Nougat Powered Mi Mix spotted on Geekbench - Xiaomi Mi MIX Guides, News, & Discussion

Looks like we're finaly getting Nougat.
As you may all know, Nougat doesn''t support Xposed yet. So we cant use any of the amazing plugins/modules.
Would you rather have Nougat now or wait till Xposed is fully compatible?
My answer: At this point, the features and benefits of having Xposed outweigh the incremental features offered by Nougat. So, if Xiaomi continues supporting the Marshmallow build until we have xposed for Nougat, I'll stay with Android 6.0.
In most cases, they may upgrade the base to Nougat when they release stable Nougat. In this case, I'll stay on the last known stable MM ROM until we have Xposed on Nougat.
http://www.gsmarena.com/nougatpowered_xiaomi_mi_mix_spotted_on_geekbench-news-23291.php

this phone, to me is unusable to me without xposed with MIUI. there is very little nougat offers to even think about upgrading.

I choose nougat. As long as there is root I can mod the look and feel without exposed.

xposed is a must.

The article had screenshotted this https://browser.primatelabs.com/v4/cpu/1801163 result, but I found this newer entry
https://browser.primatelabs.com/v4/cpu/1816850
Pay attention to the difference in writing the device name: Mix vs. MIX. Our device's official name when apps read it out through the API is MIX and not Mix. The Android variant is also different: 7.0 is unlikely to be used as a base by MIUI, I guess they will use 7.1.1 as a base. So where do these strange 7.0 Mix entries come from?

Maybe the the device reports to Benchmark apps as "Mix" on the nougat build instead of "MIX". They may have updated/modified the build.prop on the test ROM.
What I'm actually curious about is the "3GB" memory reported on the newer post. Does this mean they may release a "lite" variant with slightly lower specs?

tl:dr
For me both screenies are fake :-/
Detailed conclusion:
This one - https://browser.primatelabs.com/v4/cpu/1801163
- has wrong board ID (should be "msm8996")
- wrong phone name (an mentioned earlier)
This one - https://browser.primatelabs.com/v4/cpu/1816850
- has wrong number of CPU cores (should be 4 core "ARM implementer 81 architecture 8 variant 2 part 517 revision 1")
- has wrong board ID (its from the Huawei manufactured Nexus 6P - codename "Angler" - should be "msm8996")
- wrong memory size

If exposed is not ready for nougat then I'm stuck on marshmallow till then.

Got Note 2 - Now I am lost!

Hi, I got the xiaomi Note 2. looks nice but almost everyapp and text in app is in chinese even though I have selected english as the default language.
Details are: Android Version: 5.0.2.LRX22G
MIUI Version: MIUI 6.7.10.0(LHMCNCH) I Stable
Baseband: MOLY.LR9.W1423.MD.LWTG.MP.V24.P25
Kernel version: 3.10.61+55c995f4-9abe2-d27c84d7
Build No: LRX22G
All system settings up to date - First thing I did was update software but same language thing.
From forums, If I understand correctly, I may have received the 'chinese' Version?
I wanna Root my device - coz you gotta have root.
Install an english rom and get rid of bloatware. I want max Google apps compatibility.
Zero or Near zero bugs.
avoid slowing my device, like degradation on this rom, : http://en.miui.com/thread-167703-1-1.html
(Base score is around 40k in antutu and this guy's rom seems to clock 21k)
But when I visit en.miui.com I get really confused I have only used samsung before and last custom rom I used was like 5 years ago.
Could you please recommend a good Rom that would fit the bill and a ultra noob tutorial for that?
Ple
Hi.
Thats a rom for another phone. Please look at Antutu results. 1280x720 etc.
Gpu score in Antutu would be around 9500 if it runs as it should.
Read the other thread you started and you will find answer. "Redmi Note 2 - How was your experience?"
Thanks

Will Android 7.0 be available for yotaphone2?

Why does this guy have it?
Any solution we can flash nougat?
That guy doesn't have Android Nougat, it is fake. If you look at his firmware version it says that MM is installed. The modifications are done with xposed or other stuff. The android version written in "About Phone" can be changed anytime to anything manually, it's just matter of editing a text file in build.prop. The notification panel and the quick toggles are the same as those obtained using a particular xposed module which "N-tifies" those settings.
Regarding the fact if we will ever have it, who knows. At the moment Qualcomm hasn't released drivers for Snapdragon 801 to work with Nougat. So only back-porting might be possible. When YotaPhone 3 will be released (with Android N, 99% sure), maybe someone will manage to port its ROM to YotaPhone 2.
guys, I know that soon it will be possible to auto-update by WiFi to Android 6 - may be in a month...

Nougat has been ported on various purportedly unsupported devices, Legacy OS is a good example of such endeavours. Even Sony released an extensively functional iteration of Nougat for Xperia Z3 series.
The issues are rather about Google and its policies about Android. An official release of Nougat needs the hardware to pass Android Compatibility Definition Document (CDD) and Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) and mandates hardware-backed full-disk encryption even at file level. Ignoring these prerequisites will definitely invite legal issues if not performance issues to begin with.
I think that A 7.0 isn't as needed as more optimized A 6.0.1 for example EPD screen and battery life as 4.4 and 5.0 have etc.
Nobody dares to test it?

Porting an unsupported OS requires extensive dev support, which is withering away owing to the unpopular status of the device and its age.

No, with every release of new Android version begins the proliferation of spam sites that claim to offer the latest version of the OS for virtually any device. These sites usually have the name of the OS in its address. They're nothing more than click-baits. If there was such a thing for Yotaphone, it would be either on 4PDA or XDA or any other reputed site.
It's a fake site, don't try!

Is Project Treble compatible with the S5?

Hi... I've been reading some news about Project Treble, and how it helps with the custom ROM development and software updates. But I want to ask. Is this working on phones like the Galaxy S5? Because it would be helpful considering the potential of this phone and how stable it is running on Nougat, and an Oreo update would be easier to Port.
Unfortunately, it's not. It is only compatible with phones that were initially shipped with Android 8.0.

But Huawei Mate 9 got an AOSP build of Oreo in one day thanks to this. And it has never gotten updated since Nougat. It used Treble as the blog said.

Mate 9 have 4.4 kernel with android Oreo. S5 have 3.4 kernel always. And treble is compatible by phones with 4.4 kernel and above. So no treble for s5.

I heard something about repartitioning, so it doesn't necessarily has to do with the Kernel, it's more like partitioning the device storage, with A/B partitions and stuff with vendor. I heard about a tool that can do that job called REPIT but I didn't do so much of a research of it.
Mi3 with snapdragon 800 on kernel v 3.10 got android p today so is there any hope for our s5s ,can it be ported to our phones like the redmi devs did
https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-3-xiaomi-mi-4-xiaomi-redmi-4x-android-pie-ports/
I looked into it.
In order to get Project Treble working on our Samsung Galaxy S5, we would have to :
- Repartition device to have 2 partitions, Vendor & AOSP
1. All vendor-specific blobs should be moved to /vendor
2. Some blobs load config files from /system/etc. Just hex-edit them to load from /vendor/etc instead
3. Label and format that unused new partition as /vendor - this should be automatically done with an OTA script
4. The kernel should mount the new partition as /vendor as well
OR
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr.../tool-capire-le-treble-terble-vendor-t3774629
Without repartitioning?
- Have a 'Treblified' ROM already installed. (I believe we have Oreo ported..)
- Have 8.1 Vendor Blobs? I don't know much about this.
Any dev willing to make this dream a reality, please, step forward!

Xiaomi have a terribke habbit of skipping android versions
Take the MiBox for example, from what i hear it never got an official 7.1.2 only leaked builds, they went from 6.0 to 8.0 and still face quite alot of bugs.
don't know if this is the right place for this but my old moto g 2014 with 3.4 kernel version just got android pi port its very smooth as per the reports, i have not installed it yet as i gave that phone to my mom. the phone runs on with a lowly snapdragon 400 chip and 1gb ram also its kernel version is 3.4 which is the same as our s5s so there might be a good chance android pie can be ported to our device

Anyone working on 9.0 for S5?
Official Aex devices will get 9.0 soon so yes I presume
The Galaxy S5 (klte) Kernel source on LOS has reportedly submitted comments about LineageOS 16. So we're having our pie soon.

I've heard from the official website of lineage os that they can turn a device into an A/B device, but I am not sure that whether the A/B device is the one that have 2 partitions, here it is (https://lineageos.org/Changelog-19/)

Its not as simple as having a/b partitions , there is a kernel issue. a simple google search wich show you guys that there is a minimum kernel version required for treble which the s5 is far and i mean far behind that minimum requirement for treble.
I know this is like off-topic but there is now a project WIP going on for Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo, since it's using 3.4 kernel, we using S5 have luck to support treble. At least if someone willing to do it.
For the AB partition it might be impossible to do so.
Now with pascua28's Intelli-Kernel we're even closer to the dream. This guy has managed to do wonders with this device... The last thing that may happen is him being able to update our Kernel version. I don't know how the A/B partition things work, but from what I've heard it requires a higher Kernel version. The S5 runs 3.4 right now, but with @pascua28 work it may get a higher version soon.

chipset and kernel relationship

is the chipset and the kernel versions are related to each other ?
I have observed that phones using Snapdragon 617 chipset are you using the kernel version of 3.10 checked with Moto G4 Plus and on other phones like nubia , BlackBerry dtek, etc
while phones using Snapdragon 430 chipset are using kernel version 3.18.. for ex redmi 4, etc
so my question is kernel versions like 4.4 and other newer versions can't be developed by manufacturer or what? for Snapdragon 617 chipset

They are not at all related to each other. Even in high ended smartphone you will notice 3.18 or above. As it is the minimum requirement for oreo build to function.
They are updated by oems and are maintain by company and are updated via ota.
As lenovo owned Motorola has officially announced oreo for moto g4 plus. As a pain in **s they have to update kernel first(which takes hell amount of time) n then have to push oreo update.
I think i was clear here.[emoji6]

If you're referring to Moto, not a chance. It's too much work to rework the kernel to a such a new version. I suspect that is the same reason there's a much higher delay around with phones that release with Oreo (very few at this time, even the OP5T comes with Nougat).
