I just bought a Rogers arc and everything is great so far, except the wifi. For whatever reason when i try to connect to my home network, although it recognizes it and connects i get a "limited connectivity" which effectively does not allow me to use wifi at all. ive tryed rebooting the phone and reseting my router (which is a D-link DI-524.) any help would be appreciated.
you could go in the router settings and register the phones mac address to a ip of your choice. it should do the trick i think...
I finally figured out what the problem was, i had to update the firmware on the router and then manually add the MAC address like dogggie said and after a reboot voila!
I don't want to make another thread since my problem is similar to this one. So in my school there is a hiden Wi-FI network and it has got a password, but we know Name and Password, so we can connect to Wi-Fi. But here is the thing: My friend who has SGS2 connect's without any problems, but everytime I try to connect to Wi-FI i get "Limited Connectivity" mesage. Is there any way to fix this? Can I somehow get Gateway and Netmask from router, so I can set static IP on my phone or sometheing like that?
Thanks for answers.

I have the same problem. Hidden Wi-Fi in school, limited connectivity. Works for some people, doesn't for most.
I have used CM7 for some time and the Wi-Fi worked with it, but I flashed the stock ROM back and now, again, it doesn't work.
Oo, another one form Slovenia Lep pozdrav. Šola je pa TŠC Kranj.
It also worked for me when I was testing Offical Beta ICS, but now I am back on stock 2.3.4 and all I can get is limited conectivity

Same school.
Today it works. I have just manual set gateway, DNS servers, netmask and my own IP.
Cool. Mind sharing the values you used?
My Tab is brand new from Staples bought yesterday. After unpacking and charging,
wi-fi won't connect to my Verizon DSL wireless router. The Tab has v3.0.1 software.
I've read about plenty of wi-fi issues with the 3.1 upgrade, but, are there know issues with v 3.0.1 software.
I am looking for suggestions and help. Thanks

a little more info might help, like what the wifi does, does it just join, but just says remember, or does it not find at all, or does wifi say error completely??

Thanks for your reply.
I never got connected. It says trying to obtain an IP address, or something like that. I also tried several resets using the paper clip procedure to no avail.
And is your router secured with a key? If so, were you prompted to add it before trying to connect? Did you add it correctly?

It never asked for the password because it never got an IP address assigned to it.

It can't get an IP address unless it has the WEP key to connect to it.
I take it your router isn't secured then.
Or maybe it's different for DSL *shrug* I don't know.

I may be wrong, but I think it must first have an IP address assigned to it by the router. Then, you must give the password to get connected.
That's how it works for my laptops and iPod Touches.

I don't know. That might very well be a "DSL" thing. But in order to connect to a wireless router (which has been secured with a WEP key) one must first add the WEP key to the device then, and only then, will the device be able to connect - not the other way around.
Don't confuse 'password' with 'WEP key'. While their job is similar (preventing unauthorized users from connecting) the lack of a WEP key prevents connection, period, while a password requires a connection first.
But like I said, for DSL routers, maybe it's different - the only thing I can think of would be for you to log into your router from your laptop/desktop and check the wireless settings to see if it is indeed secured with a key - if so, write it down and try again from the tab, making sure that you input the key before it tries to connect.
Of course it *could* be a hardware issue. but it sounds to me like you're missing something.

If it says it is still waiting for an IP address, I can't type anything in....WEP key or password. I may have not been clear with the problem. It "sees" my router, but is constantly trying to obtain an IP address. Sorry for the confusion.
There's no confusion. Of course it will see your router if the router is broadcasting its SSID. That still doesn't mean you *can* connect to it.
Log into your router and check if your wireless is secured with a key. If it is, then you need to add it to your tab *before* it can get an IP address. I can't be any clearer about that.

Ok, thanks. I know the WEP key. But I don't low how\where to enter it into the Tab. I would appreciate it if you could post step by step instructions. Up till now, I have been trying to follow what the Acer manual pdf says:
"If you did not connect to a Wi-Fi network when you first started your tablet, or want to connect to a new network, tap Apps > Settings > Wireless & networks to manage your connection settings. Alternatively, tap the Wi-Fi status icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
If Wi-Fi is not on, tap Turn on Wi-Fi, and wait for your tablet to detect nearby networks. Tap the name of your network and enter a security password, if needed."
Right. Click on the network, add the WEP key where it says 'password'.
I'll try it later when I get home from work and will post my results. Thanks for you help.
What you're doing sounds strange. I too have a DSL router, but it works no different than any other router I've ever had. I've had several Android devices including tablets, and they all work the same. When you try to connect to a protected network, it will prompt you for a password. It cannot obtain an IP without the password, this step occurs after the password verification.
I have had issues where my remembered networks just sometimes sit at "Obtaining an IP address...", and never connect. Usually a reboot solves this problem. I tend to have more issues with WPA networks than WEP, but almost nobody uses WEP anymore.
But, there really shouldn't be a trick to it. Click on the network and it will prompt you for a password (WEP or WPA, works the same). If you've already done this, try rebooting.
I've never had the experience that jostarr has, where I needed to enter a key before a password.
Otherwise, like one of the other posters stated, it could be a hardware issue.
Problem solved.
I tried the Factory Reset from the settings menu. It took a few minutes to reset and reboot. A s soon as I went to the Wi-Fi settings, it found my router, got great signal strength, and was asked for my password. It then connected immediately.
I then went to settings, and looked for any updates. It found the latest update, so I downloaded and installed OS v3.1. It took about 1 hour to complete the download and installation. My tab works great now. I could not be more pleased with it.
Many thanks to all on this forum and elsewhere who contributed their suggestions and advice.
congrats on solving your issue Jostarr. I'm happy you got it worked out.

I contacted a "usergroup" for my internet provider and they told me the symptoms I'm having are due to the router thinking my htc hd2 is attacking it and so it turns off wifi to end the connection between the two , anybody else had this or would know how to fix this -_-? Changing my security to WEP was suggested but this is out of the question due to it being very unsecure.
Edit- Are there any apps which let you specify which security type you'd like to choose e.g. wpa only instead of wpa/wpa2.
Have you rebooted the router, that would be my first step, and the second, Look for a firmware flash and update if available
Also try the phone on a different wifi set up as it may just be the phone itself
If you mean turning the router on and off yes, the router gets turned off at night anyways - firmware is uptodate and I'll check tomorrow if it connects with another wifi.
The phone does connect to other networks so it is just mine that thinks it's being attacked

Turning your router off and back on is a reboot, indeed, but it works only on windows based devices Try to RESET it (just do not forget to note some sensitive/important information first - just in case you'll need to manually restore some settings).

What kind of crap is it and what version of firmware it's running?
HD2 attacking access-point - that's something new, interesting
The router is Thomson TG587N Works fine with 2 iphone 4,itouch 4 gen,2 laptops and a computer connected to it on wireless with another 4 computers connected by ethernet cable at the same time but when the htc hd2 is introduced just turns off wifi -_-. I've now tried turning off the firewall, IDS,changing channels, turning off security/encryption altogether...STILL NOTHING
Simple way to tell if it does think its being attacked ,,,, it will create an entry in the IDS log. If there is no entry then its a different issue.

In the event log there was an entry for the IDS everytime the wifi went down... Disabling IDS through telnet however did not do anything : - Just stopped the IDS log :S.
...nothing?
Sadly I suspect the router is the culprit not the Phone.
See if there is an earlier firmware you can flash as you have the latest.
No other options sadly
Oh apart from replacing one of them - routers are cheaper (over in the UK anyway)
Hi, wonder if anyone can give me any pointers on this one? Not certain it's a device issue, but it's only my 6p having the problem, so it's where I'm currently looking for the fix...
I'm currently unable to access locations on my internal network - eg, if I use ES File Explorer, I can usually connect to my file server, no problem. However this is no longer working. I get an error saying 'server not found'
Nor can I access any internal web pages (eg the admin pages for my servers), and even Plex can't create a direct connection - only an indirect one.
The only connection I can make internally is the router admin page - and any page where I have port forwarding and access via a host name.
My other devices - both wired & wireless, on the same SSID, have no issues at all.
These issues seem to have coincided with the update to 7.1.2 - perhaps a coincidence, but seems to be linked.
I've tried re-installing ES File Explorer, and I've used the 'Network Settings Reset' option - neither of these helped.
I'm not using anything fancy like a VPN - the router is the bog-standard ISP provided one with a few port-forwarding rules - I've looked through the settings and can't see anything that might be blocking it.
Any suggestions welcome!
Well, not sure what the actual issue was, but in the end I forced the router to give out a new IP address to the phone, and voila - worked!
I'd infer some sort of IP address conflict, but don't even have that many devices on DHCP, so not entirely sure.

Given it was only this device having the issue, and the timing lined up with the 7.1.2 update, I suspected it was an issue relating to that update.
In the end, releasing the IP address and having a new one issued resolved it, which is why I inferred an IP address conflict.

By internal network problem does that mean you had no issue connecting to WiFi with your phone and doing stuff like browsing the Internet?

Correct - browsing the internet, using apps etc - absolutely fine. Just nothing internal. So even PLEX would use an indirect connection rather than a direct one.
I'd restarted the phone several times, used the 'reset network services' option setting, but even after that the router was issuing the same ip address to the device. That's when I began getting suspicious that it was linked to the IP address. So changed the DHCP range to exclude the IP address it was giving out, restarted the router, and that sorted it.

I'm sure about that: my internet router assigns the same static IP on a MacAddress basis.
I have always my IP from Nougat = no one changed my mac address
The initial identifies the Chip manufacturer, so it's normal that is the same
