I have just purchased a second hand Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge which is locked to O2. My daughter is an O2 pay monthly customer so I used her simcard to link the handset to her account in Myo2. Then I utilised the unlock device button on the web page. 48 hours later I had a Network unlock code for my device. Upon putting in a non O2 simcard I got the Unlock Pin entry screen, entered the unlock code, only to be told "Network Unlock Unsuccessful" tried again with the same result. Decided not to try again as had been warned that 3 times unsuccessful would freeze phone unlock process. Contacted an O2 guru via web chat to be informed that I should reorder the code, as it would be a different code and would 'probably' work. At the time I also got the mck 'unfreeze' code from the guru in case of any future freeze problems. I tried entering the unfreeze code then pressing Network Unlock button prior to entering the original supplied network unlock code but got the same Network Unlock unsuccessful result. After a few days the second O2 code came through but it was just the same manufacturers code as the first one that I already have as I don't think that each IMEI has multitudes of different ones. I have since been back on to O2 gurus on network chat and after being passed backwards and forwards between the Monthly Contract Team and the PAYG team - it ended up with them basically saying that they couldn't help me as the only option I have have is to go back to the original purchaser of the phone on PAYG.This is not an option. I bought the phone from a Facebook listing and he had been using it on Giff Gaff since January 2016 when he bought it from a Gumtree purchase. I then contacted a web based mobile unlocker and they checked for me but said that there was nothing that they could do as I already had the correct Samsung manufacturers Network unlock and unfreeze codes. The phone is not blacklisted or anything and has a clear Checkmend report.
1) The IMEI supplied to O2 was the correct IMEI - the Myo2 website dragged the IMEI from the phone OTA when it was registered on My O2 . This IMEI tallies with the IMEI shown on the phone box, the IMEI shown in settings/about phone, and the IMEI shown when you carry out the 06 shortcut on dialpad.
2) The phone has not been rooted and is running O 2 branded stock firmware G935FXXU1BPHJ.
3) In between inputting the rejected Network unlock code I turned the phone off and back on again before trying the unfreeze code followed again byt the Network unlock code - in all cases the response was "Network Unlock Request Unsuccessful"
4) I have reset the phone to factory settings but have exactly the same result.
5) The phone will run and make calls fine on any o2 sim or derivatives such as tesco or giffgaff.
Can you wizards there suggest anything?? My natural stubborness is to find the way to unlock it but I fear I will end up reselling it as locked to o2.
Thanks in advance

So I bought my HD2 2 weeks after they came out. Shortly after I tried buying an unlock code for my phone because t-mobiles service in my area is kind of come and go. Unfortunatly I have one of the 35777 Phones so after 4 attempts with 4 different sites failing at getting a code, I tried emailing tmobile to see if they would give me a code as they already told me they dont have service in my area. They told me to fax them a copy of my invoice proving I paid full price for the thing, so I did. About a week later they got back to me and said that due to the fact that I bought it from a site that was not one of their approved retailers I couldnt get an unlock code. So about a week and a half ago I went to a tmobile store and got the darn thing setup anyways. I get some service in this area, just not much. Now about 3 days ago, I get an email from t-mobile that looks like this:
T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: *******
IMEI: 35777*********
Unlock Code: ********
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your HTC device.
1. Insert the foreign SIM card
2. Power on the device and the display should read "Please input unlock code"
3. Enter the unlock code and the device should display "Phone is unlocked."
4. Allow the phone to scan the network (or manually click on the antenna icon to do this)
It is very important that the instructions and SIM unlock code are entered correctly as listed. If you receive an error message while performing the instructions do not make any further attempts to unlock the handset. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked. You will need to verify the IMEI by pressing *#06# and contact Customer Care for support.
Thank You,
Sim Unlock Department
T-Mobile USA, Inc.
I kind of find this a bit odd. They tell me I cant get the number, then about a month later they randomly mail it to me anyway.
sounds kind of odd... have you always had tmobile or did you just sign up to purchase the hd2?
Neither, I had at&t before, Wanted to buy it and unlock it to use with at&t but in the process realized at&t's service is a bit of a ripoff. Atleast it is with standard plans. Wanted to try and use my hd2 with a gophone card but it doesnt seem to want to work.

where did you get your unlock code from? i hear good things about http://cellunlock.net
You realize that AT&T gives you 5 free unlock codes a year....do you have AT&T or know someone who does?
just call at&t and ask for it, you'll give em your imei and they give you code and poof!
theres a blackout period of 6months after launch for at&t to NOT give the codes out past that its whoever asks.
atrix came up to anyone that asks mode in august i believe.(had mine unlocked for my euro trip
But there is a problem - I live in Ukraine dood And i can not call to ATsT
your only option would be to purchase an unlock code online for like $15.
Just call AT&T - they should give you the code
I suspect that the seller blocked phone. Found in that kind of thing A Hard Lock is a permanent carrier lock.Your phone will become hard locked by attempting to enter an incorrect unlock code more times than your phone allows, permanently locking the phone to the current carrier. Each phone manufacture has a different limit for the amount of unsuccessful attempts before the device becomes hard locked. The standard amount for Nokia, Samsung and Motorola is 5 attempts. The standard amount for LG and Blackberry is 10 attempts. The messages below are examples of what a Hard Locked phone will display. To test this needed to be done: Power on the phone with a Not Accepted Sim card. The phone will display "Sim Network Unlock Pin". In order to find how many attempts you have remaining you must enter a invalid code. You can do this by entering all zeros "0" as the unlock code which will be either, 8 or 16 digits depending on model. This will give you a Network Unlock Request Failure and a message "Number of Attempts Remaining: #" will display on the screen. If your phone is Hard Locked it will display "Number of Attempts Remaining: 0" andyou should not proceed with purchasing an Unlock code as your phone is permanently locked. Motorola phones come from the factory with five attempts. This is how it turned out. Tell me please what to do in such cases.
I am looking at purchasing a HTC HD2 from ebay. Unfortunately, it was from a "batch of phones that had left the suppliers locked" The supplier eventually offered a refund and he also, maybe inadvertently kept the phone as well. When he now puts in the SIM card the message reads --"Service provider is locked. Please input unlock code." Apparently you can have these unlocked, but one site states that "This service will NOT remove your phone’s security lock" Can somebody please explain to me what this means? Is it correct that you can only enter the unlock code 5 times and then it is permanently locked? Is there any way round this? It seems a little strange that the phone provider supplied a locked phone, then provided the unlock code, which for some reason didn't work? I would appreciate any advice. The emei number appears to check out as far as it is not blocked. I will pay for an "official" check, if it appears that I can get round the unlock problem. I could always approach the original supplier and request an unlock code, and hope that their unlock procedure works the second time round?
Thanks
Which carrier is this from?
Usually when you enter it wrong x number of times you now have to enter the "unfreeze" code, which you should be able to get from the phone provider. Most online unlocks also have the unfreeze code.
What country & network was it locked to ?
Most can be easily unlocked via codes matched to the IMEI
*Do make sure IMEI on sticker in battery area matches that of actual mainboard IMEI when you dial *#06# to view IMEI on screen
Have entered more than 5 myself & been on a time out wait for quite some time ...
Security lock is to do with firmware certificate checking & nothing to do with SIM lock ...
I get all my codes from http://www.pdamagician.com/unlocking.html but if you tried some code already without success I would ask them if they have another code not matching what already been tried.
Other option is getting it unlocked via cable & software & this method can unlock SIM, CID & Security as required but you need to find a local shop that supports it ...
Also worth noting you need to be on Windows Mobile ROM to fully support the code unlocking.
Thanks for the replies
Supplier was Virgin UK
Just to clarify:
"Service provider is locked. Please input unlock code."
• This is security lock and can be unlocked by using:
o code from original phone supplier (Different one in this case).
o code from 3rd party online supplier such as pdamagician.
o cable connection using specialist software at local shop.
IMEI sticker number matches mainboard
• This can only be checked after unlocking security on phone as above?
I presume by windows mobile rom, you mean not running on other operating system such as android? The phone has never been used, so it will be on windows and therefore not be a problem?
Are these phones still available new anywhere?
I can still buy them new here in Bangkok but getting harder to find.
Vodafone UK should be easily SIM unlocked by genuine HTC code & if for some odd reason not software & cable will for sure.
I would get likes of pdamagician to verify the code you have already tried as suspect a genuine HTC IMEI database code will be different .

Hi,
I just purchased an as new unlocked note 4 from someone on gumtree, they have been posting for years so don't think i have a dodgy phone, i sent my brother to pick the phone up from their home while i was working and he said they unlocked the password while he was there.
But i have just tried a couple of sims and i get the message " sim network unlock pin"
I have tried to contact the person but he works away off shore and don't know when he will get back or reply.
Is there a way to get by this and get my sim working?.......i was planning on rooting the phone anyway.
Thanks for any replies!
You will need to get the unlock code because it's locked to a particular network.
You can usually tell which network it's locked to because it has bloatware from that network installed.
Also in the settings on "about phone" tab it should give you some letters at the end of the firmware version which will tell you what network.
Mine was locked to O2 and I used this guy.
Gave me code in a few hours.

Hi, There does not seem to be any bloatware installed from any network....the phone does look like a bought unlocked phone. Maybe the owner has put a sim lock on the phone himself?
download the Samsung Info app from Play Store, it should tell you eveything you need to know(root wont unlock network)and no way the seller put a network lock, in terms of unlocking you'll need the code. Some service providers supply them at no fee and some at a fee, alternatively you have a plethora of online options usually at a small cost to provide code, gl.
I purchased an Essential phone on eBay.
Excited to use my new phone;
I tried to insert my sim card
(I use Walmart Family Mobile which is under T-MOBILE)
and I get a screen saying
"SIM NETWORK UNLOCK PIN"
So confused I look up the IMEI to see if it is unlocked or not
It says CLEAN
other things it said:
"Error message: device is available"
"Device FED description: FED is in the past. Financial eligibility on the device has been met"
"Blacklist status: CLEAN(failed deactivation)"
"Activation status: device is inactive"
"Currently active: no"
Device FED met: YES
SPCS: YES
I tried rebooting the phone a few times. I tried going through settings but when I tried to select "automatically detect network" and turn it off, it goes to a black screen and the settings app crashes.
So I went into the recovery mode just to see and it says
PRODUCT NAME - MATA
VARIANT - SPRINT
BOOTLOADER VERSION - MATA-34cc3f5
BASEBAND VERSION - 2.0.c.4-M2.0.10
SERIAL NUMBER: *BUNCH OF THINGS*
SECURE BOOT - yes
DEVICE STATE: LOCKED
I have tried contacting Sprint they said they can't unlock with the account. The eBay seller has yet to get back to me and I'm frustrated. I tried contacting family movie and no one there knows a lick about anything other than how to read a script. I checked online with Family Mobile and T-MOBILE and both websites, after entering IMEI, I shouldn't have any problem and to sign up for a contract with them today! But talking on the phone family mobile said it is impossible to switch a Sprint phone over to them because you can't switch a Sprint phone to be used on T-Mobile. Which I know is baloney....
I just wanna use my phone with my same number and stuff... Idk why this is so difficult.
This may be a stupid question but I'm definitely stupid and uneducated in this department and would love some advice/assistance...
Please and thanks
I'd keep pursuing Sprint. Did they confirm it's SIM unlocked? If they said it can't be unlocked as is, then it suggests it's SIM locked. Only Sprint can unlock it but there is a thread about unlocking it yourself.
The phone may need to be reactivated on the seller's Sprint account and then unlocked. But Sprint has a time period a phone needs to be activated before they'll unlock it. That may complicate things more.
Contact the eBay seller since he/she locked it and therefore know the code, or, contact Sprint to unlock it, it is a relatively straightforward solution nowadays, service providers don't hold people and phones hostage like they used to.
