3T with Google Cardboard. - OnePlus 3T Guides, News, & Discussion

Got the phone today, and after setting everything up I did some google cardboard viewing. Not sure if it was bad settings from the QRcode of that particular cardboard, but I kept getting double vision.
After searching on google I came across a post on oneplus one forums, on the oneplus.net website, and scanning that QRcode fixed it for me.
Link is: forums.oneplus.net/threads/fix-oneplus-one-google-cardboard-no-more-double-images

Thanks for sharing. What do you mean double images?

The way google cardboard (and all other aftermarket vr headsets) works, is by splitting your screen in half and then rounding each half into circular shapes to appear like you have full view.
Unfortunately each screen is a different width. Our eyes are at different distances apart and the glass in the headsets are all at different fields of view. This means that if you have the wrong setup, then the vr apps can place the images on the phone too far apart, too close together, or at the wrong angle (circular shape) to match your eyes and headset glass. So, for example, if the two images are too far apart or close together, your eyes can't twist enough and your brain can't combine the images into one. Think of it like crossing your eyes while still seeing distant objects as one. So thus you get double vision.
The provided qr code is nice to have. But depending on your headset, may not work. The best option is to use the link to the vr setup utility and use a computer to adjust the view until you have perfect vision with no eye strain (muscle tension)

Has anyone tried disabling NFC and using a Daydream as Cardboard?

I tried with a cheap eBay vr glasses and it works just fine. No problem at all

Xoom for Home Control and Monitoring

In the event that others may find it useful or interesting, I’ve been trying to use my Xoom as sort of a “Home Control Unit”. The basic idea is that the Xoom would become a sort of home “companion” device. Whether it’s the living room, bedroom, bathroom, etc, the control of the homes main systems from a single consolidated handheld UI.
The first evolution was simply installing IP Cam on it to view the few network cameras that I have in and around the house…nothing kinky (front door, alley, general perimeter and points of entry stuff). Works like a champ. I have a couple of widgets on my main home screen that do not update very often (user defined) that offer one click access to real-time video streams from any of the cameras or combined/matrix view. Nothing ground-breaking, but fun to geek out over. Want to see who’s at the front door? Pick up the Xoom and see…etc.
The Xoom actually served VERY well as a camera placement tester. When I was positioning the actual cameras, I had the Xoom sitting next to them, showing the current video (allowing me to tweak angles, focus, etc).
The next step will be implementing one of the home control systems (probably a MiCasa device which handles X10, Zigby and ZWave protocols) that I would access from the Xoom. This would allow me to control everything from lights, thermostat, etc to temp and water alarms. Hopefully, it will happen sooner rather than later.
Anyway, it seemed like a pretty low-level of effort thing that others might get a kick out of...
I'm quite interested in this can you detail what cameras and software you use? i've been thinking about doing something like this as well

Right now, all of my cameras are TrendNets, but I made the mistake of getting cams from each of their classes (SecureView and Pro). For some damn reason, the bundled software can only manage cameras in the same family. That just makes managing things like recording and desktop views etc from a PC a pain, but no real difference on the Xoom.
Each camera (as well as those of most other IP camera brands that ive looked at) has the ability to set up motion detection and subsequent recording from their respective web interfaces, so as long as you have an app that can reach into network files shares, etc, you can even pull up historical feeds. The guy that makes the IP Cam android app updates pretty often (I'd say there's been an update every 3rd or 4th time I check for updates) and maintains a seemingly long list of suppored cameras.
If the main goal is to simply view from the xoom and basic recording onto a PC, then it doesn't really matter what brand/model of network camera you get. The only trick is to make sure you know where you want to put them before you buy them .... things like indoor/outdoor, power over ethernet and pan and tilt options are usually dictated by where you want to put them and it sucks when you realize you'd rather have bought different cams.

For the actual controlling of home systems, I've been looking at the following:
http://www.micasaverde.com/
The actual control unit is the Vera. I know that theres a Vera 2 running around somewhere, but I cant find it on their site right now.

Great find! We are building a new house and I've been searching around trying to find a solution like this.

Have you tried the IP Camera App from the market? I use it on my Galaxy S paired with a wireless FOSCAM. Works great and has a 2x2 mode as well as a 3x3 mode.
Only have my camera setup for my son's room and haven't enabled access from anything outside our wireless network, so I haven't been able to see it from work, but I think it's interesting.
I've been looking at zigbee and x10 solutions as well. Not to outfit the whole house, but some exterior lighting and stereo.
Have you all looked at HomeSeer?
That have an android app:

[Q] Stop screen from rotating

So I bought one of the cases recommended over in the accessories forum, which holds the tab propped up at an angle. It really helps with typing and all around use when you set the Tab on a desk or table. The way the case works, the camera is on the side closest to the user. Whenever I open any game (Angry Birds, Vendetta Online, etc) it flips the orientation so that the camera side is on top, instead of on the bottom. This has made it unusable! The case designer had the right idea, since putting the tab in the other way would expose the charging port (It's a folio style case). I've tried turning off the automatic screen orientation setting, but it didn't help. Any ideas?

I'm not sure I'm following your description of how the case functions. Something like this? Could you link the case model?
I've been wondering about this as well. I really don't think there's anything we can do about it..

Here is a link to the case I bought.
Pics here & here of how the case folds.
Regardless of all that, the real question is... How do I run games and such with the bottom of the screen being the camera side? I thought the whole point of doing away with all the physical buttons was so that it could be rotated any which way?!?

Well there is one thing we could do...
Spend $59.99 on the Samsung case

Total guess here, but maybe it has something to do with applications that need to track orientation (like Vendetta) and/or programming decisions by the developers (Angry Birds?).
If its a programming thing, maybe theres a way to send a bug report to the developers about the orientation issue and they could roll it into a future update.
Or ... just learn to play Vendetta with the thumb controls and Angry Birds must be a whole new experience upside down ;-)

DSLR Controller (BETA)

For all you photographers who sport Canon gear. This is a very good app that plays nice with the A500. Check out the video in the market description.
It functions well and the live view feed looks good on the iconia screen. Lets you manually micro adjust focus. Great for macro

More about it in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202082
It is a great application, allowing me to set the focus point, exposure mode/settings, and white balance and see the results on the screen before taking the shot. It would be even better if it had the option to import the resulting image, or even save a copy of the image at the resolution of the screen when you press the shutter button. (The latter would be useful to show to clients.)
I'm thinking if a guy bought an a500 windshield mount; integrated it with a Manfrotto super clamp then secured that on a tripod leg.
I do wish it displayed a preview after the shot.
Movie mode would be great also.
If the tablet wasn't in a case, probably a good suction cup mount would attach to the back. Although I'm bot sure I'd risk it. I could also probably get by with something as simple as a music stand, which is nice and cheap (maybe adding a rubber band to hold it in place?).

[Q] sensitive screen

I saw a youtube-clip where a guy demonstrated that u could use a pen (or other objects) to control the screen. Was going to try this in a meeting today, but the function seems to be deactivated. I have browsed through the settings and can't find the option to active this.
I have tried the setting enabling the use of phone with a glow, but it wont recognize any of my pens.
Anyone know?

Any chance of a link of the YouTube clip to see? I'm pretty sure those pens would've been a capacitive type for it to work on the screen. There are even some that look like a ball point pen, but is actually capacitive.

This is one of them:

Under display settings all the way dow youll see a box for high touch sensitivity. Maybe that one will make it work
I have tested some more now and it seems to be able to recognize objects of metal. Dont understand how the guy could control it with a bottle then

Wow! I stand corrected and humbled! He definitely mentioned "conductive", but all the objects he used were everyday objects! I even tried with a pen and it worked! Didn't even have to enable the extra sensitive function. Gonna get a milk bottle next to try, haha!
Are you using any screen protectors (film or glass)?
I know on mine, it's a matte finish, but they say that gloves and capacitive pens would still work.

S8 Gallery app - Story Mode

So, I have just upgraded myself from G3 to this Beast phone (love it)
Native Galaxy Gallery App there is a Story Mode/ selection that puts together all the pictures you have then in a given day or location and adds background music & some effects but, in doing so it cuts the pictures so you end up with half the face or picture to see.
Are there any settings the I need to change to make the pictures show in full or is there any fix for this.
I tried searching the forums but found nothing. In case I was wrong please direct me to the correct post
I'm finding that I have the same results and can't find any settings to change the way it seems to zoom in on each photo. Really nice idea but poor execution...

No one else seems to have this issue or care for this feature
or they are too busy rooting/ unlocking the SD version of the phone
Can't say about others, but in my case: 1. easy enough to do it manually just the way I want it 2. it almost never works properly, besides cutting off the frame. Case in point, my phone created album called "at the beach", after we went to the beach. Well, most of the pictures in this album are not from anywhere near the beach and since I have location embedded in every picture and phone already correctly identified I was at the beach including particular field, not sure why it added pictures taken at home and many other locations. Bottom line: useless function personally I don't care about.
