Hi everyone,
I have got my Oneplus Two ever since last September. It is a great phone overall. However, one thing that's bugging me is the battery life. I admit I am a relatively heavy user, but I can only squeeze out about 3 hours of screen on time out of it.
I thought earlier, maybe it is the problem of Oxygen OS (it overheats like hell as well). Then I switched to CM13 roms. CM13 does not overheat at all and is smooth all the time. But the battery performance is still not ideal. I would say it's probably just 10% better than OOS..
Any ideas on this? I don't care about warranty and I am an engineer .. should I maybe try to replace the battery? I suspect the battery is dodgy after lots of overheating in the OOS..
Thanks for advice!! Cheers.
3 hours heavy use is pretty standard for the phone. The phone doesn't let the battery get to dangerous temps so I don't think that's the thing. Android has always had kinda poor battery life at least when it comes to standby times. I'm on Seraphs CM13 and it seems to have a decent power consumption, maybe give it a try?

Thanks! I will try it out!
As Kirahvi said 3hrs are, more or less, normal for OOS 2.2.1 stock.. Now I'm using stock rom with boeffla (which allow underclock), Amplify and greenify.. and my SoT is about 5.30hrs!
3 hours is also the max I've ever gotten, though its usually a little less than that for me. I am a heavy user of my smartphones while I'm commuting on the train, because I have music on + constant screen on while surfing the web/facebook/twitter. And while I'm at work I have bluetooth connection to my Huawei watch to receive notifications throughout the day. Nowhere near the folks who managed to squeeze 4hrs - 6hrs SOT daily but overall still reasonable.
Battery life for me is the same on OOS and CM13. Standby time on marshmallow is a little better with the introduction of Doze, though it only works if your device is left stationary for a period of time.
I'd also like to point out that battery life is the same for me with or without the Facebook/FB Messenger app. Thats why I left them installed.
I got 4 hours if I tweaked the heck out of thing, reduced brightness and just managed power ad much as possible, but more often then not I was at 3.5 or less. I am using the Hydrogen beta and I get 4.5 without any effort and have even hit 5. You might try that too, I have tried ALL the CM13 ROMs it feels like, in fact I keep a backup of Seraphs nightlys as I like it so much better than hydrogen, but by far hydrogen gets the best battery life...and its not close.

More than 4 hours is just because people read a lot on their phone, 6+ hours I think you can easily reach that lowering the brightness, under clocking, never turn off screen and just let phone idle don't even touch screen never

Guys, what lot of people not really undarstanding,SOT its not really show you how is the battery, lot of else is playing in the background which is affecting your battery.
for example:
-celluar coverage(if you got less the perfect conennection its gonna drain your bettery, and no its doesnt matter how big city you living, more people, more house ,less coverage
-wifi (same as above, how good and stable your connection,as less the drain)
-kind of apps(which is more frequently sync, and connecting with gps ,those use more battery)
-How long is the phone without the charger(yes if you pull off the charger and living on the table always screen on ,using a bit and after 4h you uploding the stat,is it the same?? NO!)
Im living in central London with bad coverage, bad wifi connection all around, and from 9am till 1am I got around 3h SOT,which I think not bad with these condition.
So guys dont compare each other SOT ,couse every connections and condition is different.
So I have updated to MM 6.0.1 and experience bad battery life. I have done a factory reset 2 times and still losing approx 1.5% of battery per hour and only seeing the phone go into deep sleep approx 50% of the time according to better battery stats. Before the MM update when I was on lollipop I was seeing a battery loss of about .7% / hr and 90+% deep sleep time for similar usage.
I have disabled all of the bloatware I can (including facebook and flipboard) but still no luck. I am going to go back to 5.1.1 unless someone has any other ideas on what is eating through the battery life with MM.
My battery life has been awful also after the MM update. In fact, it has been terrible ever since Kitkat. I have tried different batteries and hard resets, nothing helps. I am going to try another hard reset because Bluetooth is draining my battery like crazy even though I am not even using it (#1 drain right now). The software for the note 4 has been such a huge disappointment!
great b life, i dont use bluetooth...i really like this update
do you use Package disabler ? i have probably 12 apps disabled..helps a great deal
I do use package disabler and had many more that 12 packages disabled but even with BT off I was seeing a 1.5+% drop/hr. I have now gone back to 5.1.1 to test it out for a few days and verify that battery life is back to normal on it.

can anyone tell me if the marshmallow update gives us android users? i know users are not available in 5.1.1 but was hoping it would be in marshmallow.
I've been getting great battery life on MM but I'm running an S7 port on my Note 4. I'm currently at 1d20h with 6% battery left.
Battery life is usually not too good after a factory reset. Give it a couple two or three days and then re-evaluate.
I've been on the Jasmine ROM for about a day and for me, battery life isn't that much worse than it was when I was on 5.1.1.
Also keep in mind the age of a given battery. Like a new car, as soon as you roll it off the showroom floor it begins losing value.... LiOn batteries have a limited number of charge cycles, and after the first handful, you can pretty quickly see faster discharge times. This is accelerated with heat, which tends to happen when you install a new ROM, because you're hitting the screen and processor pretty hard for long periods of time. Also, avoid charging the battery while the phone is hot, that will also accelerate the wear on the battery.
This is one of the reasons the Note 4 is still a great phone today: removable battery! Get yourself a replacement or two, they're cheap and it's always good to have a spare on hand.

I did give MM several days to settle in after a factory reset but still no better battery life. I do not that if you are on JasmineRom that you must have rooted the MM version to install it. I am considering doing the same but was concerned that I would not see any better battery life with it either.
So I had Nougat ever since it came out and used it a lot, but went back to Marshmallow a couple of days ago because of:
...Battery life. No matter what apps, settings, versions (B360, B380, B381), recommendations etc. - Battery life is simply better and more reliable on Marshmallow. Yes, I know, I did factory resets, downgrade, upgrade via OTA, deactivated this and that, pretty much everything you read on the threads here and elsewhere, it still couldn't catch up to Marshmallow. Don't get me wrong, battery life on Nougat is not terrible - I even convinced myself over the months that it is pretty much the same or even better, but that's simply just wishful thinking. As soon as I downgraded I could notice a significant improvement.
What do I mean by improvement? For once it is more reliable meaning I know what I get. On Nougat I had days where I got 3 hours SOT, then 4 or 5 on others. I had 2 percent stanby drain per hour, then 5, then 1 - it was just more random. On Marshmallow I always get pretty much the same. Stanby drain of 1 percent or less per hour and SOT of 6 or more hours (I'm at 3:40 SOT at the moment with 18 hours and 45 minutes since the last charge and exactly 50 percent battery left). So not only is it more reliable, it also gives me more SOT and lower standby drain.
Regarding the standby drain: When installing apps like ForceDoze on Marshmallow, it lets the device enter Deep Doze the minute I turn off the phone (meaning I often have deep doze rates of above 98%) which leads to little to almost no standby drain without losing any benefits (notifications still come through when added to the whitelist). Deep sleeps rates are also above 90 percent. With Nougat deeps sleep rates are only around 80 percent (given the same apps, settings etc.) and doze rates are much worse. Yes, I know all about light and deep doze, but light doze doesn't start until 5 minutes after the device is turned off (even with apps like ForceDoze) and those 5 minutes add up, especially if you are checking your device often. Also, it doesn't enter deep doze which arguably consumes less power until much later (often hours) and there is also no way I could change that with ForceDoze or Greenify. What's more, the ForceDoze setting of "ignore device movement" actually works on Marshmallow but didn't reliably work on Nougat meaning the deivce enters and stays in deep doze the minute you turn off your phone even if you are moving or driving etc. This made the difference between Marshmallow and Nougat even greater for me when driving or walking around town.
One additional thing I noticed. is that Android System and Kernel (Android OS) usage was higher on Nougat than on Marshmallow, which also worsened battery life on Nougat for me. Again, this could be reliably replicated with the same apps, settings etc.
Granted, everything else is pretty much better on Nougat (speed, UI, notification bar, lock-screen, security updates, additional features etc.), but if you value battery life above everyhing else (which I do), I still think Marshmallow is the best on the Honor 8 and, frankly, I don't see the point of updating to a newer version of Android if it doesn't come with at least the same battery life, as it is one of the most central features of a phone. I don't know and don't really care whether it's Nougat itself or Honor, I just hope that eventually (maybe with B38X or B39X), battery life will fully match that of Marshmallow. What do you guys think? What's your experience?
I never used MM longer than a day or two before upgrading to N, so I can't comment on which is better, but I can confirm that (with N) I've seen random days where the battery drain is unreal during standby, and other days when it hardly drains at all during standby. But ever since I performed a factory reset after upgrading to N, the drain has been very predictable. Standby drain is minimal and SOT is 6+ hrs. Hard for me to complain when I couldn't get that much SOT from the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact on KK, and that was a battery champ! I finally feel like I'm getting the newest features and great battery life at the same time.
You need a choice for people who never used MM in your pole to make it more accurate.
My wife just got her Honor 8 today. It's on Marshmallow. Mine is on the latest Nogat. Each update killed my battery life not significantly but noticably. I can relate to you wanting to downgrade.
While I never had an Honor 8 with Marshmallow, I was about to update her phone to the latest until I saw this thread and am glad I didn't. If Oreo fixes battery life issues, I'll happily update both our phones to it.
For her, this is her first Android and is coming from Apple. Last thing I wanna do is give her an excuse (battery life is a great one) to go back to Apple.
And the funny thing is....she doesn't care about the app tray like most of us Android users lol
Let's see how this pans out!

An older battery compared to a new one. One lasts longer, that's so crazy to think batteries might depreciate over time. ?
I bet you think you can kill your battery by leaving it plugged in too.

I flashed the leaked Android Oreo OTA to my Verizon Galaxy S8 and am experiencing pretty terrible battery life. I'm getting about 2 1/2 hours of SoT which I find bad for 2018. Meanwhile, my Verizon LG V30 with Nougat is getting 5+ hours of SoT which drives me crazy. Any tips to improve? Also, how's your battery life with Oreo on your S8?
I haven't taken the dive for the Oreo beta based ROMs but have been following the threads and the consensus is that at present Oreo is no better than N, it actually seems to be a little worse for most, hence I'll wait for a while still before jumping to O, give it more time for fine tuning on the S8 by developers etc. just my opinion, plus I get 6 odd hours of SoT on my N custom ROM so I have no urgency to go to O until its more polished.
Terrible, i updated mine couple of weeks ago and noticed about this battery issue, it drains fast despite of disabling the likes of location, reducing the brightness, bluetooth. i informed samsung about it. Before i used it outside with a (-3 temperature since i live in Finland), it was fully charged 100%. I only used it NOT more than 5 minutes for videoing and taking pictures and that's it, i stayed outside for more than an hour. When i checked my battery it was 56% ! I know that cold temperature diminishes the battery performance but not to extent of that emptying the battery in half:

After I updated to Oreo I had horrible battery life as well... It one time dropped about 20% when the phone was resting with the screen off in the couch.
I disabled everything bixby related. Force closed, uninstalled updates, and disabled in every way possible.
Now I get decent battery life. I live in Sweden, we have -4°c today, and the phone worked just fine even outside. No significant battery drop.

you can try flash a custom kernel , are you using stock or custom rom ? which firmware?
I'm using the stock version. I'm not that tech expert to modify it although my phone is at developer version. Anything I can do more?

Hello,
I am an LG fan (mainly due to the always-on display and the reliable tap to wake/sleep functions which I find tremendously useful) and since the G7 was launched (too big of a phone and too small battery for my needs) I decided that the G6 may actually fit my needs better due to being smaller and having a bigger battery (and the perfectly flat screen of the G6 which allows me to use an invisible tempered glass protector).
But I'm worried about battery life, especially stand-by. I need a phone that lasts 2 days with like 2-3h of SOT (I don't use the phone much but I really need it to have low standby drain). From what I read until now, the standby drain is a bit of a hit and miss with the G6...
I was wondering if the new Oreo release brings any improvements in standby drain ? Does anyone have experience with it ?
Thanks !
Idle battery drain mainly depends on the apps you use and whether they sleep ok or misbehave. I can use my G6 for 2 days...
call me pessimistic, but i never had better battery life after my phone was updated to the next release of software. It could be partially because battery life was depleted after long period of waiting for updates. I can say that with Samsung S8 and Sony and HTC10, it was definitely a case. I do not expect miracle with G6 either.
will be happy if someone can show me otherwise
Has anyone with a Korean G6 that has actually been updated to Oreo noticed any changes in either battery life or standby battery drain. Quite a few people are hoping for improvements in standby battery drain as this was a known problem with Nougat 7.0. If you could also state how old your G6 is, as some peoples phones may be over a year old and be suffering from battery degradation. My 9 month old H870DS, set up how i want it, loses 20-25 percent of battery in 8 hours overnight. This phone must be charged daily overnight or topped up regularly.

You may have some bad apps. I never loose more than 3-5% over night with wifi on.
i have G600L from Korea, and i can assure that Oreo has not had any improvements on standby drain. Well the good thing is that it doesn't get any worse.
That has been my experience with other phones as well. Even if some new battery saving technique is built into the new OS, it is more than compensated for by the bloat of the new OS and updated apps, which have more services running in the background.

On average, people in this forum have been reporting idle battery drain of 2-3% per hour. However there is quite a bit of variation both day to day in the same device and between devices. You have been one of the lucky ones, most likely having nothing to do with what apps or settings you do or don't use. 2 seperate threads have been devoted to dealing with the problem, but nothing consistently helps. Most likely either a hardware issue, like the radio cycling hi or low power, or something in Nougat that LG might or might not fix (according to the post above they did not...)
Regarding "misbehaving" apps-- basically almost every useful app has that potential, since so much functionality of the smartphone revolves around the ability to multitask or run in the background. So if you want to leave the phone with only stock apps, install nothing, and block all syncing, reminders or notifications, I'm sure you can modestly reduce the idle drain, but so what? It negates the whole point of the smartphone... I remember I could get a whole week out of my Nokia 3150 candybar phone
I'd be interested to learn which apps you have and what settings you changed.
I loose about 3% over night with WiFi, BT and location = high precision. I have and use many apps (>120) but most of them are productivity tools, VPN, etc. I use only ad free and many paid apps e.g. Maildroid pro for email. Maybe ad free is one of the reasons as I'll have less background activity. On the other hand my Voip client (Grandstream Wave) is always on and I still have no idle issue...

I debloated pretty much every uneccessary app (i'd say 60-70 apps) when i was in nougat and so as in oreo. I've never experienced drastic battery drain on either version. I never leave wifi on when i go to bed, so I'd say I loose around 1% overnight (in nougat as well as oreo). So there u have it, don't expect to much from Oreo, you're not going to have an immense boost in terms of battery, nor in the overall perfomance of the phone. Still, I'm very with this phone

setting-->display-->screen saver. Turn that off if you are still in andriod 7.0.

When I leave mine at 100% charge before going to bed at night, it's still at 100% the morning after. So, a 1% change the whole night is not bad (nor extra-ordinary).
I have my wifi and bluetooth always on. But I don't have the screen at "always on" setting. My email sync settings are on "smart" mode. Other installed apps which may run in the background are News app, GroupMe, My Data Manager, and NetGuard.

10 months old H870DS, HKG firmware, no battery degradation because with nougat I charged it at 1.5 to 2 days. 2 SIM cards standby, 4G networks, active use of the phone and I was getting around 3h SOT with a 20-24h standby. Now after Oreo I'm getting max 2.5, under 3h SOT with the same 24h standby. I did a factory reset after upgrading via LG Bridge, and did a upgrade with LG UP and kdz V20a - no change at all. I suppose that the system is draining more battery than it should under use.View attachment 4526726
