Confuse over HTC Magic OTA - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi guys, I am a recent convert from iPhone 3G. Whenever Apple releases new OS update for the iPhone, it will be available for the users, how about Google's Android OS? Will the update be made available to all the Android phones?
I have a 'HTC' branded HTC magic and I notice that my phone does not have the OTA feature. How do I update my OS?
Please advise. Thanks.

You can update it manually. I think you get problems if your phone is rooted though. I personally think that the custom ROMs released here are a few steps ahead anyways

Where would I be able to download it?
from the Android page? HTC or?

I would also like to know where i get the OTA updates offline

OTA updates

sorry if I sound totally out and stupid, but are ota updates available for the Rogers HTC Magic? Or is this something that has yet to be made available up in Canada?
It's not stupid at all... I wander how to make my mobile OTA capable...
Does changing images makes OTA capable or OTA is clean googles cupcake OS?
I've been searching on xda and hofo, but haven't found any info on rogers updates.
I'd like to know if the rooted boot.img would prevent this update from installing. Can you change the title of this thread to something like "rogers ota updates"?

i am looking for this too. i have a rooted rogers rom running on my HTC Magic. wondering if i can get it updated.
There is a manual download link for it on phandroid. and there is 2 flavours. US and UK. Which one should i take if i can update it that way. I am in Malaysia btw.
anyone? i really want to know if the update will work..
Im intersted as well, Im going to be purchasing a magic as soon as i get some questions answered. I want as full of a google experience as possible, so I would like the OTA updates, and I would like to be able to run the hero rom, which is why I would need the "rogers" magic.
No you wont be getting OTA updates from Rogers. They do not support there phone OS's just hardware, you'll have to email HTC for any updates. I had to go to Sony and Nokia for my last phones, said the same thing this time.
By the way the last OTA updates were security updates, I've read that it has caused problems for Rooted phones.

I've rooted and flashed the rom on my phone.
I don't think I will receive any OTA updates because of this but even if I do I will decline to download it.
The roms being cooked on here will be better then any single update i'm asked to download.
I mean the devs are already ripping apart the Donut development code as we speak!!
You will not be recieving OTA updates on the rogers branded magic because it is not a google experience phone (it does not have the with google logo on the back). In your case you will have to decide which you need more, the sense ui, or ota updates. Remember, "with google" phones will most likely not be getting the sense update officially.

Also have to remember that any of the "with Google" phones have 192MB of RAM where the Rogers has 288MB of RAM. Which alows running the Sense UI properly.

Ok. So OTA wont come to me.
But if i use the update link manually, will it make my phone go haywire?
will i lose root access?
I am also looking for this solution for OTA updates

No software update under settings?

This was something I noticed since HTC has been updating the EVO, Droid, etc to Android 2.2. The Aria doesn't allow you to check for software updates under Settings > About Phone like is says on their manual and website.
So what's up with that? For those that haven't rooted their phones and when 2.2 is released on the Aria we'll have to wait for AT&T to push the OTA update?
No early adopters allowed, unless rooted of course. lol
I don't remember where I saw it, but I think the stock ROM currently is unable to accept an OTA update. It's supposed to be included with the 2.2 ROM whenever that happens. So it'll probably be a download on the HTC site when the time comes, which is supposed to be before the end of the year.
yeah, theres no OTA with the stock sense rom; when 2.2 gets its official release, it will be a download through either at&t or htcs website.
i would suggest simply rooting your phone and installing attn1s CM6, which is a full on 2.2 rom.

[Q] Root 2.2 and new Android updates

It looks like version 3 for EVO Android will be released. If I root my version 2.2, what happens - will there be a problem with the phone, what has to be done, will the phone still be rooted?
Just don't accept the OTA update and wait for the geniuses do their business here.

[Q] Force OS update

I bought an AT&T Focus and I've discovered its got an old version of the OS on it. I suspect the phone I bought was a testing/engineering version...
I'd like to update the OS/Firmware/Radio/Whatever else to the newest versions. I saw the ROMS updates for other phones, but not for the focus. How do I update my phone?
From the phone update screen, it shows "no updates found"... is there a way for me to force it to recheck?
Thanks in advance

Post the version(s) you have here and other Focus users could compare.
roms
where did you find other roms, I think the focus is the only wp7 phone without a rom floating around.
You should just return the phone to the place where you boughted if you believe your phone comes with an older OS (highly doubt it). In AT&T stores, demo units often are loaded with a Demo ROM which has a different versions than the stock ones.
WP7 OS updates come directly from Microsoft via Zune software on your PC. The first such promised update has yet to come.

Buying HTC 10 - Questions about conversion

Hi All,
I currently own a HTC 9 and looking to upgrade to a HTC 10! I want a 10 that is rooted, s-off, and with a "Santod" Rom, which is what I have on my 9!! My question(s) are if I buy a new unused 10, what ever software level it comes with, I will have to add all hardware upgrades sequentially(depending on software level that could be alot and take a lot of time). Do I root first, than add all hardware updates - or update hardware first then root and s-off? I wanted to do all this while still using my 9! Any ideas or suggestions?? Thank you

Not sure what you mean by hardware upgrades, but if your Verizon HTC comes with Nougat, then you'll have to mail it in to the Sunshine team to get s-off and root ability. With Marshmallow software you can still use the sunshine app to s-off, so if yours comes with marshmallow, do the s-off procedure first before doing anything else. After that, instead of taking each software update sequentially, you could download the latest Verizon RUU and run that to get straight to the latest software version.
Thanks for replying! I have ordered my new 10, but don't have it yet! I know in cruising around these threads that there are 11 firmware upgrades based when the 10 was first announced. I don't know the software level of the 10 I'm purchasing, and was nervous about how to go through the process and the order of - s-off, root, recovery, firmware upgrade and custom ROM I didn't know that flashing the most recent RUU from Verizon would contain all the firmware updates.. I did know to ask all XDA followers and they would help me out Thank you
