935U firmware? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Has anyone tested installing the 935U firmware that's been brought up on the ATT S7 Edge forum?
Thinking about trying but would feel better if someone beat me to it!

I just finished installing this firmware (have yet to root it). Running smooth so far and includes everything Verizon removed like the Whitepages integration, etc. The only thing is that there is no HD Voice Calling, or any other carrier specific additions. I am however downloading the Verizon firmware for the SM-G935U version to see if HD Voice, etc. is added with that firmware.

I also just installed this on my Verizon S7 Edge. Like you, no major problems at all, just missing carrier specific features.
Would you happen to know of any way to get the Visual Voicemail app back? That's all I really care about. If someone finds a way to add in the advanced calling features, even better.

Not sure how to get the Visual Voicemail app back. I am in the process of downloading the SM-G935U firmware from SamMobile that specifically states (Verizon). I'm wanting to see if I can either install the entire firmware package or just the CSC portion to get the advanced calling features back. I'll let you know if I'm successful or not.
Edit: Just extracted the Verizon version of the SM-G935U firmware and all files are exactly the same as the ones from the other post. Same names, file sizes, etc. so looks like a no go.

I'll try later this evening. I'll have to flash the Verizon PE1 firmware, re-root and try to pull the files from there then flash the 935U firmware, root and try to add the files that way.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll download the firmware and give it a go!

I've done it, everything works fine but you lose all Verizon apps. IMO that's a good thing. We should be able to flash the csc file eventually.

Does this have the multiuser feature of Android? Or will it be possible for someone to add that to an upcoming Rom? I'd love the ability to have multiple users on a phone

Alright, one issue I've noticed: I can't add or edit APN settings.
Anyone know what's up with that? I'll be traveling a lot next month, so it's kinda important that I be able to do that...

Does Samsung pay still work with this? I don't really mind not having hd voice and I actually prefer Google voice for my VVM. I actually use Samsung pay quite often though so it would be a shame to lose it.

It works for me on Verizon. I haven't tried actually paying for anything yet, but the app loads and functions just fine from what I can see.

Were you able to change the APN settings? Also, do you know the differences between all the g935U firmwares (VZW vs TMo vs AT-T...)?

Can you elaborate on the steps to make advanced calling work with CSC Features Experts? I've never used, is it obvious?
Can't you root, make mods, then unroot?

I'll grab some screenshots of what I changed in the CSC Features Experts here in a bit. I currently returned to the Verizon firmware so I can grab the CSC file and compare it to the CSC file from the 935U firmware. I'll also see if I can root the 935U firmware, make mods, then flash just the AP portion of the 935U firmware to get rid of the EngBoot (unroot) to see if the mods stick.

First you will need to root and download a root file manager. I use FX File Explorer and the root add on. After that open the others file in system/csc with a text editor and look for the following line and change FALSE to TRUE. Save the file and reboot. Then it will be in your settings menu.
Before:
Code:
<CscFeature_Common_SupportHuxAdvancedCalling>FALSE</CscFeature_Common_SupportHuxAdvancedCalling>
After:
Code:
<CscFeature_Common_SupportHuxAdvancedCalling>TRUE</CscFeature_Common_SupportHuxAdvancedCalling>

Is there an advantage to having the this firmware installed over just rooting the Verizon firmware?

How to root the T-Mobile Note 7 using the sprint leaked firmware.

Here's how you do it: Follow the EXACT SAME GUIDE FROM THE SPRINT NOTE 7 SECTION!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-note-7/how-to/root-super-leaky-bros-sprint-galaxy-t3447202
To get LTE to work again just add the T-Mobile APN (not that hard).
Also, you might want to freeze all the "Sprint OMADM" packages with titanium backup once you're rooted (will cause less of a hassle everytime you boot. I understand the devs in the "all things root" thread are holding this from you because they want to fix wifi calling but I think giving you root at all will tie you over for now. Also, I'm having problems downloading the gear VR apps with this so it's related to following this tutorial.
Thank you so much to the developers who made this possible for the Sprint note 7 and for everyone who brought this to the other variants (the T-Mobile note 7 was the easiest imo). It's a little funny to think that this whole time it was this easy and we could've been rooted all along. *If you really need the T-Mobile firmware rooted so you can enjoy wifi calling I've been working on something for a few hours but it's not ready.*
T-Mobile APN: https://bestmvno.com/apn-settings/t-mobile-apn-settings/
Edit: YouTube video added.
Here's the APN information for T-Mobile if you need it.

I thought it was going to be a quick video tutorial
If you're wondering why the model number ends with a "P" is because it's sprint firmware, silly. Your model number will appear as that. In the video you can see I am on T-Mobile. Yes, I do have a T-Mobile note 7. You can find some of my posts of me waiting for my note 7 in Charlie's waiting room thread.

It's literally the same thing as rooting the sprint note 7 except you need to add your APN and disable a few packages. Not that hard.

Uh, this is from freeza? It's his thread that you are following but for the sprint note 7. It turns out it flashes perfectly on the T-Mobile note 7 with no problems and you can add the T-Mobile APN to fix LTE (that's what worked for me).
He leaked the firmware, we're toying with his work (well I barely did anything as you didn't need to do much different for the T-Mobile variant). But yes, I can see why you'd wait for the official ONLY if it is based off of T-Mobile firmware.

Thank you for this info @ethanscooter, I do not care for VOLTE or WC. I just want to block ads and run youtube with the display off. Question, assuming this process will wipe all the data off my phone correct?

WFC and VoLTE might be a bit of a ***** since sprint doesnt offer it and we are using the sprint image the frameworks might just simply not be there.

It's fine, it's root. Better than nothing. You can always use a Google voice number for the meantime if you really want to. We can always make a T-Mobile flashable ROM and flash it with FlashFire.

You need to make a folder called "sun7". Then extract all the contents of the zip you download into that folder. Wherever ADB is installed that folder needs to be in the same directory. Or if ADB is not in the same location provide the path.
Example: adb.exe push C:\pathtofilehere /directory/guide/tellsyouto/pushfoldercontentsto

I wanna give this a shot but flashing Verizon FW scares me. If you don't mind me asking, did you follow the procedure in the OP to the letter or did you alter the process?
Also, are you able to surf the net (or multitask at all, i should say) while you're on a phone call? I think I remember reading about this limitation with Verizon FW a while back. Thanks in advance

If g930pvps4apk1 is the latest Sprint firmware, can I root?

Hopefully I haven't trashed my phone. I tried doing one of the root methods and now my phone is stuck. Running the factory refresh does nothing but kick me back into the boot loader. And when I try to install any firmware I get an error "Complete(Write) operation failed" in Odin (I have tried a couple different versions) and I get an error on the phone also "SW REV CHECK FAIL : [system]Fused 3> Binary 2"
I am hoping that if I install the latest firmware PK1, if it ever finishes downloading, that it will un-brick my phone.
Is there anything else I can do to prepare my phone for this. Will reinstalling the latest firmware fix those write and SW REV check errors.
I finally downloaded g930pvps4apk1 and when I try to install it I am getting the same errors, Odin = Write failed, phone = sw rev check fail : system Fused 3 > binary 1

I'll check my history when i get to a PC tomorrow. But if you Google that firmware you will find it. It is the main place where most of the firmware comes from originally. Samdriver, or something like that. It will take about 3 hours though. I finally got it to flash from a different computer with the latest ODIN.

I'm assuming you have all the other required files. Samsung USB drivers installed, ADB installed...
I'll leave that link up for a few days.
These are the latest updates for my Samsung S7 from Sprint as of 2016/12/23.
I only flashed the AP, CP and CSC file, based on the following info I found in the forums.
Why I chose the CSC file.
CSC -> there's a PIT inside and will wipe your device
HOME_CSC -> the data should stay on your device
And I didn't flash the BL file based on the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...msung-galaxy-s7-sm-g930p-root-xposed-t3503599

Well, I will just have to see if Suhide and Root Switch work. Its not like I want constant root. I just want it long enough to debloat this damn thing. I really wish Sprint hadn't forced me to buy a new phone to get their service. I should have went to T-Mo. Would have costed me the same per month anyway, and I could have kept my nexus.

oh sorry for that. I don't really use mms which is why i didnt recognize that. Though the calls and normal texts work for you right? I'm pretty positive that you just need to input correct settings for that to work somewhere in your APN settings. But I'm not 100% sure. Just play with your apn. I'm glad that they're doing a new thread about this because honestly, after that root and i guess the sim unlock too, it made my phone SUPER SLUGGISH. Let's hope for that thread to come but meanwhile im sticking to this.

Yeah it was sluggish at first until I flashed the v15 fix. Voice and MMS wouldn't work no matter what, but data stuck. I used the same apn as stock, build prop edits etc.. it was nice finally rooting my s7 considering it was on pk1 when I bought it. No worries I'll wait until nougat unless a fix comes up. This is my first non-nexus phone in 3 years so everything is still new to me.
Edit: that was without the idoneapps sim unlock. I just flashed the engineer boot and ran the root file. might be why I couldn't get voice or data lol

I couldn't find an earlier version of Package Disabler Pro. The newer version don't allow you to disable the 3 packages alright it seems I can't downgrade to PE1 , I'm going to subscribe to this thread just in case something new comes up.

How to get WiFi Calling and VoLTE with T-Mobile or MetroPCS in USA with F/FD Models

Ok so I've spent the entire time this phone has been on the market (march 2016) trying to get WiFi Calling and VoLTE working on T-Mobile or MetroPCS in the USA. With the Note 7 ports I had some luck and when Nougat finally came I needed to figure it out again. so here's what you do. First download the file Attached to this post, and you're going to need
Super stock ROM from Tkkg1994
Or
this ROM from ambasadii . Will this work with other ROMs? Well i've tried it on Superman and it didn't work but I think it might have to do with those ROMs being DeODEXed maybe not I don't know. I understand the difference but not why, so bear with me. If you get it working on other ROMs let me know.
Unzip the file attached and move it onto your phone somewhere, it doesn't matter where as long as you know where.
OK so now wipe your phone and Flash that ROM, I chose BTU CSC i don't think it matter though. NOW DON'T Reboot.
Go to the main menu in TWRP go to File Manager now you'll notice that the folders in that zip look like your /system/ right? so just cops the folders and files and then paste them in their respective folders in your /system/
I shouldn't have to say this but don't copy the priv-app folder and paste it or any others that have more files and folders that the one you're copying. but you can just copy and paste the /system/csc/ folder
when all those files are in their respective places just reboot the phone and you should be good to go.
I hope this makes sense, finally we can have WiFi Calling AND VoLTE AND be on Nougat AND live in the USA
ATTENTION: THE ZIP FILE ATTACHED IS NOT A FLASHABLE ZIP YOU NEED TO EXTRACT IT AND PLACE THE FILES YOURSELF IN TWRP'S FILE MANAGER.
I'd have made it a rar but I have a Mac and this is easier.
This works in super stock by tkkg1994 too which is deODEXed so..... https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/rom-superstoc-rom-v1-0-aroma-t3496520
Bro thank you. Worked for me.

Opened some of the CSC XMLs and there is a all kinds of references to T-Mobile. I wonder If this can be modified to apply to a G930F S7 running Nougat [ambasii ROM] on AT&T.

Does at&t have wifi calling? The volte will probably work but I think T-Mobile has a very different wifi calling than everyone else which is why is so damn hard to get it to work on these phones. But I could be wrong.
You can try the Note 7 port CSC changer by tkkg1994 might work.

Got it to work. Was having difficulty originally but I guess after install rom, you have to go and mount the system partition before you can copy the files. Thanks again!
I use the T-mobile support package from this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/sm-g935f-nougat-t-mobile-wifi-calling-t3514431
It has worked with every Nougat Rom and is TWRP flashable. I currently use it with King of Nougat v8 and have wifi, volte and video calling capabilities.

Thanks op!

The stock contacts app crashes, so I just replaced it with a custom one which still works fine. I'm still able to make and receive voLTE calls. Do you know why the stock one crashes? Can I fix that by just copying the files from here? OP could benefit from some bullet points or something, this guide is a little confusing.
Please provide a way to get Volte on galaxy s7 SM-G935T model...I haven't found any dedicates way to do it...please help

[Guide]How To Tether With No Root?

Step 0. Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro
And once installed search for "tether" and disable "tetheringprovision"
Step 1.You don't need this but it's safer to have it.
Download Foxfi http://foxfi.com and the license and once have all of that turn on hide tether usage.
(Once you get your tether going this will activate to hide your tether from the network providers)
Step 2. You don't need Internet but you need something that will showup as a wifi network such as a PS4 , Direct TV receiver, chromecast, a printer and more. Once you have these plugged in and running go to step 3.
Step 3. Go to your wifi enabler on phone and turn on the toggle for it to scan for wifi.
Step 4.Locate one wifi signal and press connect if ask for a password do a random pass and press connect
(Like on the PS4 signal it will popup saying wrong password and that's fine)
Step 5.Now that you set that random password it will try to connect as soon as you turn wifi on again so turn off wifi now and follow next step.
Step 6.Go into your mobile hotspot app and setup the name and password if so desire.
Now when ready toggle wifi direct to on and then quickly go up and toggle wifi on and keep pressing toggle hotspot on. And if done right it will come on.
Step 7.Enjoy mobile data hotspot! !
Don't turn off the wifi or wifi sharing or else it turns off the hotspot too… which im trying to find a work around for it…
Id be grateful if others could help research too.
Edit
Ive tried everything that I could think of to make a fake wifi signal but it all needs root which we don't have so.. O well then I'm still happy it works even though it is tedious.
Edit 2
A new find(I tested this and didnt work for me)
jtracker said:
Hey guys, just got an s8+ today and found out that the native hotspot will work if you pop sim tray out, it will then take you to lock screen, pull down tray and turn on hotspot. You may get an error saying no sim installed but just keep pushing hotspot button until it turns on. It is working on mine now.

Edit 3
Okay here's another way to get it to work but you need two phones and the one you use for this must have internet.
Okay so now I finally figured out how this works so here what you do:
Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kha.prog.mikrotik
1.To the phone you aren't using (turning this on the phone you're not using creates a wifi signal to the phone you want the hotspot app to work on)
2.Go on the phone now that you want to use the hotspot with and turn on wifi and search for the wifi signal that the phone used to create the signal.
3.type in a WRONG password and connect to it. (It will say wrong password which is fine now just click ok or cancel)
4.Turn off wifi and go to your hotspot app and turn on wifi sharing and quickly turn on wifi then start pressing the hotspot toggle until it connects.
5.Now you have the hotspot app on so you can turn the netshare off on the other phone and you should also be able to turn off wifi and wifi sharing and still have hotspot on!!

Another thing you can do is flash your phone with the Canadian firmware. I just did that and it removed all the att bloat and wifi tethering works with no modifications plus you have a bloat free rom. Lemme tell you, this is how the phone should have came, smooth buttery and no restrictions on basic functions.

Hello,
You have to use a modified version of Odin, it's called princecomsy version and that can be found with a quick Google search or a search on here. Download it and install it with admin rights.
You download the firmware which will be in a zip file. Creat a new folder and move zip to folder and extract the zip. Once extracted you will see 5 files. AP, BL, CP, CSC and CSC home. CSC file will wipe your phones data, if you use the HOME CSC you will retain your data but it's also considered a dirty flash, wiping everything and clean flash is always best.
Double click Odin to open it, you will see 4 slots with the same letters as the firmware you just extracted. Put each file in it's matching slot. The AP file takes a while to confirm once you put it in the slot so be patient.
Put your phone in download mode and then plug it into the computer with your USB cable. You will see device added and blue color rectangle with a port #, that means Odin is connected to your phone. Hit the start button and sit back, it takes a while to flash. Once it's done it will say pass and your phone will re boot to recovery then boot normally, first boot can take up to 5 mins (which seems like an eternity lol). Set your phone up and enjoy!

Thank you for the instruction, I will try to flash it tonight. But I have two more question:
First one is: which carrier's firmware I should use? I found the G955W firmware at https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/SM-G955W/, which one are you using?
Second question is: Is there any functional difference between this two firmware? will I able to go back to AT&T firmware if something goes wrong?
Again, thank you for your help:good::good::good:
You want the XAC firmware. You should download it from update.com as they're DL speeds are way faster than sammobile.
Yes you will be able to go back to ATT firmware. Only thing I've noticed is no video calling, volte and that's about it. You can get those things working but let's just get the firmware flashed for now :good:

Have you tried clearing the app data and reinstalling the latest version? Or you could also uninstall the app, reboot and reinstall latest version.
XAC and XAA are pretty similar if ya ask me, they both run smooth, fast and battery life is great!

Does the Canadian fw have mobile hotspot? The hotspot that lets you draw off your regular data plan instead of the Wi-Fi hotspot that requires you to have home Wi-Fi network?
This stopped working from me since the last ATT update. Can someone confirm if this is still working?

I flashed the TMO firmware on my AT&T S8+. Then I used BK Disabler Pro and disabled all bloat plus com.qualcom.qti.tetherservice and Tethering.Automation. i then downloaded Nova Launcher and made sure enhanced LTE services was enabled and HD Voice Settings were enabled. Running AT&T SIM with unlimited plan , tethering working just fine but I had to manually ADB the toggle into quick settings as well as the MobileData toggle. I can't find Wifi calling anywhere but I am sure I can use Google Dialer/Voice to place calls over data. I have DirectTV and was able to watch Live TV in full HD no issue. I am pretty sure that there is no tethering provision from AT&T so with the exception of V4A, I pretty much have everything I want without root. Battery charges to 100% and lasts way longer than it did on SAMPWND with root charging to 80%. Anyway, just my experience.
My firmware version is G955WVLU2AQK7 which I got from Sammobile.
I just turned off Mobile Data and placed a call with Google Hangouts Dialer and another with Facebook Messenger over Wifi and both worked beautifully.
