Upon initial startup of my new Axon 7 I was met with the option to clone my old android phone via NFC. I turned on NFC of my LG Flex D950 then put them directly back to back as the instructions said. It stated to wait for a tone then move them away from each other. I never heard a tone.
I would really like to merge my messages, photos, apps etc over to my new device. I was only able to merge the google accounts though and have no idea how to get back to initial setup or back to the clone option I was met with at the beginning of phone setup.
Probably have to factory reset the phone and try again?
Another options, for text, is to use "SMS backup" and backupe all your messages on your old phone, then transfer the files to your A7 and use the same program to restore them. I'm not sure the pictures will transfer, but you can drag them to your PC and then onto the A7. The apps, should come over when you first set up your phone (should ask if you want to restore your purchases in the Google setup), but the app data will not come over.
Oops......I didn't mean to make this a "final" answer, more of a suggestion.
I've used ADB backup and restore for this purpose. It's kind of a pain but it works.
What exactly did it backup?
It backs up all your apps. and data. But no files (eg. no pictures, music, etc.)
IIRC it goes something like this:
adb backup -f mybackup.ab -apk -all
adb restore mybackup.ab

i have a 2Gig memory card that i used with my first touch, i back up my info to the card using SPB back up...then one day my touch started to bug out and took it in the repair store and the coulnd fix the phone so they gave me a new one.
here is the problem, they were not able to get my contacts out so i lost all my numbers.
Do the contacts get backed up with the SPB back up app? if so is there any way to extract them from the card?
i put the card in my PC and i do see the file "spb back up" with the date and all but i clik it and it does not open or recognize the program..
please help me get my numbers back
thanks.
put the card in the phone and try to restore from there. you might have to reinstall SPB backup first. the only way to know if your contacts are there is (1) you selected to back them up or (2) when you restore your backup they are available to you. if you do recover your contacts, i suggest you use MS Outlook (on your PC) to backup your contacts. once there, you can create an Excel .csv file as a backup. good luck.
the thing is that the first touch was not working due to probably a bug of some sort....that problem got backed up into the back up file...
i took my first touch in the store, they fixed the software problems by doing a complete reset...then i put the card back and did a back up restore and the bug came back. so i took it back and said the problem was back.
so i dont want to do the restore again on my new one in fear of messing it up again with whatever software problem is in there.
thanks.
judging from your comments, someone at the sprint store performed a hard-reset and gave you your phone back. correct? if yes, you can perform the hard-reset yourself... now, if you can restore from the backup and sync your contacts to MS Outook, then you can get your contacts back. afterwards, you can perform a hard-reset, and resync your contacts back to your phone. i've done this dozens of times without problems. i can understand, however, if you're a little uncomfortable doing this... either way, use MS Outlook to recreate all your contacts, then sync them to the phone. it's easier doing on the PC vs. the phone! good luck.
Hi,
I've used SPB backup for years on my PDA's so when I backed up my HD2, everything looked like it backed up ok. Had to hard reset the HD2 but didn't think much about it because I had a backup exe. Ran the exe twice and nothing changed. Im pretty sure I have the latest version that is compatible with WM 6.5.
Do you have to turn off HT sense in order for the back up to work properly?
I've read in the forum that others have had good luck with Sprite, anyone use either of these programs successfully?
Thanks for any insight you can provide
Mike

I used SPB successfully, except for the fact that when sync'ing after restore, the PC does not recognize the device as a device that was already connected, and sets up a new Mobile-pc connection (which makes a second connection on the mobile, and can cause problem sync'ing mail).
I have read that others had problems with restored SMSs when using SPB, I did not check that.
I had a VERY BAD experience with the Sprite backup.
I just would NOT restore the contacts and calendar data,
and messed up the multi-language support after ROM upgrade,
no matter what restore method I selected.
So -
in my experience concludes that - NO backup program is reliable.
Depending on what you want from your backup solution, Microsoft MyPhone is particularly good!
It syncs data to & from an online store where you can view it via a web interface. You can sync your data with MyPhone, hard reset the device, sync your data again and it's just back.
What's more, you can set it to automatically sync data on a periodic basis. I have it run a sync at 4am every day, and it's only ever failed a couple of times, and I've been using it for over 6 months now!
Have a look at it - it should be on your phone, but it's in the marketplace if it's not there. Alternatively, just google MyPhone.
Hope this helps

Yeah, right,
just the small fact they dont back up the data on their servers make it just as unreliable.
(The server crashed no too long ago, and they had no backup, and many users lost their data)

If you rely 100% on a backup then you are gonna get screwed sometimes. Like I said, mine syncs daily, so even if it didn't work for a couple of days I wouldn't actually lose any data unless my phone went down.
So basically, if everything fails then yes, you'll lose your data.
Anyway, neither of the articles you linked even mentions the MyPhone service.
Thanks for the info though
Just as a matter of interest, cloud services like MyPhone seem to be on the increase. However who is asking the questions of these service providers as to how safe and secure our data really is?
So if I upload a thousand contacts onto MyPhone how do I know that someone isn't going to get their hands on that data or, worse still, use it for either commercial advantage or nefarious purposes?
I am not against cloud services per se; however these services, including MyLocation, seem to be getting accepted without any of us either fully understanding how secure all this data is, who actually holds it, what the impacts are on our right to privacy, etc, etc.
Just asking the question chaps. Interested in your sensible views.
WB
I'm with you, WB, I suspect we (the global "we") are losing our grip on our data and privacy without even realising it.
personally I just sync with outlook for contacts and mails and I backup outlook every week or so. I doubt ill use cloud services for some time to come.
hey dude, i am using spb backup i hard reset lots of times because i trial lots of softwares, till this date never had any problems! SPB been really reliable
I've been using SK Tools to backup my HD2 since I got it. It works fine with the HD2 except for one small but weird issue.
The first time I restored a backup from SK Tools, it restored everything just fine, except, when in ActiveSync, I could not copy or write to the phone, nor could I install new software on the phone. It seems like the permissions on the phone had been changed to "Read Only" for all files and folder. However, if I then connected the HD2 to my PC, but select it to connect as an external drive, I could then perform read/write data from/to the SD card. However, if I started to install a new .cab file from the SD card it would still fail during installation.
The way to overcome this issue, was for me to perform a hard reset, connect the phone to my PC with ActiveSync, perform a read/write to/from the phone, then after that, do the restore with SK Tools. If a file had been read and written to the phone/SD card with Activesync prior to the restore, it would then restore perfectly, and everything will be back to normal.
Other than this one weird issue, I haven't had any problems with using SK Tools for backup.
Had always good experience with Sprite Backup, used it on "O2 Orbit II", HTC Touch HD, and now using Sprite Backup on HD2.
On HD2 i didn't need a Image restore yet, but I do not expect to get a problem in this case.
File restore worked well!
Using the default Sprite Backup configuration contacts, calendar and tasks will not be backed up, because in the case of a Image restore Sprite-Software says you can get double entries afterwards when sync with Outlook.

Thanks all for your input, maybe this was just a glitch. I'll stick with SPB unless it happens again...
I've tried Sprite Backup and SPB Backup to get my call history and SMS's on to my HD2 (from a TyTN2) but have a problem with the results form both. Messages display in the Sense tab, and in the "all messages" list if the traditional non-conversational view mode is used they all display correctly and can be opened and viewed. If I leave the phone in conversation view however, I can't view any of the conversations. The conversations appear in the list, but if I tap any of them it goes straight bcak to the Sense tab showing the newest message. Photos for contacts are also not displayed against the conversations. If I send a text to someone it starts a new conversation and displays the photo. These new conversations open properly when you go back to them.
I can't work out what is causing this, anyone else had this problem?
Hey everyone, I'm considering coming from a samsung Vibrant to this, because I like the screen size, camera flash, and Android seems to be stable (super ram froyo) but I have a couple of questions
Will I be able to restore my text, and call logs via mybackuppro, and retrieve my contacts via the google account? I was also wondering if it's worth coming from a vibrant to an hd2? Just need some help, or advice.
Also could I restore some apps on the hd2 from the vibrant using Titanium backup?
-Sorry if I posted in the wrong place.
Thanks everyone who helps!
I've used both and prefer the hd2 but you might need to experiment with the builds.
There are apps to back up your sms and google contacts will automatically transfer with your account.
Sent from my HTC HD2 Android
To backup apps just use titanium backup and select batch and then all user apps.
To backup SMS download SMS backup and restore from the market.
If you've got a Google account, try logging into your gmail account from a computer then go to people and check I'd your contacts are saved. if they are then they will auto sync with any other phone you use.
Hope this helped.
Okay I was just making sure, I always use T-backup for apps, and mybackup pro for sms.
Is everything the same such as putting things in folders, and the phone being able to read it? And another big factor is GPS, does that work?
Gps works, but takes a little bit longer to get a lock sometimes (still quite usable)
And T-Mobile backup works too, just like on any Android phone. As far as backin up n restoring with Titanium, just batch backup apps n data, then transfer the Titanium Backup folder from your current sd card to your HD2's sd card, get Titanium from market, n batch restore
I highly recommend the HD2, its like 2 yrs old, n still just about the baddest phone on the block
Sent from my... whatever
Awesome Thank you, I'll pm you if I have more questions if thats cool?
Ps: The hd2 i'm trading for has miui rom on it, have you tried it, is it stable? Or which build do you prefer?
I have an idea that I'm fairly sure hasn't been implemented in such a large scale as this suggestion. A continuous client is something that supposedly connects a client, an instant messaging program for instance, between all platforms (PC,android, etc.) so you can do something on one, and pick up right where you were on the other.
So here's what I'm envisioning:
An app that when installed on one phone, backs up all that it has about it (Text messages, contacts, call logs, a list of apps with saved data related to them, background, settings configuration, remembered wifi points, etc.) and allows for the restore of all of these things on a different phone or ROM.
This idea came from my incessant need to switch between roms, and the time consumption that comes with the manual restoration of apps, contacts (Sometimes I forget to sync them to Google...) and everything.
More so, I thought this would be a good thing to actually directly build in to modified roms if possible. I'm talking anywhere from building the app in to the rom, such as rom manager in cyanogenmod, or as deeply ingrained as cyanogenmod settings or the "welcome tutorial" at the beginning of many AOSP roms. Basically, you load a rom, boot up, go through said tutorial that is on many roms, and then a window comes up asking if you'd like to sync with your account in *Whatever this app would be called*.
I don't know if something similar has been implemented before, and I'm aware that something like this, if done as I described, would require dedicated server(s) and a lot of storage space if it became popular enough. I know that a project like this would be massive, but if it really became a thing, it would be one of the most useful tools for ROM addicts.
I'm no developer, I'm no coder, nothing. I have no idea how one would go about doing this, but that's why I came to XDA.
sounds like titanium backup with dropbox but with a few additions. i dont think titanium backup does settings, accounts or messages, just app data. i just use it to quickly get all the apps back on my phone.
So either a correlation between the two are built to support more phone info, or a new app
For contact and sms backup and restoring check http://www.bloove.com. Call logs are backed up but not restored to another phone. Wifi points are in waiting list. It doesn't require root so it's not possible to backup configuration and other apps.
I have a rooted and S-off HTC One. I want to keep practically all my data, dont care about the apps etc I guess I can get that all back manually but if there is a way to transfer that also thatll be great. Anyway I want to backup my contacts, text messages, videos, photos you name it. Is there a tool or handy app/s out there that I can get that can do all this and somehow transfer it to the Samsung S7 Edge that is unlocked? Im not going to attempt rooting and s-offing this phone it seems way too complicated.
There many apps on the Google Play to backup/restore sms, contacts, call logs onto different phones.
Document and picture files could be copied from the old phone to a PC or memory card.
There is also a Samsung app that is designed to transfer many things from a (non) Samsung phone to a Samsung one:

Nice, thanks for the link to the app. Seems handy
