SMS for sure. It's got Googles messenger preinstalled. Phone calls. I doubt it. Not out of the box anyway.

For Android version, working fine the app "SMS from Android 4.4" It is on Google Play. Phone calls i can't solve

Strange that none of the reviews i read mentioned it. I mean it would be a very good replacement for my note 2014 lte. which is still a good and usable device - and i can make calls with it.

Carrier removed Phone!

Hello,
I bought a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100, and from some reason, the carrier I bought it from, installed their own ROM and removed the Phone function from the tablet and I can't dial, only use the internet for browsing, so I was wondering, is there a way to bring the phone function back?
Thanks !

If you just bought it - and it is not what it should be - bring it back. Just my .02 cents
Good luck

I don't think it's only the wifi model because I have a SIM card in it already and I'm using the network mobile. But maybe there is a model with SIM but without Phone?

because of some tax issues, some carriers remove the phone option, when the device has cellular phone calls options, it a "phone" and not a "media device" or "computer tab" and the amount of the tax that the carrier (and you) need to pay goes higher, so they remove it to keep the price fair and not to start **** with the government office that in-charge on the mobile phones.
you always have the option to install stock rom with the phone option, it WILL damage your warranty and its on your own risk.
good luck!

Thanks for making it clear! I know I'm a bit late  but I forgot about it.
In order to install stock rom you have to root it first right? is there a guide to do the whole process? (rooting + installing stock rom on galaxy tab 2 10.1?)

or, you could activate google voice, get issued a free phone number
or, you could activate google voice, get issued a free phone number, thats what I did on my wifi only model, it would use your data plan instead, and works great, that way you could give your google number to all the gumbahs and your real number to the real folks in your world. Their are a number of apps that you can use and they work seemlessly with your native app and I had great conversations on voip with no noticeable lag.
Their are a number of 3rd party apps that intergrate with google voice, sign up for the service first, I made a deposit on it years ago and make and take calls on it, no problem, with no charges. If they leave v/m the service transcribes the voice mail and sends it to me via email, which is very nice option, along with spam/call block type features it beats the hell out of what the LEC's offer.

Google gives me a phone number and I will be able to call other phones? or it is more like Skype or Viber - that I can call to people with Skype or Viber only? will the people I call to need to pay something?
**Edit : I searched for "Google Voice" in Play Store but I didnt find it, I think it's not available in my country.
I guess I will need to root and install stock rom, is there a guide for doing it on Galaxy Tab 2 10.1?
So is it possible to make VoIP calls on a wifi only model? Like with GVoice over an internet connection? Or is there a better app?

Record Calls on S4?

Is this available somehow? I know there are threads for the S3, but I don't see anything out yet for the S4. Anyone know of any apps that will record without speakerphone? I have tried everyone I can find, even the Galaxy specific app.
If not an app, then a ROM, modified SecPhone file.. anything?

Might I suggest porting your carrier number to Google Voice? GV integrates well with Sprint, and you have the option of recording calls made through it by pressing a button at any time during the call. And it brings with it plenty of other awesome options.

Good idea. The only thing keeping me from this right now is the early cancellation fee that would happen when I port the number. I'll look through the GV feature list and see if it is worth it.

What cancellation fee? Sprint doesn't charge you anything...they want to encourage integration with Google Voice. And Google certainly doesn't charge you anything. It took me literally ten seconds and cost me nothing.

Yeah, I posted that before completely reading the article I was looking at. I was thinking that a cancellation fee would be charged because that line is technically being taken away from them. But since you are getting another line at the same time, they don't count it as cancellation.
That being said, Google Voice's recording feature will not work for my needs for 2 reasons: (based on the feature lists and articles I read. If this is outdated or inaccurate, feel free to correct me)
1. You can only record outgoing calls. I need to be able to record both calls.
2. When you hit the record button, Google Voice alerts both parties that the call is being recorded. I need it to be anonymous. (Disclaimer before I get hounded about legal issues and privacy: Yes, I understand that there are legal considerations here. My attorney and I have both looked at the laws of my state, and what I am going to be doing is completely legal here. Both I and the other caller reside in the same state.)
Any other ideas for recording on the S4?

Sorry, beats me. I mean, I know other apps exist, but I have not tested them out such that I could speak to their quality or compatibility.
You could install this ROM to have the Call Recorder option.

I haven't tried it yet but there is a tutorial out there on how to install ROMs for different S4's on our phone. I know there are a couple of AT&T users who are using that ROM just fine.

[Q] Strange issue - receiving phone calls

I have never seen this before, and I am hoping someone knows what to do.
After installing Hyperdrive 17.1 when i receive a phone call it will display +1(and the number) even if I have the person as a contact, then if i want to call back i have to remove the + sign before trying otherwise it simply won't do anything. I am not saying this is an issue with the rom (and I really doubt it) maybe something i am missing.. Any idea?
After doing some more research this seems to be related to the Global ready settings, but I can't find how to disable this.

I get a 1 before it too but no +1 and the call back function works fine ... Im on RLS17.1 also ... My phone is unlocked and I am using tmobile but I was using att just a few days ago and it wasn't a problem .. must be something you need to change in your network setting (Possibly)

That sucks ... I would put a post in the Hd thread with this issue .. sbreen is good about answering and fixing .. Im a safestrap user and there is really no other rom that I want to use ... Although they are all good HD has more functions without the need to install xposed framework .. Also the 4way multiwindow is the sh!t... Hats off to all the developers
Several of us with hyperdrive are seeing this. See recent posts in the hyperdrive att rom thread. I started a general q&a thread about it in hopes of finding solution, figuring it is a setting not just specific to that ROM. I hope a solution is found because I like that ROM.

Amazfit - no notifications from phone

Got an AmazFit A1602 watch, Chinese ROM. Set it up, updated it, played with PACEified for a few seconds (hadn't figured out how to OTA the stock ROM yet, so it hung-up when screen went off), went back to Chinese ROM, OTA'd it, reset it in English, and that's where I left it for about a week. Worked great, loved the watch. But, coming from a Gear Live (that wore out), I can't stand not getting my notifications on the watch...
So I dug further into it. Replaced the Chinese ROM with the English ROM - now it thinks it's an A1612 PACE. Kewl. Whatever. App works, everything works, repaired the recovery and OTA works (wellp, now I'm stuck on it, after finding the bootloader is now locked). But NOTIFICATIONS still don't work!
Tried it on a different device - my Nexus 7 tablet. Still no notifications.
Tried reinstalling, tried different app versions, tried everything I can find and think of. No. Notifications.
Do they even work for anyone else?
Another thread on the saga: https://www.reddit.com/r/amazfit/comments/61w4ga/most_notifications_not_coming_through_facebook
I might just offer "ad-free" for anyone that can actually help, throw a bounty out there and see if someone can help me. I usually end up asking the hard questions nobody can answer :fingers-crossed:
Probably you've tried this already but it's worth to repeat procedure.
After you paired the watch with your phone, you have to enable notifications in the app, choose witch notifications you want to allow/block and let the amazfit app to access notifications. Last part is usually under Android settings, security. Sounds complicated but it's good to have full control.
Notifications worsk perfectly for me.

Yep, that's the first thing I try - but I appreciate the reply/bump! I think I might throw that bounty out there (if legal to do so) - I'd throw $15 at this problem to get it fixed. Hopefully that's how the donate option works
I enabled notification access to Amazfit app in the Android settings. Under the "notifications" options in the app, I get a miles-long list of apps on the phone, but they are all under the option to "disallow app notifications" -- no apps appear at the top of the page under "Allow app notifications". Presumably the top section is for apps that have sent notifications.
I also "disable battery optimization" and allow contact access for the watch as well.
My phone is a Huawei Honor 5x (kiwi) running CM13 (20161223 nightly) - but also tried on the Nexus 7 (2013) tablet running stock OS, unrooted.
Each app on that list have a switch on the right to enable notifications and move it to the "Allow app notifications".
Sent from my LG-V940n using Tapatalk
Screenshots how should look like. Latest dev app does not have push notifications but has another tab. Of course, watch must be connected to the phone to be able to receive notifications. But that's obvious Btw, I didn't touch batter optimization.
Btw, Frys still has the watch on $30 off.
p.s.
Now I see that you're my neighbor

That was it!! Goddamn Chingrish... to me, it looked like that settings page was divided into two - apps that had sent notifications in the past, which I could turn off "allow notifications", and apps that hadn't sent notifications and I could "disallow" them from ever doing so. The Chingrish part is that they should be saying "Allowed" and "Disallowed" notifications... not "allow"/"disallow". It simply doesn't make sense to divide them solely by their switch setting... and since I had no intention of disallowing an app's notifications, I never tried switching ones from the bottom! Also doesn't make a lick of sense to disable them all by default - easily seems like it's malfunctioning. I just went through and switched everything up to "allowed" like it is in Android Wear by default.
Wellp, I got a SMS buzz on my wrist for the first time, and everything is awesome now.
Now I have a new problem...

Just sharing my experience. My notifications stopped working and I went through all the above to no avail. Finally I realised I must have accidentally turned on Silent Mode at some point. It may help to check on your watch that Silent Mode is OFF

Gmail doesn't push notifications to watch
Hi all,
I m experiencing this issue and I really cannot understand what is going wrong and why it does it...i recently purchased amazfit stratos English version and I was not very satisfied with the notifications capabilities..i could only see the first email and read it all way down but if a second mail arrived I could only see the gmail logo and a number( indicating the number of the mails that I have) ..but wasn't able to read each message...very frustrating...same for other apps...Viber and line messenger if I receive more than one message I can only read the last one....so I decide to go with the watchdroid app for the phone and assistant for the watch... everything is running smoothly now,I can even reply to messages (for some reason only sms messages not Viber or line) BUT I do NOT receive my mails from gmail...something that with the amazfit app I could...well I could not read them if they were more than one but the push service was working...with watchdroid gmail push notifications do not work....any help would be appreciated guys!
Thanks in advance,
Stratos

Recording phone calls

I am tired of trying out hundreds of apps to find a way that lets me record phone calls with both participants being audible. I know there are some Android systemic restrictions, but since I live in a country where call recordings are legal, I'd really like to have that opportunity.
Can someone tell me:
What are the restrictions on Android, specifically up to date OxygenOS
On a rooted phone, are there other avenues to explore?
What is your experience?
Are there apps that let you record such calls with a headset?
Thanks.

Someone already posted that link as a reply to my question, but for some mysterious reason this post isn't there anymore.
I've gone the Magisk way of doing what I needed and it works well.
Thank you anyway!
