Did you make a backup of the stock system image before flashing a custom rom? I haven't tried going back to stock any other way, but I'm fairly certain that the only way to RUU back to stock is if you have a completely stock copy of your system image to restore in TWRP.
Out of curiosity, what issue are you having that require warranty service?
I'm also having trouble finding a guide to this; I've bricked phones in the past, or had issues with reverting to sell that ended up costing me 3 hours of troubleshooting.
Basically I've now found that Android Pay is something that I wish to use again; and with the N update for VZW coming out very soon I might as well go back to full stock with my bootloader locked again now that the main reason I went to s-off/unlocked was for N.
Anyone know where the guide is? If there isn't one, I will outline the steps that I think I need to take, but could use some help to make sure I don't jank it up.
1. Get the RUU from the stock ruu thread.
2. Flash said RUU
3. Factory Reset
4. ???
5. Profit?
As you can see, I'm missing the parts where I re-lock the bootloader, change the tamper flag, fix potential LTE problems (I've read that might be an issue), and whatever else might need to be done to full revert it to legit VZW.
If it matters; I have a (rooted) stock backup from 1.85.605.8 I can flash to make this easier, as I recall having to do that for prior HTC phones (I think).

Just a few questions about the phone before I make the jump. Say I unlock it and put on desire rom and want to go back to sell or want stock can i just flash the original image without computer or do I have to use fast boot? And if I put back like that with stock recovery will I get ota again.
Think I should be able just to flash original shipping rom with bootloader or not?
Is this correct?
Sorry for such a newbie question but this seems different from mytouch and I do not know why instructions for going back to stock are so long. And yes I know I cant re lock bootloader. don't care about that all. Just want to know if I can get ota again.
Basically just want to know if I can flash original from the phone and if i do will I get ota again.
There is no way to recieve OTA updates anymore since you have flashed a custom recovery

yes. put back recovery.img boot.img system.img radio.img by fastboot then you'll be fine.
i've got OTA right away after i flashed the original ERD firmware.
Noob question... If i install clockwork recovery and do a nand backup, will i be able to restore my phone, no matter what i do to it (software-wise) or can i still brick it?
Im new to rooting and mods and im looking for a way out of trouble if i screw things up.
once you are done with the rooting process, and have clockwork installed as your recovery - it is very very difficult to brick your phone.
if you are dealing with the standard roms here - there is almost no way you can really screw up, to a point where you can't just go back to a functioning nandroid backup.
for further security - i copy my nandroids backups to PC, so if the sdcard ever gets toasted or corrupted - I will still have a good recovery image.
From what I hear you gotta do something really really stupid to brick your phone. If anything I think it's the rooting process that can brick your phone since there's no nandroid yet or if you don't do a proper procedure during a rom flash. Unrevoked makes it painless and easy. I suggest running Ubuntu then rooting because I had trouble with windows. Follow the guides and you're set =)
Edit: Here's the guide I used. Very easy and painless. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741824
really the only way i can see you bricking the phone is if you screw up flashing the recovery/radio or boot image.
Ok so if the power goes out when im flashing my phone its lost right? Even if i have my nand backup. And what about the warranty? If i flash back to my original backup and unroot, will anyone be able to tell i've been messing with my phone?
I don't know that "unrooting" is as easy as just removing the superuser app, and flashing back a stock recovery image. The best way to unroot - is to flash an RUU stock image (which includes the stock recovery, and unrooted system image)
you can find the stock at&t RUU from shipped-roms.com under "liberty"

So dumbing this back down to superNoob level, you're saying that I could root my phone and then put it back the way it was later so that AT&T/HTC would be none the wiser?

yes.... you can go back to the un-rooted state at any time.... it is quite easy... i have tested this... it took me about five minutes to un-root my phone with the HTC RUU ... everything was stock with all the dang bloat ware and no root .... i then re-rooted and put a nandroid back up on that i made just before un-rooting...
So basically turning a provider locked phone into the european open D802?
edit: another question:
If i do a nandroid backup of my stock LG rom, is it possible to just do a nandroid back up, install stock recovery and basically "lock" the phone without the hassle of having to go through the longer "unrooting" guide?
thanks in advance!
It should be enough to follow the "back to stock rom" thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476 , this will change the current rom with a stock LG rom using LGs own tools.
Partially no, it flashes based on IMEI region. You want to flash a EUA KDZ. Then disable OTA.
I apologize for the lack of knowledge. Ive flashed all my phones so far sgs 1, nexus 4, galaxy nexus, htc one x and what confuses me about this phone the most is the kdz files.
My phone, for example, is a provider locked d802 - provider being www.a1.net
(Austria)
Now i followed the link you showed me but it only shows me open european d802 and some from germany files fir download. Would it be safe to flash those when reverting to stock considering i have a d802?
If i want to flash my provider's rom, how do i go on to acquiring those files ? Just incase of phone issues and i have to send my ohone in. Would it be as simple as flashing my stock nandroid backup, flashing stock recovery and typing fastboot oem lock in cmd ?
Im sorry for all those questions, while im quite confident i would get it done, i just like to acquire the basic understanding needed before i start anything.
Not to say i dont understand the effort put together by those who made the threads (how to flash/revert to stock etc.) But the threads to a certain degree are limited to just a simple how to when they could maybe use a little bit more detail.
Thanks in advance guys! Looking forward to rooting this thing

If by unlocked, you mean allow you to put any Sim card in it and it work, no I don't think there is a way to make that work. Roms deal with a totally different part of the phone than the carrier lock. If you mean boot loader unlock, that would specific to your phone model and flashing one from a different model could do nasty things to your phone. I would suggest finding the exact forum for your phone model (I.e. at lg g2, international g2 etc).
They should have all the info you need, and to carrier/Sim unlock your your phone to use on various providers- I would Google "Sim unlock *insert phone name here*) and read through til you find a site that will work out.
Edit* I just saw your provider, u "should" have an international version and you should be able to easily bootloader unlock, root and flash the phone. Be sure to read carefully before attempting anything though.

Oh.. So although im provider locked and own a d802 i basically still have the international version and therefor should follow the d802 international guides/should be able to flash d802 roms?? I really apologize if my questions have been stupid so far. Just i am very cautious. Thanks a bunch though.
But can you answer thr nandroid part (in bold text) ? Basically reverting to stock with nandroid backup, flashing stock recovry und locking the phone in fast boot. Is this doable on the g2? Thanks a lot once again appreciate it

If you unlock your boot loader and install a custom recovery like clockwork mod or teamwin recovery you can then make a nandroid of the exact stock ROM to restore back to. Relocking the boot loader is separate but usually fairly easily done. More often than not, the steps to relock the boot loader are laid out in the same thread to unlock it.
Be very careful, most of the time, once you start changing things you NEVER EVER want to accept an ota update from lg until you return EVERYTHING back to stock.
My recommendation would be unlock, install twrp and flash a custom ROM. That way you won't ever be asked to do an lg update, and most custom Roms end up being as stable or more so than the software that came on the device to begin with.
Or to return to total stock easier, most phones have a "factory" image that flashes in Odin or some other similar software meant for that device. It will erase everything, remove root and relock the phone all at once I believe. Just remember to read everything at least twice, and try to totally understand exactly what you are about to do.

Ok, I unlocked bootloader and rooted. No issues at all.
Now, I was curious on relocking the bootloader & load stock rom.
The method that I used to flashed the firmware was the Autoflash, something like that.
Now what I did was extracted all the files within that folder. And click the autoflash, mijiggy. Lol
But I believe the most current firmware was MPH24.49-18
BUT I had MPHS24.49-16 - from what I can recall.
Pretty sure that was the latest on the site.
After flashing the phone, it successfully with any issues. The root is no longer present.
But no matter how many times that I add "fastboot oem lock" which does say okay - finished.
I still get that bootloader is unlocked, after it told me it was finished, no errors....
The other issue is upgrading the software OTA, failed!
As far as the radio part, I hope it still works. I don't have an extra Sprint sim card. But I'm pretty sure it will be ok.
Appreciate your help and time to read my crazy thread..lol

A few problems here... First off, you likely had MPHS24.49-18-16 not just 16 (I don't think there is such a version) and the one your using MPHS24.49-18 is really old, it's the original MM firmware from Moto's website (the one on Moto's site is very old and dated incorrectly). We don't have the 18-16 image yet, so you cannot relock or even effectively fix this.
Also, you used a tool to flash, so when pieces failed to flash, you didn't even know it... And now you are in a mixed state with a ROM that is partially -18 and part 18-16, which is why an OTA won't take.
When you relock a Moto device, you don't just enter "fastboot oem lock" like a Nexus device, there is a process where you start with "fastboot oem lock begin" then flash a complete, signed factory image, wipe, and end with "fastboot oem lock" in one process.
Many parts to this process went wrong... Right now you are just kind of stuck.
BTW, relocking the bootloader has no effective gains except security... You will still be able to see in a glance it was unlocked from the bootloader screen or a fastboot command and the unlocked bootloader warning screen will still be there (you have to flash a custom logo to make it go away).
Did you make a backup of your stock ROM with TWRP prior to rooting? Restoring the backup with TWRP along with stock recovery is usually going to be the simplest and easiest way to go back to full stock.
As acejavelin stated, there really is no benefit to relocking the bootloader except from a security standpoint. As long as the stock ROM and recovery are restored to preroot condition with no system mods, you can take OTAs regardless of bootloader status.

My apologies for giving the incorrect info.
When I had purchased the phone about 3 weeks ago.
I upgraded the latest software update via Sprint OTA.

What would be the best route for me to learn.?
The phone is not going anywhere. It is a backup phone, current have a Note 5. So I might as well take advantage of the opportunity.
Being that I'm mixed with 16 - 18 firmware, should I get the latest MM? Or am I just Fubarred..lol
Now what is the latest MM that I can download? Only because I would like to do an OTA when Nougat comes out.
I guess my goal is to start fresh again which seems impossible for now..
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you again!

I think 18-12 is the latest we have so far, but trying to flash it would not help... Your best bet at this point is either custom ROM or wait until we can get the image for 18-16. The problem here is Moto's don't support downgrading, it can be done but it often leaves you in a mixed state.
You could try flashing the latest version we have available manually (don't use a tool) and it might be close enough to able to OTA from there. You have some though, rumor has it initial surveys for an upgrade on the Pure just went out to MFN users this week, assuming it is the Nougat upgrade trial then once it starts you have 4-6 weeks barring any problems they encounter before public release. Assuming of course that history repeats itself and Lenovo follows the same path as Moto has previously.
So basically I'm saying have patience... We don't know when (or really if) we will get the current firmware image, sometimes it's quick and sometimes it takes months.
Update on my xt1575, that I could not take an OTA, it gave me an error - unsuccessful.
My original software was MPHS24.49-18-16, December update, latest software.
Well, I went ahead unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, then rooted....
Days later I had decided to unroot, so I would be able to take the OTA.
While I unrooted my device, it was successful, but could not take the updates at all.
Now I reflashed again, in this order below.
Autoflash Script with MPHS24.49-18-8.
Reboot the phone, checked if it was unrooted (No root)
Now I went to software update, and the phone did it's upgrade, like last time. Did the update, device rebooted and it was SUCCESSFUL!
I am finally back to the original software MPHS24.49-18-16
Which was December 2016 update.

The title is wrong. It should be "without s-off".
Hello. Is there any way to debrand the phone completley without s-off? I have done it before, by flashing the unlocked ruu on a s-off M8. But I really dont want to pay 25 dollars for each phone ( I have 2 htc 10's to do), especially since I only want to debrand, nothing else. All I want is stock, with unlocked version feel. Plus I keep getting an ID error (I guess a Sprint network ID from trying to connect) that I can not remove. I have looked at custom roms, but they seem to be only 2, and they are really modded. I dont want mods. I prefer stable, and original.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Find the stock unlocked system image file in the non-sprint HTC 10 forum. Flash that and mission accomplished. No S-off needed. Would be interested to know if carrier aggregation works for you after that - is it part of the rom or is it part of radio configuration.

Thanks. I will look it up. By carrirer agregation I am guessing you think I am using it for sprint. I forgot to mention that I am using it on att, I just unlocked the sim-lock.
I see. I did as suggested above and went took my sprint 10 to T-Mobile. Carrier Aggregation, volte, and Wi-Fi calling do not work for me. I then did s-off, changed cid, flashed official T-Mobile RUU, flashed my backed up radio, modemst1, and modemst2 partitions to keep sim unlock intact but those features still wouldn't work. Flashed US unlocked RUU then the partitions above and still no dice. My only benefit I can tell from the S-off is that I can and have successfully taken an OTA and suspect I will always be able to unless a radio update is included. Then I will need to reflash my backed up partitions to be back in business.

Thanks. I have been searching all morning while waiting for the htcdev.com email. I have not found an official unlocked image I can flash. What would it be called on forums? I have found some, but they say you need s-off to flash. And other roms I have found are outdated, or deodexed. I want just clean, no added apps, and original.
If I knew how to link a post I would. Look in the sprint 10 guides subforum. Look for the thread that starts with [stock]. The most recent RUU was on page 198 of the app thread posted by kisakuku on 5/3.
You will need the 2nd link in the post-the 2ps###.zip one. As it is posted it will not work because you are son. You need to unzip and then you will have a rom.img and a boot.img amongst others. Those are the 2 you need to flash to get to stock. You will flash them using twrp. Select the box for Flash image, not flash zip.
Saw your other thread about losing data. You should not lose data by flashing to a new rom.
I have assumed your sprint 10 was already on nougat prior to all this.
Alternatively, you could just enjoy Viper. I only left trying to do whatever I could think of for volte to work and never went back because I was tired of redownloading and setting up apps, etc.
Thanks. I found the post. I didnt know you could extract the images from the zip and manually flash them. I will test it, hopefully it will work without any issues. Right now I am on a stock deodexed US unlocked rom, and everything seems to work, but no OTAs, and what is worse is that for some reason it randomly crashes when just navigating the homescreen, and reboots.
