Phone suddenly says it's charging - Galaxy S II General

Right my phone is acting up. Suddenly it says its charging while i'm out at the mall shopping, but worst part is, it is loosing power fast, like its somehow discharging. I tried charging it, but it wont work, it doesn't say it's charging when i plug it in, only after several reboots and pulling out battery. Another wierd thing, i power itself up whenever i plug in the battery. Sometimes it also recognizes the wall charger as an usb plug, and the usb charger doesnt really seem to work.
I have no clue to what is going on, and sorry for making another battery thread.

I had this problem just the other day. The phone had the charging icon when connected to nothing then suddenly launched the voice navigation app. I think the constant loading and apparent pressing of the home button (Even though it wasn't actually pressed) repeatedly drained the battery. To fix this I simply flashed my current rom and kernel again. I had previously been playing around with Signalboost which drained my battery so I concluded it had screwed up some system files as well. Re-flashing seems to have fixed my issues since.

Hard reset or flash a different rom.
If the problem persists then chances are that its a hardware or battery problem.
Sent From My Fingers To Your Face......

No need to reset or flash anything. Your USB port got dirty or you you bended the USB PCB (this also happens if you forced to plug USB cable upside down).

[Q] Defy reboots after plugging in usb

I recently flashed my Defy with 3.4.2-179-2 CEE DEBLUR and it reboots every time I plug in my usb cable. It doesn't matter if it's connected to a PC or to the power adapter. Anyone have the same issue and know of a solution?
I did a google search and found someone complaining of the same issue but didn't see a solution.
More background:
I had an issue with my phone and when I went to do a factory reset I was stuck on the google screen. My power ended up running low to the point where I couldn't run the bootloader. I had to charge the battery manually with a battery charger and some wires. I monitored the voltage throughout to make sure the battery was ok. After flashing the new SBF I found that things worked fine except whenever I plugged in a USB cable it would reset. I put CM7 on the phone hoping it'd help but the problem still lingers.
I will probably attempt to flash another SBF or maybe reflash the existing one.
Does this problem only exists if the phone is fully booted or does it happen if you plug it in while booting also? Because if its happening while booting too maybe your usb cable is broken and theres a short in the cable that makes the defy reboot. Have you tried another cable? And what about plugging the cable in before booting the phone? Tried this already?
I encountered this problem occasionally before. Dunno why.
There's 3 possible issues here apart from software/firmware causes.
1) The USB cable might shorted.
- This can be confirmed by using multimeter to test the usb cable. You will see a shorting between to wire in the USB cable.
2) The Phone USB port might shorted.
- This can be confirmed by using another good/new usb cable and test it with multimeter.
3) Phone battery broken(happened when you charge it using wire and external charger).
- This can be confirmed by trying another Defy battery and charge it.
hi farsight,
upon further inspection i'm pretty sure the usb port is shorted because if i squeeze the bottom of the case the phone will reboot.
is there any way i could fix this? I've looked at some videos for the disassembly of the defy.
hi iregistry,
yes the issue occurs if the phone is fully booted and when it's booting.
quit risky la.. if under warranty, why not claim/RMA?
hi adie, i bought it new on ebay and i'm not sure how the warranty works on that.
[solved!]
after further testing I believe it was because the battery contacts were not as close together as they were originally due to me manually charging the battery. It must have been right on the very edge because it would work normally but just squeezing it would make it lose connection.
I used a pin to push the contacts closer together and hope this solves the issue. I've plugged in the usb and squeezed the case and so far everything seems ok.
IMO this is a poor design on motorola's part. the raised contacts on the phone are nice but the contacts on the battery are poor.
Thank you everyone for responding.
Had the same issue. Your solution worked on mine as well. Pushed the contacts on + and - in, and it worked! Thank you!
I had the similar issue. I had attempted to charge battery with external universal charger and looks like since then this issue where "phone would reboot upon unplugging the power source" started. Now as mentioned in this post, put the +/- pins bit closer and tried unplug and no issue observed so far.
Thanks. :good:
I too have the same issue. I tried to charge the battery with some direct USB.
Today I dropped the phone on my bed from 2' height and it got restart. But its quite surprise to see the effect of the USB plugin with the battery connector loosing up
I am thinking of putting a small alumunium wrapper on the +/- connector. Let see.

[Q] USB Issue - No/Slow Charge

I have been running the Google Play Edition from Danvhd for months without much issue.
The other day I went from 06/04/2014c to 06/08/2014 and everything seemed to be fine.
However, I did notice that my device was extremely slow when charging - and in some cases, it was draining while charging.
Started to grow a little more concerned so started watching the charge indicator when it was plugged in. I would see that the lightning bolt would come and go.
If I connect it to a Win7 PC, I get the sound that a device has been connected - but the hardware wizard never starts or after a few minutes it will start but fail immediately. If I unplug the device from the PC, I get the sound it has been disconnected.
I've gently worked the cable connector and USB plug back and forth to ensure its not a loose connection there.
I've reset, wiped, and re-installed - but it hasn't resolved the issue. I am using both 3rd party and original cables/charges.
Any ideas?
I'm starting to lean toward a bad USB board, but thought I would check here before I got into that.
Thanks in advance!

did it used to charge fast?? mine was the cable.. after i got a lg g2 fast charge cable i could charge the s4 in about 40 mins.. maybe less...
It did, but not any more.
Like right now I have it hooked to my PC at work and its charging somewhat. But it'll stop periodically and might not pick up again for an hour.
It has to be the USB Flex Board.
Well, I said that and as the day has gone on - the device started charging as expected and without issue.
Only thing was when I woke up this morning the device was unresponsive (black screen) after being plugged in all night.
Took battery out and back in and booted back up with 100% charge and no issue today with any charger or cable.
So, go figure.....
Replaced the USB Flex Cable and that resolved the issue permanently.
Think it might have gotten wet at the gym.

USB Charging issues / Computer does not recognize while on

So this issue happened out of no where after my phone died to zero last night. I tried charging it back up but all I could get out of it was the grey charging battery but it would only stay on for 1-2 seconds shut down and reboot. Let it charging for an hour and got to about 1-2% and it would die as soon as it booted up. Factory restored to OA6 and still see the same issue. This is also the odd thing... I was able to connect it to my computer and use Oden to do the restore! After lots of troubleshooting, trying 4 chargers, I realized wireless charging still works fine. Charged it up 100% over night and wireless charging is still working fine and phone is working fine. Still cannot get USB to be recognized while on either by computer or from USB charger. With a full battery, phone off, and USB plugged in phone still flashes the grey battery icon and reboots constantly.
Only thing I can think of is I had it in my pocket after spin class for a little and moisture might have gotten in the port?
Any ideas what happened here?
Update: I ended up just buying the Nexus 6P since I'm about due for a new phone anyways.
Well just figured I would pass this along. Was bored before and looked at diagrams to fix the USB board and saw this little port in the back you can access really easy. Decided to open that up and press the connection down a little tighter (the USB board is separate from the main board). USB didn't work before doing this, then pressed it tighter plugged USB in again and it worked.

Strange Problem with Charging my S8

Yesterday, my S8 said that there was moisture in the charge port. I look in there and saw that there was something in there, I tried to blow it out several times but managed wipe it out with a handkercheif. After that I swiped the notification and it didn't come back again.
At night time, I plugged my phone to the charger to see that after the phone's screen went off, it stopped charging to come back again when the phone screen turned on. It kept repeating this cycle. But when I unlocked the phone it continued to charge until the phone's screen turned off.
I changed the charger, it charged even when the screen was off. Also, it worked when I tried to use a powerbank. But when I used the packed in charger, it kept repeating the cycle.
Thinking that it might be a bug, I restarted the phone to see it's fixed.
I closed the phone to switch it on this morning. But before I switched it on I plugged the charger to see that it gave the "Drop" icon meaning that there is moisture in the port. Then I switched the phone on. The problem came back! It didn't charge when the phone's screen was off. After I tried to charge it with another charger, I plugged the original charger back. It worked even when the screen was off.
To be sure there wasn't anything stuck in the portI closed the phone, filled the port with water, waited untill its dry and plugged the charger. I stopped giving me the "Drop" icon and started charging the phone.
After that, I turned on the phone and plugged the charger. The problem was fixed!
But "was" fixed... After a while, the problem still persists.
If you can say what might be causing this, thank you!
I think, the problem cause is Fast Charge 2.0
Now I opened the Advanced Battery Options to disable the fast charging, but it turns out that is was already disabled! But wait, it says that its "Fast Charging". To enable it, I unpluged the USB-C. It enabled itself! After plugging the cable back, the problem is solved. At least for the time being.
Some interesting stuff is going on with this phone XD
I got similar problem. After connecting charger phone says fast charging blablabla and after 5 seconds charging is stopped and then after 1 second it charging again but with no fast charging. I've tyied few diferent chargers and cables also i've cleaned usb c port wiith isopropyl alcohole with no luck. Fast charging missing. Restart and switching on/off fast charging performed few times - no luck. Must be a bug in system... any ideas folks??
well i dont have does issues with my s8... but it did once happen that phone didnt want to fast charge but after repluging the cable issue was solved...i would advice u to take ur device to waranty service cuz solving problems on ur own is not acceptable and ur device shouldnt have those issues.

All Sorts of USB-Related Weirdness

Have had a stock Le Pro 3 since Dec 2016. No real issues prior to the last few days.
1. The device will only charge when powered ON. If powered OFF, the phone will vibrate once, the LED indicator will briefly come on, then turn off. Unplugging it and plugging it back it again does literally nothing--no vibration or LED indicator.
2. The device will not power on while plugged in. It will simply vibrate after a few seconds, then nothing.
3. The device will not connect to my PC for data. Have tried four different cables without success. It will charge from PC, however.
4. When connecting to USB and powered ON, the phone will vibrate and show the battery charging indicator, but will then hesitate slightly (battery charging indicator turns off), then shows the battery charging indicator again. Not sure if that means anything, just seems odd given everything else.
5. USB headphones do not detect/work.
6. The USB to 3.5mm adapter for headphones does work.
I've tried a factory reset to no success and have ordered a replacement USB C board just to be safe (it was $5 shipped), but am at a loss as to what to do. Tempted to let the battery drain completely and see if that puts everything into working order, but as it's my only phone, that seems a bit risky if I can't be sure it will ever start charging again while powered down.
Anyone here run into these sorts of issues before and any advice if you have?

A $5 board will not solve your problems. It will likely get you into deeper trouble because it doesn't support mtp and otg. It's only good for charging.
Your connector is probably damaged. You can try contact cleaner/lubricant on the connector. It may fix your issue. Something like this https://www.electrolube.com/products/contact-lubricants/eml/contact_cleaner_lubricants/
I use lubricant often on usb-c connectors even if they are working. Just extends the lifetime of connectors, the pins are really small after all so the contact surface is not much.
Replacing the usb-c board is not an easy task. You would need to remove the screen etc.
