Just to clarify it is possible to put your S7 to PD8 and technically "downgrade" your firmware . So to go from PG1 to PD8 you just need to flash the PD8 bootloader,AP, and CP in Odin.
*Doing this will wipe all your user data*
As far as I know this only works on SM-G930T !!!!
Please try it out and see if it works on your device.
EDIT: I got a video showcasing the whole process, it's a bit lengthy because i wanted to avoid all cuts in the video due the the suspicion that i may be switching devices ...

Well this same thing has been said numerous times before, so do you have proof that it successfully works and also are able to flash other firmware?
As the other user said, if you have proof and can demonstrate how you were able to downgrade, please share with us. As far as I've seen/attempted, this isn't possible because of the bootloader version increment between the new firmware and the older ones.

Have you done this yourself?
AFAIK, downgrading the bootloader isn't possible, as we have already seen in this thread. Please let us know how you were able to accomplish this. Screenshots would be greatly appreciated.

I have done this and will provide screenshots.
Please disregard the G935 version ... I am also running Echoe Rom ... I flashed PG1 Cp,Bl, and Ap . I set it up then I flashed PD8 Cp,Bl and Ap with Odin again ... it was successful no errors. Just to make sure I tried also flashing PB8 but that didn't not work and gave me an error. So I reflashed PD8 and installed Echoe Rom and that is currently where my phone stands. please try it out I need to confirm it works on other devices. I think it works because the PG1 bl is the same version as the PD8 bl. But I can't confirm this. If you tried leave your feedback!

What is the benefit of downgrading to PD8? Can we flash the 930U firmware after this or it still keeps our bootloader on version 2?

I don't know own which variant the 930U is but There isn't really a benefit besides people saying that PD8 runs better than PG1 or vice versa.
Hello,
It's been a long time since I've been these to these forums and an even much longer time since I last had to modify any kind of software on a phone. I recently upgraded to an S7 edge on Sprint and would like to know where to find the tools, roms, and files needed to go to the unlocked firmware version for the S7 edge and go back to Sprint's stock firmware if need be.
More importantly, I'd like to know what risks I encounter especially with Samsung's KNOX. Again, it's been a while so please don't flame.
Any information or direction is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

There's not much for roms echoe is pretty nice. It lags pretty hard but theirs a fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s7/how-to/guide-to-fix-s7-lag-root-s7-variants-t3441715
As far as firmware your somewhat limited as well depending on your current firmware you may only have the latest 935p and 935U to choose from.
P.s you don't have to worry about tripping Knox I've flashed xposed govtuner viper modified Odin tars that failed miserably I'm still 0x0
Thanks for getting back to me vegoja. So as far as flashing the firmware, where can I get the necessary files? I've seen some threads mentioning or linking the ROMs so I think I'm okay there. Also, I think I'm supposed to use a special version of Odin, not sure why. Lastly, where do I get all those other necessary files like the CSC etc.?
Thanks.

Once you flash the U firmware, you can't currently go back to sprint's firmware. Something to do with the upgraded bootloader. But the U firmware is stable and smooth and has good battery performance. You can enable hotspot to without root which is a perk.
Odin: http://d-h.st/gsDA
935U PI3: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzXeLw4AsxZHZlM1OTJZYXBOQW8/view
Flash AP, BL, CP and CSC (not Home_CSC).

Hi nghia0423 and Soooperstar,
Thanks for getting back to me. So to make sure I have this correct...I can flash a 935U firmware on my phone and go back to Sprint stock firmware, but it has to be PJ2.
If this is the case, then I have a few additional questions if you don't mind. First, do the AP, BL, CSC, and CP files differ between firmware versions? If so, where do I get those files for each version?
Second, if I go back to Sprint stock firmware PJ2 (which I assume is located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...rmware-g935p-pe1-official-sprint-6-0-t3414654), will I then be able to follow the standard firmware upgrade path by allowing system updates and going through the standard update process?
Lastly, is there some risk I'm missing or haven't addressed? If I go to unlocked firmware I want to make sure I can always go back to the current Sprint stock firmware.
Thank you again for all the help and information!

Both pathways - 935P firmware & 935U firmware - offer updates via OTA. They're both official Samsung pathways. As of right now, the 935P pathway offers more frequent updates (monthly) opposed to 935U's mostly every other month update cycle.
The most current firmwares on the 935P & 935U pathways are on the same bootloader version. Therefore, one can flash back and forth with no issues. I recently came to PJ2 935P from PI3 935U so I could download the Nougat beta.
The benefit of the 935U firmware is the lack of bloatware which leads to higher performance, smoother UI, better battery life, and easy to add Hotspot functionality.

Hi optimummind,
Thanks for letting me know that I can flash back and forth between Sprint's firmware and the official unlocked firmware. I did have additional questions. Are teh AP, BL, CSC, and CP files different for each firmware version? Where do I get them?
Thanks!
Use Odin3_v3.12_PrinceComsy to flash:
G930UUEU4BQD2_G930UOYM4BQD2_TMB.zip
I definitely flashed this and Rooted it and it is way smoother than the official T-mobile Nougat. I tried to downgrade back to MM but, it wouldn't work so, this solved my problems with performance. Also, root breaks fingerprint reader.
What's this from? The latest T-Mobile is QC1. Thanks.

It works as long as you make sure you download the USC version so that you can get the metro pcs apn by default
I just purchased the S7 T version.
Do I need to flash the Tmobile modem afterward to have 4x4mimo,256qam, radio,VOLTE, etc working just like other post mentioned when they flashed the MM version or just by flashing all the files provided will do the trick.
If I do need to reflash modem files, Do I use the same MM version modem files for this also.. Where can I get it if not. Thanks all.
i used the modded ramsy odin to get 950u1 but since samsung is raping us i need to go back to the vzw firmware...so should i just flash it with the modded odin or do i need to flash it with the original odin?
using the regular odin bricked my phone! but luckily i was able to use the prince ramsy odin and flash the g950u firmware...i think i should be ok now... hopefully samsung doesnt brick my phone with the update!

I'm not sure you know what a "brick" is. You wouldn't be flashing anything after a brick.
How could Samsung possibly be "raping" you in a way that Verizon isn't?!
I use PrinceComsy Odin and never had a single issue going back and forth between U and U1 firmwares.

It was definitely a soft-brick from the regular odin, but the prince comsy odin fixed it with a dirty flash. I use tmobile, but my phone is verizon branded. Samsung is raping us with the bootloader update that bricks phones that aren't using the firmware they came with.
joe3681 said:
Wow. I'm not sure where you pulled that from but it's not going to brick your phone. After the update you won't be allowed to flash firmware from a different region. You can't flash G950W on a G950U. You probably can't flash XAA U1 firmware on a U but you SHOULD be able to still flash ATT U1 firmware on an at&t U for example. It's simply locking your firmware into the region.

Just FYI, it appears with the new Blv3 firmwares, the device will only accept official firmware. Meaning, no more flashing U1 firmware on the carrier models, or vice versa. No more flashing U or U1 firmware to the Canadian W models. Flashing between carrier firmwares is fine as long as it's on a carrier branded device (running TMB on a VZW device, etc). But running 950U firmware on a 950U1 will result in a brick, that is this far unrecoverable.
If your currently are running U1 firmware on a U device, vice versa, or running W firmware on a U or U1 device, or vice versa, you need to flash back to the firmware version that shipped with your device BEFORE you accept any OTAs that take you up to Blv3. That would include all the January updates.
This has been tested and confirmed.

I corrected it after reading more. It still won't brick your phone.

You will if/when you get updated to Blv3
If you attempt to flash after the update yes. The update itself won't brick.
It doesn't fully make sense as when you flash with Odin your phone identifies as what you've flashed. I could see being stuck on that firmware, (Say U1 on a U) an a not being able to go back to a carrier firmware.

Comsy's Odin does an exploit with the bootloader to be able to flash alternative firmwares. The new update will fix that exploit and if your phone has firmware that it didn't originally ship with and you update, it WILL be bricked.
Hello,
I flashed my factory unlocked Samsung Galaxy S8 with the Verizon carrier firmware awhile back in order to gain some carrier features. Since then I have gotten a new device and want to flash my S8 back to the unlocked firmware. Flashing to the Verizon firmware was uneventful, but trying to flash it back to the factory unlocked XAA U1 firmware always results in a SHA256 Invalid error right after I click Start in Odin. I've tried the Prince Comsy version as suggested on a few threads, but it just gives a failed to write error. I have also tried another firmware version download (from Updato), different versions of Odin, and different PCs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Anyone?
Still haven’t been able to find a fix for this. Tried with a patched version of Odin to bypass the SHA256 check, but it’s giving me a different error. I’ve attached photos of the exact error messages below. Surely someone here knows something about this?
download latest firmware
its maybe because you are flashing old file with v1 bootloader

Well, you were pretty close. For anyone who is interested, the issue I’ve discovered is that the current Verizon firmware has bootloader v4 on it, and the latest U1 firmware only goes up to bootloader v3. Looks like I’ll just have to wait it out.

Yes, I was getting that error because the unlocked firmware I was trying to flash had an older boot loader than the Verizon firmware that was on the phone. Had to wait until an updated version of the unlocked firmware was uploaded.

I don’t quite remember, I sold that phone soon afterwards. It has something to do with the name of the firmware, I’m sure Google could help you there.
