SITUATION
My Cingular 8500 does not power on. I have tried connecting it to wall charger as well as USB cable. The red or the orange light also does not come on. I tried all resets also but nothing worked.
BACKGROUND
a. My phone suddenly went off when I was opening the sliding keyboard. It had a decent (60%) charge at that time. After this it refuses to come on.
b. Only addition to the phone in the last 3 months has been a 2GB MicroSd Card. I inserted this card 4 days back and it was working fine.
c. The device is around 6 months old (but its unlocked, running WM6 and does not have any warranty)
d. I have been using the original wall charger to charge this phone regularly.
HELP REQUIRED
1. Is there a way to check if the problem is with the battery or with the phone? I do not have a spare battery.
2. Should any light come on if I connect the phone to charger without the battery inserted in it?
Thanks!
Try this:
1.) Remove battery
2.) Connect Hermes to charger or USB
3.) Insert the battery while Hermes is connected to charger
4.) Red light should turn Amber
5.) Soft Reset
i have the same situation going on ... except with mine the screen faded out...it came back on once...and faded out again and will not turn back on.. when i put it on the charger it was a red light.. and will not turn on or soft reset, or enter bootloader or hard reset. .. in addition i tried the method above and nothing has worked.... any other suggestions...my phone was working fine when this happened out of nowhere... i dont have insurance either i bought the phone from someone off of craigslist..help is greatly appreciated
I am having the exact same problem, I had about 30% charge, then it just shut off, and now will not come back on under its own power or via USB nor charger. I tried connecting the charger then inserting the battery, but I do not get any indicator lights at all.
I was running WM6, and the most recent thing installed was the pointUI home screen replacement app.
has anyone experienced this before?

It wont power on threw charger without a "good" battery plugged in.
Sounds like u might have a bad battery. Happend to a friend of mine "different phone" just go to a local Radioshack If they have your type of battery and have one in stock they will most likely let you try one on your phone. If not just go to ATT wireless store and see if they have one you can try and buy.

Dear demo23019, I am not sure if I understand the above correctly. Should the Power LED light up "red" when battery is not inserted?
Once I connect the phone to charger (wall or USB), without the battery inserted in it, no red light comes on.
Does this mean that there is some problem with the phone hardware?

Yea the power LED should light up red with out a battery plugged in. Check the usb plug on the bottom of your phone, make sure the middle piece inside is still there and didnt break off.

Oops. My phone's power LED does not light up when I connect it to the charger without the battery inserted in it.
I have checked the following :
a. usb plug is fine (I checked it by plugging it into the Y cable for the USB charger. The LED on the Y cable lights up when I connect the USB plug into it
b. The middle piece inside the socket at the bottom of the phone is still there and shows no signs of damage.
c. The wall charger is also working fine.
Does this conclude that the phone has a hardware fault and this is not linked to the battery being dead?
Similar Problems
I just had the same problem. I had it happen to my Att Tilt and then to my cingular 8525. You should check out this thread and maybe post your info there too, it would be nice to see everybody post in the same thread so we can figure out what's going on.

yh
yh i got the same problem, i touched the power button so it wld go into standby, and it then refused to turn back on, even when i soft resetted it. Plugged it into the wall charger without the battery and there is no red power light coming on.
I've got a MDA Vario II and though im gettin a replacement, it kinda sucks as it seems im gna lose all my data
can we try to determine in more detail what people installed before they experienced this?
I just pulled it apart, and cleaned the inside to no avail, nothing seems to be awry, atleast not to my untrained eye, however it did get me thinking.
I listen to music on my tytn all the time, and over time the usb connector has become quite loose, frequently losing connections over activesync and music comes and goes from both lef and right. if the USB connector is shot, then when I plug it in it won't register that there is power, nor will it have the power to light up the red light indicating there is no battery. also, if the usb link is shot, then the phone wasn't charging so my battery is likely dead.
now to test this out I need to have a verified 100% charged battery.
I currently have the same problem. It will not charge via wall/usb. It flashes red once and that's it. Without the battery and plugged in, I get a solid red light. I tried plugging it into the wall charger without a battery and then putting my battery back in. The red light just turns off. That's it. I can get an active sync connection with a dim white screen, but I do not have enough juice to try flashing a new rom. If anyone has issues like these, are you also able to get an activesync connection?
TIA
EDIT: Is it possible to bypass the low battery protection when flashing a rom? My battery is somewhere around 40% so it would be safe.
Update:
Okay, I purchased a new oem battery and a battery charging dock. This way I can charge the battery without the phone before I attempt to flash a new rom.
I still would appreciate it if anyone who has seen these symptoms (white screen BUT with lots of vibrating / no charging / no bootloader) could give me a few pointers. I've exhausted the Wiki and so far it seems my only option to save the phone is to flash a new rom. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to give me some advice.
After a fail upgrade my phone is dead.
I can turn it on, I tried all modes with no success.
If I remove the battery and reseat it and plug the phone into the power charger the charging light just came up as it is charging. If I try turn the device on in this way the light just goes down and it gives no response.
Does anyone have any tips to help me bring my device back?
Thanks.

Look up JTAG.
Well you could try pressing BACK+POWER --before-- you plug in the battery, then keep them pressed, then plug the battery... Good luck. I'm bricked and not even that works...
Can someone help me here please.
I just took my HD2 out of the drawer where its been for month.
It keeps saying "loading please wait"....there is a blue parakeet in the bottom right corner.
Its been a long time since I unlocked this and I have no clue where to even start.
Im willing to make a donation to get my phone up and running.
Thanks alot.
Could try hard reset turn off hold both up and down volume buttons in whilst powering on.
if i pull the battery and put it back in, I cannot hard reset. Nothing happens. The only thing thats happening is the phone constantly reboots while its plugged into a power source.
Check for bent battery pin.
well dont forget ..phone hasnt been charged in months. Im trying to charge it but it just keeps rebooting.
discharged battery would have been my response once you had checked the pins. I say check pins first because with a totally dead battery, you don't get any rebooting, even on external power. It will try a few times, maybe as many as a dozen, but will eventually stop even that.
did it have magldr installed? if so, it wont charge when android isnt running,, in which case skip to **
if it has winmo installed (though this is of course teh android section ), you can try plug in the charger with the battery out, and then insert the battery. it should prevent it trying to start and allow it to start charging. light might not come on for a while.
**If you can't get it to start charging, and/or you just like forcing the issue, take a spare usb cable, mini or micro, doesn't matter (you're gonna destroy it) and cut the end off, bare the red and black wires, and, using the wall charger, connect black to - and red to + on the battery, and hold there for about a minute. (can use your fingers, I can verify you don't feel a thing) Reinsert battery and get the real usb cable plugged in quickly from the wall charger. Should have enough juice to start starting, and start charging.
Hello everyone,
First of all my problem. My nexus 7 is dead . the battery got too low as the charger was busted and it switched off and now its not turning on. I got the OEM nexus USB cable, OEM charger and have followed almost all the troubleshooting tips on this forum and elsewhere.
Now I dont know if the problem lies in the charging point or the battery.
My question to anyone who has the idea is that, IF i charge the battery in another Nexus 7, or with an external charger, will it work?
I want to fix this( i am in Nepal) and there is no way I can get a warranty in this. So I am in DIY mode
If the battery is dead and I cant boot into the bootloader anymore, is the above idea a possibility?
Thank you

Does it do anything when you first plug it in to charge?
As in does it start to show the charging screen and power off immediately? Does it start to boot then turn off?
Was having an issue with my wife's n7 where she let it discharge all the way to dead and would not take a charge or turn back on.
There is a trick you may be able to save it without doing much at all.
Plug it in to a wall charger and immediately, or as quickly as you can, hold power and volume down to try and get into recovery mode or bootloader. Needs to be almost instant.
If you can get into recovery or bootloader select power down (in bootloader use volume keys to navigate, power button to select).
Unplug the power cord and plug it right back in. You should hopefully see the charging battery screen.
Hope this helps.

I have already tried the above method. The good news is I went to a repair shop and asked them to charge the battery externally. My nexus did start. But it seems like I damaged the USB port somehow, so it is either a POGO pin charger or have to get the port frm smwhere..hmmm
Not even sure what happened but whenever I plug it in it does absolutely nothing. Use the included brick and it works with everything else and so does the cord. What I do know is when i turn it off and plug it in it vibrates and the red light flashes. Which means it has to be getting some sort of power but not enough to charge it? Tried a samsung type c cable it does the same thing.
You probably need to RMA it
