converting a Verizon HTC 10 to a stock one from HTC - Verizon HTC 10 Questions & Answers

So around the time of late July I got the HTC 10 on Verizon. I have always planned to root the phone and install a custom recovery and ROM but I have never gotten the time to do so. I have multiple experiences before with rooting and installing custom recoverys/Roms on my Nexus 7 2013. After I saw the nougat release on the HTC 10 I have been wondering if I can convert my verizon HTC 10 to a stock version of it without the bloatware and the newest version of Android. With the ability to still work on Verizon, if I can get any feedback on this it will be greatly appreciated.

Confuse over HTC Magic OTA

Hi guys, I am a recent convert from iPhone 3G. Whenever Apple releases new OS update for the iPhone, it will be available for the users, how about Google's Android OS? Will the update be made available to all the Android phones?
I have a 'HTC' branded HTC magic and I notice that my phone does not have the OTA feature. How do I update my OS?
Please advise. Thanks.
You can update it manually. I think you get problems if your phone is rooted though. I personally think that the custom ROMs released here are a few steps ahead anyways
Where would I be able to download it?
from the Android page? HTC or?
I would also like to know where i get the OTA updates offline

New Sprint HTC 10 root?

I am about to go buy a Sprint HTC 10. I know in general the device has root, I just want to check to make sure that I can root this phone regardless of what updates it has. If it already has Android Nougat installed and any other updates is it still root-able?
edit: with radio?
Yes, it can be rooted regardless.
thank you very much

Buying HTC 10 - Questions about conversion

Hi All,
I currently own a HTC 9 and looking to upgrade to a HTC 10! I want a 10 that is rooted, s-off, and with a "Santod" Rom, which is what I have on my 9!! My question(s) are if I buy a new unused 10, what ever software level it comes with, I will have to add all hardware upgrades sequentially(depending on software level that could be alot and take a lot of time). Do I root first, than add all hardware updates - or update hardware first then root and s-off? I wanted to do all this while still using my 9! Any ideas or suggestions?? Thank you

Not sure what you mean by hardware upgrades, but if your Verizon HTC comes with Nougat, then you'll have to mail it in to the Sunshine team to get s-off and root ability. With Marshmallow software you can still use the sunshine app to s-off, so if yours comes with marshmallow, do the s-off procedure first before doing anything else. After that, instead of taking each software update sequentially, you could download the latest Verizon RUU and run that to get straight to the latest software version.
Thanks for replying! I have ordered my new 10, but don't have it yet! I know in cruising around these threads that there are 11 firmware upgrades based when the 10 was first announced. I don't know the software level of the 10 I'm purchasing, and was nervous about how to go through the process and the order of - s-off, root, recovery, firmware upgrade and custom ROM I didn't know that flashing the most recent RUU from Verizon would contain all the firmware updates.. I did know to ask all XDA followers and they would help me out Thank you

Root, unlock, s-off VZW HTC 10 after OREO OTA

Hi,
I have a stock HTC 10 running Nougat right now. It is not bootloader unlocked, rooted, or s-off yet. I plan on sending it in to sunshine soon. However, I just got the OTA notification for OREO. I am afraid to install it, since I don't don't want to ruin the possibility of me getting s-off and root. Does anyone know if the Oreo OTA affects the paths to root or s-off? Should I avoid it until after I'm s-off? Is there a chance that the OTA will actually make root/s-off easier? Has anyone tested that yet?
Sooner is always smarter than later. Sounds like a question for the sunshine team.

This is what it says for the latest version:
SunShine is our bootloader unlock/s-off tool for Motorola and HTC phones. We currently support most HTC phones, and Droid Turbo, Moto X (2014), Moto X (2013), MotoG (2013) and Droid Maxx/Mini/Ultra on Android 4.4.3 and lower. All modern HTC devices (m9 m7 m8 e8 Mini2 remix dna etc) devices are supported up to 7.1.1, as long as they are rootable. SunShine can work without pre-rooting all 4.4.3 and below devices, and some 4.4.4 and 5.x devices. Some 5.0 and above users will have to root with HTCDev.com. Verizon M7 5.0.x users will have to temp root with the Kingroot app. DROID TURBO 2 IS NOT SUPPORTED
Yea they don't say anything about Oreo, though. Guess we'll have to wait until someone is brave enough to try it

My recollection is that anything past Marshmallow on the Verizon 10 and you're in mail-in territory. I can't imagine that Oreo somehow cures that.
I was on Sunshine IRC with a similar question. I bought a refurbished 10 on N and asked if I should take the O OTAs or mail it as is for unlock. The response I got is that it didn't make a difference, and that I could send it either way.
Shipped mine as was. N August 2017 update .23
Flashed the latest firmware from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70340070&postcount=2
This one >> 3.18.605.13 Combined Firmware with stock boot.img and stock recovery removed(will NOT wipe)
Used TWRP (installed to my device with SS mail unlock service) to install the latest Oreo OS (OP prior link) with options as suggested here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76271053&postcount=624
All is well.
