[Q] nexus 7 battery issues - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
First of all my problem. My nexus 7 is dead . the battery got too low as the charger was busted and it switched off and now its not turning on. I got the OEM nexus USB cable, OEM charger and have followed almost all the troubleshooting tips on this forum and elsewhere.
Now I dont know if the problem lies in the charging point or the battery.
My question to anyone who has the idea is that, IF i charge the battery in another Nexus 7, or with an external charger, will it work?
I want to fix this( i am in Nepal) and there is no way I can get a warranty in this. So I am in DIY mode
If the battery is dead and I cant boot into the bootloader anymore, is the above idea a possibility?
Thank you

Does it do anything when you first plug it in to charge?
As in does it start to show the charging screen and power off immediately? Does it start to boot then turn off?
Was having an issue with my wife's n7 where she let it discharge all the way to dead and would not take a charge or turn back on.
There is a trick you may be able to save it without doing much at all.
Plug it in to a wall charger and immediately, or as quickly as you can, hold power and volume down to try and get into recovery mode or bootloader. Needs to be almost instant.
If you can get into recovery or bootloader select power down (in bootloader use volume keys to navigate, power button to select).
Unplug the power cord and plug it right back in. You should hopefully see the charging battery screen.
Hope this helps.

I have already tried the above method. The good news is I went to a repair shop and asked them to charge the battery externally. My nexus did start. But it seems like I damaged the USB port somehow, so it is either a POGO pin charger or have to get the port frm smwhere..hmmm

Will not boot, powers down

Last night my battery completely drained so I charged it over night and when I went to power it on it says booting WPH go go go, boots to the HTC green logo screen and powers off. I have been running WP7 flawlessly for 3 weeks now and have not had this problem before. I don't really want to reflash right now because I'm hoping there's a way to salvage everything in the phone.
Are you sure the battery charged last night...reason I ask is...when it completely drains the battery wont charge when the phone is off due to Magldr.
Yeah, it's off the charger right now and it just keeps powering off after the HTC logo
same exact thing just happened to me. I'm going to start from scratch and redo it.
I am curious to know as to what caused this, it's very odd since the ROM has been working flawlessly.
your not restarting with usb cable attached are you?
how did you charge your battery? external charger?
there is some talk that charging in magldr usb flasher mode works dispite no status lights BUT its unclear if the battery controller will auto cut off when full, overcharging could shag your battery
oh a while back i had some odd restart issue too, pretty much as you have mentioned, happened 4 times in a row then worked
Help me too!!!
Me as well, about an hour ago, my battery drained, so I plugged it in, and the phone keeps restarting, but then powers off...
I've kept it on the AC for the past hour, and now it no longer hit's the magldr, it just flashes the screen black, then dies...
Is there a way to JUST CHARGE my battery? Without having it in the phone?
too bad you didnt seach for this issue, i wrote a nice piece that would have got you out of that mess if you hadnt kept restarting it, oh well never mind,
if you cant even get to magldr then your looking at an external charger, you could try connecting up an old usb cable directly to the battery but be very careful!
This happened to my old HD2 after I gave it to my sister once I got my HD7, to enable it to charge again all I did was remove cable, remove battery. Re-insert battery and attach cable, hold down the volume down button on the side of the handset and press the power button.
The phone will turn on and show the tri-color screen. Leave it on this screen for 20 minutes and the battery will charge, then simply reboot and you will be able to boot back in to Windows Phone 7.

[Q] HTC Not charging while off (cLk)

Hey,
I have installed cLk and my battery ran out by accident, and when I put it in with my USB it just turns on the phone, then turns off almost straight away then turns on and goes in a loop. How can I ressurect my phone? I thought cLk was able to charge while off?
Thanks,
Snowled
Did you check the contact pins between battery and HD2 body?My experience is that the middle pin is so easy to be bent, and can not contact to the battery. This makes battery unchargeably.
CLK can be offline charging but I still get problem too if I want turn on my device,,,i must pull out my battery and back it back to turn on my device,,,,

This is due to how clk charges while off. AFAIK the phone isn't truly off when charging, instead it boots to something (clk?kernel?something else?) that just handles charging with the screen off. This is also why the hardware key lights will light up when charging while off. You don't need to pull the battery, just unplug from charger and power up.
If you still can't get it to charge, remove the battery, connect the usb cable then wait a few seconds, finally insert the battery and your phone should start charging normally .
cLK: phone off under charge
Hi guy
with cLK 1.5.0.3 when my phone is off and under charge, I have to remove the battery because the led stay on, and as if I push the power button, the phone doesn't start on.
This happen also when I unplugged the cable and push the power button like suggest to jwchips (2 post above)
There's a solution?
Ps. With phone off and usb cable is plugin, the battery charge.
still not charging
phone still not charging, I have to charge the battery outside of the phone, then insert it for the phone to boot up, then it will charge, if the battery died on me, it wont charge with the original charger or with the computer USB...
Enable in-built charging mode in CLKs advanced settings and try.
Don't know about Clk...but in magldr...when in boot menu screen...HD2 charges. (Led is off...no indication of charging...but it does).

What version of clk do you use? The latest experimental version can charge in off mode (both by recovery or built-in clk) and wake up your phone easily. You can charge in off mode when using old clk. But, the wake-up key combination is weird, i.e. volume up + volume down + power key. It is difficult to press them at the same time.
If all failed, charge the battery out of the phone.:fingers-crossed:
charge it in tricolor bootloader! (volume down + power) and it will not show led during charge

Are you sure about this? I don't know exactly what happens because I only have WPH 7.8 and I can't really rely on the battery indication while it turns on. Every time it is different.
So, maybe a new feature in the next release of MAGLDR can be a battery charge indication and levels? Since it boots up anyway to charge (even in magldr), i think it would be helpful. What do you all think? Maybe we post a humble request to the developers of MAGLDR?

[Q] HELP!!!! n10 died and now wont turn on

Ok my n10 is rooted and romed with CARBON rom, no problems nothing, but today I had an email come in I looked at it set It down left the screen on a second later it just died. so I plugged it in back on it comes. later same thing almost dead checked new email, set it down screen on then death.....plugged it in again, now nothing except a flashing battery charging symbol. been charging for 10 min. tried power, power volume down, nothing....got a different cable...nothing.....my computer wont pick it up either. what do I do?????
PLEASE HELP!!!
I just had this same problem with mine; because of the strange battery issue where my battery would read 90% when it was actually empty and slow charging once it was plugged in... The resolution for me was to plug it into the charger for 5 minutes and not touch it and then try a power on.

Thanks Ill give it a go!!
Plug it in to the wall charger, not a computer. Let it sit for 30 minutes and then hold all buttons down at the same time. This should let the tablet boot now and will bring you into fastboot mode. It defaults to "Start" so just hit the power button and the tablet will boot like normal. Once you verify the tablet will boot fine, shut it down and leave it plugged into the wall charger until the tablet is charged all the way.
Dont know if it is a coincidence or not but this is the 3rd time I have heard the same story and all people were using the Carbon ROM.
Thanks guys for the feedback, definitely will be switching roms and buy the pogo charger!

Phone won't boot up after running out of battery

I'm running Omni rom with eas kernel and just yesterday my phone ran out of battery, and now I can't turn it on at all. At first when I held the power button, the phone would vibrate after about 15 seconds but it wouldn't do anything. Now it doesn't vibrate or show any signs of life at all; no charging led no nothing. If anyone knows a way to get into recovery or fastboot that would be enough for me to flash a new rom but I can't even get it to fastboot or recovery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
What happens when you have the charger plugged in? Is it stock charging cable and brick? Have you tried checking what happens when you plug into a computer? If it is the stock cable check the end of the cable (phone side plug) to make sure there are no burns.
You can try holding the volume-down + power.

It has been charging for hours on the stock cable and brick. There are no signs of burns anywhere, plugging it into the computer doesn't change anything either. The computer doesn't detect that it is even plugged in.
Ran out of battery? Like 1% was left? That's no good. You're never supposed to let a lithium-ion battery get that low. You might have to replace the battery. Just keep attempting to charge it and boot it up again, use different outlets, different cables and adapters, etc. This is a common issue--people are stupid and just let their phones die instead of being vigilant about charging them. And there's plenty of stories about and advice for Android phones that won't turn on after being completely drained of battery life. Google is here to help you.
Did you try what slgooding suggested?
I tried holding down the power and volume down button. I usually don't let my phone die but I went camping and left my phone in my car and I forgot to power it off I guess. Still I've never heard of this happening to anyone else.

This is a real bummer. I would suggest trying another power brick and cable. That may be your best bet. See if it has any indication it is charging.
Try a different cable to charge and press and hold that power button till it boots(2,3, 5min...) it happened to me the other day... I love my LP3 keeps me entertained...lol

PH-1 requires long press PWR button to boot - Any ideas why?

Hello,
I just purchased a used PH-1 and it was reset before I got it. So I put in my Google credentials and restored a backup no problem. The first few times I powered the phone down and plugged in a charger, I saw the battery charging graphic icon (looks like a coffee to go cup : ), no problem. But now, when I power down the phone, the screen is black and stays black with no sound or vibration when I plug in the charger. It still *does* charge in this state, but when I try and boot the phone back up, I have to press the Power button for 10+ seconds and let go before it will boot. I suppose I can continue to use the phone this way, but I was wondering if there was a reason and/or fix for this that anyone is aware of? thanks so much.

Sorry I should have mentioned, I tried several cables and chargers... same result.
Another issue I noticed. If I turn on the phone when it's plugged in, it goes to the bootloader (which is locked). I have to unplug the phone if I want to boot to the OS.

Make sure you're not fat-fingering the volume down button and the power button, because that combination is guaranteed to get you into the bootloader.
