I have noticed that when I charge the phone, the screen becomes unresponsive and I have to press multiple time to respond, both touch and slide commands.
Does anyone has this problem?
The moment I unplug the cable it works ok.
Only with fast charger. With usb cable in computer works fine.

Try to restart your device when fast charging or try another cable...
Tried with another cable and another charger with 2Amps instead of original charger with 3 amps and nothing.
This happends when the phone is discharged 3-6%. If the phone is 60-80% and I charge-it it works fine.
Bad earth connection of ur home makes u do that. Nothing alarming. Just dont touch ur phone when its charging u might kill something in it due to built up static.
I tried to play some games while charging and was imposible
Are you on CM13? Had this problem with every cm13 rom
It seems a cable problem or when you plugin you cable to the phone ,the temperature of phone will be higher , this will cause the touch screen more difficult to touch . maybe you can cold down the phone's temperature.
I'm on Cydras google edition. Works fine in rest. And sometime gets very hot. Like almost 50 degrees C hot.
I use L speed set on battery to calm down a little the cpu but nothing till now. It may be related the heat with screen not responding.

Hi All
When I have my universal plugged into my USB on my Laptop it dosnt chanrge the device until I switch the screen off is this normal ?
Is there a setting ?
Thanks
Steve
I have the same with USB cables and several chargers (wall and car) I think it depends on the wiring.
Mostly the MDA start charging after a few seconds even if the screen is on though.
Suspect your laptop can't supply enough power through the USB port to power the screen & charge the battery.
You might want to try reducing the screen brightness to minimum to see if that leaves enough spare power to charge the battery.
Mike
It's normal. The laptops suply 0.5A but your charger suply 1A. So you sould keep screen off, or BT and Wifi off if you want your pda increases the battery level instead of decreasing......
Well as I experience the problem it is not a problem of too much load. If I switch the screen back on after it starts charging it works fine still.
sure. Because the screen on eats much power
and it doesn't when you switch it on later?
Let's se. If you turn off the screen using some program (not the pda, only the screen) the energy consumption will be less so your pda will charge. BUT if you let the screen ON the pda will spend more energy than the received by the laptop so the battery level will decrease......
I doubt that is what he is referring too. I assume he's talking about the orange led. That does sometimes not come on when the screen is on, but if you swith it off it comes on and then you can switch the screen back on and charging works fine.
I really doubt that the MDA uses more power than USB can supply. You'd have to have a lot of other devices connected to the same port/hub and seeing how this is on a notebook ...
Probably does not check power requirements all the time so you may get into a position where it can charge & have the back light on.
So one of two things will happen depending on how well you laptop was designed.
1) It will take a very long time to charge while the display is on.
2) Damage the USB power supply as the PDA will take more than the USB port can supply without damaging it.
Mike
Of course I'm not the thread starter, but what I have experienced is that it's not about the speed of charging just that the led needs to go orange and that it will not do so when the screen is on (or with a delay)
So in the end the real problem is that charging does not start when the orange led is not on (as the device remains switched on). Not that it takes longer when the screen is on. Simply that there will be no charging at all.
I have ended up with an empty battery because of this myself a few times. If I remember to switch off the device when it's hooked up then it charges fine if I switch it back on.
I have also had the same problem from a 1A wall charger. So it's not just a matter of power being available. It has to be something with wiring or signals from the charge cable too.
I'll try to see what the difference is between chargers that do work immediately and ones that only work after you switch off the device.
Some USB ports may also be designed to supply power (or a bit more umph!) to external devices. For example, one of my laptops has two USB ports; a normal one and one with a "plus" symbol designed for powering devices like floppy, or USB hard disc drives.

Completely agreed. I have exactly te same situation, whether I use the computer's USB power or a 1A wall charger. I have tried various cables with to no avail. If I want the device to charge, I must:
1. Turn off the Universal by pushing the power button,
2. Then feed the electricity,
3. Then the orange light comes on, and it is charging,
4. Then I can do whatever I want with the device as it charges.
When my Universal was new, it did not have this issue, so I do not know if a firmware update, a reset, or some third-party software caused this to happen.
My understanding is that the display backlight uses most of the power I can get a decent charge by just closing the lid rather than using the off button.

My battery was down to about 38%, charging via USB (Lid closed) charged upto about 83% after about 3hours - Not quick but good in an emergency.

Got a bit of a weird update here...
Normally, my unit does the same as above...wont charge if display is on, removing cable, closing lid/turning off then applying charge resolves issue.
Now, I used to try the charge cable first, if it didnt work, unplug, close lid, apply charge again.
Past few days, I have been inserting the charge cable in and pressing power (lid still up)...at this point it doesnt charge (does if you close lid instead of pressing power), but if i now close lid and re-open lid, the screen comes on and so does the charge..at the same time ?!?!?!
I have tried this process and left lid closed for few mins before opening it, but the charge starts when the lid is opened not closed.
And also, if you get unit charging, then remove charge, you can apply charge again in any power state (within 3 mins) and unit will charge instantly?!?!? After 3 mins you have to mess about with power and lid...
So, is the charge linked to the lid closing, or linked to a change of status of the units power???
EDIT: ahh haaaa...the 3 min thing was cos my power down timeout was 3 mins :wink: so I did some testing;
1. lid up, screen on, backlight on - insert cable (no charge), press power (no charge), close lid (no charge), open lid (charge)
2. lid up, screen on, backlight off - insert cable (no charge), press power (no charge), close lid (charge)
3. lid up, screen off (from timeout, not power button) - insert cable (no charge), close lid (charge)
4. lid up, screen off (from power button) - insert cable (no charge), press power (no charge), close lid (charge)
......helpppppppppppppppppppppppp
Ha, ha, I guess these machines are becoming so complex that they start to become really "alive"

how many secs elapse before you close lid in these experiments? it is normal to wait a couple of seconds before the charge led comes on.. sorry if this was too obvious!
other ideas: the contact is not good, and when you move the unit it could get better.
do you use the usb sync cable to charge or wall charger? i use the latter. supposed to be much better.

I have tried these test with USB from laptop, USB from PC, USB from powered HUB, Wall charger and Car Charger...all same results. And I did wait for several seconds before closing the lid, in the vain hope that it would start charging...sighhhhhhhhh.
Only difference I have noted...and this may point to a possible app to fix it...if you use USB cable from PC/Laptop with ActivSync installed, it starts charging more reliably ?!?!? Kinda points to this being a polling problem within the units software ie: activsync connection sends a request which prompts device to check port status, sees power and starts charging...whereas a connection with only power doesnt force a poll. Problem here is, laptop/PC direct connect (as opposed to a hub connection which can cause some problems) is only 500mA power...wall charger is 1A...so charging time on a USB connection is VERY slow.
Anyone know of an application (or can write one) to change polling frequency on device??? Or maybe there is a registry setting that covers this?
*prays on knees*
You have the problem with the standard MDA Pro charger too? Or do you have another wall charger?
Between the different chargers that I have I see great variation in the time they take to start charging. Some start immediately, some will take a few seconds and some will never start if the device is on (or screen is open) Each charger behaves quite similar every time though.
In my case I doubt software would help much. I actually have 2 MDA pros ( (it fell and the screen broke so I got a new one) They each have a different rom and I think the behavior between them is similar. Although I don't recall ever having the MDA pro mot charge in my car as it did with my old machine.
I'm still guessing there is a difference in a signal line somewhere that the MDA pro detects the charge quicker.
have anyone got issues with S2 when plugged into power?
ie when I start recharging direct from 240V adapter, my S2 started getting VERY laggy and slow.
It immediately goes back to normal response when I unplug power.
I have never problem like you

Try using an alternative charger...probably your mains charger or the usb connector on the charger is damaged.
I'm pretty sure its a issue with the s/w as I have used the charger on another phone without any issue.
unless its one of the apps I'm using, not sure how to narrow it down.
mtrax...
I have the same issue.
You´re not alone...LOL
FYI the common issue I have when plugged in is that its not easy to unlock screen, takes me a 2-3 swipes to unlock screen and after that it seems that it ignores every other key press..
Any one reported this to Samsung? I will try to log a ticket to see what happens.
Try do a multi touch test while its plugged in see if the screens acting funny.
how do I do a multi-touch test?
what will that prove? as the screen works fine when unplugged.
I have the same issue but only when charging with the usb lead (with usb power adapter) instead of the standard mains charger. Think it might have stopped now that debugging is enabled and the Samsung kies screen doesn't come up when i connect the usb.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Took my phone 2 hours to charge from 36 % to 100 %
note this issue doesn't occur when charging via PC ONLY via 240V mains, but let me try with USB debugging on.
edit tried USB debbuging still has issue.
Note is the 240V USB cable different from a normal USB cable? ie perhaps the device thinks its a PC connection
the phone is laggy because of the electrical interference from a faulty charger or some other electrical equipment in the near vicinity...
Please note that actually the capacitive touchscreen becomes laggy not the applications/services...
keep it away from the electrical interference...use the samsung original charger..gud quality USB cable....and the issue will be gone... for sure
looks like its the charger, the A/C adapter I got with the phone was UK which is why I didn't use it to begin with, but tried the samsung one with a UK/AU adapter and its fine..
hmm who would have thought that was the issue...
interesting it didn't affect my other HTC phone.
Same issue here, but something special:
I ebayed another charger for my sgs2, original samsung one. Same serial number, same description, same style.. but i got the charging problem only with the new one.
With my original charger (the one, which was delivered with the phone) works fine. No slow and no lag.
The new one was about 5 euro, seems to be an original...
to demonstrate my point that its the electrical interference from the dodgy chargers onto the capacitive touchscreen... do this and report back...
plug the faulty charger onto the socket BUT DO NOT charge the phone with it...
keep the phone near to the charger wires etc....(not in charge)... you will see the screen lagging sometimes unresponsive...
now move the phone away ...it will work fine..
you can keep on using the dodgy chargers for charging...but use the phone only after it has been charged and is away from the charger...

I am not able to reproduce that with my original charger. There is no lag or any other problem. Switching to my second "original" (ebay 5 €uro) samsung charger leads me direct to the lag and your description. First i thought my second one is not an original one, but because of your description there seems to be a diffrent quality on the original charger depending on it production date.. unit.. charge.. or whatever.
I bought a sgs2 from the UK, and have a UK to AUS converter on the stock charger and I have no lag when it's charging or near chargers.
Sorry. Not a problem here. Writing now and plugged. Very responsive.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
The electrical interference with the capacitive display is bullcrap since it needs electrical properties to respond. So it depends on whether your body has enough electrical properties.
So back to the point:
It is due to CPU reducing the clock speeds to prevent the phone from overheating as the battery itself produces enough heat anyway.
Many other people may not notice it since they may not perform intensive tasks while the phone is plugged in and the variation itself is also almost unnoticeable.
I have the same issue but as I said, it's almost unnoticeable to even bring it up in this forum. I haven't done any testing myself to prove this, but the same safety feature is implemented in most modern phones.
I have the same issue - I also had this issue with my Atrix.
Right my phone is acting up. Suddenly it says its charging while i'm out at the mall shopping, but worst part is, it is loosing power fast, like its somehow discharging. I tried charging it, but it wont work, it doesn't say it's charging when i plug it in, only after several reboots and pulling out battery. Another wierd thing, i power itself up whenever i plug in the battery. Sometimes it also recognizes the wall charger as an usb plug, and the usb charger doesnt really seem to work.
I have no clue to what is going on, and sorry for making another battery thread.
I had this problem just the other day. The phone had the charging icon when connected to nothing then suddenly launched the voice navigation app. I think the constant loading and apparent pressing of the home button (Even though it wasn't actually pressed) repeatedly drained the battery. To fix this I simply flashed my current rom and kernel again. I had previously been playing around with Signalboost which drained my battery so I concluded it had screwed up some system files as well. Re-flashing seems to have fixed my issues since.
Hard reset or flash a different rom.
If the problem persists then chances are that its a hardware or battery problem.
Sent From My Fingers To Your Face......
No need to reset or flash anything. Your USB port got dirty or you you bended the USB PCB (this also happens if you forced to plug USB cable upside down).

So YD206 about a month old. Was connected to official yota charger (via a magnetic usb cable), noticed the plug at the phone end getting quite hot. Phone now essentially dead, wont boot, doesn't seem to charge. We also realised the charger had come out of the wall socket. But the yotaphone light was intermittently flashing on the charger.
Whilst I am inclined to blame the magnetic charging cable, is it possible for current to flow in reverse from phone to charger and essentially discharge the phone battery below acceptable levels?
Any advice on rebooting it (can't remove the battery like I would on a Samsung) so whats the procedure?
Just a follow up charger not the issue, it crashed in use and the power button became non-responsive, with the screen off, and the e-ink display on but also unresponsive. Did not turn on when connected to a charger. However when I connected it to my pc it did register in device manager as MTP device, so I knew it was still alive. Removed the sim and held the power button down for 10 seconds then it rebooted.
Hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem.
Failing that it would probably have to be left to discharge (might take a while if nothing is running) then powered back on with charger attached.
I have similar problem. My phone got hot while not charging (about 15% of battery) and crashed. Then forced reboot (hold power button for about 10 seconds) helped while phone was connected to Yota charger, battery was dead, but phone booted (EPD on, did not check rest) and got to about 81%. After removing it from charger, same thing happened again, no luck with forced reboot this time. Phone was blazing hot and did not respond, then crashed again. No response after connecting charger or forced reboot. Any experience with this issue appreciated.

It seems a battery issue. Have your Yotaphone a valid warranty?

I am not sure about my warranty, bought it off AliExpress, I guess I could try to send it to manufacurer (i heard Russia provides repair service).
EDIT ( t + 2 days): I managed to start my Yota again. I connected it to computer and after about 5 minutes, magic happened and phone started all by itself. I will try to find out more, will update this as soon as I find something
Man, you are more lucky than me, I have a dead yotaphone lying around here. It also died after connecting it to a bad power source.
In my case it was the usb-port of a monitor.
When I checked the usb-port with a cable with a volt/amp display I saw that it was going on and off very quickly.
But so I would say be careful where you connect your yotaphone to, it does not seem to handle weird power sources all too well.

I actually thought about burning charging circuitry a lot. I wonder, if you would be able to test wireless charging. With some luck, it is independent enough to not be affected by burning micro usb charging route (depends where high voltage safety is implemented). If this make any sense to you, please give this a try (I think IKEA is place to go, they should have working wireless chargers in their model setups) and report back. If I am wrong in any aspect, I'd appreciate any correction with explanation.

Sorry for the late reply, did not see the quote, but it does not work with wireless charging either. I think the battery still has a lot of charge too. Thing is that the Motherboard also gets hot after a while when I try to charge it. I'm pretty sure my motherboard is dead. But I have another Yotaphone now, so maybe in the future I will test with every separable part replaced.
I use the charger from my iphone. It works great, although with the yotacharger also works well. Attention that I have a YotaPhone YD201 with Russian base and european compilation. Like I said the Iphone charger works great and doesn't warm my Yotaphone 2 . It might be a solution for your problems with charging.
My LCD screen broke so I decdided to change to mocha brown color, the screen works fine. However I am only able to charge from the computer, via usb, the most ultra slow method, fast charge does not work for more then 1-2 minutes after that it turns of, the normal charger only works stable if the phone is turned off when I charge. Also when I charge when phone is turned off it can behave strange like the screen turn on and charge symbols shows for 10 seconds then it stops to charge and screen turn of then same thing again for 10 seconds, the more battery juice I get it seem easier to charge and it gets more stable, it is worse when battery is empty. Charging via usb from computer is always painfully slow takes like 4 hours but it is atleast stable.
The repair shop told me the battery could be defective and we both did agree it did look little bit sketchy on the surface, and also the dimensions to orginal battery on the phone it had slightly smaller dimensions, this might be normal for replacement batteries for mate 8 ?
I was at the repair shop again I told them about that the charging acting weird, their charger did work normal at first for atleast 3-4 minutes we tried then he tried my fast charger (huawei mate 8 original) then it did work for like 1 minute then stopped charging, then not even the charger that worked before at the shop did work anymore, it is like the chip/software in the phone start some kind of failsafe protocol to stop the charging, is this possible ?
Also when I charge from the computer it does not turn up as a device or gets visible with hisuite so the another alternative is that the usb board got defective during the LCD/Battery change, cause it did work fine before that.
it turned out it was the battery that was defect, after replcaing battery again everything work as normal again including connecting usb port to the PC
yeah i kinda have the same problem but my microphone, sound, speaker will not work when i go on to youtube it wont even let me watch a single video. i need help
