Nexus 4 Digitizer issue - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have inherited a Nexus 4 and I am about to do some repairs on it to get it back to new. It looks like the digitizer is faulty as you can see attached.
On the bottom there is a box that does not seem to register anything. Am I correct in thinking this is the digitizer that is broken? I will probably replace the whole LCD at the same time as it is too much of a hassle from the looks of it to replace the digitizer alone. It looks like I will replace the power and volume buttons whilst it is open at the same time.
Can I get a confirmation that you would agree this is a digitizer fault or something else?
Thanks!

Alright, Thanks! I will order one now and get it replaced.

Have the same issue
On my mako I have the same box, on the middle of the screen. In previous posts I asked what it could be and eliminated everything through to the digitizer.
Can you update when you made the repairs if it was indeed the digitizer and how much did it cost to repair it?
I still have the issue but fixing it didn't seem worth the money on the parts.

Replacing the LCD and digitizer fixed it.
I bought this part to replace the entire thing: https://www.replacebase.co.uk/lg-ne...-screen-with-chassis-and-bezel-original-5043/

brocken screen

right i dropped my brand new exec which id claimed on insurance doh! now i have a blurred screen, the touch part still works an i can still make out whats on the screen but there is a crack in the corner & the whole screen is almost white, do i need to replace the whole lcd or just the touch screen top part? iv been looking on ebay and have seen just the touch part going for about £12 whereas the whole lcd section is roughly £100
Seems like you have a broken lcd, even if some touchscreen are mounted on top of the lcd screen on a separate fine glass sheet, since you say that the digitizer (touchscreen) still works, the crack will almost surely be in the LCD screen's own glass, so no hope for you, go for the entire screen and change it if you can of have done by a qualified technician.
Sorry for the bad news and make a very deep research at Ebay, you might find it for less, might be buying another universal whose defect is not the display, it's not an uncommon thing to see defective PDAs for sale there.
bye

looks like your digitizer is broken.
however in the link that Dharkaron had posted (http://www.cellulardr.com/products.php?cat=513), there is replacement screen for around $180, it should contain digitizer in it, but i would check before purchase.
if thats a digitizer only, it should not spread, but you are in risk of damaging your lcd display. (not really relevant if you cant get digitizer by itself though)
Sorry but it looks more like your protection sheet is broken try to take that of maybe it will help ;-)
screen protector u mean? no its not tht I checked tht already how can the protector break its not solid ...so digitizer for $180 that expensive I rather wait for some time and get a new one
well, its the whole screen for 180, but it does not say that it does come with digitizer, so it actually maybe wiyhout one, that is why i would check, digitizer for my old sony was around 100 and it was only digitizer, without lcd, so i would wait and see if you can find digitizer by itself (as long as it is actually separate part and not integrated somehow with lcd...) good luck on your hunt.
@WvaanWaas
screeen protector, as like piece of elastic transparent film broken that way? very unlikely my friend.

There is no way to tell how long it will work. Could work for a day, could work for a year. Chances of further cracks? There is always a chance a crack will get bigger as it's subjected to day to day use. Also, please don't bump your own post, especially after less than a day of waiting. We have lives and don't sit here just to answer people's questions.
This link is just the digitizer, like i said prices seem high to me.

Just saw this, might be all you need if the touchscreen still works on your phone.

ok i am confused..the broken screen of my g1 is it digitizer or the faceplate? my touch screen is perfect like before even on the cracked part it works like it used to do...i cant feel the crack probably because of the screen protector..if thts the faceplate then its gud

it is digitizer also known as touch screen, faceplate thats whats around (black frame) digitizer/touchscreen is not there, and that is what failed in yours. digitizer/touch screen.
this will not fix the problem: http://www.cellulardr.com/G1FaceplateBlk.htm
this will work: http://www.cellulardr.com/G1FaceplateDigitizerBlk.htm
I think I will continue to use it and wait for some time till I can find cheap digitizer

It's pretty clear according to the description on Cellulardr that the LCD and the Touch screen digitizer are separate products. The digitizer is about 190$.

The glass of the digitizer is broken my friend. Your screen protector should be intact. The LCD should most likely be intact but there no way of telling it 100% by looking at those pictures even though they were good. It doesn't look that bad but it will most likely get worse. Just use gently contact and do not press the screen. You may notice that the digitizer may not respond exactly like before but pretty good. Now there's a bigger risk your LCD will get broke as well if it is subject to heavy pressure.

No the faceplate is just the plastic frame around/above the digitizer. You need the digitizer. Unfortunately CellularDR doesn't sell the digitizer itself but instead they have package of the faceplate+digitizer. That part including many others are out of stock looking at their site.
r4yd3n -> I don't know where you live but if you live in the US or Canada you should be able to order repair parts however if I were you I would send it in. Remember, Cellulardr have strict rules of not shipping outside USA and Canada (Confirmed in email) except probably if you're an american/canadian working overseas.
well the touch screen is still working like before I am surprised ...no effect of broken digitizer on the touch screen
meh
I broke my screen christmas eve
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/members/dzknockout/albums/mine/1605-phone.jpg
(Still fully funtional)
I say leave it till its necessary to get a new one. And rather than buy replacement parts for an arm and a leg, you can send it back to t-mobile for like $110 (provided you have insurance. But honestly, a broken screen isn't that big a deal if it's fully funtional. And my screen is way more f*cked up than yours
ohh yea urz is way too much cracked then my screen ...ok so I will continue to use it and wait for something better.
Good News Google G1 Digitizer Only Now available
Good news guys I just noticed that www.cellulardr.com now sells the Tmobile Google G1 Window Lens with Digitizer only at a lower price: http://www.cellulardr.com/G1Digitizer.htm
They don't have a picture yet so just to be sure I called them and confirmed that this is the correct part. Basically this is the Window Lens Glass with the Touch Screen Digitizer and has the Flex Cable attached to it. It does not include the LCD but I understand that most people that have broken their phone, have only damaged this part.
Hope this helps you guys.
P.S. They told me that they have a limited quantity in stock so if you really need it, jump on it.

Replace Touch screen

Hello,
i have a cigarette dropped on my touch screen and want a replacement screen for it. Where can i buy one ?
i have bought this: http://mobile.brando.com/htc-touch-diamond-2-replacement-lcd-display_p04369c0696d088.html
but this is the lcd, not the touch screen ???
you have to buy digitizer something like that

Exactly....But the touch screen digitizer is very hard to replace. I have taken mine apart only to find it near impossible to replace without damaging the rest of the phone. I only wanted to replace the housing, but you must replace the housing and digitizer together.
NOTE: If you attempt this, remember to remove the stickers over the little ribbon cables before sliding them out. Found that one out the hard way.
Your best bet would be to send it to hTc for a repair. I really wouldn't risk it if I were you... I only did because I have trianing in electronics.
oh ok, any ideas of the costs when sending it to a repair center ?
The repair cost me 157 euros for replacing the housing and touchscreen sensor.
And if you want to prevent further costs with such issues .... uh ... quit smoking

[Q] Digitizer Cable

I have a LG G2 VS-980. The top half of my screen was completely unresponsive to touch so I decided to open it up and take a look. The digitizer cable that sits on the glass has been peeled off. Is there any way I can replace this myself? It looks to be sitting on there with just glue.

I'm on same issue.
mine is the screen not responsive about half inch.
Take a look the attached.
I'm assuming this is hardware relative since this happens in recovery mode.

Yes, It's hardware. My first thought was do a factory reset, but no luck. I know there are several places online to get and new digitizer or digitizer plus LCD combo, both are sold with new ribbons already connected to the digitizer. I'm just trying to find if I can reconnect the ribbons myself without having to buy a $70 and up digitizer and LCD combo. It came loose completely by itself. I've never dropped the phone or mistreated it in any way, so I'm also worried if I buy a new digitizer then the same thing will happen again. I've contacted a few places that repair smart phones but they have no idea only just doing some research myself. So now I'm here looking for some professional help.

[Q] Digitizer replacement questions

Hi All,
Broke my glass + digitizer, but lcd ok. Got a replacement and managed to separate the original lcd, what I'd like to know is do I really need to glue the lcd to the new digitizer? I've put it back together just loose for the time being and seems to look and work fine. Any risks to just glueing the digitizer/screen to the frame and leaving the lcd loose inside?
Also, I still have glue gunk on the lcd screen, I've ordered some "151 sticker remover" to get rid of it, but it occurred to me it might damage it. Anyone know if it would be ok? If not anything else recommended, maybe something I could make at home?
Thanks!

I am in search for digitizer. How much you got it for? Any sources?
I believe this video should help you. It mentions that you have to glue digitizer and lcd.

Thanks, on closer inspection I htink my colours are a little washed out without the glue, so am just going to go ahead and do it.
I got my digitizer off ebay, interestingly I see the ones on ebay in India are twice as expensive though, I would have thought they'd be cheaper. I'd recommend just getting a digitizer and lcd in one though. Like this one:
ebayDOTin/itm/For-LG-E960-Google-Nexus-4-E960-LCD-Display-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Black-/121465367279?pt=IN_Mobile_Accessories&hash=item1c47e66aef
Costs twice as much, but it's much easier to install; you don't need to buy as many tools, UV glue and gunk remover. Plus there's a high chance of breaking the lcd when separating it from your broken screen, so you could well end up having to buy both anyway.
I read something about the replacement lcds being lower quality though, I don't know how noticeable that would be, but if you pay with paypal you'd probably be able to get your money back.

The link is dead. But i guess the product refers to complete front panel of phone. I did same thing. The panels are China made. The quality is no where close to original. I suggest you to not buy it online. You should go to mobile repair store and ask them to do it. The reason is the panels are faulty and if so then they will quickly replace it. I did couple of time after which got a better one.
