I haven't got the OTA update as of now wonder if it is me or other people haven't received the OTA update as well
Haven't seen it and I think a lot of us are in the same 'waiting' boat
I'll give it another day or I'll just do it manually...
i havent yet but im not to concerned, it did say untill the end of the week some people may not get the OTA update. gotta be patient, its hard tho lol.
It's rolling out in batches guys... like thisguy10 said... no need to be concerned. You'll get it eventually.
Well i am glad to know i am not the only one who is waiting
I got tired of waiting and did it manually like 10 minutes ago its very easy to do.
p.s. on unrooted n1
Hope this helps, updating without root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627533
Can anyone verify if being on wifi would impede getting the update notification?

I wonder what factors prioritize whose phone for the update? I'm located in Asia, not in one of the four countries Google'll ship to even, and I got my update really fast. So it can't be geographic-based.

seriously i just did this earlier and it took 5 minutes tops? its easy to do and you dont have to wait around for the nice new features
I haven't got anything. I'm just wondering if its an email notification, text message, whatever, and how the order of rollout is deduced.
It's a system pop-up. You can also do the "About phone -> Check for system updates" to find it.

Could this be because you, as I have, have unlocked the bootloader?
Will we get the OTA update when the bootloader is unlocked (unlock symbol showing when booting)?

Seems to me that on factory images you would still get the OTA updates. In my experience, I've always been prompted before updating.
However, on Tmobile in the Cleveland area, not OTA yet.
didn't get OTA. saw update available through diff ref to engadget, immediately came here, found file, installed.

I got impatient and got a link off Amon_RA's twitter for the ota update, downloaded, renamed to update.zip, installed update through the stock bootloader (all on my phone i might add)
I still haven't rooted my phone, making sure there's no flaws before I do. The native multi-touch is pretty flawless. Seems to take care of some signal loss and the constant missing of the bottom menu buttons. (or maybe that's just my imagination)
i havent got the update yet and my phone isnt rooted...

Hey all,
Quick question. Does anyone know how often or how our phones query the server for update checks? Is the software first downloaded before asking us if we want to upgrade? Does the sync icon light up while it is downloading? Does our battery charge need to over x to before the software either downloads and/or notify us?
I'm curious as to how the entire process works.
Thanks.

I have an Evo, but I follow the tech news. Software updates are released in waves so that if there are issues with an update, they are isolated and they can stop sending them out. Essentially, the first wave are the guinea pigs. I'm not sure how they decide who gets them, but I'm pretty sure it's random. You will be notified on your own when you can grab the update. It starts on the 21st and everyone should have the update by the 25th. Of course, you can probably just find the update online once it's out and do it yourself:

When the update is available to your phone, it will download it silently in the background. Once the download is complete, you will get a notification that an update is ready to install. As long as you have enough battery left, you will have the option to install it. Otherwise you will be prompted to plug into your charger.
As far as the frequency your phone checks for updates, I'm not sure other than at boot time.
Sent from an Epic I haven't bricked yet.
Also, I believe the updates are 'pushed', which is to say, Sprint contacts your phone directly not vice versa.
Given how infrequent updates are, having your phone poll for them would be a wasted process.
Our phones already poll for app updates through the market and the update is hosted on googles servers.
I don't think it is too far fetched that our phones are notified somehow through this process?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It would make sense, with the 'wave' method mentioned above, that it's just pushed. Thats the fun! Back when I used to odin to D*27 to let it OTA DI18, it would happen really randomly, anywhere from instant to half an hour... never waited longer though, as its open to request, I just 'check for updates' of it was taking too long. Either way, unless you are one of the first wave, I would wait for XDA's Devs to look over the one from the first wave, and then DL their update... Im sure they will get one from the first wave... I will probly Odin to DI18 tomorrow night and wait, just for fun, as I do agree there is an attraction to that, kind of like when you get a surprise PS3 update that gives you some new unlocked functionality... reminds you why you bought it... course with this phone, we would feel that way if it were more timely, but hey, theres the future...

My phone doesn't poll for market updates, i'm only notified if I actually open market.
Besides, this is from sprint, not from market.

I'm not so sure, as I remember when receiving the ota for di07 and di18 the download was slow so I turned on WiFi, at which point the dl stopped all together.

I don't believe they would do it that way. A vast majority of users are on the latest while there is probably a minority who didn't update past DI07. They get the latest first and then get the stragglers in the later days.

A software update to EB13 (Froyo) is available for the Samsung Epic 4G via Google OTA. Customers will become eligible for the
upgrade across a 4-day period based on their status with the Google servers. 67% of users are currently on SW DI18 so the first
OTA package we will publish will be an upgrade from DI18 – Froyo (DL11). We will be publishing hop upgrades from DG27 – Froyo
and DI07 – Froyo as soon as possible following the initial release
OTA Duration time is dependent on current device usage: 10 – 25 minutes, with installation time of 6-8 minutes
from the leaked .pdf from the first day, after the screenshots. thanks to whoever leaked it! DI18 is priority, you cant really sit on the older versions, I think those 'hop updates' are for old stock sitting around with the old versions waiting to be activated. Oh and the DL11 is a typo, they just cut and pasted from a previous release most likely...

That happens on any download. Switching connections in the middle of a download stops it. Ive done this before. If you start on 3g, you'll have to finish on 3g, or restart on Wifi/4g

maybe it will be automatically updated with a script when they start the ota's. idk, just a guess.
UPDATE PROCESS: The software update will be delivered as a wireless download (over-the-air, or OTA) in waves starting on February 21. All Samsung Epic 4G owners should have access to the download by the end of the week (Feb. 25).
Once your Epic is in the queue and eligible to download the update, a message will be pushed to your device saying that a software update is available. If you are not yet in the queue and you attempt to check for a software update manually, you will receive a message saying “no upgrade is available”. This simply means your device isn’t in the current wave of updates.
All customers should have access to the update by the end of the week (Feb. 25).
just got this off sprint site.... so phones dont check... pushed, and you cannot even manually trigger it... I even Odin'd to DI18 a bit ago, to see if I could trigger it activating DI18... no dice. OK... whos in wave 1... cough it up!
Whosdaman,
Just curious, can I ask why contact you first? Are you aware of something I haven't read?
I'm rooted and rommed, but watching hubby's unrooted (won't let me touch or mess and screw up his!! Doesn't believe me I can fix whatever I break!!) Epic.
Really do appreciate someone looking out for everyone. I am going to hold on his until I see some positive results, because I can't fix what Sprint breaks!!
Can someone please tell me how to go about updating my Xoom.
www.motorola.com/myxoom does not explain ****
i know this is probably a really stupid question, and i'm sure i'll get comments telling me to do research before posting.
but i did look for awhile, and from what i gather, a notification should have popped up on my xoom.
but one did not.
so how do i update the dang thing?
You wait, leave it connected to the internet (WiFi or 3g), it will eventually download and prompt you to install.
I just got mine, all I did was wait patiently.
sent from the honey moto
well i've been connected to wifi for about 6 hours now, and i'm always connected through verizon, but i haven't seen a single thing to do with an update.
They won't roll out the update to all devices at the same time. They have to do it in batches so they can minimise any update related problems should they occur.
So basically, my device is going to start downloading this update, without any previous consent by me, and will just prompt me to install once the update is downloaded?
Well, if it's like any other OTA update I've had it'll ask you before it starts to download. But yeah, essentially.
You will get an icon in your notification window near the clock. Click on it and it will tell you a system update is available, and give you 3 options; Just click 'Install Now' and watch it go and in 10 min (or less) you will be updated.
Sweet deal. Thanks guys... I was seriously starting to get very distraught.
I only owned an ios device before... but my girlfriend has a Captivate... so watching her be unable to get froyo for so long was starting to get me worried about my Xoom.

While yes that what I would do if it were mine (My Incredible is running CM7 RC2), she doesn't care much. Just as long as it works for her then she is happy.
Yeah, my wife's the same. Luckily she's on Froyo (Desire) so it's not really an issue. I would forcibly update it to Gingerbread if I thought she'd notice.
If your xoom isn't on verizon 3g will you get the update? Is it coming from verizon or from motorola and how do they no about my device? I set it up on wifi and never used the 3g setup nore do I have a verizon contract. Am I going to be hosed?!?

Your device periodically checks google's servers to see if there is update. Updates are released in batches so your device may not see an update until some time later. They can be downloaded off of wifi. Don't worry you're not hosed.

Funny stuff.. you gave consent when you left the check for updates boxed checked. Uncheck it problem solved you will not get the update.. since it reads as that is your preference. Others want the update you don't want the update #winner.

That happened on my Rooted/stock ROM Evo. Every now and then it pops up asking me to install an update that it just downloaded. Easy enough to simply decline, but pretty anoying though. At some point, I'll wander over to the Evo forum to see about (perhaps) pushing the new Cyanogen ROM, but im finding it hard to get excited about the phone these days...
Edit: Also, for those keeping score... My Xoom has not yet seen the update (5:17PM EST).

I just setup my AT&T s7 edge today. All has been great for the past 6 hours. Now my sm-g935a just downloaded a new at&t software update.
Anyone have this same update today or get this installed yet? Do we know what it includes? I will dig around for more details myself, maybe my phone was behind in updates.
UPDATE/EDIT: I think for me it might be a security patch. Noticing I am Android security patch level Sept 1, 2016. Is this the current?
Current AT&T patch for S7e is 11/01/2016. I checked last week and there was no update for Dec.

Good luck getting it to go through, I had to go to at&t online and have them force push the update earlier this week, then the touch on the phone went out and couldn't use certain parts of the keyboard. Replacement phone I got, they can't even get the update to force over.

And you still aren't up to date. There's an APK1 update from November that won't go through unless you call or chat with them. I gave up trying to get rid of it; the first S7 Edge I got on Christmas Eve, updated it to APK1 and rooted it, crashed 5 times in 10 days, then the touch sensor on the lower right went out. Then, tried to update to the October software, rooted, crashed, reset and Odined the September software, rooted, fine.
Why is it not allowed through or I'm not seeing it?

I have APK1, just got the phone today. I can root on APK1 right? Been searching for a few hours now and haven't found a definitive answer. If you could point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I considered rooting to uninstall all the junk ware. It seems though it can be somewhat risky. Plus it seems to give some buggy results and given the s7 is not perfect in any way, I'm personally settled to just leave it the way it is. Was hoping that update I saw last night was a prelude to a nougat upgrade.
I just came from the Note 7... Well I still have it... Anyway I don't mind buggy processes and or Idc about tripping Knox either lol. This phone is gonna be my play phone till the Note 8 comes out :cyclops:

I'm on Wi-Fi and fully charged. It says there is an update and that i can download it on Wi-Fi. But there's no way to make it start the download and it's not prompting me. Any tips?
EDIT: Nevermind.... I realized it is just easier to fool the phone by changing the time. Apparently LG does not understand what the words "any time" mean. Stupid idiotic that it will only update after 11pm. But I have the update now by tricking the phone.
What sort of black magic is this?!

It was on a 2016 firmware, unfortunately I don't remember (terrible I know)... I have T-Mobile and it's completely stock currently. I may have to root in the future to debloat since all of the bloat has the "disable" button greyed out.
Seems resolved now that I changed the time to trick it to update.
