hey all, i am using xt1644 RETUS variant and on version 48 which is stock.. i have been trying to update to 64 version but whenever i try to sideload it.. it gives error of footer wrong and verification failed. My bootloader in locked and of course i am on stock recovery. I haven't messed with the phone at all. I am using the update from here https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/athene/official/RETUS/. I have never owned Moto device before so i have no idea how the update works. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Should i flash using RSDlite?
The zip files you downloaded aren't OTA Updates.
These are full system images for fastboot flashing to restore Stock ROMs on unlocked devices and/or edit them.

I just got the new OTA for Lolipop 5.0.1. I used ADB to pull the URL for the download and downloaded the attached ZIP using my browser. The URL pulled from ADB was an extremely long randomized string of characters that expired the moment my device was done updating. It seems the link is only active during the update process, so the only way to leave the link active longer is to battery pull or something in the middle of the update. I love you guys... but not that much
Keep in mind that this OTA was offered to me on 22.21.16, so I am assuming that you probably need to be on that update before you can use this OTA.
Let me know if you guys have any questions or run into any issues!
I'm rooted and running TWRP on my XT1064 with 22.21.16. Is there a way to just fastboot flash this update? I don't mind losing root. Thanks!
Okay, I had upgraded to 22.21.16 via TWRP using KennyWuLee's packaged tool. This morning I received a notice that I had an update available for 22.21.25. So like a dummy I went ahead and accepted. Now all it does is boot into TWRP. When I restart to system from TWRP it boots up just fine then after about 15 seconds reboots to TWRP.
I assume it is looking for the stock recovery which will then allow me to install the update? So will I be safe to go ahead and reflash the stock recovery, reboot and go from there? Or should I go all the way back to stock everything?
I have an XT1063.
Edit: I went ahead and flashed stock recovery and rebooted. After boot looping several times it rebooted into the system and gave me the message "Software update unsuccessful. There was a problem ....blah, blah, blah." But I still show an update available when I check.
I suspect it is because I am unlocked and rooted, even though I have stock recovery installed. Any thoughts on this guys? I am going to hold fast until I know for sure.
The update failed because you were rooted. You need a 100% stock /system since updates after 5.0 check the integrity of the filesystem before updating.
I may sound like a noob, but just to be sure..
Name of update says ".en.us".
Is it ok to use it for a french moto G 2d generation?
French will be available?
Thanks!!

Not sure if it makes a difference or not. I just put what the build was listed as when I got the update notification.
I put that there in case that was why some people couldn't update from 22.21.6 to 22.21.16

Nice theory, but I am now totally restored back to stock with stock recovery and unrooted. Still no luck with the update. Same thing happens.
I'm still stuck on 22.11.6, so I'm assuming I can't install this update until I'm on 22.21.16?

From what I've seen, that is correct.
Any news XT1068 android 5.0.1 #India?
Moto G 2014 5.0.1
Hello good day friends will have some manual to perform the installation ?? and try it for apply update from ADB and I mark error in sideload package , installation aborted
How do I can install this update?
I am able to flash stock firmware with fastboot, however recovery.img and boot.img always fail with "(bootloader) image signed with key bad key"... doesnt matter if its 139.48-49-64 or the nougat soak test. I have xt1625 US retail, i made sure im using the correct non-amazon US firmware...
It boots up and runs properly, and i can install twrp... however, im unable to install the OTA updates without stock recovery, so im stuck on NPJ25.93-11 instead of 14
anybody have any similar issue?
That error with the boot.img and recovery.img, if I recall, usually shows up - provided after the warning the log says they were flashed okay, then you shouldn't have any problems, as you've experienced.
Yup, you cannot install any OTA updates from Motorola once you've modified your system - you need to be on stock recovery and system. Unlocking your bootloader is okay, but modifying your recovery, kernel, or any other part of your system may stop the OTA from installing. Your possible options are to re-flash the 93-11 update and download the 93-14 OTA if it's available in your region, or fastboot one of the 93-14 ROMs in the Guides section (e.g. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-xt1640-43-athene-npj25-93-t3549369)

When and how did you get the Nougat update for the XT1625? I am on stock and have not received it, nor have I seen any update from Motorola available for it.

Likely fastboot'ed one of the Nougat images in the Guides section; I've not seen any mentions of OTA updates in the US either - Canada and Brazil appear to have received it thus far, hopefully the US isn't far behind!

That would be my guess as well. I don't get why some are so impatient to get Nougat that they risk flashing firmware not intended for their devices. Then they wonder why they are having issues. Oh well!

Please help. I am not able to update the new official 7.1.1 update pakage for moto x play xt 1562..i have installed official recovery still while updating there comes error with robot sign. I even tried to search ota update file after downloading file but couldnt be located anywhere on cache and other places. I searched like an hour. But failed to find. Now m stucked. Please help me with solution. Device - unlocked + supersu. Thank you
I just had my bootloader unlocked but was on complete stock and non rooted I also faced the same error
Is your phone soft bricked without OS?
First of all, go to fastboot and flash the custom recovery twrp for moto x play and then flash the debloated 6.0 marshallo file and reboot. Check XDA site regarding this OS.
After booting you have official OS, then go for nougat update manually or wait for the developer to release a method install it on unlocked bootloader phone.

Even if you flash official recovery, the system status in Bootloader will be 'Modified'. You have to flash stock firmware through fastboot. Only then the system status changes to official. Then you can update the device through OTA
Device is locked. status code 0. software status official. still cant install 7.1.1 , status 7 error, installation aborted. what to do?
how you lock bootloader please details it help many people
I once Hard Bricked my phone. Then when I somehow recovered it and tried to install stock firmware, it went into bootloop, then I used g5 plus software to flash boot.img and it worked but after that I lost my original recovery and I have TWRP recovery instead and I can't update my software because it will hard brick again. I have tried reflashing stock Android (problem remained the same) and I am not sure but I guess I somehow modified my system and that's why I am not able to get my stock recovery back(I tried to flash that but that failed). Please help as I need to update my system because Within months Android O updates will roll out. Thanks.
Fastboot to stock. It's the only true way to get what you want.

I'm not able to. In My Fastboot it says "System status: Modified" instead of system status Official, so any idea how to get Official System status?
fastboot doesn't care about firmware status. if you want to get official, you need to relock your bootloader. There are instructions on how to do so on the forums here.

Depends on what happened to your device when you hard bricked it in the first place and how you recovered from it.
If you recovered using the albus (Moto Z2 Play) blankflash, then I don't think you'll be able to re-flash the stock firmware completely, as you have a different bootloader to what's expected (i.e. Moto Z2 Play bootloader on a G5 Plus). You'd still be able to flash the system and modem side of the firmware, just likely not the GPT or bootloader. Thus, you're likely better off waiting for TWRP flashables of the stock Oreo ROM, which would mean you don't have to worry about your bootloader. Of course, that means you won't be able to take OTA updates again.
What device do you have and what stock firmware were you/are you running on your device? Maybe you're flashing either the wrong firmware or too old firmware for your device.

I have installed the stock firmware on my Moto g5 plus and when I updated it to .67
The phone started to be updating but when the bar fills up then my phone just stucked. Please help me I cannot even go to bootloader or the fast boot. No logo nor any kind of signals are showing but no results please help me
My phone has its bootloader unlocked and ive had customs ROMs in the past - I ended up loosing my IEMI and the EFS files, so I went back to stock and got the IEMI and EFS back.
Iam currently on NPNS25.137-93-4, has any one else had this issue were the OTA update will not work? it will start the update process and ends up with a droid laying down with an error " ! " coming out of it. In addition when I boot my phone the "unlocked bootloader warning" says "ID: bad key" were before it said "ID: N/A" with the lineage ROM - Not sure if it matters. Should I relock my bootloader?
or does anyone have a link for the newest update XT1687 north america?
I am also on NPNS25.137-93-4. I tried installing with adb sideload but installation was aborted. I also tried installing with stock recovery but the my phone can not mount internal or external storage

When I tried unlocking my phone and installing 64-bit TWRP incorrectly, I ran into an issue similar to you. Now, my phone was on an older software version so I was able to fully install a firmware the fixed my device. (It had an 83 in it, can't remember what it was fully.) I'd look for a NPS25.137-93-14 build and flash all the files. That's the latest XT1687 build.

As far as I know there's no 93-14 version available, the last build uploaded is 93-10. There's a 92-14 firmware but that one is for India/Brazil only.
Sent from my Moto G5 Plus using XDA Labs
