Hi,
I'am interested in using my rooted NST with SignalK. This is a platform which sends out nmea sentence over wifi. And displays this on a webpage. I've tried this with my Nook. But the pages doesn't load. Also the example pages on internet don't load.
I am wondering if something is wrong with my Nook. Because I read some other websites that the kindle is used successfully with this SignaklK
My question to anyone outthere,
Could someone try to open the following url in a browser on their Nook Simple Touch?
demo.signalk.org/react-consumer
Or the page, and rhen select any of the next sites:
demo.signalk.org
Thanks for trying, and the feedback

Wouter

I had no trouble accessing the first URL using Opera Mobile. Just six fields or so with updating data? Contrast is not ideal for the NST, but it does seem to work.
Thanks for the checking, and the feedback.
Could you tell me what route you followed to root your nook?
So I can try that..

I started from stock 1.2.1 and used NookManager. A lot of mods since then, but that was the rooting process.
Ok, I think I have to re-root my nook.
The mod's that you did, did they involve anything on JSON, WebSockets or http? As this is the way signalk delivers data.
Oh, btw, merry Chritmas

No changes of that sort. I only did a brief look at the SignalK stuff but if I understand correctly, the HTML is being generated off the device--is that right? Otherwise seeing if Opera Mobile can access a remote page somewhere may not be a test of potential success.
If there is some Android 2.1 component that runs on the NST, anything could be an issue since B&N did a haphazard overlay of the Android system with their stuff.
Happy Boxing Day!
Edit: It occurred to me that it might be helpful for you to see what Opera Mobile displays at the first URL you gave. I've attached a screen cap below, but be aware that the image on the NST is not quite as sharp as this looks. If there are options for colors, etc., in generating the HTML then you could probably improve a lot on what Opera Mobile displays.
Thanks for adding the screenshot .
I re-rooted my nook, and what i got was a semi-succes. The webpage did show in the opera mobile, but there was no data polling. So I rooted the Nook from SWMBO (after some negotiation), and i got the same result as on my own nook. De webpage did show, but no polling.
I found the following post on the forum, which states the same problem (internet connectivity), and he posted an other Opera apk.
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62446076&postcount=5
This version did work for me. So no problems any more...

Hi to all, have had my xda 2 for a couple of months now, starting to play with it and have a few questions for those in the know
So if you could help out it will be appreciated TIA
1 Under the my xda>connections>select country, whaen i choose UK then finish, after the restart i check and the country has returned to Germany, i get around this by not clicking finish, it works but its annoying.
2 I used to have an mpx200 when i recieved email notifications from various forums i frequent it would contain the message as well, handy for knowing whats been posted without having to log on to the forum and troll through page after page, at the moment the email on the xda is truncated, is there a way around this ??
3 I know there are other browsers out there for the xda2 but can anyone recommend a good one that will resize pages so that i dont have to scroll horizontally to read forum reply's etc etc
Thats about it for now, sorry to be so long winded, any and all help is appreciated, TIA
If you go into Mail accounts, click on the Account tab and click on your POP3 account, follow Next, Next, Next, then Options, finally Next, Next again - you should get Options (3/3).
Here you'll find a dropdown where it should for you say Get message headers only, with the a tick in Include 50k or something. Change the dropdown to Get full copy of messages, and you'll also notice the tickbox is now disabled. This should download the full content of emails when you next try.
Not sure about the Germany thing, and also the internet explorer. You have tried to use the Fit To Screen option in IE's View menu? Usually does the trick for me.
Cheers

Screen Size in I.E.
Hi,
I use a product called ThunderHawk. You can download a demo.
Its about as close to desktop web access as you are likely to get.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip, is the demo fully functional and or time limited, if so how much is the full version. I will have a search for it as well, thanks again.
I search and found something called PocketDyndns, however i never able to reach the site, does anyone know other programs can do ???
Since I want to config my firewall will only allow me to telnet in, however GPRS is not a fix IP, so I hope i set my firewall to recognize the xxx.dyndnd.org all i need is to update my IP to the DNS record.
Ever heard of the hidden, hard-to-find, brand-new and useless search machine Google? Here you can click on the second link and voila!
i know this thread is old, but anyone got any better leads i swear i been up and down and thru that list but whatever was the 2nd link isn't available anymore.
Nor does there seem to be much else.
It would be very convenient for the ftp, http, inbound via GPRS people if a ActiveSync/"Internet" aware PocketPC/Windows Mobile Dynamic IP app was available.
Any ideas?
Yup, it seems it has been completely removed from http://www.networkdweebs.com/stuff/dyndns/ . The parent directory, which is visible ( http://www.networkdweebs.com/stuff/ ) doesn't contain it any more.
Therefore, mail the dev at [email protected] and ask them how you can get the app. Please also post a message in here too if you get any positive answer.
I just find that site...

I just tried to go to a site in Internet Explorer on my Tytn tonight (I was successfully surfing the web all day today) and no matter what website I try to go to, I get redirected to www.ownbox.com/treasure/videogames.html!! I searched the whole forum, and did a google and turned up nothing in the forums and only that it is in fact a hijack site, but found no instructions for fixing it.
Anyone ever heard of this... on Windows Mobile no less??

Where it is under WM5? I've tried to create \Windows\hosts to add a couple of records, to no avail. I wish I knew where it should be!
I'm glad everyone is so entertained by my first-day woes and surfing habits.
In any case, can anyone help me along here so I don't have to do a hard reset... when you say "what's in your host file?" Where can I find that? Is this where I will be able to clean this thing out? I can't imagine it would be near as hard to get rid of malware in a PPC as it is in a desktop. Then again, I could easily be wrong there too!
Thanks again.
Check in your java applets and you homepage setting?
Homepage setting is still the original one //\Windows/default.htm. I took a look at default.htm with Notepad on my desktop to see if it's compromised and it's not. Very strange.
I've also looked at the registry settings for IE and I don't see anything out of the ordinary, although, I'm far from an expert in what the typical registry entries are for IE!
Try over at 4winmobile.com as well mate and Modaco, in for a penny and all that!
Just do a hard reset, and stop surfing porn sites!
Google is good for porn, but also good for looking for solution to porn related problems

Bydandie - thanks, I'm looking around in those forums right now.
Hanmin - those are great resources... I downloaded the pocket hosts program just to verify what I saw in the registry under Comm/Hosts. Unfortunately, the only host I'm showing in there is 169.254.2.2 which is the ppc's relationship with ActiveSync. This would lead me to believe that the problem lies somewhere else. The Pocket Hosts app is a great little app though, and I'm definitely keeping it.
By the way, to everyone else, I know you're just kidding around about the pornsites thing, but this issue arose out of me accidentally typing a "w" instead of an "e" in the address bar. If you navigate to www.googlw.com by accident, this is the result. Look it up on google if you don't believe me... just be sure to type GOOGLE, not GOOGLW!!!
A hard reset is going to be my very last resort as I already have a ton of apps on here that I put on yesterday. I don't have a storage card yet so running a backup isn't an option, besides the fact that once I were to run a restore on the newly-reset device, it would just bring the issue back anyway.
Thanks to everyone thus far for you help! The search continues!!
Spybot S&D have a mobile version - maybe try that? never found anything on mine but would not really expect it to as had no problems.
Crazyc, thanks, I had no idea Spybot had a mobile version... pretty cool.
Unfortunately, I downloaded it and ran it on my Tytn, and it finds nothing.
I'm tearing apart the internet left and right trying to find something... apparently I'm the first person in the world who has typed googlw.com by accident??
Onward I trudge...
There aren't any viruses, or spyware for Windows Mobile. If you synced with ActiveSync, it has all the programs still on your computer, just choose the Add/Remove Programs option from AS after you hard reset.
Everyone,
After several soft resets and clearing of all History, Files, and Cookies, both through the Options, and by manually going into the folders, as well as running Memmaid 3 different times, it FINALLY appears that the issue has gone away.
I wish I knew where exactly in the process the problem was solved, or what was done to solve it, but for now, I'm just happy to not have to do a hard reset, and actually be able to use IE again.
Thanks a ton to everyone for your help and suggestions. I hope to be able return the favor in the near-future to someone who has a problem I've experienced and solved.
Let this be a lesson to everyone... before you hit "Go" on your browser, make SURE you've spelled the website name correctly in the address bar... apparently googlw.com is just one of many of these kinds of "typosquatting" sites.
Cheers!
I've just gone into googlw.com and try to see what happened there.. and what script it is using to cause all the havoc.. but apparently, it has been .. solved? It redirects me to the proper google site.
I spoke to soon.
The problem is back. When I said it had gone away, I was accessing the internet through my activesync connection to my pc, and with that there are no problems. Once I disconnected from my pc and tried to browse through Cingular, the problem is back. Errrrrrrrrrgh!!
Also, it looks like this issue is exclusive to IE. I installed Opera and Minimo to test, and they both surf the web with no problems.
Hi,
I've used Juicy's ROMs (v1.08) and MSR 1.1 and both of them do not permit SSH input.
I've tried both pocketputty and Pragma VT, and nothing works. I can't pass any ls or any command after logging in (Pragma VT passes username and password through application, so that atleast let's me log in).
I think this is an underlying problem and not a ROM issue, can someone please help me figure this out?
Thanks!
---
Solution:
Thanks to jxent for pointing me in the right direction.
Basically, it's not the software's fault or any ROM's fault. What matters is the input type you use.
Full qwerty and compact qwerty just don't work on here. The trick is to use the "keyboard" input method and then you're golden.
Good luck, and thanks for everyone else who banged their head for me, including but not limited to Juicy, Mightymike, Juggalo_X and others.
I'm using the GFTC kitchen from ppcgeeks, and ssh with putty works fine. I'm using the stock kitchen with a couple apps added and some preset phone settings.

Weird, cuz both the ROMS I've used are off the GFTC kitchen.
I've again tried with pocketputty, to nogo. Currently using MSR 1.1.

Why do you need SSH input btw?

I'll try it out over the weekend and let you know.
I'm a telus diamond owner and have used pocketputty on the stock ROM, as well as several versions of Juicy (I'm currently on 2.2). It has always worked for me, using both password and private/public key authentication.
*However*, I've noticed that it typically takes over 90 seconds to reach the login prompt. For whatever reason, I can lower that time to about 15 seconds if I repeatedly bang on the enter key after pressing "Open".
In answer to Carty's question, I use it to securely tunnel remote desktop connections.

I answered his question, as I understood it, because he asked. There's no point discussing that interpretation with you - if he wishes to clarify the question I'm sure he will. There is simply no need for elitist responses like yours. What if he *is* in grade 2?
You seem more concerned with this than my attempt to answer your own question. Did I help you at all in regard to your original problem?

Ofcourse. You actually helped pitch in with the others who said it works on Juicy 2.4*. So, I've decided to wait for a 2.* version that has no data speed problems and battery drain issues (like everyone on 2.4.1 seems to complain about) and I will flash that one.

there are no battery drain issues or speed problems on 2.4.1
I mentioned I had some issues with speed, but I was playing around with PRL, and a hard reset fixed it.
Well, Juicy's 2.5 don't fix it and neither does MSR1.2. Gonna try GFTC Kitchen 1.04 now.
SSH using Pragma VT or PocketPutty doesn't work. I'm able to login via PragmaVT because, as stated before, it passes login credentials from the program itself.
Make that GFTC 1.05 ROM.
Ok, nope. Doesn't work anywhere.
The only place left to try is TELUS stock ROM. This is the weirdest thing ever.
Solution posted on first post.
Thanks for all the help!

Why don't you try different browsers, you say you already tried IE, what about Opera Mobile 9.7, Opera Mobile 10 beta 2, Skyfire 1.5, ...?
Toyjeep,
You probably have not heard from anyone because no one can help you.
Have you asked someone else with a different phone to see if they can get onto the website? If they can I would suggest you do a hard rest of your phone (after backing up your data first) then loading up net cf 3.7 and see where you go.
Another thought; what version rom are you on at the moment? Version 1.61 is out, albeit not officially released yet. It is said that it solves a whole host of problems. You might find it helpful to go down that route.
Can't suggest anything else I'm afraid. Sorry.
