Buying HTC 10 - Questions about conversion - Verizon HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I currently own a HTC 9 and looking to upgrade to a HTC 10! I want a 10 that is rooted, s-off, and with a "Santod" Rom, which is what I have on my 9!! My question(s) are if I buy a new unused 10, what ever software level it comes with, I will have to add all hardware upgrades sequentially(depending on software level that could be alot and take a lot of time). Do I root first, than add all hardware updates - or update hardware first then root and s-off? I wanted to do all this while still using my 9! Any ideas or suggestions?? Thank you
Bill

Not sure what you mean by hardware upgrades, but if your Verizon HTC comes with Nougat, then you'll have to mail it in to the Sunshine team to get s-off and root ability. With Marshmallow software you can still use the sunshine app to s-off, so if yours comes with marshmallow, do the s-off procedure first before doing anything else. After that, instead of taking each software update sequentially, you could download the latest Verizon RUU and run that to get straight to the latest software version.

Thanks for replying! I have ordered my new 10, but don't have it yet! I know in cruising around these threads that there are 11 firmware upgrades based when the 10 was first announced. I don't know the software level of the 10 I'm purchasing, and was nervous about how to go through the process and the order of - s-off, root, recovery, firmware upgrade and custom ROM I didn't know that flashing the most recent RUU from Verizon would contain all the firmware updates.. I did know to ask all XDA followers and they would help me out Thank you

getting official ROM after rooting

Hello,
So everybody is bummed about not getting the 2.1 update from htc. And also for me waiting untill june is to long. So i've desided to root my Hero and instal the legend-ROM. So far it's clear.
I've done some reading before rooting, so I do not have a question about that. But some hing's are not that clear to me. SO if I root my Hero, i will loose the possibility to accept the OTA update. But is is possible to get the official update anyway, when it comes in June?
And will i lose my rooting indefinitely, or is it possible to get the rooting again after getting the official ROM?
These are the last thing i would like to know before rooting.
Thanks in advance!
You will be able to install the official Rom if not by OTA there will be an RUU on the HTC website.
If you install that you will lose root and chances are never be able to root again.
If you wait like 10 minutes or so after its release there will be pre-rooted version available on this website, so just install one of those.
Awsome! Fast and great reply.
Didn't think of that.
Everyone working on developing here are getting my thanks!
I wil start rooting my hero imidiately!

2.2.2 streak rom question

I just recently picked up a dell streak. It's brand new with what I'm guessing it the latest shipped rom which is build number 15274 running android version 2.2.2
All I see is custom roms and reflashing back to other roms to root....blah blah blah...is there a way to just root my current rom and not have to flash a completely new one? I'm all for supporting the community, I'd just like to keep this as device as clean as possible and remove all the bloatware.

Download SuperOneClick v1.5.5 and root away. Dont forget to put your phone into USB debugging mode before rooting, its very important that you do that. Or just follow the steps in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925853 good luck.
Wow thanks, I totally skipped over that post!!! I guess from what I was reading I was expecting the whole process to be a lot more complicated.
Thanks a ton!
Anytime.

How come Dell don't push out the 2.2.2 version OTA to their customers?
I check for updates every day, but have just once received any. (2.2)
Their way of saying; "we just don't give a f*ck about our customers"?
You should have gotten that update weeks ago. It's been OTA for probably about a month now. And I don't know how much you've read, but a lot of what happened with not updating from 1.6 was probably AT&T's fault because they wouldn't okay the build (speculated). Dell had the source up for 2.2 for a long time, if I remember correctly.
I'm on unlocked stock EU ROM since day one. Just to clarify.
Do you mean the 2.2.2 was shipped OTA, for EU users too?
Ohhh. Didn't notice you were on EU. I don't know if Dell released one for EU yet (probably hasn't since you don't have the option to OTA). Just remember that it's not just the phone maker responsible for updates, the carrier has some say in it, too. Are you still on 1.6? Because you could always try out DJ Steve's ROM if you wanted to try something different.
No, the one OTA update I received, was the 1.6 --> 2.2 on last October.
Since then - nothing. I guess it's only in America people get the 2.2.2.
Thanx for taking time to reply.
No problem, haha. I hope you get it soon
I really want the update to, I'm in the Uk and I'm still on 2.2, I would do it myself but its just to complicated and don't wanna mess up my phone. Has anyone in the Uk got the 2.2.2 upgrade? And to be honest I really wont the 2.3 upgrade, but seeing as we still don't have the 2.2.2 upgrade, I think we'll be waiting a long time :'(
2.2.2?
If someone updated from 1.6, to the "non official" 2.2, is there any difference between it and 2.2.2?
2.2.2 is supposedly immune to the malware loaded from the 50 or so infested apps that Google removed recently from the market.

Questions about rooting before I buy a note 4

I'm looking to buy a note 4 now that custom roms and perm root has been achieved. I already know to make sure the android version is no more then 5.1.1, but one thing was throwing me off in reading up on this.
Some guides mention to "make sure the CID starts with 15". Others don't. I may be entirely wrong here, because I don't know what CID stands for, or what it is, but I'm getting the impression that CID 15 is a software number for the developers model of the phone. I've also read it's possible to convert the note 4 into thinking it is a developers model of the phone. So that would mean I don't need to worry about buying a model that's already CID 15, because it will be taken care of later. Is this correct?
My questions are....
How do I prevent my phone from starting up, and immediately downloading 6.0 or 6.1 or whatever the latest update is, before I root? How do I block those updates without root?
Whats the best newb friendly guide on this forum for going from day 1 bought, to custom roms and perm root? Basically an "everything at once" guide. Assuming I don't even have the phone yet, don't have temp root, haven't changed the CID yet, ect ect ect. I want to start reading these guides so I can get myself familiar with the process.
I read either here or on reddit that kingroot puts spyware on the phone. Is this true?
Anyone know a good place to buy the note 4? I'd be looking for the verizon version.
Anything I should know that I don't even know to ask about? My last (current) phone is on it's dieing legs. It's an HTC thunderbolt from 2011. I was running android 2.2. Yes, I know. It's old. I haven't experienced a post 2.2 android OS, so this is going to be basically 5 years worth of "HOLY **** LOOK WHAT THEY ADDED!!!" moment for me.
What are the differences between different model numbers. I keep seeing (SM-N910V) in the videos I've been watching, but I have no context as to if that's good, or bad, or what it means.
Will this fast charging thing work with ROMS?
I recently decided to completely start fresh with my rooted Note 4 (I have a N910H - Exynos). I factory reset, wiped, then downloaded the latest firmware from Sammobile. I thought I just go completely stock.
After flashing through ODIN I was on MM 6.0.1, stock.
Then I wanted to root. It was easy, so I don't think to have to worry about updates or anything, it is easy to root, whatever version (AFAIK for the Exynos versions)

New Sprint HTC 10 root?

I am about to go buy a Sprint HTC 10. I know in general the device has root, I just want to check to make sure that I can root this phone regardless of what updates it has. If it already has Android Nougat installed and any other updates is it still root-able?
edit: with radio?
Yes, it can be rooted regardless.
thank you very much

Should I root or wait for the update?

It is already mid April and no fix date on the release of Oreo update. I am not very concerned about the security patches but I would love to try out new features before purchasing another device. So, is it better to root and try out new oreo based ROMs or just wait for the update?

hi..if device still under warranty better ignored it..
You should wait for the office release if you are not experienced with flashing and root.
Btw think about the following questions:
1. why do i need a new phone after 2 years?
2. which feature do i really need that my current phone isnt capable to handle nearly the same?
3. If you get a phone 4 free via your provider: Couldnt i save money if i had a cheaper mobile plan?
Regards
Wait for the Oreo update then root or install custom rom. Oreo might be the last major update for S7/edge.

Even if you root your phone, you will be always back to stock, cause stock rom is the most stable fw less bug(for me)
Im suggesting you that you dont need to be rooted, wait for the official release,if you are looking for feature rich phone and can afford to buy latest flagship then go for it,but think about it,technology becoming more advanced and high-tech,so every year upgrade doesnt worth it,id rather wait for s10 or s11,im sure after some years we will have a new technology for mobile phone ?
Thank you all for the replies. Anyway, my phone isn't under warranty and I don't care about securities. Last thing I wanna know is will I be able to receive updates after I root and go back to pure stock.

You won't get any OTA updates. You'd have to download and flash any future updates, in which case you'd have to re root again too.
If you want OTA updates again flash Stock
