Why can't I get vm on my phone. Its a recording of some virgin mobile sprint merger. Wont give me the opption to check it. Think I want to go back to 2.1. Any good stock like hero rom's?
Use google voice (like 90% of the people here) or get the sprint vvm .apk from the cm6 thread
I had the same issue. I assume you are talking about when you press 1?
You have to change the voicemail number from *86 (I think is what it was) to your phone number...I can't remember where the setting was that I found it, but it's there, kind of buried, but there. Check under "Call Settings". It may give you an error the first time you change it (mine did), just do it again and it will work.
I've rooted and installed MoDaCo on my T-Mobiile Galaxy Tablet, and have carrier unlocked it and am using it on AT&T. However, for the life of me I can't figure out how to get AT&T's voicemail working with the tablet, and those who call me are told my voicemail is not set up.
My Google voice number is already connected to a DIFFERENT mobile voice number, and I'd prefer just to use AT&T's voicemail until my contract is up and I switch to another carrier - however, I can't find information on how to do this and forum searches have only turned up messages saying "Use Google Voice," which doesn't actually help to solve my problem.
Can someone please point me in the right direction to figure this out? I'm reasonably tech-saavy but could really use a starting point.
Thanks!
EDIT: I should add that I'm new to dealing w/ Android and that if this is a stupid question, my apologies - I'm still working my way through how things work on the platform.
I dunno the local AT&T voicemail for where you're at but what happens when you dial your own number from teh tab? It should let you check your voicemail and/or set it up.

I managed to get AT&T to help me get through it. They had to reset my voicemail password (which I had already done) and I had to set the voice mailbox up again from scratch. They also asked for my IMEI number, but didn't flinch when I told them it was a Galaxy Tab - I was prepared to cancel my contract if necessary, which may have been the reason for their help as they'd be losing multiple voice & data accounts otherwise.
Thanks though!
Today I've played a little with the native SIP. I found out that the file "android.software.sip.voip" is missing. I pushed this file to etc/permissions, changed permissions to rw-r-r and voila! - after rebooting the missing internet calling part appeard in my dialer settings menu. I managed to set my voip provider credentials and enabled SIP. I called a few numbers and apparentlly got the connection (the called person confirmed it and i can saw it in my voip billing list) but nobody could hear the other one and dialer was frozen. it is not the common SIP issue, i can use CSIPSIMPLE without any problems. I'm attaching the missing file if somebody is interested in further research regarding native voip on moto x.
I tried enable the native SIP settings using a Xposed module. The behavior was the same, SIP account connected, no sound and Phone app frozen.

I wondered where the Internet Calling menu had gone... I've got a Verizon developer edition and figured that Verizon stripped the settings. I may have to give this a try as well to see if I get the same outcome.

You surely get the same outcome. Try it, you've got nothing to loose. You can always get back with just deleting the file. Sadly getting internet settings option is not enough to activate voip. something else is missing. Either there is no voip codec or the whole part is corrupted.
Have you tried the Sipdroid app? I haven't attempted any VoIP stuff yet, just thought I'd ask.

I'm using the Csipsimple now. Works flawlessly. But I belived that native SIP as a part of the Android system might work even better.
Yep, added the xml and got the same results, I can make the call, called person gets the call, but then dialer freezes, have to FC it and there's no sound. It's like the xml file is there to make the setting populate in the dialer's settings menu, but there are other parts missing that handle the audio. Also noticed that the pause, mute, and speakerphone buttons don't "work". Like, you can click them, but they don't do anything.
Just a question, so I can expand my knowledge base.
What is the importance of VOIP on a cell phone?

When I go to another country I use VOIP to all my calls. It is much more cheap.
Some free services (here in Brazil called 0800 calls) don't work with cell phones, but there is no problem with VOIP.
In some forms I need a wired phone number, because they don't accept cell phone numbers. The VOIP number is ok.
My VOIP number is from my local area. So, if I am in USA, Egypt or Japan, anyone from my Brazilian local area can call me with a local call. They pay the same price to call me on the other side of the planet or to call the neighbour across the street.

Say you live in a place with terrible service, not just bad 4G or 3G, but everything bad service. Or perhaps say when you're at work and your building sucks and you get no service... but these places you do have Wi-Fi. For me, this is work; the building sucks, I get no service, but we have Wi-Fi. With VoIP you can place calls via the internet if you don't have service. I can still place and receive calls to my VoIP number on my phone if I have Wi-Fi and have airplane mode on and Wi-Fi enabled. Except the Moto X on Verizon doesn't seem to support it, they want you to use their networks.
When the first couple of users reported their "internet calling" option missing I thought, well, it could be due to some carrier-restrictions since most devices were either att or some other us-carrier. Now I got my moto x unsubsidized and I see no "internet calling" in the dialer options either.
This sucks because I seriously don't see anything else wrong with this phone and not being able to call people abroad for the price of a chewing gum per hour.. bummer.
Does anyone know if the CM dialer has the same restriction?

I read reports on other forums where users experience the same sip symptoms as of Moto X. Considering that I got an idea that KitKat (at least 4.4.) has somehow broken sip functionallity as a system. It seems that is not intentionally deprived, rather reflects a malfunction. I can't find more logical conclusion adding all facts together. I had oportunity to see two different cases where sip/voip was removed from the android system by purpose before: either both xml files (sip and sip/voip) were missing or sip functionallity were stripped from framework-res.apk. Its true that Moto x originally lacks sip/voip xml file, but it permits adding this file. And having this file in dialer enables initiation of call what never occured in any of previous cases I described. Besides the totally same behavior is described on other KitKat phones. In fact I can't remember one single confirmations that sip works on any KiKat phone.
But I don't know how is it on 4.4.2. I'd really appreciate if someone, who has already gotten 4.4.2, checks whether sip works with that upgrade. And before add voip/sip xml I attached in my previos mail if it isn't there yet.

OK, if you're rooted, could you, please, push the attached file (unziped) to the etc/permissions and change permissions to rw-r-r? Then find and set voip in the dialer. Or anybody else, who is interested, could try.

Managed to get SIP working.

I also deleted android.software.sip.xml file (in System\etc\permissions)
Tested with SIPNET.RU, called myself and successfully had a chat with my own voicemail

Excellent! We obviously have working SIP with 4.4.2. Perhaps someone would ask what is the practical benefit of that. If you live between home and office and have a good mobile plan, there isn't any. But if you travel a lot, it might be completely different situation. Calling from anywhere in the world where you have internet connection of any kind for as low as a few of cents per minute is surely an advantage.

I had a similar problem when I used ES File Explorer to copy the files into place. I had to restore my phone from a backup.
It worked better when I copied the files using adb shell commands. I also used the adb shell to make sure the permissions on all of the files were chmod 644. I'm guessing it was the permissions that needed to be set correctly.
I now have Internet calling in the phone app, but I'm having a problem with the microphone. The audio comes through to me OK, but my voice going out is distorted. I'm not sure how to describe it. I sound "warble-y". The distortion affects all calls in the phone app, even those to an echo test number on my local network. There aren't many settings in the phone app, so I'm not sure what else I can do.
Other apps like CSIPSimple and Spare Phone don't have this problem, so I don't think it's my wifi. If it makes a difference, it's a Verizon Developer Edition running 4.4.2.

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience. I have tested it myself and also found few issues:
1. SIP wont work on mobile data connection (on Nexus devices it doesnt matter what you use as data bearer, as long as connection is fast and stable enough). So, no WiFi - no SIP...
2. Once you start SIP call there is no icon or sign showing that this is a SIP call.
As for call quality, I called my mom yesterday and she didn't say it was bad, but I will test it again today and post my findings later.
OK, I can confirm now that SIP voice quality is bad and does sound very strange...
Edit: Perhaps using the word (Re)activate would clear some confusion. I chose to use 'Activate' since I had been unable to get my existing Google Voice account up and running on my Pixel from day one. These were the steps that I personally used, with Verizon as my carrier, to (Re)activate or "jump start" my existing Google Voice account to run on my Pixel. For me personally, this was the only thing that worked. And at the moment it seems to be working for others as well. As mentioned below, the full setup for Verizon may be different, and the full setup and "reactivation" for lack of a better word, is indeed different for other carriers, could be similar, I honestly don't know.
I'm on Verizon, but this should work for any carrier -
1. Go to Google Voice on PC, click the 'Settings' cog/hamburger icon
2. Under the 'Phones Tab' it will say 'Forwards calls to:' you should see your phone's phone number and under that click 'Edit'.
3. Click 'Show Advanced Settings' still under 'Phones Tab'.
4. Scroll down to 'Forwarding Options' and click 'Activate'.
5. Now you should have a pop-up window with instructions to call your GV number. Mine (Verizon) instructs me to add a *71 in front of my GV number -
*71555-555-5555 - then click send and follow the prompts when your phone rings.
6. Enjoy Google Voicemail again.
continued Edit:
In addition to all this, here are some additional steps I had to take in order to get Google Voice to stick. I believe these instructions from this point on are Pixel specific, but please do not quote me on this -
Additional Steps (I took) to get Google Voice up and running on the Pixel (the following steps will be done from your phone)
1. Head to the Phone app, swipe over to Voicemail and approve Visual Voicemail.
2. Then head to GV app and go to Settings and check on Voicemail Display.
3. While still in GV, run through your Sync and Notifications and check what applies to you.
4. Then return to your Phone app (your voicemail may go a little crazy at this point due to syncing, mine does), go to Settings>Calls and turn off Video Calling and Voice Privacy.
5. Then go to your overall phone settings for the phone itself, and tap More>Cellular Network Settings and turn off Advanced Calling.
I think that is everything. If anyone has any additional input at all, that'd be helpful. Come to think of it, a per carrier set of instructions would be nice if anyone would like to help...just throwing this out there, if it already exists, a link would be nice.
Thanks
Each carrier has a different way to setup call forwarding, so your instructions will only work for Verizon. People on other carriers will need to find the proper dialing sequence to forward missed calls properly. I also think there is another number to call to set it up properly on Verizon, so you're missing a step. Finally, this isn't Pixel specific, so it would be better suited in a more general forum, and there is likely another thread that has all this info in it already.

I've been using GV since early 2010, I've used it on all my phones. The Pixel was the first phone I had come across where no matter what I did to try configure it, Verizon VM would hold true, even as far as Google Dialer telling me GV was the voicemail I had chosen, and GV settings was also saying the same. This was Pixel specific and others I had talked to were dealing with the same the thing. Long story short, after several days of trying anything and everything I could think of to get it to work, these were the exact steps I took to make it work and to make it stick. Installing the app didn't work for me, manually configure didn't work, nothing but this worked, and since I noticed a few others dealing with similar issues, I posted this. It doesn't seem to be widespread among all Pixel users, but I knew I wasn't the only one, so if it helps a few people, cool. If it doesn't work, we'll try to figure something else out.
The call forwarding sequence on Verizon isn't Google Voice specific, you could use it to forward to any number.

Please see my response to uicnren as well.
1. This was very Pixel specific for me and the others I had talked to. This was the only phone we had had problems setting up GV on.
2. I should have been more clear, this is for existing accounts, this isn't setting up GV from scratch.
3. These were the exact steps I took.
4. One person I spoke with said he was on Sprint and that the *71 I use for Verizon was indeed a different number, but the same setup nonetheless, I should have been more clear about that.
5. Thanks for input, and in pointing out more clearly that it could be a completely different setup among carriers.
6. And finally, next time something as broad as this could be (again, it wasn't for me, but you make a good point) I will post in a more general area.

That's true, and I agree completely. However I wasn't trying to convey that, I was just pointing out the steps that I personally used, with Verizon as my carrier to (re)activate or simply get GV to work as my voicemail again for the Pixel. And the reason I said it should work for other carriers is because someone using Sprint used essentially the same method, but with a different "beginning" number added to their GV number. I guess my question to you is, should I have pointed out what you said? If so, why?

Thank you!!! Been doing this for about 5 years+
This is nothing new and tells you how to do it on the Google Voice Site!
You can also do it from a PC on the Verizon wireless site. My Verizon has a screen to program call forward for busy no answer.
The full setup for Verizon call forwarding to get Google voice working is to dial
*71 your GV number
*90 your GV number
*92 your GV number
This has been the same issue since at least as far back as the Galaxy Nexus.

I had the Galaxy Nexus and didn't have to do this setup. I've had Google Voice since the HTC Droid Eris, and I can tell you that was not how I initially set mine up, I called one number and done. In fact, in the last almost 7 years I've never used the *71 method one time, aside from maybe the initial setup. For what it's worth, all I had to do was click "manually configure", then back out of the phone app, then it would load me directly into google voice and it would begin syncing everything. And that was it, every phone, every time, for 7 years. The *71 deal was completely new to me.
This worked great! I can now get the phone to translate everything to me without even listening to my voicemail!
Only one issue though, I only receive the translation through text message, hangouts and email... How do I get the translation to come up in the actual voicemail app through google stock dialer?? My voicemail's show up but it doesn't translate them?? any clue?? In settings I have Visual Voice enabled also...

Great, glad it worked for you! Here you go, this should help out some -
Google Voice settings, check voicemail display, then run through your sync and notifications and check what applies to you. Then return to your phone app, go to settings>calls and turn off video calling and voice privacy. GV will not work with these on. Then, go to your overall settings for phone itself, and click more>cellular network settings and turn off Advanced Calling. I think that is everything.

This was all from Google support forums for Google voice originally. Verizon doesn't allow the Google voice app to change the call forwarding settings to automatically set up voicemail, this is just manually changing the same settings.
I've got the numbers saved now so I don't look them up every time I get a new phone.
FYI - Verizon now supports Visual Voicemail on Android 7.1+ for those of you using this as a workaround to get VVM on your Pixel. Functions perfectly with the stock dialer.
I have a US996 and have been on A-O ROM, android version 8.0, for over 1 year. My voicemail notifications worked fine.
I recently reset my phone and went back through setting up Google on it and restoring my apps and all. Now if I miss a call, I have to check to the voicemail by calling *86 since there is no longer any notification sound or notification indication on my phone.
What setting am I missing to get those back?
(No, I never used Verizon's Visual Voicemail or any app like that. And I have not made any changes to my Verizon account recently).

I'm on the US996 using the A-O US996 ROM. I'm not on a Verizon ROM. I'm not after the Visual Voicemail. And I don't see voicemail.apk in the ROM anywhere.
I'm just after the notification when I get a voicemail. Then I can call in the *86. But I don't want to have to guess if I have a voicemail and check it without there being one.

I personally have the visual one installed and when I get a notification for a voice mail, I click on it and it takes me to the visual one, then I listen and delete ect. As for location it might be in the priv-apps in system folder of extracted. I'm also on stock Nougat, but same for RR-pie.
I didn't see the voicemail.apk in the Rom. Perhaps because it's not a Verizon based rom. My phone is the unlocked, not Verizon based.
If I were to find a voicemail.apk, would it work on the non-Verizon like that?

So, coudln't get the "Visual Voicemail" to work.
I don't need it to work. I just need the notification when I get a voicemail. Then I can check it manually.
