I search and found something called PocketDyndns, however i never able to reach the site, does anyone know other programs can do ???
Since I want to config my firewall will only allow me to telnet in, however GPRS is not a fix IP, so I hope i set my firewall to recognize the xxx.dyndnd.org all i need is to update my IP to the DNS record.
Ever heard of the hidden, hard-to-find, brand-new and useless search machine Google? Here you can click on the second link and voila!
i know this thread is old, but anyone got any better leads i swear i been up and down and thru that list but whatever was the 2nd link isn't available anymore.
Nor does there seem to be much else.
It would be very convenient for the ftp, http, inbound via GPRS people if a ActiveSync/"Internet" aware PocketPC/Windows Mobile Dynamic IP app was available.
Any ideas?
Yup, it seems it has been completely removed from http://www.networkdweebs.com/stuff/dyndns/ . The parent directory, which is visible ( http://www.networkdweebs.com/stuff/ ) doesn't contain it any more.
Therefore, mail the dev at [email protected] and ask them how you can get the app. Please also post a message in here too if you get any positive answer.
I just find that site...

I just got this phone (HTC Wizard/MDA VArio) as a free upgrade and I spent hours last night trying to hook them both up so I can simply transfer files from one to the other. I couldn't get them to link.
Are they compatable in terms of just transfering files? I was hoping to sync the address book, calender, etc
I have done a search on this forum for things relating to Macs but I'm a bit confused with some of the topics. As you can see I'm a total novice and not very technical so I was wandering if anyone can help me out in terms of easy straightforward answers?
I'm quite familiar with Macs but I've never used PC's/windows before so if I don't get any help I may need to return this phone
Cheers in advance
To my knowledge there is not presently a way to sync the MDA with a Mac, unless of course, you have an Intel-based Mac and Bootcamp installed with a copy of XP.
In time Pocket Mac or the Missing Sync will have a menas of syncing them.
Up to this point I've been transfering my phonebook via bluetooth a few contacts at a time. This is only a temporary measure and a poor one at that.

Don't panic. The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile 5 is worth looking at. It is at alpha version 9 as of this message, and it will allow you to at least get the address book to your phone. That is a huge help.

You can use Bluetooth to send and receive files... it works like a champ... though I'm on the Cingular 8125, so ymmv.
You can send CAB files via Bluetooth to install software. Some silly developers distribute .exe files, and those require some special attention (Open them in VPC, the find the CABs and send the from the Mac via Bluetooth. )
Anyway, don't send it back just yet! We're close.

Have you used Missing Sync? I have not but have heard mixed reviews -- most leaning on the negative.
I've used PocketMac and early versions messed up my address book beyond repair. In all fairness that was the original release version. More recent versions have worked perfectly.
Regardless, neither PM or MS have Windows Mobile 5 support as a stable product at this point.

I'm using Missing Sync 2.5a9 now... the alpha version, with my Cingular 8125. I'm giving it some leeway, it is alpha after all. My address book, calendar data, and tasks are all in tact.
I have no experience with PocketMac, so I can't speak to your experience with it.
that sounds promising. do you need a copy of missing sync to get the alpha?

Yes, and I took the risk ;-) Just be sure to read the mailing list archives before you plunk down the cash... the process is much better with a9, but it still isn't perfect.
The bottom line though is that I have all of my data on my 8125... and that rocks.
hmmmmmm....
so, on your report, i purchased missing sync. the v.2 version installed without issue. i then upgraded to the alpha and now the app won't start up -- it pops up on my screen then disappears. did you have that problem?
i've been perusing the support pages but can't find a solution.
i should rephrase that...the app starts up then quits, as in dead.
looking through their site i must say they have the worst documentation i've seen in recent years.
i've tried dumping the plist files and that doesn't seem to help.

Hi
i am having a problem with browing any website on my PPC, the problem is that when i try to open any webpage it stalls on 1kb and it only opens the page partially.
I read another post and they managed to solve this by selecting the correct encoding which was Western European. is there any other possible reasons why this type of behaviour will be experienced on the device?
hope te hear from the superior knowledge of the forum members.

I had that problem when I used one of the custom roms. When I flashed the stock t-mobile ROM, it went away almost completely. Once in a great while it'll happen but I'm talking like twice since going with a stock rom. Couldn't tell you what the difference was as the stock rom performance was fine and I didn't really care enough to look into it further.

I'm pretty sure it's a connection issue (I've had similar problems with, say, non-CrEme 4.1 + Toonel pre .54 combinations - see http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/ConfigureToonel45.asp for more info).
BTW, what ROM do you have?
MTU settings could it be the reason ??
Hi
Just to let you no, recently i travelled to another country and i decided to get a sim card and test my device in this country, surprisingly it worked fine i could browse with no problems.
only from in my country on my network do i get this strange behaviour.
Do u think its related to the MTU settings ? if i adjust this then mayb it will allow me to browse, judging from your response i noticed that this option that you suggested is to reduce bandwidth usage therefore allowing to view pages faster.
Thanks kindly
reo
Yeah, this seems to be a problem with your wireless operator. (You could still give a try to it in a, say, inexpensive, GPRS-capable "dumb" phone like the S-E t68i / t610 connected to your PDA / notebook)

You can surely give a try to Toonel (I've BTW linked in Toonel because, under WM5, the (old) Java version has exactly the same problems with old(er) Java environments - I've elaborated on this problem a lot in my articles. That is, the problem was similar to that of yours).
thanks for your help it is most informative, i am currently loading the toonel to test and i will post my results here.
thanks again

setup using newer versions of the program, i hope it does not create an incorrect behviour.

Hi
i have managed to setup toonel version .50, using creme 4.21. i have pIE and this all on a WM5 OS.
i did not utilise the link i just executed directly from the toonel.jar file.
now it is running but i would like to just clearify that i done it correctly.
about the connections i used the method u suggested and created a new connection under the top selection which is used for programs to connect directly to the internet and named it toonel, and made all the adjustments on proxy, i also put the details of the modem which is the GPRS connection for my country.
now i am ready to use.
i have a question about the tab in Toonel called WEB, is there any setting that i should have setup in here, it has a an option called Parent Proxy address.
Regards
reo
HI
ok, i had to reset the device for things to start working properly.
now i hve to use the link, it doesnt set creme as the default JVM. so after i execute i get an error saying **cant find class client.WebUI
im sure there it is a path issue, but not sure about where is the web.ui
reo
Don't struggle with the Java version - use the new PPC-based one. See http://pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/ConfigureToonel54.asp .
(Sorry, I've linked in the older Java version because it produced exactly the same symptomps under WM5 as yoour case, not because it's the Toonel version I recommend for you.)
hi
ok, i see. the behaviour i am experincing you noticed it using Toonel java version.
have you get any ideas what could be causing my problem ?
Now we no that it is probably a problem at my network, however is there any way to over come this ?
i actually noticed 1 thing, Magician S100 QTEK works on my network properly!!
any ideas what could be the difference ?
what are the chances that it is related to the UAProfile ? if so how could it effect the browsing ?

no luck with toonnel with "unlimited internet tzones"
now that tzones offers "unlimited internet" ( http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/2006/12/got_tmobile_tzo.html ) I tried to use toonel with my wizard to speed up the connexion but didn't have any chance ... I tried the 3 versions on http://toonel.net/downloads.html (I even installed the Creme JVM) though ... some ports must still be closed ...
any idea/comment anybody ?
PS :
the good thing with "tzones unlimited internet" is that I can now use opera mini, gmail java, google maps java, etc ...
i had the same problem with uk tmobile. i called them and they said it would be fixed soon-and a few days later it was!!

GPRS.exe was a program someone developed here which activated the data connection. Unfortunately, I can't find the original thread, so if someone can point me there this post can be deleted.
I was curious as to who the developer was, and if they could easily pump out a version that doesn't display any pop up messages (New IP or Can't connect), either by default or command line. This is so it can be used in startup scripts for programs that don't connect by default.
Thanks.

This is not what he is looking for, he is looking for GPRS.exe, not NOGRPS, they do completely different things.
As far as having a version of GPRS.exe without messageboxes, I've been looking for that too, but haven't found one yet. Another option, is to use Mortscript which has a function you can call that to connects to the data network.

Doesnt work on HTC Kaiser with official WM06.
Nadav.
I just want to share my recent issues so others will be able to avoid what I am going through.
If you have a Windows Mobile from Softbank (X Series such as X05HT HTC Touch Pro) and are thinking of changing the ROM so you can actually use it, be VERY CAREFUL.
I went through the fun of learning how to install a cooked ROM and was pleasently supprised when everything went well. ROM installed, English was working, Internet was working everything seemed great...
About 2 weeks after I did the ROM upgrade, we got a call from Softbank about our charges. 500,000yen (yes, about $5000US) for Internet Access Packets.
It turns out that the settings applied by Softbank to your phone create the wrong Access Point, meaning your phone uses a AP that is not part of the packet houdai (all you can eat packets)
There is a fix however, so if you are planning to update your ROM with an English one, make sure you use the attached (for X05HT & X04HT only) to get the correct access point.
Otherwise you will be in for a nasty supprise come billing time.
I hope this post saves some people time and pain.
Big thank you to s2k7 for his help on this!
Updated file attachments. Please download and follow the instructions from WIFIWake-X05HT.zip. If you have a X04HT, download both files.

Ouchies. Did they have you pay that data fee?
I just pulled the sim from my 923sh and put it into my diamond and flashed a wwe rom. I found another thread here that says if you go with the AP settings that the connection wizard gives you, it sets you up with the [email protected] ([email protected]) AP. This one charges per 30 seconds as opposed to packets used. Luckily I switched away from this to the OPEN AP soon after.
My Packet Full starts on February 1, so this month I am data-less. Last month my bill was 20,000en. Nowhere near to yours, however. I thought that SB sent a text message at 50,000en (the day after you reach this).
I will give this wifiwake a shot and see what settings it provides. The other thread, created by Larsuck seems to say that if you are on the packetfull (5985en per month max) and with open settings, you shouldn't incur fees.
What kind of email account do you use? Did you set up some kind of gmail and use pop3 with the mail client or do you have an i.softbank.jp account?
Thanks,
Kevin

I use gmail and Exchange. Exchange is the best as it has direct push, but you need someone with a server to set up an account for you, or have one at home. The softbank mail for me isn't worth the hassle, but perhaps that's why I never got a message saying I was over 50000 yen?
Good luck with the WifiWake.
it sounds dangerous when im in doubt if I am using a white plan service (not the packet houdai) and saw my AP all exactly already signed as the AP above: [email protected], will it cause any troubles?
it depends. if you dont stay connected and only use a small amount of traffic you will be ok. otherwise you can expect to pay more then what your phone is worth in just a few days.
WakeOnWifi newbie questions
Hello. Can someone explain to me the following? Where do I execute this WakeOnWifi file? On the phone? On the computer the phone syncs with? I just tried executing on my phone but not sure if that worked since I didn't see anything particular on the screen happening. Also, do I need to execute this every time the phone boots or just once. And how can I check whether my settings are cool now?

How to set up SoftBank's NEW data connection on non-SoftBank ROM
Curtosy of itamae
Step 1. Run either ConnSBM.CAB or ConnSBM_noproxy.CAB for your purpose.
* ConnSBM.CAB: make a connection, overwrite WirelessMgr_Service.dll and enable hidden proxy (webopen.softbank.ne.jp:8080), it is fully compatible as X01HT's standard connection.
* ConnSBM_noproxy.CAB: just make a connection (no WirelessMgr_Service.dll and hidden proxy installation).
* The connection will be created, however password entry is still empty at this moment.
Step 2. Run ORE2cert.cab (self-signature certificate for WIFIwake.exe).
Step 3. Copy Out.xml and WIFIwake.exe (self-signed) into \Windows folder.
Step 4. Just RUN WIFIwake.exe from \Windows.
* The password will be created into the connection made by ConnSBM.CAB.
* To confirm whether success or not, check the connection "Internet > SoftBank", and click "Edit -> Next -> Next". If "****************" is shown at the Password field, the password has been successfully created.

Luckily with the help of some free legal experts from the SHOSHINSHA SENTAA" (消費者センター) in my ku, we were able to demote the charges to 10%, but still ¥50,000 for one month of data is like 1995 prices..
My recommendation to ANYONE on softbank with a Windows mobile or even an iPod/iPad is to make sure you are on PAKE-HOUDAI and if you change your ROM, ensure that you run the WiFiWake application above.
NOTE the WifiWake does not give a prompt or anything. It takes a split second to run, and you will not see anything. To check that it has been successful, follow the instructions above to check the password exists.
How does this compare?

This ZIP is only for the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro. You can try running the contents of the zip on the Desire, but there are no guarantees that it will work. You might like to PM itamae as he seems to be the best source of knowlege on the softbank AP and getting it running.

Hey, I can't remember what the extra packets were charged as when I got caught out by this. But safe to say, if you haven't installed and run the files in this thread on a new ROM there is a good chance that you are getting caught out too.
Check your access point. If when you installed the new ROM, you let the connection wizard create the data connection for you then you will be using the wrong (I.e. expensive) access point. If your access point is anything other then open.softbank.ne.jp then you have the wrong access point and need to run the attached
