On the plus side it's extremely easy to root the 6P and there is a lot of Dev support for ROMs and mods. It's also a powerful and smooth running device. Idle battery life improves if you install a custom ROM and Kernel but SOT battery life isn't great.
A small but significant number of 6P users are experiencing problems like the phone shutting down at 20% battery, random reboots and bootloops. I wouldn't purchase a used 6P unless it was refurbished and came with a full warranty from Huawei or Google.

ROM development is very active! Look around in the ROM section! Happy Flashing

Stock vs Custom Rom = Which is going to have better battery life?

Just a curious, semi-NooB questions... I've been rooting phones and running custom ROMs for only about 6 months, but I just now started wondering what gives you better battery life.... Stock ROM or a Custom ROM?
The ROM doesn't really affect battery life unless it has bloat that runs in the background. With a custom kernel you can underclock/change cpu governors to save, but really battery depends on whether or not you let things run in background and how long you have the screen on.

With my s3 I found aosp based roms with better battery life then touchwiz. With the s4 i find touchwiz with better life.
If you were asking between stock touchwiz and custom touchwiz there are a couple of factors. A lite touchwiz custom Rom with a custom kernel should have better life then stock non root Rom/kernel because of bloatware removed and slight tweaks. Custom roms with ported apps and over theming can lead to more battery usage.
All battery stats are user and location related so best to run some tests on your own. A test I use is battery usage from a full charge overnight with data/Wi-Fi/sync/Bluetooth.... disabled. I find it a good constant base as long as there are no tower troubles.
One of the best things about android in my opinion is trying different roms and finding the one that suits me the best.

the best part about these types of questions is that you get to do the research yourself. try a few roms out for a week at a time. you'll find your answer.
We cannot answer this question for you it depends on how you setup any rom, how you use it, and all the other factors people above mentioned.
I for one cannot wait to get this bootloader cracked open and try and get 7 hours screen on time with this baby custom roms of course will help me do this

Unfortunately, I'm on MF3 and can't flash any ROMs..... Now I'm sitting here with a rooted stock S4 and a rooted HTC One with a custom ROM. I can't keep both and have to choose which one to get rid of within the next week.
Decisions, decisions, decisions......
Hi in my opinion better battery life then touchwiz and this is best and also i know about that dependability.

Well I can tell you without a doubt: GET RID OF THAT HTCrap!!!!
I have had 5 or 6 HTC phones in the past 4 years, all Android, all rooted and I pushed those suckers hard, but i had to make so many insurance claims on my last 2 phones through T-Mobile that T-Mo cancelled my insurance policy.. it was not that i abused them they just all had issues
Beyond that I can prettty much say with all certainty that once our MF3 devices get that bootloader cracked open, this thing will beat out any phone on the market and certainly that HTC phone you've got!
It all depends on usage. That is all.
Tips:
1. get Better Battery Stats, and look at what is using battery. If you don't need or use an app that is using battery, freeze it or uninstall it.
2. turn off vibrations, auto-brightness, smart sensor, wifi, etc.
If all you do is use the phone to talk for 30-45 minutes a day, look up stuff on the internet occasionally, and for appointments/alarms, then 24 hours of battery life is easily achievable. If you are an avid phone gamer, you're out of luck.
I've been bouncing between the two for months now. Generally TW based ROMs give better battery life from how use my phone. I prefer AOSP ROMs but i usually find myself back with TW

Do custom ROMs depend on only the model number or on the firmware number as well ?

I got 97% deep sleep last night over a ten hour period with SlimKat 4.4.2 AOSP ROM and stock kernel. Best I've ever seen.
That was with Greenify doing its job though.

[Q] ROM with the best battery life?

Exactly what the title says. I've been looking here and there for some ROMs that I would like to flash and I found quite a number of them to try out. However I want to hear from the experts who have been flashing custom ROMs all the time. What would you say would be the best ROM on battery life? I am currently running Hyperdrive RLS21 and I'll say it does decent on the battery life albeit the standby time can improve (I lose around 10% in a night if I leave it 100% uncharged).

First off battery life is subjective and usually has very little to do with the ROM. It is the kernel and settings which usually have most affect on battery life amongst the same user. This is not something you can compare from user to user but must be compared by the same user under the same conditions.
Let me give you some examples..a heavy gamer will get vastly different battery life from a heavy phone/text user. A person in low signal areas that has many apps synching will get horrible battery life compared to someone who has very little apps or great signal. I think you get the idea.
Kernel settings such as governor/scheduler/OC/UC choices will vastly affect your battery life. You really either need to compare ROMs yourself, or find someone that has compared ROMs under the same situation and similar use as you to get any useful data. I see that you asked for opinions from those flashing many ROMs. Other factors can affect that too...were they all clean flashed? Were any adjustments made?
Hope this helps! And hope you find the perfect ROM for you! Happy Flashing!

Problem is that I'm on a locked bootloader (ATT variant) so it's only natural that I should ask for a ROM that could give the best battery life since I can't flash any kernels
I'm no expert but I've been flashing ROMs for my S2, now my s4 for last 3 years. I've found recently that Tesla has the best battery life, 4% drain over 8 hrs at night. Best ever

Are reports of battery drain after rooting real??

My s7 is arriving today and I was all set to root. But I keep reading posts about how the phone becomes super laggy with all types of battery drain.
I guess I'm trying to gauge if that's a real issue or people just overreacting.
If anyone can share their findings and thoughts I'd appreciate it.

If you follow all the steps after rooting it's not bad. Sot is not as good but standby time is the same for me. I also have no lag.

Follow swicks lag thread. When I first got my s7, I couldn't go more than 7 hours without having to charge it. First day with the tweaks in his thread. I got this
Look into the U firmware. It removes the Verizon bloat, stable, and great battery life!
You can fix idle time on stock by downloading ez disabler (Samsung) from the market and getting a XML list of everything to disable.

I rooted my SM-G930V, and I am experiencing some heat from the phone when it is sleeping- not so much when it is unlocked and operating.
As for battery drain- I have not noticed any major loss in battery usage.
There also seems to be a significant speed issue with speed- took around 5 seconds to open the settings app, But this can be fixed by
editing CPU governor from interactive to ondemand with Kernel Aduitor.
I am looking into this article to fix the heat issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...guide-to-fix-s7-lag-root-s7-variants-t3441715
Stang5litre rom and you wont regret it
You can do a lot with various Xposed modules and other root apps to mitigate the drain, but there is some drain nonetheless. SOT takes a bit of a hit. Standby time, it's negligible.
I recommened personally sticking to stock. I use to be rooted and between battery life and issues I went back to stock. This was before the roms came out. I have a new born and a family I can't play around with signal dropping, phone restarting, lagging and whatever else. I like stock with nougat beta. If the bootloader ever gets unlocked or something else that interests me to root maybe one day but not worth it for me right now.

With Stang5litre's rom I've have zero problems.
There is no way with any rom or any app (unless it is magical and brand new) that you aren't having issues with this phone and root. I tried every app I could and 2 roms available here for it as well and it was still laggy with terrible battery life. I held on with this phone as long as I could hoping for a better root method but I couldn't wait any more. The performance after a few apps and kernel changes is still terrible compared to stock. The battery life after fixes and kernel changes is equally as terrible. I was getting around 1 hour and 10 mins of SOT before it was completely dead. I loved the phone and stock it had great performance and battery life, but that eng kernel for root just destroys it. I NEED root on my phone or I would have kept it stock. Word of advise, keep this phone stock or sell it and get something that can be rooted and actually stay usable.

I get about 5-6 hours SOT and no performance issues. I occasionally overheat but that's it. Different people have different results, for whatever reason.

Root or extended battery?

Hello, fellow LG V20 users...I come baring questions.
I've recently updated my phone from v10 to v20...I liked the v10, but due to being an AT&T variant, I found my options limited, due to no root access.
So far, I'm enjoying the v20 (better sound, pictures and video) but this battery is just not where it should be as far as life goes. I've done all of the usual power save bells and whistles, but no real change in drain.
I had bought an extended battery for the v10 - which allowed my phone to stay charged for 3 days; but after an update, it drained just as fast as if it were a stock battery. So I'm trying to figure out if I should just root my v20 (and if so, which method and ROM would you recommend) or get an extended battery (also seeking recommendations).
Thanks in advance!
Stock battery is really nice. If you are a heavy user try the Mugen battery with case.

To really get the most out of this phone I suggest a spare battery with the cradle.
+1 the stock battery for sure. But do your homework first, don't make your purchase by a couple of views here.

Recommendations?

Hey guys,
I've ran this thing stock from day one. I've loved it, but the itch is coming back. I need mods. I need kernels. I need mo cowbell!
That being said, I think I'm still going to run stock for now. Anyone recommend a specific kernel? I've been looking at HolyDragon a lot. I'm looking for a bump in performance with a significant jump in battery life.
Also, anyone use that stereo speaker mod? How does that work for you guys on speaker phone calls?

You need to flash sky dragon ROM. Its made by the same dev who codes holy angel kernel and the kernel is included in the ROM. I can easily get over 8hrs of screen on time and the mods are pretty decent. I wish they included status bar and navbar colors on the mods but oh well. The ones they come with are enough to keep the phone looking fresh , especially the nifty built-in font changer. Trust me you won't regret it.

If you want great performance and battery life, check out the SkyDragon rom, it's got the HolyDragon kernel built in and I get 8-9 hours of SOT.
In my opinion I feel that Smurf Kernel ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/development/kernel-smurfkernel-2-0-49-t3868360 ) gives me the best battery life. I recommend this one to anyone with this phone.
I'm running stock rom with Omega Kernel. After calibration of a day or so battery life pushes me towards 8hrs of SOT with 42-46 hours of battery life.

Stock OB?
Edit: squared away on Omega Kernel for now. Working great on OB11.
Thanks all!
