Hello,
It's been a long time since I've been these to these forums and an even much longer time since I last had to modify any kind of software on a phone. I recently upgraded to an S7 edge on Sprint and would like to know where to find the tools, roms, and files needed to go to the unlocked firmware version for the S7 edge and go back to Sprint's stock firmware if need be.
More importantly, I'd like to know what risks I encounter especially with Samsung's KNOX. Again, it's been a while so please don't flame.
Any information or direction is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

There's not much for roms echoe is pretty nice. It lags pretty hard but theirs a fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s7/how-to/guide-to-fix-s7-lag-root-s7-variants-t3441715
As far as firmware your somewhat limited as well depending on your current firmware you may only have the latest 935p and 935U to choose from.
P.s you don't have to worry about tripping Knox I've flashed xposed govtuner viper modified Odin tars that failed miserably I'm still 0x0
Thanks for getting back to me vegoja. So as far as flashing the firmware, where can I get the necessary files? I've seen some threads mentioning or linking the ROMs so I think I'm okay there. Also, I think I'm supposed to use a special version of Odin, not sure why. Lastly, where do I get all those other necessary files like the CSC etc.?
Thanks.

Once you flash the U firmware, you can't currently go back to sprint's firmware. Something to do with the upgraded bootloader. But the U firmware is stable and smooth and has good battery performance. You can enable hotspot to without root which is a perk.

Hi nghia0423 and Soooperstar,
Thanks for getting back to me. So to make sure I have this correct...I can flash a 935U firmware on my phone and go back to Sprint stock firmware, but it has to be PJ2.
If this is the case, then I have a few additional questions if you don't mind. First, do the AP, BL, CSC, and CP files differ between firmware versions? If so, where do I get those files for each version?
Second, if I go back to Sprint stock firmware PJ2 (which I assume is located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...rmware-g935p-pe1-official-sprint-6-0-t3414654), will I then be able to follow the standard firmware upgrade path by allowing system updates and going through the standard update process?
Lastly, is there some risk I'm missing or haven't addressed? If I go to unlocked firmware I want to make sure I can always go back to the current Sprint stock firmware.
Thank you again for all the help and information!

Both pathways - 935P firmware & 935U firmware - offer updates via OTA. They're both official Samsung pathways. As of right now, the 935P pathway offers more frequent updates (monthly) opposed to 935U's mostly every other month update cycle.
The most current firmwares on the 935P & 935U pathways are on the same bootloader version. Therefore, one can flash back and forth with no issues. I recently came to PJ2 935P from PI3 935U so I could download the Nougat beta.
The benefit of the 935U firmware is the lack of bloatware which leads to higher performance, smoother UI, better battery life, and easy to add Hotspot functionality.

Hi optimummind,
Thanks for letting me know that I can flash back and forth between Sprint's firmware and the official unlocked firmware. I did have additional questions. Are teh AP, BL, CSC, and CP files different for each firmware version? Where do I get them?
Thanks!

I have left my phones stock for a while now, so I might be outdated and to be honest, I don't want to take any risks.
I have a SGS4, SGH-1337M, and I would like to install the latest stock firmware that does not have any of the carrier garbage. I checked out sammobile.com for some firmwares, but they all seem to be locked down with the bloatware and useless stuff carriers like to include.
So my first question, are there any stock firmwares for my phone that are free of everything you don't want on a phone?
Second, I used odin to flash my phones before, however, I remember that firmware is one thing, but I would also need the carrier proprietary modem? If the firmware flash still requires separate files, where can I find Bell Canada's modem?
I know there are plenty of guides, and threads that can help answer my questions, though I must suck at searching... Besides, asking questions gives specific answers, and I know this community has always been very helpful
You would be better off asking in the forum for your phone

You're not going to find any stock firmware that does not have carrier bloat. You'll either have to root and get rid of it yourself or flash a custom rom

To get rid of bloat, you need to root, check chainfires CF-auto root for that, to flash a rom, any rom, you need a custom recovery, although you can flash roms from sammobile with odin. As for the bloat, it is suggested to freeze what you don't want in titainuum backup which will remove them from your apps drawer. This way you can make sure the phone still works. The modem for 4.4.2 is NC1 can be found here under a bunch of links, that is flashed with Odin. The Canadian modem is not carrier specific but your APNs are so you need to likely re-enter them if you cn't get data to work.
Hi all, just updated the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to CyanogenMod 5.1.1 ROM. Phone doesn't recognize SIM card (I live in UK) anymore, baseband is showing as "unknown" under the About Phone section. Please can someone let me know where I can download the Baseband/Modem firmware for SM-N910F?
Many thanks!
You could attempt to download the full stock firmware by either using 'Samfirm' or the website 'Sammobile'
Unbranded Note 4 CSC is BTU but it is currently still on Android 5.0.1 but the modem and bootloader will still work fine with Cyanogenmod ROMs.
Right, I did download the official Samsung firmware N910FXXU1BOC5 from a website, but when flashing with Odin 3.09 I was getting a error. So I ended up using the customized ROM which didn't seem to have the baseband/model inside. How could I extract the baseband from the official firmware in MD5 format?

Bootloader
Modem
Put your phone in download mode manually (Pull the battery out and put it back in after 10 seconds and then hold volume down + Home button and power on the device) Then connect it to your PC and run Odin as Admin and flash the bootloader and modem.
Make sure you uninstall Kies if you have it installed.

Hi mate,
I have a quick question with which I hope you can help (if you have the time of course ). There is a newer firmware version for UK, which is COK3 (and O2, which is what I have), and I'd like to update to this one, but the only way I know would be to update the phone entirely and then root it again and install whatever mod rom I'm using from there. However, this would be a painful lot of work. Do you know (or mind sharing) how to extract the baseband from an official md5 release so as to update this only or as well as the bootloader? Is there any way to put the entire firmware md5 file on Odin and tell the software to update just one thing?
I saw that you did just that above and I'm having some trouble with the phone connection being lost quite often, so it would be of great help.
Many thanks in advance for your help mate!

Thanks for the quick response mate! You are the man! I still have a couple of questions though. Firstly, what's the difference between the cp and bl files in the link in your signature? I take it that bl stands for bootloader, but not sure of what cp stands for then. In any case, the most important bit I need/want is the baseband, and since I'm in the UK and my network carrier is O2, I believe the XXU1COK3 (as per Sammobile) would be my best bet, is that right? Will it make much of a difference with the XXU1COJ3 that I have installed right now? In any case, is the bl-cok3.tar file in your link the same XXI1COK3 baseband?
Secondly, that other post that you included is for a galaxy s3 and within that topic they link to a galaxy s4 topic, will those files and guidelines also work for our note 4?
Finally, I have TWRP recovery and within advanced backup I can individually backup the boot (which I imagine is the bootloader) and the modem (which I suppose is the baseband as such). Do you know if I could I install a new firmware through Odin and, backup the modem and boot, and then restore everything but those two things from an different rom backup? Have you ever tried?
Thank you for your time bro! I know that these might be a little bit of a newbie's questions but for more thar I search, I can't find anything close enough to answer what I'm asking.

In the bootloader and modem folders I have included the latest Odin, if you use that the 'CP' and 'BL' will make sense.
CP= Modem
BL=Bootloader
The steps should still work for the Note4.
I don't back-up and restore bootloaders or modems using TWRP.

Aah OK, that makes sense. But then the modem I am talking about is not in that list, is it? However, the bootloader is I think. I don't see a point in doing that, it won't make a difference. The firmware does not have a 'COK3' modem. So I can't extract it if it doesn't exist. The O2U firmware had a bootloader of COK3, CSC of COJ1 and modem of COJ3.
If the modem isn't working well then you should flash a stock firmware for your region and apply the appropriate CSC.

Hey guys,
since the first flashable firmwares for official Nougat roll out I'm intereseted in upgrading my S7 Edge. Alas I hold off updating in the past, so I'm on 6.0.1 G935FXXU1BPH1 from around september. I have root access and twrp installed and would like to remain that way. The instructions in the big odin firmware thread don't state wether root will be retained or not. Besides I'm on an older version which might result in problems ( I think).
What do you think would be the best way to upgrade?
Flashing firmware using odin would usually wipe data, though not always, and that means you will lose root. Not a big deal anymore as you can always reflash twrp and re-root the same way you obtained it.
It would be helpful to know which thread you're looking at in the first place to advise further.

I approached the OP's initial question on upgrading to Nougat, though it wasn't clear which way he wanted to go, hence the request for ideas on best ways to upgrade.
I've not tried flashing official Nougat using Odin and probably there isn't a need to do so at this time since upgrading from MM to Nougat is possible with the use of twrp and custom roms. It doesn't help that Nougat official firmware is currently only available for 2 regions (BTU and O2C).

Flashing firmware in odin absolutely does not wipe data and never has.
If you factory reset using the stock recovery that will wipe your device.

Probably you have been using Home_CSC that's why it doesn't wipe your data. Put in the regular CSC tar file and it will wipe your data.
If flashing firmware in Odin doesn't wipe data, how then does the process help your phone recover from a soft brick, effectively returning the phone back to that 'fresh from the oven' state, with the need to re-setup from scratch and reinstall all 3rd-party apps.
I meant this thread, because it seems to be the only one linking to the official Nougat download. Another problem seems to be the HOME_CSC thing where the OP states that I should use the one from my own countries latest firmware (Germany) which isn't available yet for Nougat.

True that. Apart from the United Kingdom region (BTU) and Czech Republic (O2C carrier), official Nougat firmware remains elusive at the time of this post.
From some of the thread posts, it appears that there is no harm using OXA csc, which would mean flashing the entire BTU firmware package. Doing so, however, would wipe your phone data, afterwhich you can stay on BTU until new firmware is released for your region.

OXA csc is included inside official Nougat BTU firmware, downloadable from Sammobile.
You can learn more about TWRP for the S7 Edge from https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...very-official-twrp-hero2lte-3-0-0-0-t3334084..
With twrp 3.0.2-4, you can then flash custom rom builds based on Nougat 7.0 firmware.

I only ever flash the entire firmware package which is meant for my device/ region. Doing anything other than that may have mixed results and anything to do with altering the csc will wipe your device.
Depending on exactly how you soft bricked your device flashing in odin only may not recover your device and that is when a factory reset may be needed and as mentioned doing that will wipe your device.
It strictly depends on the circumstances.
I have been using odin for years and years across over a dozen devices and have never seen it wipe a device yet.

True that, and as I mentioned earlier it will wipe data USUALLY, except for certain circumstances, for eg. using HOME_CSC instead of a regular CSC tar, for which I must add that the inclusion of HOME_CSC in firmware packages is entirely device/version and region dependent.
Some firmware come in singular files to be flashed using the AP slot only while others are broken into separate files for multi-slot flashing. I'm sure the former will wipe your phone data no questions asked, and the latter if CSC (not HOME_CSC) is flashed in my experience with both package formats.
I've looked on updato and sammobile for stock ATT SM-G950U Firmware to no avail.
Can someone please point me in the right direction. I need to flash stock back on mine to get it up and running again.
Also, I'm thinking about downgrading to another phone from AT&T any suggestions on which phone I should go with?
Possibly one that's able to root.
Thanks in advance.

Any luck finding this version of FW?
Unlike other carriers, AT&T firmwares are not available via official channels, so Updato doesn't collect them. Your best bet is to search these forums and Google third-party websites for the exact baseband that you're looking for. Hopefully somebody has made it available for free download.
Hey guys, I have a Samsung S8 which I was running LinageOS on but now was to revert back to the stock android ROM.
The issue I have is it appears to be a South Koera (KTC) phone, but it always has this KTMobile crap on it when I flash it. So my question is can I flash another firmware?
I need some help understanding the different components made up in the firmware and what I can and cannot deviate from (to avoid bricking).
AP
CSC
BL
CP
Which of these HAVE to be the same? Im guessing bootloader (BL) must match otherwise I will brick it.
There is also a little confusion over weather it is a SM-G950F or a SM-G950N. I have seen the phone report both.
Is there a way or a firmware I can flash without all the KTMobile crap on it, or could I just flash a New Zealand firmware as I am based in New Zealand.
The firmware I installed currently is G950NKSU5DUA2, but it is buggy and is causing crashes. Can I deviate from this G950NKSU5DUA2 and chose a different firmware?
Thanks in advance.
