Unlocked bootloader and ota questions - Nexus One General

Just a few questions about the phone before I make the jump. Say I unlock it and put on desire rom and want to go back to sell or want stock can i just flash the original image without computer or do I have to use fast boot? And if I put back like that with stock recovery will I get ota again.
Think I should be able just to flash original shipping rom with bootloader or not?
Is this correct?
Sorry for such a newbie question but this seems different from mytouch and I do not know why instructions for going back to stock are so long. And yes I know I cant re lock bootloader. don't care about that all. Just want to know if I can get ota again.
Basically just want to know if I can flash original from the phone and if i do will I get ota again.

There is no way to recieve OTA updates anymore since you have flashed a custom recovery

yes. put back recovery.img boot.img system.img radio.img by fastboot then you'll be fine.
i've got OTA right away after i flashed the original ERD firmware.

unrooting?..

I know relocking hasn't been figured out yet, but is there a way to unroot?
I'm not 100% sure, but wouldn't flashing a stock rom unroot you?
don't think there's any original software around...
in the same section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614057
its the post with the long weird name hah
So if this is flashed ill be unrooted and be able to get ota updates if one is sent out
I'm not entirely sure.. but when I used my g1 and flashed a stock image i lost root and could receive OTA. Soo I would expect it to be the same here
I'm just paranoid damn 2.2+ is going to be released and I'm going to be stock with 2.1 just rooted
That's the beauty of rooting. Heck if history is repeated then the Nexus One will have rooted 2.2 before its even officially announced
True strike!!!
thats not a rom.. it cant be just flashed...
There are multiple img files in that zip. do I flash all to restore to factory default and get OTA?
Do I flash this rom the same way I would do all others? Sd card, Wipe, Choose zip, reboot, or is there something I'm missing here?
According to icon57, you just do a recovery->flash zip to flash this ROM.
But he also says that this will not unroot and restore OTA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614057&page=2
Btw, I'm referring to the ROM linked by melterx12 in the previous page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614057
I have not confirmed this.
yep....once you have rooted the phone, there is no going back...at this time...
what about warranty?
the one what I concerned about rooting is warranty.
can it be warrantied even though that unrooted with original rom?

Reverting Back to Stock

I'm on ken's Gingerbread ROM currently and would simply like to take the phone back to 100% stock (sans rooting). I've read and read everywhere about the risks of hard-bricking it if you go back to stock the wrong way. Ok, I understand that part, but how do you go about it the right way so it doesn't get bricked?
I like some aspects of using a custom ROM, but I hate the fact they're unstable no matter what. Every time my phone looses the signal cause of a bad spot inside a building, it stays that way until I manually either restart it or go in flight mode and out. You can just imagine how often that happens on a given day without me noticing it and how no can can get a hold of me except via Viber if I have a Wifi signal.
Help.
You didn't back up your image before flashing a new rom?
I voided my warranty.
No, sadly I didn't.
Download ronaldo_9 r-9 rom v5. Its stable and stock. Has a few enhancements. I've hardly had any problems with it.
I voided my warranty.
Trying it out, so far so good. Had to re-flash with stock fonts, didn't care for the ones included in the ROM.
You could fruit cake back to stock if you want true moto stock.

I don't believe that will relock the bootloader to stock.
FYI, fruit caking back will not be enough to send the phone back for warranty repair.

You cannot relock the bootloader once you have unlocked it. It's a hardware lock. Once unlocked, always unlocked!
Is it possible to flash the recovery partition to remove Android Recovery (CWM)? I cannot find a stock image anywhere. Flashing an SBF removes CWM but the option still exists in the boot menu. I know this will not re-lock the BL but I am trying to get the recovery partition back to stock.

I started my out-of-the-box Atrix and "Android Recovery" was in the boot menu. I was under the impression this option was added by CWM but that is not correct. Flashing the stock SBF (1FF-olympus-user-2.3.4-4.5.91-110625-release-keys-signed-ATT-US-GAS_NA_OLPSGBATTSPE_P011.sbf since I was on GB) did take the boot menu back to stock and well as relock the bootloader - or at least removed "UNLOCKED" from the menu. I did not check if the BL was actually still locked or not. The BL is probably still unlocked but when the phone boots it appears to be stock.

Your bootloader is still unlocked. You have just removed the word "unlocked" from the boot logo screen.

[Q] Accidentally wiped my nandroid

I'm almost too embarrassed to post this question, but... I accidentally formatted my data partition and as a result, deleted my nandroid back up of my stock ROM. I'm on a SG4 i337 with the MDL boot loader. I have no intention of taking the phone back to AT&T for service or anything like that, but in the off chance that I may want to sell the phone, or simply go back to stock, what are my options? Obviously I don't want to update my bootloader, so is there a stock image that I can flash that will allow me to keep my current bootloader?
Thanks,
Mike

Go to Sammobile and get the MDL firmware. Flash it through Odin. If you don't know what I am talking about, make sure you do some research and reading before you do it.

Thanks again,

No it won't but you're going to want to keep WiFi off until you can freeze the att update app because it's going to want to up date you. Root and put a custom recovery and rom on as soon as you can. Make sure you plan ahead on this before flashing the firmware.

Verizon HTC 10 Back To Stock

Can anybody help?I am S Off. Unlocked. Rooted. I am currently on Nu Sense Rom. Need to get back to stock for warranty purposes. I try flashing the Verizon zip and get mismatch issues. 7 RU CID FAIL. Thanks for your help.

Did you make a backup of the stock system image before flashing a custom rom? I haven't tried going back to stock any other way, but I'm fairly certain that the only way to RUU back to stock is if you have a completely stock copy of your system image to restore in TWRP.
Out of curiosity, what issue are you having that require warranty service?
I'm also having trouble finding a guide to this; I've bricked phones in the past, or had issues with reverting to sell that ended up costing me 3 hours of troubleshooting.
Basically I've now found that Android Pay is something that I wish to use again; and with the N update for VZW coming out very soon I might as well go back to full stock with my bootloader locked again now that the main reason I went to s-off/unlocked was for N.
Anyone know where the guide is? If there isn't one, I will outline the steps that I think I need to take, but could use some help to make sure I don't jank it up.
1. Get the RUU from the stock ruu thread.
2. Flash said RUU
3. Factory Reset
4. ???
5. Profit?
As you can see, I'm missing the parts where I re-lock the bootloader, change the tamper flag, fix potential LTE problems (I've read that might be an issue), and whatever else might need to be done to full revert it to legit VZW.
If it matters; I have a (rooted) stock backup from 1.85.605.8 I can flash to make this easier, as I recall having to do that for prior HTC phones (I think).

NO OEM unlocking with S off

I just bought a new Verizon HTC 10 that is S off. The bootloader is locked and I don't have an option to check the OEM unlocking, just isn't there.
download mode
*** LOCKED***
htc_pmewl PVT S-OFF
CID-VZW_001
Any idea on how I can get the OEM unlocking to show so I can unlock the bootloader?
The only thing I am not sure of is that there is no simm card yet. Do I need to have my simm card in to get the OEM unlocking to appear.

If its S-off already there is no need for the bootloader to be unlocked.
Thanks
Thanks for the help the reason I ask is because I thought I read that the bootloader has to be unlocked in order to root and install a custom rom. I've done this before but always started from a factory phone so getting one s off already is new to me.

The 10 is a little different.
Locked and unlocked work basically the same, and it's my understanding it's suggested to be S-OFF locked from Sunshine crew.
I've been S-OFF locked since release of vzw S-OFF and everything works perfectly.
Hope this helps a little.
Just doesn't work
I have been trying for hours to get it to accept Supersu but it just doesn't. I flashed TWRP and when I try to flash Supersu it goes through the motions and says everything is OK but my phone never gets rooted. I was thinking of trying fastboot OEM unlock. I don't know how they achieved S off and read that may have something to do with it. I wanted to flash the new Venom ROM but maybe I will have to stick with TWRP and the stock ROM if I can't get it figured out. Thanks for your help so far I do appreciate it.

I would leave the phone locked.
If you plan on flashing Venom, and you have already flashed twrp, there really is no need to root the current rom. Just make a backup of it in twrp (just in case) and flash Venom. Just make sure you select the correct firmware that matches the phones firmware in the aroma installer.
OK will give that a shot tomorrow thanks
If you're S-OFF. You shouldn't have any issues flashing the latest N firmware for your device, latest TWRP, and then latest N ViperROM. And since Viper comes pre-rooted, you will only need flash ViperROM.
Get a hold if you need some help, I'll do my best to assist.
Andy Bones in May I was asking you about flashing the Viper rom then got sidetracked. Now I would like to do it. I have an HTC 10 I bought that was already S off and locked. I installed TWRP 3.1.0.1 and my firmware is 6.0.1. I tried to flash Viper 10_5.9.0. I use the 6.0.1 button when asked which firmware I want to flash to although the 7. is already checked. Everything installs OK as far as the info page goes but when trying to restart the HTC start screen comes up and the phone just hangs. Reflashed backup and the phone is back to how I got it now. If you can tell me what I am doing wrong that would be great thanks.

My HTC 10 is S-OFF Locked bootloader, this is what Sunshine crew suggests, and works the same (on the 10, previous devices are different) as unlocked bootloader.
It seems you are in a simple bootloop. Would need recovery log to see more, and Viper devs would be able to understand their stuff better than myself.
I do have suggestion as to what I would do.
You are on 6.0.1, you should update to the latest Nougat 2.41.605.18. Either by flashing the firmware, or flashing the RUU. Read up on encryption with Nougat.
Everything you said you did sounds correct to me. And as are as selecting the correct firmware in Aroma, that is for the fingerprint to work, and can easily be fixed if you accidentally select N instead of MM.
I hope this helps in some way.
