Greetings fellow denizens of the XDA Axon 7 domain. I have had my Axon 7 now for a little under a week. I have noticed if I leave it in my car in the morning; I return an hour later and the capacitive buttons either only partially work or don't work at all. In all instances the home button refused to work. One of the times the back and open apps buttons did. It is kind of cold where I live right now (around the mid 20s or 30s ferienheit) and I think the cold is probably spurring the issue? However this problem seems to correct itself upon a reboot of the phone. Has anyone else experienced this?
Yes the same happened to me too If its cold the capacitive buttons need more time to react
If it is just the cold though, seems kind of odd that a reboot fixes the problem.

I think it's because rebooting your phone is an all-hands-on-deck proposition for the phone. It runs at full speed during boot which causes the phone to warm up.
Seems like a reasonable conclusion. I guess rebooting is a convenient way to get it back to being responsive quickly.
happened to me yesterday morning. touch on screen worked fine. the 3 capacitives were dead.
reboot, then all's well again. temperature during the night was 65, and was 75ish for an hour before i woke it, so...
I concur
I can confirm here in greeley Colorado that after walking in 20 degree snowing weather, the capacitive buttons stopped working but immediately worked after a reboot. Interesting phenomenon.

The link is to an entirely unrelated issue?
My old HTC phone had 1% battery from 100% over the night when I was at a place that was -20 Celsius outside and when I restarted it plugged in since it was completely unresponsive it had 50% battery left lol
Will keeping your finger over the capacitive button help I wonder? You know, to heat it up a bit? Maybe this kind of issue is why they are not in use so much these days? 65 doesn't seem to be SO cold that it should wreak havoc, but a Colorado winter might do the trick!

According to an interesting "how do they work" article here, they say:
More temperature related errors are due to expansion and contraction of the measurement fixture than probe or electronics drift.

Since these use electrical changes along with how large an available surface area (very small in our cases) there is, temperature can really wreak havoc, especially when temp extremes are not accounted for at design. Interesting stuff.....

Hi,
I've got some weird problems with my N1. I searched around but couldn't find the solution.
I've tried CM7 stable 7.0.3 and Nighties 87 builds, and this problem happens to both.
1. When I'm running an app, such as "plants vs zombies", or typing with keyboard, when I touch a spot, it thinks I touch another spot. For example, when I touch key "D", it may give me a "space". When I try to place a plant on the left side, it puts it on the right side.
2. When I'm watching videos with MoboPlayer, the screen is locked sometimes (maybe this is a setting that I don't know, how do I turn this feature off?). When I press the "menu" button, it was supposed to unlock the screen, but it actually unlocks and locks back and forth continuely, and the phone keeps vibrating.
All the problems will be gone if I just lock the phone and unlock again. However, it will come back after a while.
Please help and thank you very much!

Yep, always been a problem with the Nexus One and often on capacitive touchscreens when plugged into a charger. You've stated the known workaround.

Really? Are you saying that these problems happen to all Nexus one and we all have to live with them?
By the way, I have these problems regardless if I'm charing or not.

I see. Thanks.
Just turn off the screen then back on, it clears this bug and only takes a second.
All nexus ones have this issue.
I traveled from Singapore to the States for about 2 weeks in May and I suddenly had this issue too. I never had it for the 16 months I owned it back here in Singapore. And when I got back after my 2 weeks trip, the problem never occurred at all again.
I'm guessing that it has to do with either the temperature or humidity levels.

I agree with you. I think it has to do with humidity specifically because it happens only when I just left from the bathroom (taking a shower) and there is a vapor, then the touch gets crazy!

Iv'e only had it a few times in about 16 months. But, it's very dry here in Vegas wih very low humidity!
I've had this issue from day one with the nexus one. For me atleast it triggers everytime I have the phone plugged in and I'm using the phone at a 90 degree angle, like sideways in bed, very strange.

But never happened in other conditions.
This happens on mine too, but if the problem is the humidity, so why lock the screen and unlock it solves?

southern china. occurs occasionally also. yet not so often these days. more often when charging. it seems that temperature matters alot, not sure about humidity.

I have similar problems as mentioned irregularly, but sometimes switching the screen off and on doesn't fix it at all. It's not very humid where I live (except when it's raining). Has anyone else considered replacing the digitizer (the touchscreen panel) of the phone, and if this would fix the problem?

I sent my N1 back to HTC for warranty repair because of this issue. They did something and sent it back saying all good now. The issue occurs less frequently now but it is there.
I suspect there is something in the trackball area that generates EMF of certain qualities (frequency?) and it interferes with the screen circuitry due to poor shielding and close proximiy.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
this is definitely a design flaw of N1, the touchscreen controller chip just SUCKS
Alright so I posted before about my screen sticking, I need to restate what problem I'm having as it has completely changed
Problem: Touchscreen will not fully register "drags" and "holds" instead, registers it as a tap and just ignores all other movement.
this causes problems scrolling in Gmail, browser, and other apps. It also makes it impossible to play angry birds or any other game because I cannot press and hold. I also have extreme difficulty using pattern unlock. It simply registers a tap.
Things I've tried:
Happens on stock 3.2 (I received XOOM with this, nothing older)
Happens with a rooted ROM (tiamat's hammerhead) and related kernel and custom recovery
I've tried removing the XOOM from my folio case, it also happened in the rubber case and when it was in my bare hands
I've already modded the touchscreen controller (Placing foam on the controller and connector so more pressure is put on it when the lid is closed).
I've rebooted the XOOM Multiple times.
When flashing ROMs, I did a full data/cache/davlik wipe. I've only done this one time.
This happens when docked and charging too.
I've throughly cleaned my hands and the touch screen with alcohol wipes, I've also tried microfiber cloth.
I'm on the verge of re-selling this item and trading it in for an iPad or ASUS Transformer (which I really don't want to do). I bought it used from another person who claims they barely used it, and I believe them. This thing still had the plastic wrap on it and is immaculate, flawless, pretty much perfect condition.
I've googled around and this is an uncomfortably common problem with nobody really giving any answers or suggestions on fixes..... Anyone know something I can't find?
Haaallpp??? IDK What else to do!
Amen to that. My one has had the same issues out of the box. I have sent this away for early life failure (Telstras DOA process) only to come back with no fault found. It takes the fun out of using the tablet to the point it becomes a chore. I work as a rep in telco and have seen many xooms with the same issue.
There is nothing anywhere that provides a solution and never gets acknowledgement. If anyone has found a solution if you can share that would be great.

Min ehas same issue, something isw rong with the tempreture xoom's screen can't handle, everytime it happens for me I press the power button 2 times, so the screen goes off & on & everything goes back to normal.
When I traveled to a colder place than where I live, it never happened to my xoom, higher than 30°C it happenes (most of time more than 33°) & less than 29°C you're good to go & it never happens.
I can't blieve such an issue in this very great tablet.
Oww & by tempreture I meant the battery tempreture which is affected by the weather, mine works awesome in 25°

If you are overclocking, which definitely can raise the temperature, you should think about setting a high temperature profile in Set CPU or CPU Master, whatever app you are using. That way, when a certain temperature is reached, the cpu goes to only a certain speed until it cools down.
I really hope temperature isn't the culprit... I live in Arizona and its over 85 most of the time...over the summer outside temp is 115+ normally, kind of ridiculous.
I'm getting very disappointed with this XOOM thanks to the faulty screen that seems common... I think I'm gonna just auction it off and be done with it :/
This poll is an attempt to quantify the precise type of known faults found on the Nexus 7
Mods have kindly agreed to make this a sticky.
The hope is that this poll will help newcomers to the forum see immediately that their fault is a known issue and that they are not alone.
If you see anyone posting in the Nexus 7 forums with a fault with their new device please point them to this poll.
Hopefully in a month or two there will be some useful data on the type and frequency of faults.
Accurate figures may help people make a decision as to whether to buy a device and may help with people's warranty claims.
I had to ask a mod to clean up this thread because of the eejit trolls.
Less than three hours later and we have another troll too thick to read the poll and vote accordingly. Or not as the case may be.
PLEASE read this post and the post below BEFORE asking can X be added or why isn't Y an option.
I am unable to add any other options to the poll and I don't want to mither a mod to do it.
The questions are there. If they do not apply to you don't vote, don't ask for the poll to be changed, move on.
If you are having issues with your Nexus7, please indicate what they are by filling out the poll - there is no need for people to comment or start complaining, that's not what this thread is for and there are plenty of other places where you can post to express your unhappiness.
If you're fortunate enough not to be having any problems with your Nexus7 then there's no need for you to get involved with this thread at all.
The poll does not now and never will have a 'None of the above' option because that is not it's intended purpose and because that is not it's purpose, there is no reason for you to post in this thread either.

Whilst not perfect, the numbers are indicative that the N7s weak spot is the screen.

the poll is missing 2 categories:
- white fog/bleeding
- screen ghosting
after 7 days of very light use (maybe total 2hr surfing) the lcd all the sudden turned white, started flickering and has massive ghosting.
it sometimes gets better a bit after 2-3min of screen-on time, but as soon as the screen is switched off/on again, the white fog reappears.

I have the same problem too. I also have some black slant lines on screen.
I think it's important to add to the OP that before one votes, they should have a couple of days of heavy usage. What I mean by heavy usage is having used it enough to the point where it literally gets hot, not just once but a good number of times. This seems to cause screen lift/looseness rather quickly. I'm on my second Nexus 7, and in 10 days, I already have screen lift and creaks.
Also, does anyone have a link to the newest revisions? Or is C9O still the latest? Maybe we should also create an accurate list.

I have a C80 and been beating mine around for a couple weeks now, including overclocking it (unnecessarily) and playing intense video games. It also has been bumping along in my bicycle pannier. I'm not even sure what you are talking about, is the glass coming out of the metal strip or is the entire metal strip lifting up. My glass is actually slightly below the level of the metal all around and no sign of any movement whatsoever.
On the other hand, my wifi is rather questionable. It has dropped off a few times even when I am close to the router. At other times it seems to be working great, but I don't think it connects to wifi as well as my cell phone.

I was having an issue with auto-brightness. Which I believe is on by default, but I turned off at some point to see how bright/dim the screen would go.
When I turned auto-brightness on again, the screen went completely black (i.e. 0 brightness) even in a fully lit room. This happened a couple of times, so it wasn't just a fluke.
Obviously I thought the screen had turned off so hit the power button to turn the screen back on, but inadvertently locking it. Touch was still fully working, and navigating to the brightness setting without a screen to reset it was _not_ fun.
I have a C70 Nexus 7, it was working greatly with no issues when i un-boxed it, and continued to do so for a month. Yesterday when i tried to play some videos through the speaker, i realized the speaker had blown out (aka. Crackling speaker). Going to try to talk to support to see what they can do, especially since i'm outside US.
Hello. C90 here and a slight but perceivable screen lift on the left. So, no improvement in the quality assurance department in the last few months.
my nexus blocked in the "oppen apps" menu i tryed to turn it off and i cant... what should i do can anyone help?
Thanks for the thread, it helped checking some things. My N7 has none of them, but often (every 20-30 minutes) freezes+restarts, I hope it's just software problem and if I get this list here right then it's most likely is(?)
Or is it a common N7 hardware fault which causes often freeze/restart (mostly with flickering white stripes all over the screen before the restart)? Googled but didn't find many threads related to that, just solutions how to restart.

I know this is yet another touch issue thread, but this does not have to do with phantom touches, and differs slightly from another the touch/responsiveness thread in that I have reproducible steps. I actually posted this in the touch/responsiveness thread but I would like to get more visibility to see if this problem is universal, and maybe determine if it is a hardware issue or hopefully just a software/firmware issue. I can reproduce this without fail, as can my friend on his n7. Please try the following things and report back your results:
If I lay the tab flat on a table, unplugged, and touch it with 1 finger, touches are only registered maybe 70% (give or take 20% every 10 samples) of the time.
If I touch it with 2 or more fingers, no issues at all.
If I'm holding the tablet in one hand and touching it with 1 finger, no issues.
If I merely touch the case (not even the screen) with one finger while the tablet is flat on a table, and touch the screen with 1 finger, no issues.
If the tablet is plugged in, no issues at all in any scenario.
This sounds like a grounding issue, which I've experienced on other devices (my HTC Incredible had this I remember). It makes it difficult to use the device when you just want to check something while its lying on a desk without actually picking it up. I don't know whether firmware actually affects something like this (for example some code that controls what sort of capacitive requirements are necessary to register a touch).
I turned on
Show touches
Pointer location
in developer options
and performed your test.
I did 1 finger 15 times, 2 finger 15 times 3 finger 15 times
I tried with it flat on table and then separately holding (so basically 90 samples)
Every touch registered based on the output from "Show touches" and "Pointer location" against the backdrop of an empty home screen
I've had phones/tablets in the past where the touchscreen became a little spasdic when plugged in a charging but not when unplugged (not saying it isn't happening for you, just my experience)
this happens on a lot of devices when flat because you just dont press the screen as hard. especially when you are trying to just barely brush the screen. solution: touch a little bit harder, works 100 percent for me
Mine works great when I try this. No issues I can find.
[Update]
Meh Kinda iffy. Mostly works. Definitely missing a few touch inputs this way. Maybe 1/10 touches, but seems only in the top part of the screen close to the border. I've actually hit it 4 times in a row and got nothing.
I'm using Yet Another Multitouch Tester and using the paint portion and just tapping on the screen.
I have 100% tap rate when I hold it with one hand and tap with another. But if I lay it down on a desk and tap the top left/right corners, I'm getting misses. The rest of the edges and screen are perfect. I'm only seeing misses at the top corners really. The drop rate isn't enough to cause an issue and there may be other factors at play. I have Sidebar and Android Notification shades and CM10.2 kangs AppBar, listening for touch inputs on the edges. Something could be off with them stealing the inputs, maybe.
Or it could simply be something screwy with the screen. But oddly it works perfect with a second finger or a hand supporting it.
I think this is pretty normal, as said earlier. Capacitive touch screens work by detecting the electricity from your body, if the "circuit" isn't "good" (laying on wood) then it will have a harder time detecting touches. For me, it is well within range of acceptable. I almost NEVER use the tablet when it is laying down anyway. I can only think of a few things that would allow me to use it while laying down, handsfree, and if it misses once or twice, big deal.
I was laying in my bed last night trying to type a comment out but noticed that it kept missing letters even if i slammed my finger against the screen lol. Definitely noticeable too; not just 1/10 times. But I did put a spigen screen protector on there and if memory serves me right I didnt have any issues when a screen protecotr wasnt on it

Laying in bed holding the tablet with 1 hand and typing with the other causes letters to be pressed that I don't physically touch. No screen protector here. I'm also having incredible difficulty in getting long presses to work properly (I would say on this tablet I trigger them every 2 out of 5 tries) which is a problem I've never had on another device.
I removed my screen protector and no more one finger on the table unresponsiveness..... Now the hunt to find a screen protector that doesn't block the grounding of my finger....

Intellishield which had never given me problems before got that brands on my s3 and had it on my hisense sero 7 tab as well.

Is that a wet or dry application?
I have the Asus official ones. I'm pretty sure all plastic ones will thwart electrical signals in some way. The only one that won't is that glass one.
Although the issue is such a rare occurrence that I can't justify spending another $20-$30 bucks to perfect. I'm pretty sure its normal.

My tab is a D60 batch or something.
I woke up one morning last week and my phone was acting like it had a mind of its own. It was activating the navigation buttons over and over again even though it was sitting on the table untouched. This made the phone pretty much useless since every time I opened an app the phone immediately closed it.
To try to fix this I completely wiped the phone and went back to stock. After that I update the touch firmware. This did nothing to fix the problem.
Fast forward about five days later. The phone stopped the behavior as quickly as it has started. Everything was fine with it for about 3 days. I could use every function just like the day I bought it.
BUT now this morning it was back to doing the same exact behavior where it acts like someone is touching the nav buttons constantly. They even light up like someone is pressing them.
Can anyone help me out with this? I am going to end up having to sell it for parts if I can't figure out what is going on.

Looks like your screen is on its way out. Replace it under warranty if u can. My first phone did that after some snow fell in the earpiece area last winter.
After that the top part of the screen was no longer responsive. Before that occured, the phone acted possessed like you're describing

Looks like your screen is on its way out. Replace it under warranty if u can. My first phone did that after some snow fell in the earpiece area last winter.

That's what I was afraid of. I am out of warranty which means I am out of luck I think. I was really hoping it was a software issue since it stopped for a few days.
What else do you expect? It called "smartphone" for a reason, right? and your phone happens to be the first one with that kind of intelligence. More like the transformer robot blending into your device heheheheh
Anyway, something wrong with your screen, loose end somewhere?

Lol, it seems like it has some kind of intelligence and it is setting it's mind on making my life difficult!
There doesn't seem like there is anything loose. It wasn't dropped and it started overnight while it was just sitting on a table.

Thats the thing. Some of these screens go bad by defect. I hear its not hard to swap in a replacement. Look into the full assembly with frame so its quicker and easier.
I may buy one as a spare and store it safe in case my screen goes bad after the warranty expires

Same is happening on my old phone, to be specific the digitizer is going out.
Would you believe I woke up this morning and it stopped again?!?! I decided I am going to just sell it for parts. I can't deal with having a phone that is unreliable. Sad day BC I really do like this phone.
