New Owner - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

I am new owner of a Redmi Note 3 Pro (Snappdragon), yet to arrive. I bought it from Fastcardtech who are running a promotion at USD 150. I choose in between the Coolpad Charger C1, Leeco Le 2 and this. Why I decided in favour of the Note 3 Pro? SD-Card, micro-sim tray, headphone jack, flat rear side with no sticking out camera lens, better speaker, lesser bulky black display frame. I did like as well the Elephone M3 actually preferred it in some ways, but not it's sloppy build quality and buggy firmware.
I think the Coolpad / Leeco models might be slightly faster but the Note 3 Pro still holds up well in the upper middle range.
Very busy at the moment reading through all the threads. If you have any essential reading tips I am all ear.

Speaker (external) comparision Note 3 vs S4

I'm using S3 and think that the speaker (not earpiece) is just ok (not very good). I think S4 speaker is better than S3 and would like to know how's it compare with Note 3 one. I would really consider buying Note 3 if its has the S4 speaker (though its a bit large for my taste).
Thanks.
this has been one of my concerns as well... i had the s4 and the speaker is weak... after searching vigorously for samples of the note 3 speaker, i've come to the conclusion that it MAY be as good as the note 3 speaker and better than the s4 and s3 speakers.
I like that it's on the bottom instead of the back where it's always getting muffled.. i want to bad to like the speaker quality when i get this phone lol. hope hope hope

Xiaomi Redmi note 2 grouding problem

Check this out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFlQanjTJ2I
Just put your phone on a non conductive object like a piece of leather and check if the touchscreen is responding.
I don't know if I'm the only one or if it's just a poor build quality phone (Black Redmi Note 2 prime).
Sorry but i can't understand, please be more clear.
Are you saying that touch works also with leather? So where is the problem? It works also with cotton! This winter you can use glowes without buy touch ones
No problems on my phone

2016 GEAR VR vs NOTE 8 (and Dremel) - op success

I made a video that I'll upload to youtube "later." I intend to trim it down to the essentials because I believe one absolutely has to make these kinds of videos SUCCINCT and not yammer on for 3/4 of the video about one's life story.
However, the title and the pictures attached really speak for themselves... and I can bore you with my life story here
I heard Samsung was releasing a new Gear VR to fit the Note 8 on this video here https://youtu.be/tR2X0T_3l6o and instead of plopping down $130 for a new Gear VR, I vowed to attack my current 2016 Gear VR (which was FREE with my Galaxy S7) with my trusty dremel.
Samsung sets our pants on fire, comes back with a mediocre S8+ upgrade for ludicrous cost, and then tries to sell us a new Gear VR for $130?
Samsung, I assure you that we certainly are suckers, but we are not made of money.
I received my preordered Note 8 yesterday.
As these kinds of things are best done without the caffeine jitters from my morning coffee, I had to go at it early... and most importantly, before I had been awake long enough to come to my senses about what I had planned.
Planning: Simply consisted of measuring out a piece of cardboard based on the latest measurements reported, then sticking that on my Gear VR to see where I'd need to cut. I also researched where the sensitive electronic bits and pieces were.
Execution: I had crudely used a box cutter to make a basic outline with the actual note 8 in it with the USB C connector the 2016 Gear VR came with for the Note 7. I then taped up what I could to prevent bits of melted plastic dust from getting everywhere, then went to town on it with my dremel.
It works great, but you can kind of see a little sliver of the right eye's image in the far corner of your left eye.
It won't win any beauty pageants, but I'd say she's a keeper
since there are now two galaxy note 8 devices (the tablet and now the new phone), i'm going to leave this here
KRAPPA! We need mods to automatically move Note 8 or filter Note 8 threads in the Note 8.0 discussion area. Like all wee need is Note 8 firmware to brick Note 8.0 devices or incompatible mods to be given out in this area.
I can care less about Note 8 devices, especially here.

Thinking of replacing S9+ with OnePlus 6T what is the suggestion?

I own a Galaxy S9 plus about two month..

you can find a magisk module for viper or dolby
gcam works great and will do you well in regards to reproducing great colors
the mics are much worse, so be prepared for that
the screen is dimmer but imo I like my screen dimmer so that I do not burn my eye sockets with beams of light
I do miss the curved amoled display, but have got over it bc of the the 6.4 inch display with minimal bezals.
Battery will be twice as good when compared to s9 plus, mainly due to custom kernels.
the speaker is plenty loud enough for media consumption
I think it depends on what you use a phone for. If having a great camera, Samsung pay, awesome sound or wireless charging us a must for you than stick with the Galaxy. If you want a blazing fast, near stock ui, with awesome battery life and very fast charging, than go with the OP6t. I switched from a Galaxy S9+ and don't regret it one bit.
I used to have to keep the Galaxy on the wireless charger all day to make sure I always had enough battery to make it through an a few hours away from home. As soon as you turn that beautiful S9 screen on, it seemed like the battery dropped 10 percent every few minutes. I routinely make it through the day on the OP6t with 50 percent left and get around 7 hours of on screen time before needing to charge.
You don't need to do anything custom if you don't want to. I'm running stock and love it. I actually think the screen is awesome. Something about the size and color make it really enjoyable to use. It isn't quite as bright but who cares? I doubt most people use the S9 at Max brightness anyway.
The OP6t doesn't have stereo speakers but the one it does have sounds quite nice. They also recently added an equalizer and sound profiles which I like.
I think it's the ui that completely won me over. Samsung's always felt slow while oxegen os is the fastest Android experience I've ever seen, even when put up against stuff like the pixel.
I like Samsung pay and wireless charging but they aren't must-haves for me. The only thing I really miss is the camera. The OP6t isn't bad but it definitely isn't as good as the S9.
It's two totally different phones. I've had a Note 9 and 6T simultaneously for a while and while the Note 9 is the better phone in almost every regard except speed and battery life (software is subjective) i sold my Note 9 yesterday and keeping the 6T. The main reason being that the 6T feels so much better in the hand (Thunder Purple). The Note is a greeze magnet and that is very uncomfortable to me. The 6T hardly collects fingerprints at all and feels 10 times better in the hand albeit more slippery. But it just feel so much better in the hand. I do miss the audio quality in wired headphones from the Note. But I have recently ordered a Razer usb-c to 3,5mm dongle that is supposed to be much better than the pass-through dongle that is shipped with the 6T as the razer one has a good DAC in it. I also miss the stereo speakers from the Note. But I can live with this.

I have both as well. Going to keep both because both are awesome in different ways. On the weekdays, the note goes to work with me as I like using the pen. If I am traveling I'll take the note as well because the camera is a little better not much though o6t does a good job.

I was thinking of doing the same actually but the oleophobic coating was pretty worn off already in some places on the Note and that disturbed me. It got worn off on the edge parts very quickly by just laying in my pocket in a pair of jeans that has very short pockets so the phone was visible. It rubbed against the edges and in only a few weeks time the coating was totally gone in some areas. I really dislike the edge part of the phone I hope the Note 10 will be flat.
I had note 8 and sold it and went to the 6T. Don't regret it all the 6T is way faster with awesome battery life. I have to say that Google pay is faster than Samsung pay. The only thing I miss is the points from Samsung pay. I have the Galaxy frontier watch paired with the 6t, so use Samsung pay there and Google pay with phone.
At this point the OnePlus camera being being bad is a shoe that no longer fits. It was true in the past with previous devices, no denying it, but nowadays the 6T takes great photos and only those who need, want, and can actually tell the difference between this and the very best need consider it part of their decision process. The only real upgrade you're going to see is battery life, no lies were told above, OnePlus has got the battery thing figured out and you're going to love the new found freedom from charge sources if you move over. Everything else is more or less lateral in the big stuff and a matter of preference in the details. You're on an excellent device of the latest generation, if money is not something you have to throw around I'd stick where you are at least until spring. If you've got a bit of spare ching and the battery life has been annoying for you on the 9 it might be worth a move. If you've got real money then you scratch the itch because, why not scratch it?

So who's getting one?

Seems to have some awesome specs. I've personally been waiting for one of these devices to get wireless charging before I jump in so I'm crossing my fingers. Otherwise it seems to have the same basic feel and design which is great.
I'll be taking it for a spin...once price, purchase, trade in, etc. are official.
I will most likely get one, although I am a bit disappointed. I know most people are looking forward for wireless charging. I don't care too much about that. I was excited for at least 50w fast charging, but apperently it's not going to happen. Still going to get one most likely.
I'll be trading my 7t in on one for sure

OnePlus Ho
Yep have to admit, I'm a ho. I'll be getting one as soon as I can. Keep my OnePlus 7 Pro for testing and playing with Android 11 when avaliable.
Definitely, and if its good this could indeed be my phone for some time.... Looking forward to (finally) wireless charging on a OP phone...
I think I'm still on the fence. My 7 Pro is working great, enjoying some custom roms.
There isn't such a huge difference with 8 Pro, so I might wait a couple of months and see if I can pick up a used one.
Price is likely to be high $900-1000. Not sure I can justify that over the 7Pro I already have.
Buying green direct from oneplus as I always have since the 5T. Can't wait!
I just ordered it from Telekom Germany (OnePlus Blind Box). No idea about the color yet but according to all information it's going to be the 8 Pro with 12/256GB and a couple of extra stuff. If it's not worth it I can still return it within 14 days thanks to the law here. But I'm crossing fingers there's much more in the box than just some cases...
Will be getting one, probably the Ultramarine Blue.

Agree, that colour looks georgeous....:good:
I whole-heartedly wish the side curves are smaller than the 7 Pro's this time around.
I've been on the Pixel wagon, for the most part, since they came out. I skipped the 4 XL because it didn't offer enough of an upgrade over the 3 XL and I prefer the full screen design. For me to have a phone for a year and a half is like a lifetime. I thought I would make it to the 5 XL, but with word that it may be a mid-grade phone, it kind of tempered my desire. Along comes the 8 Pro with high end specs and a full screen, and suddenly I'm yearning for a new phone again. I'm pretty sure I'll be signing up for one as soon as they become available.

I'll definetily buy the Ultramarine Blue, it looks very appealing, altough I am not a huge fan of colored phones.
I will retire my broken screened Pixel 2 XL now, it served me through a lot of adventures.
I'll be hoping that OnePlus nails the camera performance this time.
What's new?
OK = 5g
OK = wireless charging, for saving the usb type C port wear. They talk about 50 Fast charge. That will be OK.
NO !!! = punch in display front camera !!! Horrible !!! Better leave it without front camera !!!
i was hoping for edge to edge screen, but NOT curved. 120hz display is good but it is not mandatory for me.
I hope the camera can take night pictures... also Macro photos !
If i can get it used, i will buy. Like all my OnePlus phones from OP 3 to OP 7 pro.

I don't mind the hole punch. After living with the 3 XL's notch, that hole is nothing.

Yes, because you came from 3 XL.
Hole punch in the upper middle is way less distracting and obstructive than having it on either side. Makes me wonder why OnePlus made it on the side, they could've understood it from Samsung's offerings!

Who says something about 50 w fast charge? This informations is months old. All the articles I have read recently point to 30 watts only. Or did I miss something?
I went 3xl to S20u and i'm not that happy with the camera quality on the s20u , coming from the p3xl, but every OP device i've owned has had a mediocre camera setup, if it's the exact same setup as the find x2 pro with the same sw processing then i'm gonna get it and sell the s20u HK version
