Requesting info on converting XT907 to wifi-only device - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an unlocked rooted xt907 running official Verizon KK 4.4.2, 183.46.15, and I would like to convert it to a wifi device.
Haven't found a specific ROM for this purpose. Any suggestions?
I have Titanium Backup Pro, so I am also wondering if this can be done by freezing the appropriate apks. And if so which ones exactly?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Add ro.com.android.mobiledata=false to your build.prop and your phone should disable all cellular data.

Thank you, rockon999.
So you said the build.prop addition should disable all "cellular data"--does that include the phone radio as well as data? And would you expect this to cause any issues with any system apks?
Also, are you saying I just need to do a simple root edit of build.prop -- no need to build rom?
I should do some studying, I know.... If anyone is interested in learning, I found some good stuff here.
Thanks again.

Need help building a rom that doesnt have spr bloatware and visual vmail

Im trying to see if someone can help me build and compile like a generic TW rom with all of my local carrier's information so that I can actually get voicemail and not have to worry about sprint's error 67. Root - if you're not already via CF-Autoroot. [do some searching it's right here]
Go to Playstore install Titanium Backup Root and then purchase Titanium Backup Pro license - WORTH EVERY PENNY.
Open up titanium and then go to Backup/Restore select what ever apps you don't want and then delete them. You can delete nearly all Sprint and Samsung stuff. BAM done.

Error 67 is a data error and usually means it wasn't flashed over correctly

The issue is that I already did that and made my own custom boot logo but the thing that isn't helping is that Visual Voicemail is preventing me from knowing when I have received new voicemail. I unfortunately don't know how to decompile the system to change that setting so im branching out to everyone for help

no, error 67 is because the phone is simply trying to look for Sprint's Activation servers to update the profiles. The way you get past that is to flash a custom rom that is not related to sprint. I had a Sprint Galaxy S II Epic Touch and it had that error. I got past it by flashing the Generic R760 firmware and then reflashing the radios for the D710 using ODIN.
in all, I want to compile a generic firmware!

WiFi Tether 4.4.4 - Requires Root

This is for anyone who has root on 4.4.4 but also has write protection enabled. (Used SuperSU to keep root through the update).
This app will allow you to enable the native WiFi tether without modifying the system (Which we can't do anyways). I have been using this for about an hour with no issues.
Finally, I didn't make this, I'm just someone who's stuck between places and need WiFi tethering for my job and hate spending money. Use at your own risk of course.

Yeah i just made the connection now. Forgot not everyone has unlocked BLs. In theory, if the app can make the change, you can too.
The app literally applies the same exact exploit as the one I've already released.

No it does not, it runs a command after the phone is booted that while requiring root to run does not make any actually changes to the system.
Again, I have a 1 for write protection (meaning its enabled) and SuperSU basically stuck in System and have no issues running the app, making WiFi hot spots, and having devices connected to it.
Make sure you have root survival set up as well, I'm not sure if the update would remove root without it but I don't think you would want to take that chance.

I attempted this exploit by you TopSnake ( http://bit.ly/1zz1JOE) and after rebooting my build.prop was deleted and all renamed files were restored to their original state. Was there another exploit you were talking about? This was the only one I could find in the dev section for the latest update.
I do know that you can run a simple command to do what this app does but this app can run on boot up which saves some time.

The OP stated he was write protected, so he can't copy the build.prop over the stock one. My app doesn't write to the system it runs the /system/bin/setprop command to set the property. The build.prop sets the property on boot but after the phone has booted the build.prop is never read again. So replacing it on write protected devices won't work.

SM-G900R6 VZW LRA Partner Carrier Variant Help Thread

Hi all, just came to the S5. My carrier (in my case, Bluegrass Cellular) is a carrier partnered with Verizon's LRA Rural LTE program.
More info can be found here. http://www.verizonwireless.com/news/2012/05/4g-lte-goes-live-in-rural-america.html
https://opennetwork.verizonwireless...s-modules/devices/SMG900R6_GalaxyS5_2808.html
This thread is intended to help others with this variant of the S5.
I thought I would take the lead in helping the small community with this phone looking to root and run custom roms as we did in the S4 thread in the Verizon S4 Help/QA Thread.
* our other thread for the S4, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453312 *
We get our LTE phones from Verizon, and they are close-nearly clone variants of their original Verizon version. For example, for the Galaxy S4 I just moved from, SCH-545 (VZW) VS SCH-I545L (LRA) which even had an identical partition table. This s5 variant is in many ways equal to the Verizon dev edition. Also further evidence to support a mostly Verizon clone these phones share the same fcc id, a3l-smg900v
Status: What I've tried so far.
Root: Geohot's Towelroot worked successfully.
RECOVERY: UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER! use twrp or cwm whatever you please.
Kernel: I use ktoonsez kernel. Works perfectly. Highly recommended, this guy's work is amazing.
Custom ROM: installed and working! VZW custom roms work. If you guys want to try Verizon roms, just edit build prop to lra info, you can find it thread.. Just remember to restore apn aswell and it works perfectly. You can use kitkat TW roms like Alliance rom, OptimalROM, extreme syndicate etc.. some aosp roms work with (patch not needed) some roms have unexplained issues..i dont know what to do about them. Remember to flash kernel of choice (highly recommend ktoonsez) after rom aswell. Have fun!
I will update as I go along, anyone can feel free to post. Welcome any and all who have this phone for any questions.

Yes and yes. I've been trying custom vzw roms but there's a few unresolved issues (phone wakeups and other things, plus ne9 based roms don't work properly) etc I can't figure out. I'm back to stock but with tons of build prop tweaks, running like a champ. I can share with you if you like. What have you tested?

Mine says nothing about boot. I'll try to do a backup and find a camera to show you later.
I tried Alliance slimhyde and extreme syndicate. I think They have problems with our firmware tho. Works mostly, apns are restorable , but have issues with Android.com.phone wakeup, can't figure out but it causes high system drain. If you're OK with less than stock battery life, try it. I'm trying to investigate the differences that cause problems I experience.

Thanks for this thread it will come in handy in the future. Plan on staying stock for now but may root for the MoaAB list. I have the R6 through my tiny carrier in Michigan Thumb Cellular.
So does each LRA carrier release software updates at different times? I'm on NF2 as well. Will root cause update errors?

The lra carriers should release all at once, updates are pushed from Samsung. Root can cause errors but you can unroot and restore system changes. It will block ota alerts tho, but I have an Xposed module that bypasses the root check so I'll still get notified of an update. Safestrap backups also help out a ton, so you can make a stock system backup to restore later etc.

Band 12 is hardly in any devices yet. Not even the new iPhones. I'm hoping for 2, 5 and 17 (band 4 and 13 are a given) that way if I ever want to sell it, it will work on T-Mobile and AT&T.

i did, says nothing about boot. everything else is ok. as far as testing the build prop, easiest way is probably to make a backup, and install build.prop editor app. it will create a romtoolbox folder on phone, then in that folder you should see build prop backups. paste it in there, open up app and restore it.
Hey guys
Has anyone tried to use a GSM Sim card? US or international, to test GSM capabilities of this model? Technically this phone should be an unbranded, unbloated Verizon model, which is SIM unlocked for US/Intl. carriers, unless the software restricts it.
Since our carriers use band 13 LTE like Verizon, it has to be unlocked.
I'm just curious what LTE bands it has.

935U firmware?

Has anyone tested installing the 935U firmware that's been brought up on the ATT S7 Edge forum?
Thinking about trying but would feel better if someone beat me to it!
I just finished installing this firmware (have yet to root it). Running smooth so far and includes everything Verizon removed like the Whitepages integration, etc. The only thing is that there is no HD Voice Calling, or any other carrier specific additions. I am however downloading the Verizon firmware for the SM-G935U version to see if HD Voice, etc. is added with that firmware.

Not sure how to get the Visual Voicemail app back. I am in the process of downloading the SM-G935U firmware from SamMobile that specifically states (Verizon). I'm wanting to see if I can either install the entire firmware package or just the CSC portion to get the advanced calling features back. I'll let you know if I'm successful or not.
Edit: Just extracted the Verizon version of the SM-G935U firmware and all files are exactly the same as the ones from the other post. Same names, file sizes, etc. so looks like a no go.

I'll try later this evening. I'll have to flash the Verizon PE1 firmware, re-root and try to pull the files from there then flash the 935U firmware, root and try to add the files that way.
Thanks everyone! I think I'll download the firmware and give it a go!
I've done it, everything works fine but you lose all Verizon apps. IMO that's a good thing. We should be able to flash the csc file eventually.
Does this have the multiuser feature of Android? Or will it be possible for someone to add that to an upcoming Rom? I'd love the ability to have multiple users on a phone

Anyone know what's up with that? I'll be traveling a lot next month, so it's kinda important that I be able to do that...
Does Samsung pay still work with this? I don't really mind not having hd voice and I actually prefer Google voice for my VVM. I actually use Samsung pay quite often though so it would be a shame to lose it.

I'll grab some screenshots of what I changed in the CSC Features Experts here in a bit. I currently returned to the Verizon firmware so I can grab the CSC file and compare it to the CSC file from the 935U firmware. I'll also see if I can root the 935U firmware, make mods, then flash just the AP portion of the 935U firmware to get rid of the EngBoot (unroot) to see if the mods stick.

First you will need to root and download a root file manager. I use FX File Explorer and the root add on. After that open the others file in system/csc with a text editor and look for the following line and change FALSE to TRUE. Save the file and reboot. Then it will be in your settings menu.

Just wanted to ensure everyone here knows that root was achieved for Snapdragon processors. I had nothing to do with this except to root my Note 8 based on the below link.
See thread below for instructions.

What is the possibility of a fix so that we can charge the battery to 100%?

0% without terrible hacks that require the phone be unusable. It's built into the combo/eng bootloader that makes root possible

I see, Thank you for that information. I guess I will wait to see if Xposed Framework is made to work with this device.
My only real draw to rooting is the Per App DPI and a modified hotspot app

They were able to overcome this with the S7, and Keep samsung pay working so I am hopeful they will find a way for the note8.
It might take awhile but it will come. Other than 1 or 2 mods i feel no need to root. But I would like to have the dual speaker mod.
Peace
This setup runs very smooth and fast. System root, no lag. Very resource friendly.
how do you like root so far? I just put the unlocked version would it be worth going to the rooted version?
Rooted then reverted back to stock but now I can't get any of the stock Verizon apps back ie visual voicemail app. Does anybody know how to get these back? I wanna be able to update to Oreo later on without any issues.

I don't have one, I want one though. If all else fails, after rooting I was able to the ADB trick, but I still have to turn off mobile data, turn on hotspot, turn mobile data back on.
I really want to be able to click the hostpot button and have it just turn on.

Did you flash the userdata partition when returning to stock?

Thanks for your reply.
I heard about doing that but didn't know how. I do know that I have the Verizon boot up screen and the 4G LTE logo for the data. It looks like I got HD voice but not for video. I can't even get WiFi calling to activate too.
If you could help me that would be great otherwise I might have to do a warranty replacement which is a last resort that I don't want to do in the first place.

Hi, were you able to flash the userdata partition? I'm not sure how to do this or if I even have the necessary file if needed. I was able to get the UMS button to show with your instruction but now I'm stuck.

Is this under the option tab or UMS button? Do I need another file? Seems like I'm missing something. I'm going to do a search here in the mean time. Btw it seems like I have to use Comsy Odin 3.12 to flash my files without errors.
Thanks for all of your help so far.
Ok looks like I finally was able to get all my Verizon apps back on it. I had to download the N950U firmware which had the USERDATA file that I needed to flash. I'm not sure why there is even a N950U1 firmware to begin with.
I have the August security patch and is still have the U1 baseband. WiFi calling is working but I didn't activate my visual voicemail yet but the app is there though. I didn't activate video calling yet because I would need to setup basic voicemail service first.
Thanks again for all of the help guys.
