Does anyone know how to activate the quad DAC in CyanogenMod? My high impedance headphones are way too quiet

Pretty sure this is exclusive to the lg stock firmware

I wonder how hard it would be to rip it out and make it a flashable zip

If not, what DAC do we have?
I should imagine so following suite to the nexus 4 and Galaxy SIII

good music quality.
Music quality is on par with SGS3. I.e. really good! Impressed of the speakers as well (do not expect any bass though).

International SGS3 also has a Wolfson DAC. Usually, if you see "Wolfson DAC" you can expect quality to follow.
For those that sound quality through earphones is very important

Does anybody know which DAC comes with the S5? Is it a Wolfson?

If the SOC is Qualcomm, the answer is no.
The traditional question is whether the Exynos and Snapdragon versions will use different DACs and, if so, which ones.
Will we ever see the fruits of the deal that Samsung signed with Wolfson?
Exynos is pretty much guaranteed to carry Wolfson. Qualcomm uses their own DAC in their soc's. If it's anything like the s4 Qualcomm vs Exynos situation then they should both be excellent. Most audiophiles hardly hear a difference between the two. The real advantage of Wolfson comes with audio mods

With the S5 being water resistant, I wonder if it will effect the loud speaker? Will it make it sound more muffled?

You bring up a good point and this too is one my concerns, based on every other water resistant device released, loud speaker quality and loudness has been s***. With the HTC M8 releasing with supposedly upgraded BoomSound, it would be counterintuitive for Samsung to further themselves from the quality of HTC's speakers just to provide water resistance.

It seems like Samsung could do themselves and us a favor and make the Exynos compatible with USA LTE carriers and give us all the Wolfson DAC.
The S5 will not feature the best sound repoduction available for music, thats pretty sure, but I'm primarily interested in listening through headphones in which case the choice of which headphone to use contributes to like 95% of the sound quality obtained.
The Qualcomm chipset will have reasonably low noise and distorsion and ok ability to drive phones, its no Wolfson, but it wont exactly cripple a pair of good cans. Not so good cans will always sound inferior on ANY phone. And all the rivals use Qualcomm as well so S5 will only be worse than it's own kin and Iphone. HTCs Beats I can totally live without as I am all in for natural sound ie HiFi ie no coloring of the source. Beats is ALL coloring the source, some like it but I don't.
Rooting will probably be necessary though, to unlock the max volume restriction.
I would have liked a dedicated solution, but I can live with the SOC ....

If it's as good as the speaker on the S4 active then it should be fine as that's pretty loud

Since the S4 Active was never released in Canada, I have never had a chance to try it out. How does the speaker compare to the regular S4?

Well, that's good to hear, I know my dad's Z1 speaker sounds like absolute garbage when compared to the S4.

Fingers crossed the s5 is as good
I tried a Galaxy S5 for four days.
Sound quality trough earphones is worse, by far, than it is with the S3 plus Boeffla.
Returned.

Is apt-x confirmed at least?
I use my sennheiser apt-x headphones or hs3000 in the main with my s3 so that circumvents the problem a little
I have seen that with normal earphones below 50ohms even though quad dac is activated it is on NORMAL mode . Somehow earphone of above 50ohms is needed to activate the HIGH IMPEDANCE Quad DAC mode . Unfortunately those earphone are pretty expensive.
Is there anyway to FAKE the signals of Normal earphone as high impedance earphone ?
Attached pic below
Soundmagic ES-50
and
Sony MDR 510-AS
both are 50+ ohms earphones that I found good and cheapest which can activate quad dac . Any more suggestions please welcomed at the most

How was the sound output in earphones after using that adaptor ? Was it good or harsh ? Your valuable feedback is expected

I would suggest, order one and try it yourself. The price is worth it, I think
Would like your opinion and experience with this.
I don't know why but my Canadian Freedom Mobile has no high impedance mode and I tried it with two headphones that worked with my V20 that got stolen.
This is a theft insurance replacement that cost me a $300 deductible and I'm no disappointed. Smaller screen, no Quad DAC it seems or it's not working.
I Googled how to enable it, so such setting in Sound And notification or Sound itself.
I'm really upset.

But ebay LG G5 HIFI module very cheap and very good stuff.Better than v20 Clearer an wider sound stage.
this worked worked partially
I have zapped my Audio techinca ATH-M20x 47 ohm which has activated the high impedence mode need to do a few times to get it activated
but the trick has not worked with my DT 880 32 ohm
I have got myself a v20 just 1 week ago.It is the h910 at&t version.I heared lot about the quad dac which makes your musics sounds great. But in my phone after plugging in my earphones, turning on or off the quad dac feature doesn't give any difference.I have seen in some youtube videos that the quad dac usually gives you a more louder sound than the normal mode.In my case sound is loud and crisp and i have no complain about that. But turning on or off quad dac feature i can't hear any difference.I am using the cheap white lg headphones(not b&o) that they have provided with the box.what might be the problem??

I have the B&O headphones. I'm kinda with you that I don't hear any difference either. Then I put my HiFi files and yeah, that's when the difference seems to kick in.

You aren't going to notice any difference with the cheap headphones that are included with the phone. I wasn't even aware that the quad dac would work with those things.
Plug your phone into a good amp, or try a pair of (at least mid-range) headphones, and you will notice a difference.

Excuse the analogy but what you're effectively doing is the equivalent of sticking a set of Pirelli P-Zero tires on a Lada and then wondering why driving dynamics haven't changed much. Your cheap earphones are the bottleneck.
