. Then I removed the motherboard from the broken one and replaced my bad motherboard with the good one. I tried everything before going this route.
Just an update:
I never was able to revive the old girl. Tried just about everything short of reflowing the board.
I found a logic board on ebay for pretty cheap and dropped it in, it works great and now I have more space! I used to have a 16, now it's a 32.
Also, I put Cyanogenmod on it, and I love it. Much more responsive than it used to be.
-Seth
Another update, she's still going strong, so it wasn't any other failures, only something on the motherboard.

M,
connect your tab to your pc and run
adb reboot recovery
if that works, ONLY perform a wipe cache function
and then reboot
There are numerous tutorials on XDA for setting up adb.
It is possible to render your device inoperable by having too many background processe running.
if you can get it rebooted consider removing some of the more "expensive" apps or find an auto start auto run killer that works for you.

I've seen a few people with this problem for the Tab S. From what I heard it caused by the Tab being locked up and not being able to turn on or boot even with full charged battery.
So the two options/solutions I have seen are
1.wait a week or two until it drains and press power or charge it after that time and see if it does something(may not always work since it takes ages in this case)
2. Take apart the Tab and unplug and plug back in the battery connector (very dangerous if you don't know what your doing)
3. Take it to samsung and say you were updating through kies and it did this
Just don't charge it as I am hoping the Tab needs the battery drained.

Hello guys. So after one year of using the LG V20 H910, it's now completely unresponsive. Today, I plugged it to my amp to listen to some music. At some point, the screen froze, but the music (spotify) kept playing for a while. I left it as is, in case it unfroze by itself. After about 30 seconds, the music stopped too, so I removed the battery. When I put it back in and tried powering on the phone, nothing happened. No boot screen, no vibration, nothing. Connecting it to the charger did nothing too. But the phone became a little warm after letting it 5 minutes plugged in. I was running Alpha Omega Rom 1.1.7 (Android 8.0), with root. Any ideas on how I should proceed? Do you think it's completely unrecoverable? I was really enjoying using it.

It might be, but I cannot test that. If only the screen was dead, when pressing the power button and waiting, at some point it should boot up. If you then try to access the power menu, there is haptic feedback. I have tried this, and cannot confirm that the phone is booting, and that just the screen is showing nothing. Regarding any other bad connections, I think it's unlikely, as it hasn't been dropped for over 6 months now, and the day it died was just like the previous ones. I don't have any knowledge on how to troubleshoot such a complicated system for bad connections.
