Here's a small New Year present to all audio lovers!
This patcher was originally developed by JackNorris and was later modified by _crue_ - many thanks!
However, 4.4.zip patch disabled headphone functionality. So I ripped contents of WiredAccessoryManager from Timur's USB-ROM and updated 4.2 and 4.4 zips with them.
Results:
1. USB DAC hotplug works!
2. Switching between internal speakers and DAC - works!
3. Once headphones are plugged in, sound switches from speakers or DAC to them - works!
4. No volume control for USB DAC - this requires another patch for AudioPolicyManagerBase.cpp before ROM compilation (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2222374&page=93 post #928 - again, all credits to JackNorris). I do not have the environment to build my own ROM...
It's strange that FineVolumeControl app is able to control DAC volume.
As of now, it's a partial success, but hope is not lost! Please look for 1st post in this thread for instructions.
Tested with Oxydo v15 version 1 (BTW, v1 boot failure can be caused by different SEPOLICY binary in CM11 and AOSP ROMs, binary from latest CM11 kernel works even if installed in AOSP kernel ramdisk) and CM11 nightly from 12/25.
Credits:
To JackNorris and _crue_ for the patcher
To Timur Mehrvarz for his tremendous development work on USB ROM.
Happy New Year!
P.S. Additional info (as per recommendation from redeyedjedi)
Java JRE 1.6 (16u45 recommended) must be installed (included SMALI binaries might not work with Java 1.7), as well as .NET v4 or v4.5
Hotplug on boot does not work (not an issue for me) no matter which options I adjust under /sys/kernel/usbhost - I must unplug OTG cable from Nexus first.
However, if I boot without OTG cable, then connect it without DAC and only later connect the DAC, it is detected properly.
If I boot with OTG Y-cable (with power connected to it) and plug the DAC after boot completion it is detected properly.
It seems that initial DAC detection routine in the kernel is affected by OTG charging patch (as Timur stated a while ago). There might be something else in his ROM to force initial DAC detection. I played with Timur's kernel during my 4.2.2 days and it did not detect DAC on boot as well when using stock ROM.
If I boot with stock CM11 kernel, DAC is detected on boot, hotplug works, but no OTG charging (and I need it for USB peripherals)
And there's still a volume control issue...
WARNING: It seems that this patch will only work on CM11-based ROMs! It can render AOSP ROMs (such as Purity) unbootable! Please use with caution!

@NetFluke were you ever able to get the volume control for the USB DAC to work? I have a Nexus 7 2012 grouper with kangaroo kernel 3.1.10 and stock AOSP 4.4.4 with xposed framework and the USBAudioAccessory module witch works great as far hot pluggable USB and charging in Host mode. I have two DAC's, one is a Pluggable brand with no controls and the volume is either 0 or max and I have another generic one with hard volume buttons. When I press the hard buttons the volume slider appears and goes from 0 to max. However when I have FineVolumeControl in the foreground i can control the volume granularly both with the hard buttons on the DAC and Nexus and also the soft controls. I found out the hard way that @jacknorris's volume control only works on 4.2.x and earlier. This is all for a car install in my Honda Fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@yukster Which faux kernel are you using? I am running AOSP 4.4.4 with faux123 3.1.10 on my Nexus 7 2012 grouper. Did you have to do anything else else to get it to recognize the DAC?
Thanks,
Peter
Hi, I was searching the net and did not find anything, so maybe android gurus here can help.
I have Tesla style head unit based on autochips AC8227 processor cortex a53 quad core processor. I have android 4.4.4 installed on head unit, despite the fact it says it's android 6.0. I've rooted it or it was rooted initially, do not know, however I have access to the system files.
So what I need^
1) I need the best way to make backup of the firmware in case I brick something manipulating with system files.
2) I need to be able to redirect whole sounds to external USB sound card in particular to USB DAC based on PCM2704 with SPDIF output.
from searching the net I found that if I enter commands in terminal emulator:
su
ls /dev/snd
I'll get all sound devices recognized and used by android system and there should be USB sound system listed as well (if it's recognized of cause) However external sound card is not there. So I need to add modules (drivers) for it into the system.
Where to get them and how to prepare to be usable with AC8227 processor I have no clue.
Please help me to find solution to my challenging questions.
thanks
SM-T560NU Audio no longer working, no soundcard found in proc. Firmware reflash unsuccessful, all versions. Any help is appreciated. Also there is a /d directory in my root on every device I have. Any idea what that is...
Applicable to: Windows Phone 8.1/10
Hello everybody! New tutorial here!
I am gonna explain you, how to change your:
Battery Low sound
Charging sound
Lock sound
Unlock sound
USB OTG Connection sound
USB OTG Disconnection sound
and much more...
First things you need to do.
Unlock bootloader using WPInternals
Enable Root using WPInternals
For more info search in xda "Unlock bootloader and Enable Root access in WPInternals"
After doing that, boot to Mass Storage Mode by shutting down your phone, hold camera and power buttons until NOKIA logo disappears.
Connect the phone to PC
Goto MAINOS partition
Goto the directory PROGRAMS\Common Files\Sounds
Now you can change everything. More info later.
Hi to all
I have a fire stick tv lite ( sheldon) but it doesn t convert audio stream to dolby digital, i cant play audio with my amp dolby digital ( no trouble with tank version).
My firmware is 7.6 1.4 (3227)? Any chance ti convert it?
I have read lot of posts, but i dont understand much, need to root to execute adb command?
Thanks
Check out this post:
[UNLOCK][ROOT][TWRP][UNBRICK] Fire TV Stick 3 and Fire TV Stick Lite (sheldon/p)
Read this whole guide before starting. This is for the 3rd gen Fire TV Stick (sheldonp) and Fire TV Stick Lite (sheldon). NOTE: FireOS < 7.2.7.3 required NOTE: This process does not require you to open your device. What you need: A Linux...
forum.xda-developers.com
But this guide only works if the device is on a firmware older than 7.2.7.3.
I have read it, but I dont understand if is possibile to do something to only convert sheldon to sheldonp ( to solve dolby digital trouble), no need to keep root or also, as i will run original firmware
If your only problem is Dolby Digital / Plus passthrough, that should work with the FireTV Lite
Device Specifications: Fire TV Streaming Media Player | Amazon Fire TV
Fire TV Streaming Media Player specifications are provided here.
developer.amazon.com
When you run the FireTV audio and video diagnostics does it report Dolby Digital support?
What's your setup confirmation? Lite -> TV -> to AVR via HDMI or optical?
I think tank version converts ddplus or atmos to dd, while sheldon only do passthrough, my amp is only dd capable so i get only stereo pcm audio ( no dd option in audio whlie watching).
In diagnostic i get dd passthrough capable.
My setup: firetv -> tv by hdmi -> amp by coax cable
Thanks
Ah ok, so you need any DD+/Atmos audio to be transcoded to DD and passed to the TV. I don't know if the Lite and or regular 3rd gen Stick can do that? Maybe someone else can confirm that?
Have you tried FireOS settings / display & audio / audio / surround sound / Dolby digital?
This will limit audio to DD, but I'm not sure if it will transcode DD+ to DD automatically.
The Lite and the 3rd gen Stick are the same hardware, but the Lite comes with a remote with no volume buttons. The Lite can be converted to the 3rd gen with a firmware flash and minor changes, but flashing firmware requires unlocking / TWRP, and Amazon patched the last method in March. There hasn't been a new method discovered since then.
