A new AT&T software update pending... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

I just setup my AT&T s7 edge today. All has been great for the past 6 hours. Now my sm-g935a just downloaded a new at&t software update.
Anyone have this same update today or get this installed yet? Do we know what it includes? I will dig around for more details myself, maybe my phone was behind in updates.
UPDATE/EDIT: I think for me it might be a security patch. Noticing I am Android security patch level Sept 1, 2016. Is this the current?

Current AT&T patch for S7e is 11/01/2016. I checked last week and there was no update for Dec.

Good luck getting it to go through, I had to go to at&t online and have them force push the update earlier this week, then the touch on the phone went out and couldn't use certain parts of the keyboard. Replacement phone I got, they can't even get the update to force over.

And you still aren't up to date. There's an APK1 update from November that won't go through unless you call or chat with them. I gave up trying to get rid of it; the first S7 Edge I got on Christmas Eve, updated it to APK1 and rooted it, crashed 5 times in 10 days, then the touch sensor on the lower right went out. Then, tried to update to the October software, rooted, crashed, reset and Odined the September software, rooted, fine.

Why is it not allowed through or I'm not seeing it?

I have APK1, just got the phone today. I can root on APK1 right? Been searching for a few hours now and haven't found a definitive answer. If you could point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I considered rooting to uninstall all the junk ware. It seems though it can be somewhat risky. Plus it seems to give some buggy results and given the s7 is not perfect in any way, I'm personally settled to just leave it the way it is. Was hoping that update I saw last night was a prelude to a nougat upgrade.

I just came from the Note 7... Well I still have it... Anyway I don't mind buggy processes and or Idc about tripping Knox either lol. This phone is gonna be my play phone till the Note 8 comes out :cyclops:

Use package disabler pro to freeze junk. Doesn't free up space but stops them from running.

Disable OTA

Is there a non-root way to disable OTA updates on this thing? I don't want any ATT patches before djbliss releases his bootloader hack...

Best way to avoid it is not to update when there is one. All my phones that had OTA's never updated unless I told it to upgrade.
I was looking for this info also...I have seen on other phones freezing a couple things in TiBU, but wanted to be sure what the S4 procedure was.
I believe current gen phones force the update...at least that's how my optimus G was..it would notify you of the update and then you could decline it three times before it went into a countdown timer and automatically attempted to install it.

I ignored the notification for a day or so and it applied it overnight without me pushing anything. I woke up in the morning and there was a notification that an update had been applied.
Right in the middle of my battery use experiment too.

The AT&T update forced it's way in overnight when I got it and postponed it and now I don't have root anymore.
I just saw a Samsung Update Push! Anyone see that just now?

Force OTA?

Two of my friends recently picked up a Nexus 6p after messing around with mine and my wife's. They haven't received any updates in the two weeks they've had them and the devices came with the January security update.
Neither of these two will be unlocking bootloaders or flashing custom roms, one is local and the other one is on the East Coast. So let's leave the comments about doing it manually out of here, I'm just interested in figuring out how to force the download of the actual over the air update.
Verizon if it matters.
I forgot to mention, I have been searching but the search function on the latest version of Tapatalk is completely useless.
The only way to force it is by doing it manually. You don't have to unlock the bootloader though. It can be achieved by using adb to sideload the zip with the stock recovery. This is probably more work than you want to get into but it's the only way I know of. I have instructions in section 12 of my guide:

No idea. Same thing is happening to my girlfriend's new 6P. She is stuck on the January patch and I have been refreshing it multiple times; nothing. Hopefully it comes within the next few days.

I think I've read somewhere that it's an issue with the device syncing with the Google servers. A factory reset might help it along, that would wipe the phone though.
The February update has finally pushed to my handset today. Hopefully if I install, the March update will follow.

I was having the same issue. I downloaded the ota's and then rebooted my phone and I suddenly had the prompt to update to the February and then the March update. It's a bit too much of a coincidence to not be because of downloading the ota's so give it a try.

Unbrick Verizon Note 7 (No matter How Bad)

Hey guys,
I created an account here just to share this fix with you all.
To start, Tuesday morning, I decided to update the note 7 (to the firmware that changes battery color if your device is safe). After finding that my battery is still white, I contacted my Verizon Rep and ordered a replacement. Since the phone should have arrived the very next day (corporate account) I decided to flash my phone using the root methods in this forum... BIG mistake. If anyone can confirm that after updating the note, root is successful, then please share. But in the end what I was left with was a note 7 that wouldn't even accept the verizon firmware flashed through Odin. Smartswitch didn't work either (wouldn't accept my serial) so i was pretty much SOL and out of a phone... Until today.
After one last attempt to fix this as I wait for my replacement to arrive, I was searching on the verizon forums and found an old post from the galaxy s5 on their forum. I downloaded the repair assistant from here * verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-80201/#windows * and put my phone in download mode. After connecting it and selecting REPAIR in the verizon software, the program downloaded the latest firmware and brought my phone right back to factory settings working as good as new. This was the only method that I found to work after several days of frustration.
I hope this helps someone out there. Thank you for reading!
i assume the only option was the most recent firmware?

Correct. The software goes to Verizons servers and downloads the latest firmware. So the annoying "power down now!" pop ups still show when the device is plugged in but it will be replaced soon anyway At least I have a functional phone in case of an emergency until the replacement arrives.
dude you save my life..same exact thing happen to me,but I had already updated my new note with the green battery and when I tried to flash the sprint firmware it failed and brick my phone..i decided to do the update cause people where saying that it did work with the new phone. but i guess i should of waited and not apply the new update.oh well
Glad to hear I helped somebody! Maybe I'll learn to live without root for a little while lol. The phone is still awesome

Okay, this worked for me, so I'm paying it forward because you guys have been tremendously amazing!!
SO, like many people with the PHE Verizon Note 7 , I received the 60% update and unknowingly installed it. Was very unhappy and tried to root my device not knowing that it would semi-brick it. Used the verizon software assistant to repair it and it erased and restored my device back to the point where it prompted me to install the update again. Downloaded package disabler pro apk version 6.3 and turned off auto update in the play store. MANUALLY entered in two file names which I will post below this and.. VOILA!!!! NO MORE UPDATE MESSAGE... EVER!!! This works only for VZW Note 7 as far as I know.
I disabled these two: com.samsung.sdm and com.sec.android.soagent since we are talking about Verizon here. They do vary by carrier.
First one gets rid of the message icon in the notification bar. Second one I guess stops it from coming back. Hope this helps someone!!
THANK YOU!!
You saved me from having to downgrade to an inferior phone. THANK YOU!!!
My wife (whose Note 7 was not rooted) accidentally did the upgrade from PH1 to PHE. Do you supposed we could plug her phone in and use this software to get it to revert back to the stock PH1 firmware? I'm trying to figure out how we can get her phone back to stock, if at all possible.

No. Not possible.
She is stuck on STOCK PHE.. block updates so she doesnt get bumped to the next STOCK upgrade at 60% battery
Hmmm. She now has the update where she's limited to 60% battery. Can't she do like Tmunroe1 above, try and root and use the Verizon software to revert it back? Seems like that would replicate exactly what he did, and ultimately end up back at stock like we want, yeah?
EDIT: Let me clarify. She does not care about root. She just wants her 100% battery back, so I'm interested in knowing if we can plug her phone in and utilize the Verizon Repair Assistant to revert it back to PHE w/ 100% battery.
Possibly

That worked for me. Yeah, I attempted root and bricked it unknowingly (I've rooted phones before but didn't adequately research the versions that wouldn't work. I was rooting for the express purpose of blocking the 60% limitation). But when the Verizon/Samsung repair software went in, it put me back to the version prior to the 60% update. I'm now able to charge to 100% and have blocked further updates using methods described above. Unfortunately, we likely don't have any way of knowing what version the repair tool will put on the phone, as they may or may not have remembered to update it by now. The version the recovery software put on my phone is N930VVRS2APHE. I hope this helps.

New LG v20 wont download update.

I'm on Wi-Fi and fully charged. It says there is an update and that i can download it on Wi-Fi. But there's no way to make it start the download and it's not prompting me. Any tips?
EDIT: Nevermind.... I realized it is just easier to fool the phone by changing the time. Apparently LG does not understand what the words "any time" mean. Stupid idiotic that it will only update after 11pm. But I have the update now by tricking the phone.
What sort of black magic is this?!
LOL, good to know for others who might be stuck in the same boat.

It was on a 2016 firmware, unfortunately I don't remember (terrible I know)... I have T-Mobile and it's completely stock currently. I may have to root in the future to debloat since all of the bloat has the "disable" button greyed out.
Seems resolved now that I changed the time to trick it to update.

Bull****. T-Mobile updated the version number page for the Note 8 with today's date, yet NOT A SINGLE PERSON has verified receipt of PIE on the T-Mobile forum, Reddit, or here. I doubt they've even started pushing it yet.
According to Des, the Twitter PR guy, it'll get pushed as early as today and if not, Monday. They are updating the page and preparing to push. It was certified by Tmobile today.

Cool. Thanks. Nothing like announcing something on a Friday and then making people wait until Monday for it. CRUEL. That's like waiting for UPS to deliver a package to you on a Friday that you can't wait to have, and then being told there was a delay and since they don't deliver on Sat or Sun, you've gotta wait till Monday. That's the worst.
Just got mine by checking
My OTA is literally downloading right now. FINALLY!!!!!
Does anyone have N950USQU5DSC1_N950UOYN5DSC1_TMB.ZIP already downloaded on a faster
Got it at 12:01 am last night, so far I've noticed just a lot of visual changes, the clock is moved to the top left corner, and we get more options for the always on display. We finally get Bixby remapping, and it works really well. The Camera mode selections got simplified, and we even get Dolby Atmos support, Idk if anyone else reads the changelog, but apparently we dont need the Dock anymore for DeX support the Pie update allows us to use the way cheaper cable options. Overall it does kinda feel like a slight performance improvement, but let's be honest the Note 8 wasnt ever a slow phone. How is everyone enjoying Pie?
Have a T-Mo Note 8, checked Samsung Smart Switch this morning and have a 4GB update waiting. Anyone know where Smart Switch stores downloaded content? If I can find the update on my PC I'll be glad to share it.
I got mine this morning by manually checking at 8:30
Anyone know if I will have to wait longer to get the update since I have the unlocked model?
I used the app from play store samsung update checker and it took me right to the download. Downloaded full firmware in 28 minutes. 1000 times better than crappy Sammobile. Sammobile is absolute trash.
Use the Good Lock app to move the clock where you want (Left, middle, right).
Good Lock is a great companion app for Pie.
