I tried every way i could think off to get my pictures of the phone. I even bought a mhl adapter with a usb port so you can use a mouse and/or keyboard.... But it doesn't seem to work.
Is it possible that the firmware on the phone is to old to support a otg mouse?
Also if I flash a newer frimware over with odin will that delete the screen password or overwrite my data partition?
Do you guys have any other ideas how to get my data of the phone?
Yes, it will wipe everything.
Without USB debugging activated, the only way would be to actually get the screen replaced.

Just bought a used Acer A500 tablet off Craiglist. I tested everything I could but didn't have a USB device with me.
It's now rooted, with unlocked ISC bootloader and flashed to Flexreaper's latest ICS ROM.
No matter what I do, I can't get any USB devices to work. I tried a wired USB mouse, a wireless 2.4Ghz mouse, mutiple USB flash drives, and my Canon DSLR camera and nothing works. Stone dead, no LED lights on the USB devices or anything. The primary reason I bought the A500 was for the full USB port and mine appears to be dead!
I've inspected the port with a flashlight and the pins do not appear to be damaged in any way. Does anybody have any ideas what may be going on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure, when you install a custom rom, you do all the Wipes and Formats as required in the Original Post (OP). This is probably where you may have made a mistake, and you still have some leftover code from the previous rom.
Or, try installing a different Rom (after all wipes and formats of course).
In CWM....
Wipe:
1. User Data/Factory Reset
2. Cache
3. Dalvik Cache
Then goto Mounts and Storage
1. Format System
2. Format Flexrom
Then go back and install the Rom again or try a different Rom just to check. Remember, Flexreaper is a heavily modded rom, so sometimes, you might want to try something a little less modded, like EZ Terry's or Smaury's just to make sure the basics are working.
Then if you want, install Flexreaper.

Flashed back to stock ICS today. Wiped everything, still no luck. "It's dead Jim"
This is really a bummer. I really like this tablet but I need USB host for viewing my photos from my camera. I'm going to have to sell it as is and take a loss.
What is an A500 in good condition with a dead USB port worth?

The USB host only work with USB with FAT32 format, maybe your usb is NTFS , that might be a reason.
Okay, here's the situation. My girlfriend dropped her S5 and the screen cracked. At first you could see part of the screen, but overnight that stopped working and it's completely black now. The digitizer kind of works, I can unlock the phone but don't know where to go from there. All I'm trying to do is restore her apps and app data to her replacement S5.
I've tried the following:
A. Backed up the the broken screen S5 via both Smart Switch and Kies 3, but for whatever reason both programs do not allow the apps to be restored to the new S5. In one of those programs it mentioned apps need to be installed first before restoring, so I tried installing a couple of apps on the new phone, but still the app restore check box in both smart switch and Kies is greyed out.
B. I pushed sidesync to the broken phone and can see that it is installed from the app backups in both smart switch and kies, but I can't open it on the broken phone so I can't get the virtual screen to work.
C. USB debugging is NOT enabled on the broken phone. I tried blindly navigating but I'm not even sure if I'm getting anywhere.
D. Bought the Samsung USB to HDMI adapter cable. I can get it to work with the new S5, but don't get a signal when connecting it to the broken S5.
My approach so far is to try and get USB Debugging enabled. Then I could use one of the Android virtual screen programs download and run Helium to backup apps and app data, or try a 3rd party Android Transfer PC program (tried one but requires USB debugging). Here are my questions that hopefully someone can answer:
1. I read somewhere that you can enable USB debugging by flashing a custom kernel that has USB Debugging/ADB enabled. Would it be possible to modify a stock NK2 kernel so that it has USB debugging enabled and then I could then flash the modified NK2 kernel to the broken S5? It is recognized in Odin and I'm fairly sure I can get it into Download mode.
2. Would taking apart the broken S5 allow me to possibly fix/mend whatever is broken or disconnected and preventing the HDMI cable from working?
3. Is there some way to restore Apps and App data from the Kies 3 or Smart Switch backups to the new S5? It seems very strange to offer backups of Apps and data in in both programs, but not allow them to be restored to the same make and model replacement phone.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know, I'm willing to try anything. Thanks!
Notes:
If I had done any of the following I could have avoided this mess. (1) Turn on USB debugging (2) Run Samsung sidesync at least once on the phone before it broke, it seems to automatically start if you've gone past the intro screen once. (3) Backed up apps and data via Helium (her phone was not rooted).
Hello, I bought a tablet that had a broken windows. It just boots up to a screen asking for recovery media. Unfortunately when I plugged in a usb keyboard to access bios I decided to fiddle with the usb settings, and result, now usb devices are not recognized I was trying to find a way to make a usb hub to work in order to have a keyboard attached simultaneously with a usb stick, to install windows.
Now I am stuck with this, since I cant find a way to reset the bios, is there anything that can be done since no key combination will reset this and no reset button exists on this tab?
can anybody help out on this matter or is the device a lost cause? Somehow I can't believe, only things I need is a bios reset and a usb hub that allows me to use a bootable usb stick and keyboard for install?
Have a note 4 on a custom rom- android kitkat. Was working fine, until i wiped data/cache a few times in TWRP recovery to do a clean install of the rom. Phone restarted without an OS, and then i couldn't get pass the boot logo screen. Couldn't flash any rom in recovery. So i did a restore thru TWRP from a backup. So now the phone boots, but it pc won't recognize it. Everytime i plug it, I get "One of the USB devices attached to your computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it". Under device manager, I get "Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)".
Things I have tried:
-Uninstalled usb drivers and let windows reinstall,
-at least 5 different usb cables
-at least 3 different Samsung oem usb cables
-other usb ports on the PC
-3 different pc (all with same- so im guessing its a problem with the phone)
-physically tried to push up the usb port on the phone- bad connection (someone recommended on google search)
- even when as far to reinstall windows OS
-*#0808# and set it to AP, MTP + ADB
-yes usb debugging is enabled
-download mode (odin does not see the phone, so cannot flash stock/custom rom
-diferent versions of odin
-different version of Samsung usb drivers
-have other samsung phones (note 5, and s6) and windows recognize those.
-phone does charge thru usb
need to get phone working again

Download stock rom from sammobile and flash it via odin.
Or else, flash the cf auto root file via odin, this reset all partitions.

Sorry, my bad.
So, the author can try to repair partitions via twrp.
Go to wipe/advanced wipe and then select "Repair or change file system".
Select the partitions and repair them.

Honestly man search my username ziggsta2 I had the same issue I had to buy another note 4 and even this used phone I got off eBay has the same problem when I wiggled the micro USB cord up and down I got it to connect, I don't suggest you doing this, but what might work is taking a very small piece of plastic and cleaning out your USB port on your phone, I believe these ports go bad after awhile as I have encountered this twice on two separate devices maybe you have a different issue but theres my two cents

i have tried. at this point i think it's hardware failure with the usb port. Stupid buying those cheap usb cables probably damaged the port because it seems to require a little more force than samsung cable. Planning ordering one and replacing. hopefully i don't do more damage. Had this phone for a long time and miss flashing roms on it.
i have still not fixed this problem....lol. had a new phone and been in drawer. did replace the usb port but it wasn't the problem. would like some solutions if anyone can help.

I have a g930v that I need to get U or T firmware on for wifi calling. Problem is the USB is apparently bad. Charges and fast-charges just fine. But when connected to the pc it shows the device is unreconized. Happens on multiple pc, port, and cable combinations, all ov which my Tab S2 will connect with. Is there anyway to flash through ADBlink terminal or from SD card without using Odin or get the PC to reconize the phone (doubt full if the USB port is bad)? Tripping Knox doesn't bother me as I don't use Samsung Pay and the phone is clearly out of warranty and it will be used until it dies rather then traded it. I have file sharing turned on, adb dubugging is on, OEM unlock is on, USB configuration is set to MTP, verifify apps via USB is off. If I manually update the Microsoft generic driver with the Samsung driver I get Code 29 so I now the phone isn't shaking hands with the PC. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

either you have to change the USB chip on the system board or change the whole board, changing USB port/charging port wont fix this issues, and you can't flash without odin.

Thanks for the feedback. So it most likely the system board and not the charging board. Bummer. I am going to guess there is a 250% chance that it is a bga layout also. Looks like I'll suffer until I can grab a new phone. Thanks again.
