So, as the title says, my mom's P8 Lite has network issues. I have made sure that any application is running/upgrading at the background, or any application/program is being downloaded at the background. The Ping goes from 85(normal) to 260 (that's the high one) and it would not settle. It keeps staying high until the Wi-Fi is turned off.
I checked it while playing games, and also on Speedtest by Ookla. I really need some help with this as I don't know which the problem is.

Alright I have been all over this board and I a have been all over other sites and even on ORB's website itself and I can't figure out what the deal was. Even after searching here I couldn't actually find anyone that had the same issue. So, the issue is I get excessive buffering all the time but only on Wifi, Edge buffers but not nearly as much. I have tried all the little tricks, set the speed down to 64k and even though it looks like crap it still buffers maybe every five seconds. Ideally I would like to use the HTC Streaming app, but it says failed to connected no matter what connection I am using. I can get TCPMP to work, but like I said every five seconds it buffers even after cranking the buffer size up to 5400 K. Windows Media is the same way, just buffers every five seconds. Sometimes it works fine on Edge and sometimes it doesn't I get that it is dependant on signal and all that, what is just irritating me is the Wifi part of it, there isn't any reason it should buffer that much. So if anyone can help I would greatly appriciate it. Thanks
Orb Excessive Buffering
I have the same problem if use the calculated bit rate. Forcing it to 64k works for me using cell signal but only if I have a strong signal. Using wifi, the problem goes away if the rate is set to 320k.
try changing you PCs upload speed, it should solve your problem, also make sure u have clear signal and are not moving. use the auto test on you PC to measure it upload speed
Spent all day messing around with it, after testing it on my notebook with edge and it working perfectly I determined that it has to be my desktop, some piece of rogue software installed or something that was just killing my upload, download, draining my cpu and eating all my memory. I formated and reinstalled XP, and it seems to work fine over Wifi now, edge is still tricky as it depends on signal and all that fun stuff, but at least I can use it when I go away for work on hotel wifi networks.
I'm using Resco Radio to stream live radio, and, while it works fine over hsdpa, I find it buffers every few mins over WLAN.
I have the WLAN set to "best performance", and am approx 75cm from the router - signal isn't an issue. I work in an IT call center so I have tested it with routers there and get the same issue - its the phone not the routers.
I notice that the WLAN symbol at the top of the screen seems to go to "connecting" when this happens, its as though it just drops out intermittently?
Has anyone else experienced similar or is my device possibly faulty?
Thanks!
I am using Wifi all day here in the states (as the phone only supports edge here).
I never had that problem. Wifi is super fast for me.
I did notice though that I think that after I installed NET3.5 Wifi became unstable.
So I removed .NET3.5 and it seems to be working fine and very stable now.
My Wifi setting are "balanced" and I have to admit that with this phone the Wifi power consumption is super low, comparing to other devices.
WiFi working fine here.
I'm using WiFi all day through work's WiFi and at home as well - both WLANs are perfectly stable and super fast here.
I have it set to "balance" for the performance. I'm also amazed how quickly it connects to the WiFi access point when its brought out of 'sleep' mode! MUCH quicker than my Touch Pro!!
FWIW, I have .NET 3.7 installed - no problems at all.
Ok, uninstalled .net...
That didn't help!
However I think I have figured it out, the stupid thing turns wifi off (even though it is in use) when the screen has been off a few seconds, I guess to save power, thereby interrupting my stream!
Now I just need to find a way to force it to stay on, battery be damned!
I like to listen to the radio when I'm going to sleep, so its plugged in to charge overnight anyway, and I turn off wifi when I go out....
have a look at this registry key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms]
there's
HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended"=dword:0
Ok so my Hero is rooted, running Fresh currently. I'm not sure if this is a ROM issue or a phone issue, but I do know it's not a computer issue as it happens on 3 computers in the house.
When I'm tethered, after an unspecified amount of time (anywhere from 30 seconds to hours) the connection 'locks up'. I'm not sure what is actually happening, but I stop getting any data on the computer (Or laptop or netbook) and the data indicator on the phone gets the up arrow (The left one) stuck "on" and the other arrow stuck "off". The only thing that fixes it is to reboot the phone or disable/re-enable mobile network, after which the cycle repeats itself.
It does this whether I am tethered via USB (I use PDAnet) or wifi tether (Wireles Tether for Root users).
It's driving me crazy, because our cable internet shorted out or something and the techs can't come repair the line until next week (This happened last week) so my Hero is my only internet access point.
Anyone know what's going on or how to fix it?
Edit: It seems to happen more when I'm downloading large files...hours of casual browsing of text-based sites don't trigger it as often, but YouTube or downloading podcasts for my classes seem to make it happen more often. This seems relevant, though I'm not sure how.

hey buddy.
i cant answer definitivly, but i have had the same issue with PDANET and EasyTether (not wireless, but i dont use it much) so i hope my crazy theory can help...
this is probably far fetchd, but i hope you can appreciate it all the same. as we know, tmobile stripped down all the tethering apps from the market (not really sure how pdanet or easytether or barnicles survived this) and it started a big war with consumers versus providers, even resulted in a petition app being distributed through the market.
my wild theory is this: even though we're paying for unlimited data, i have a feeling sprint still watches this and throws a cap on at some point. i have no doubt in my mind that they watch these forums and know EXACTLY what we do, and take every precaution to ensure we dont take advantage of it. i think at this point, this late in the game, their easily able to tell when we're surfing phones versus tethering and using "mass amounts of data" (when compared to surfing the phone) and therefor put a quick stopper on their leaky bottle.
any other suggestions? ive just never seen it answered before, and was forced to reach my own conclusion, but hey! maybe some people live off their phones internet and have never had any issues (but how much data have you REALLY used in one session?) so this might just be as crazy as it sounds.
hope i helped!
tether
I tether my phone at the office daily it powers my office network with a speed little under dsl. best way to decribe the speed im getting is that of Dual ISDN. Your problem is definitely a power draw problem, after installing the rom that i wanted and i started tethering, i noticed that my phone will freeze up and the 3g speed will slow down to a crawl, at the time i was powering 6 computers on my tether with internet. to overcome this problem i needed to use the AC adapter that came with the phone to power it and i used a cpu management program (i forgot the name lol) to keep the mhz at 528 when the phone goes into standby that way your phone can handle the packets that are coming in and handle the dispersement of those packets to the computers on the tether while it goes into standby.
after that i never had a problem, like the guy said above, sprint will cap that ass if they see any shanagins goings on. I usually get away with about 4 hours of continious net time before sprint kills my data and i gotta restart the phone or go into airplane mode and come out of it. The data involved amounted to about 2 gigs of data before they booted me.

The exact same thing happens on the Samsung Moment. The workaround we figured out was to use SetCPU to force the CPU down to 266 when tethering. It sounds strange but it worked!
Perhaps this will work on the Hero??
I've had these issues ever since I bought the phone, but basically the data over WiFi just seems inconsistent. When I first connect via WiFi, it seems okay, but then after about 10 minutes or if I open the browser, it will just stop working completely. Sometimes it will work again if I disconnect and reconnect, but usually I just keep it off. I was hoping the official 2.1 update would fix this, but I have the same issues. Any ideas??

I have had problems similar to this with my phone the entire time I've had it. Yes, I discovered the "Always On" setting under wi-fi about two weeks after the phone came out.
I personally believe my phone just has some kind of hardware wi-fi problem, as it doesn't seem to be a common issue. My phone is actually slower on wi-fi than on 3G. I only get about 600 kbps down and 400 kbps up on wi-fi. Also, while running the Speedtest app, my speeds are very sporadic on wi-fi, and the little needle jumps all over the place.
Thanks for the replies! I see the option. The wording is strange though... "specify when to switch from wifi to mobile data" Does that mean it would only use wifi for 15 minutes at a time then switch back to 3G? That is weird... Can't understand why you wouLd want to do that... Battery maybe...
your router. that makes a MASSIVE difference in speed and reliability.
great example, i had a dlink i would get great speeds, 5-10 mbps on speed test. but after 15 min of no use it goes into sleep mode where my phone cant turn it back on so i have to reconnect every time. i sold it
got a newer cisco. i get 69-100 kbps but it doesnt sleep. its all about settings. search the router ip (i.e. 192.168.1.1-linksys) mess with wifi settings. helpsss aloottt
Alright, this is a frustrating issue that I've been having since day 1 with WhatsApp, and it's not even just SGS4, but with my old SGS too.
Problem:
Phone screen turns off while on WIFI, after a while of inactivity, WIFI still seems to run, but WhatsApp lost connection and takes a long time to reconnect, and usually requires a full restart of WIFI.
This does not happen on 3G for me, it only happens when WIFI is active.
Things tried:
- Turn off 3G entirely, so it only runs on WIFI.
- Reinstall WA
- Restart phone.
- Do a clean install of firmware (on my old SGS).
- Test it out on new phone~ (Brand new SGS4 i9505)
I don't know what's causing this, can anyone please help me figure this out? Let me know if you need more info.
is your router set to "always connected" or does it disconnect after sometime if no data comes in?
maybe i'm wrong but if it's only a wifi problem you maybe should look into your router settings.

Already looked into that.
Weird part is that Skype stays connected perfectly fine, but WhatsApp never does.
Please search a bit, this has been answered just a day ago.
