My Z1 will be arriving mid next week, and for the past week I have been questioning my decision. Now I am seriously considering selling the phone unopened on eBay and await for the next Sony release. For some of you, it could be an easy decision, but for me, considering I won't be upgrading my phone for at least 2+ years, I really need to make a sound decision.
So I'll break down the Pros and Cons here, and maybe you guys can persuade me one way or the other:
Pros
- It's a Sony
- Quality build & design
- Waterproof
- Flagship specs
- 20MP Camera, obviously!
Cons
- Lose all Sony software-emulated features (like BIONZ, SteadyShot, X-Reality etc) when installing custom ROMs or even for just unlocking the bootloader (installing custom ROMs is important for me cus I will be using this device for a long time).
- Absolutely disgusting screen. Yes. I'm not saying this based on pre-production rumours. I have seen the latest reviews based on retail releases. It's crap. Don't even try to defend it. Period. And this is a real deal-breaker as screen is the most looked-at, most used, and most critical part of a smartphone.
- Shatter-resistant film applied over scratch-resistant screen. WTF Sony?!? The TOP surface SHOULD BE scratch-resistant!! Not on the second layer!! Then what dafuq is the point!!!
- To overcome the above Con, removing the scratch-prone shatter-resistant film also removes the following:
* Sony logo
* Warranty
- The above two Cons will force me to apply third party anti-scratch film, which I hate! It will further dampen the already bad screen and decrease touch sensitivity.
- Why Sony, why no Gorilla Glass?!? I've been using a phone with Gorilla Glass 2 for the past 3 years, and I put my phone in my pocket with all the junks like keys and coins, and not a SINGLE scratch!! How the heck is Z1 going to survive 1 day in my pocket????
- That bezel
- Z2. Why are we hearing about Z2 rumours already?? If Sony announces Z2 with IGZO Triluminos display at 2014 Jan CES, and I'm stuck with staring at the garbage Z1 screen for the next 2 years, I'm going to kill my self!
You see the dilemma I'm dealing with here. I'm leaning towards selling the Z1 and await 2014 CES.

sony glass below the shatter film is scratch resistant. shatter film is not scratch resistant. the glass do not have oleophobic coating...dragon trail is supposed to be more scratch resistant than gorilla glass. and sony updates flagship every 6 months.. and you will hear next big thing always ...
there is a thread about keeping preorders or not already . The decision is all up to you.

That's my point. Why put scratch resistance layer below??? It should be right at the top!
I understand Sony flagships update every 6 months. And there will always be better phones releasing every cycle. But my point is there are devices that are considered "milestones", meaning that purchasing such phones won't make you regret pulling the trigger and not wait for the next release.
This is the aspect why I envy other manufacturers like Samsung and HTC. All Samsung Galaxy S series from S2 onwards are so refined in terms of hardware, there's no problem upgrading every 2nd-gen. HTC One is also a milestone device, and there will be no regrets skipping HTC Two if you own an One. Sony seems like they are "experimenting" with us and release devices at a rapid fire that always have at least one major fault.
Z2 I think no doubt will be a milestone device, if and only if they use a proper display. Z1 is only one step away from this, and I'm not willing to be stuck with it for the next 2+ years.

I understand your dilemma 100%. I'm like you: Research like crazy so I have a phone (or any other product) that will last me a good while (i.e. 2+ years, as you yourself said). My philosophy has always been to spend a few extra dollars initially to have the best, as I will be happier with it for longer, and with fewer upgrades (deemed) necessary, it'll be cheaper in the long run. That's what I did 2.5 years ago, when I settled with the Galaxy S2 - and I'm still using it today.
With an aging phone and some problems arising both from software and hardware, I've been hunting hard for a new phone. On top of that, I'm after a proper dedicated camera. Here comes along the dazzling Z1, and wow... Seems to disappoint - even if it turns out to be decent. Because decent just isn't good enough when you are investing in a device for the long-term.
Anyway, I haven't pre-ordered (yet), and I'm glad I held back (- although I came so close to doing so at one point). I don't like making such a big purchase where there's just too much confusion going around, which I guess should be a sign already to stay away from it. After all, a superb device does not draw such conflicting reviews; all are glowingly positive, even if its shine is reflected in varying measures from review to review.
There's something in me, though, that still wants to give it a fair go - but perhaps this is just wishful thinking on my part. I had banked so much interest in this phone that I felt like it was already going to be my upgrade, even though I act with caution and do not make a move without being informed and holding excellent confidence that it's the right choice. (I also cannot see anything else currently on the market which grabs my attention, and I'm not entirely sure that my S2 will hold up for another six months.) In saying that, then, I'm waiting for GSMArena and PhoneArena to contribute their critique, as well as having a feel for the device myself, firsthand.
Yes, I know you're utterly convinced that the screen is rubbish, but I just don't feel I have adequate evidence to accept that claim yet. You might well be correct, of course - and if you are I'd definitely say sell the thing (and I likewise won't be bothering with it). However, it sounds to me that you're making your judgement based on reviews alone, and I think it would be best to test the phone (at least a demo one) for yourself before you make your decision. After all, you'd be the one using it, and it would give you peace of mind knowing it was without a doubt no good if and when you do get rid of it.
Head on the screen on the Z1 is nothing short of impressive. Though like I have said on other threads, if viewing angles bother you then maybe this isn't the phone for you. Don't get me wrong viewing angles are not bad at all, but they are certainly not up to the standard of the htc One.

For the most part your Pros and Cons is right but there are some misconceptions in your list.
SCREEN SHATTER PROTECTOR
First of all I have spoken to a representative in the Sony Center and he told me that the shutter protector with Sony logo is in fact replacable and it does NOT void the warranty. Apparently that is just a rumour that is spread around.
BOOTLOADER UNLOCKING
When it comes to bootloader unlocking and custom Roms it is true except you can use custom Roms build around the stock firmware and without changing the kernel without the need to unlock the bootloader. The ROMs build around stock usually provide a lot of improvements but of course without unlocking the bootloader AOSP, CM and such are out of the question.
Unlocking bootloader does not mean permanently loosing BE, X-reality and so on as long as you backup your TA keys. So you can always revert back to stock based firmware and revive your X-reality etc.
GLASS TECHNOLOGY
The glass technology used on Xperia Z1 similarly to Xperia Z can be either DragonTrail or Gorilla Glass. Both are tempered glass and industry standards. This has already been discussed in an Xperia Z thread. So yes it is possible that the front and back of your phone will be GG but it could also be a mix of DT or GG.
XPERIA Z2 (???)
As to Xperia Z2 rumours I would not worry about it too much as it is just a RUMOUR. From what I have heard it could be a 5.5"-5.7" phone to fill in the gap between Z1 and Z Ultra.
SCREEN
As to the screen my one came with yellow hue which annoys me a little bit but I hope it is gonna vanish in a week or so. The screen is not as bad as people portray it but that of course is a matter of personal preference.
BEZEL AND BUILT
The bezel on the phone might be a little bit on the larger side but the aluminum and glass premium feel compensates for everything. The phone is actually a lot more comfortable in hand than Z (due to rounded sides). No flap on the headphone jack is an awesome feature in a waterproof phone and the flaps are much better now and are easier to open and shut.
Have seen the screen in store and its absolutely fine - better than my S3 for sure. It's not top of the class, but its in the top 5 or 10.
If you are bothered by the screen on Z1 too much, then you shouldn't buy it. I had a look at Z1 today myself and I can say that it's screen is fine for me. If you like amoled or IPS for their good viewing angles then you'll probably not like the XZ1 screen. But I'll say this though that colour contrast & vibrance appears impeccable (head on)!. Everything else on the phone seems perfect to me & will probably buy it later today after checking out some other stores !

Hey exactly same position as you are. I've been trying to move on from my S2 all year. I've managed to hold back on Xperia Z, which I'm glad I did, and was very very excited for Z1. Which turned out to be BIG mistake after doing some post-purchase research.
I've got no brand loyalty, and I like purchasing the best phone just like you do so that it can last a long time without regrets, and I gotta say S2 with Cyanogenmod has been by far the best phone I've ever owned. I just thought Z1 was beast enough to fill its shoes.

In that case, I'd just remove the shatterproof film after it gets scratched. And won't replace it. I mean what's the point having scratch-resistant screen if it's not right on the top layer?? Just does not make sense. It's like wrapping yourself in gladwrap on top of a bulletproof vest
The phone is going to look ridiculous without that Sony logo though.

I actually don't mind Sony having a 6-month cycle on flagship releases. I just want them to release a phone that's decent enough to be held for 2+ years without regret. Just like my S2.
All in all, that was good feedback. You've swayed me a little towards keeping the Z1. But I'm still very uneasy about this phone... It's just a totally different feeling compared to when I pre-ordered Galaxy S2 couple of years back. Like I couldn't wait for it to arrive, so I went online and read all the previews and review and what not. At first, I had the exact same feeling with Z1, but as I read more and more about it on the net, I'm starting to regret getting into this.

Dude, seriously sitting on these forums would get anyone paranoid. The phone is really great and it is gonna get better as the updates start coming. Xperia Z right now is a million years ahead of what it was at release. The hardware is there so now we just need some smart people to tweak it to its full potential.
In my opinion the screen viewing angles not being amazing doesn't bother me as I always look at my phone head on

Same with me also. I love the screen. I almost didn't buy the Z1 (and instead buy the Galaxy Note 3) because of all that negative statements about the Z1. I'm sure glad I went ahead and bought it anyways because I love the device and highly recommend it. If people want to feel more secure about the glass on the front and back, look for cases!

Well I do bulk of my usage in bed watching youtube or a movie as I fall asleep, so when I'm lying down the screen has to have a tolerant enough viewing cone so that I watch it in comfortable positions. I don't wanna be like having the phone always at a right angle and break my neck you know lol
Also, I put my phone down on my desk on my left side at work, beside my keyboard, and touch the phone without picking it up from time to time. And, my sight will not be within its viewing cone, and the screen will look all washed up.
I thought about it for a while and consciously think about the position of my phone to my eyes when I use my current phone, and you'd be surprised how often you look at the phone at variety of angles. I just never have thought about this before because I'm used to the AMOLED screen, and took it for granted. But with all the talk about this restricted viewing angle, I just know it's going to annoy the sht out of me..
Seriously.. had Z1 come with IPS or IGZO display, even without that Triluminos tech, this would have been THE phone for me for the next 2 years.

I just saw phoneArena's unboxing of the Z1 and apparently Sony chucks in a screen protector (with cleaning cloth) if that means anything to you (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4nK_gDaeas). *shrug* In any case, their review should be just around the corner! Stay tuned... It might not be as bad as you've read so far.

I hear ya! The Galaxy S2 was my first smartphone and while I waited for the phone to be made available I couldn't get enough of finding reviews either, all of which portrayed the phone as something truly special.
I can see why you would totally want to sell the thing quick-smart and forget you ever made such a lousy purchase. Try to be sensible here, though. You sound like you try to be a reasonable person, but I think you were largely acting upon emotion when you first made this thread. That's entirely understandable; I myself hate it when I make a poor decision with my finances, and the first thing I want to do is put it behind me. However, take a step back, a deep breath, and rationally think this through before you make a decision!
Thanks for all the feedback. I've read the GSMArena review, and I'm sold! I just hope I win the display lottery (fingers crossed)
So, you spend a lot of cash (or your dady cash) in a phone, you havent got it yet, not touch it, not lay your eyes on it, dont even make a call with it, then you read the opinión of others guys and then you say: should i keep it or not??.........really???how old are u?? Wtf?? Why you just dont use it and get your own opinión and then decide??

List the reviews you're talking about - not my experience at all
and if you look at a thread started here by a new owner and X Z owner he doesn't agree - in saying that I think you've answered your own question - go by an HTC1 or S4 and stop
Oh and have you even had a Z1 in your hand - go to a store and look at it

I was wandering around the city yesterday with the girlfriend and we happened across a few shops such as Game, CEX and the usual market stall type places full of cheap mobile phone cases. I noticed that the shelves are stacked with Z1 handsets! More than any other handset, aside from Blackberry Curve 8520s of course
What's going on? I asked one bloke in game and he said people just don't like the Z1. Hence so many selling them at a terribly cheap price just to be rid of them!
Any thoughts on this?
I love my Z1 and having come from the Z I think Sony are playing with the big boys now. They lagged a bit in the past, but my god they came back in true Sony style and created a range of phones that top everything on my list of what I want in a handset. Anyone who parts with a Sony is a fool in my eyes.

For any average user the Z1 is a fantastic device. The only fib I have with it is the screen and the bezels: screen is not 2014-standards at all (viewing angles mainly) and the bezels are just way too large for a 5" phone. Otherwise great device.
Aren't they trying to sell them before the Z2 is released? Anyway, dunno... I don't see the Z1 a whole lot around me but those who have it are happy. But I can imagine it's too big for many people, too clunky.
The screen might not be the best but it ain't all that bad, and especially when not putting another screen right next to it I don't really notice it or am not bothered with it at all.
Here it's still selling for a minimum of about 470 euro's, not extremely cheap (the G2 16GB and S4 are about a 100 euros cheaper for example)
Sony gave them a headache with releasing Z2 and they ,probably, now want to sell all they have...
Z1 is best device I ever had or have and it's not big.
That all depends on subject opinion...
We will have to wait Z2 to come in stores so I wouldn't sell my device for a low price...
When Z3 comes I'll leave my Z1 for dev purpose ...and because I really like it...

Sure, it's all relative but it's surely bigger then it's 'rival devices'. Both in volume and in weight.. But I can imagine people being a bit put off by the large bezels and all...Especially compared to the LG G2 for example.

I am ditching as soon as the new HTC comes out.
This is mainly due to huge bezels and terrible viewing angles. And I might never buy a sony phone again because of bootloader/root BS!

I really hope a lot of people sell their Z1, don't buy sony and stop making this forum an ad nauseum "boo hoo camera, viewing angles sob sob" place.
seriously, the phone is a beast, takes great pics (I am a photographer with a DSLR, and on holiday in Rome recently found it easier to use Z1 and got GREAT results than using my dslr.
size - fine for me
bezels - no issue
screen angle - say what now?
I honestly think that some people have either 1) got a dodgy model or 2) messed with settings and refused to admit it.
but on a serious note, please sell your phones, get a different manufacturer altogether and get off my otherwise happy forum
It probably is due to the upcoming Z2 so people selling before the value drops too much.
I switched from the Z to the Z1 so even I'm a bit annoyed to see another flagship so soon (but not that p'ed off since its not a major update).
For me the Z1 is one of the best phones I had so far....but dont enjoy it nearly as much as my previous phones all thanks to the locked bootloader. That is my biggest issue with the phone as I can live with poor viewing angles (I rarely look at my phone at extreme angles) and the huge bezels (gives me something to hold without touching the actual screen). Second time I've had a permanently locked bootloader and it stings!!!
I would have sold my Z1 already but I've slightly grazed the metal frame already so exchange price wouldn't be that great.
I actually recommended the Z1 compact to my sister so these are still good phones...just not for me.
Moral of the story: I have to make sure the bootloader is 100% unloackable on the next phone I get.
Next year the Z4 will be the beast!

Interesting answers. All very valid and sensible. Seems a shame such a beautifully made handset it being almost sidelined for something that may OR may not be the mutts Nutts. End of the day we still don't have the full picture on the Z2, look at all the niggling little problems the 1 had/has.
Well, that's great news! For normal people, at least.
I bought my z1 for 360€, 3 months old, regular 2 year guarantee, without a scratch! The person that used it stated it to be to complicated an bought iPhone 5! Bad for her, great for me.
Xperia tablet Z sgp321 was bought the same way last year for 380€ just 2 weeks after European premiere. Man was ipad user for years, asked friends for the best and most expensive premium Android tablet, tried it for 2 weeks, tried to sell it for better price but couldn't as it was already to expensive for used stuff. I ran by luck at him and couldn't believe, thought it was maybe tablet S, but no, everything was regular and I got the tablet I could never aford at full price thanks to another iPhone/Ipad user!?
So, long live Sony mobile and Apple users!
On the other side, people really don't know what Sony is until they put hands on it. Clean close-to-nexus-line interface, extremely stylish and modern hw, no stupid bugs like in Samsung touchwizzed apps, no ugly dropdown menus like on LG, no undeinstallable bloatware like In Samsung or HTC, everything works and looks just like it was supposed to be.

Just because you decided to 'ignore' these issues doesn't mean they don't exist. The viewing angles are bad on all the Z1's, so unless your model is custom made, there IS an issue. If it bothers you or not, is another question. But the problem is there.
I like the phone a lot, don't get me wrong, I think that Sony would do much better in the market if they didn't have to worry about these IP-certifications - it's a great feature to have, but in the end, if they can shave off a few millimeters of bezel and eliminate these water flaps, the phone would be much nicer to use. I've tried every manufacturer and the only one that seems to care about build materials and quality is Sony, that's why I'm sticking with them - with all these quick releases (Z, Z1, Z2) it seems they are always trying to improve an already fantastic device when they hear complaints. The Z2 has less bezels and a phenomenal screen from what I hear.
Hey guys,
I had just about given up on this phone and was patiently waiting on the release of the LG G3 to replace my Nexus 5. However, this morning I received an email from OnePlus indicating that I had won an invite to buy the phone. The invite expires in 72 hours so I need to decide quickly.
So I'm back to being in a tough decision and looking for some input from those who were also deciding between the OnePlus One and the LG G3 or other similar device. Obviously, the biggest differentiator between the OnePlus One and the G3, HTC One M8, and Galaxy S5 is the fact that the OnePlus One costs about half of what the other devices cost with similar/same specs. Aside from that, what were the biggest selling points for you to buy this phone over the others?
My current thoughts...
- I've grown used to wireless charging with the Nexus 5. I have a wireless charger at home and work which have been very convenient. I'll have to give this up with the OnePlus One. Alternatively, the LG G3 will have the capability to continue using the wireless chargers. This isn't a deal breaker but definitely on my mind.
- Size. I want a bigger screen than what I have with the Nexus 5 but I am not a "phablet" fan. So I'm trying to keep size at a minimum. The OnePlus One is slightly taller and wider than the LG G3. Has anyone held both devices and if you have, can you confirm if the OnePlus One feels noticeably bigger in the hand than the LG G3?
Aside from that, I like the overall design of the OnePlus One as it is sleeker with no branding on the front and durability between the two seems like it will be a wash. So overall, what ultimately sold you on the OnePlus One?
Decisions, decisions...
For me, it's the high specs for the low price. But the lg g3 may be a slight smaller but with both phones being phablet size, I don't think you'll notice the difference. If you are partial towards the wireless charging from lg, you will have to think if that would be a deal breaker for you to give up the one plus one.

If I were in your shoes I'd definitely buy the OnePlus. Worse comes to, you decide you miss wireless charging too much or just don't like the phone for whatever reason. You can just sell the phone and purchase a LG G3.
I'm in a similar situation, sans invite. I also have mixed feelings about the size. But it's about the specs for me. That's part of what makes the Huawei Honor 6 a very attractive alternative for me.
Bottom line though, a phone you have in your hand now is much more useful than a phone that's being released down the line. If you like this phone, can afford it, and have the opportunity, just buy it.
Please go to one of the other two invite related threads started in this section.

Hi,
I recently bought the SONY Z2. I was happy with it until today, my fourth day of ownership. Don't get me wrong, I like SONY products, but every single Sony item I buy leaves me with regret. In the last four years I've spent close to $10,000 on Sony items.
Ok... so the Sony Z2. I was hesitant at first, but I ended up making the plunge. I've been happy every day until today. I think the phone is a really good phone, but those stupid flaps that cover the ports leave a lot to be desired. I didn't like flaps on my Sony tablet, but they've proved to not be a problem after 3 years of ownership. In light of this, I ignored the Sony's choice of using flaps only giving them a brief moment of disapproval. Well, today I am giving them a lot more than a brief moment of disapproval.
Here I am at work, I pull the Z2 out of my pocket and guess what? One of the flaps on my fourth day of ownership is missing. My work area covers nearly a million square feet so I am very unlikely to find the flap. Thinking back to my initial distaste of the whole idea of using a flap to cover a port, I immediately blame myself for accepting a high priced item with a poorly designed feature. I am unhappy and I am doing the whole face plant in my palms over this. Why SONY? WHY?
My work environment is extremely dusty, which is one of the reasons I bought the phone. Now I can only imagine the dust this thing is going to fill with. I bought the phone very slightly used, so there's no warranty. I can only imagine walking into the SONY store, paying $30 for the part, $20 for a shipping stocking fee and having several hours of a couple of days wasted on this stupidity.
Once more SONY, I am unhappy. Your products are always the same for me. I pay a lot of money for a brief period of happiness only to find out that you don't update software, or to find inherent design/software flaws that you wont admit to or fix, or you outright design something like these flaps which don't hold up well in the real world. Yes, the real world. Some of us have lives were products we use need to able to stand up to minor abuse. Not all of us work in clean climate controlled offices where we can baby ourselves and our devices.
Wow, yet still you've spent $10,000 on products that constantly dissapoint you.

Haha !! Yess! Another person with same point of few! I agree, I've been a SONY fan since childhood, started with SE V600 and my last phone was Z1, every year I purchased SONY flagship phones and what was miracle in the beginning , was nightmare in the end, the overall design is good but really these flaps, that " unscratchable gorilla glass" screen as it turned out to be scratchable with soft cleaning cloth : | , also all these slow software updates and unoptimized camera .... c'mon sony ... SONY was first because of quality not quantity ... what's the point of releasing a new flagship twice a year without optimizing it ... they just fix old phone problem in a new phone which costs 600$ and will probably have same problem .... First time in my life I moved to HTC One ... and I really miss SONY but I know that I'll spend another 600$ and will cry in a few months ... SONY you make tons of money and you cannot put a simple magnet charger in the box? let alone HDMI cable .. is that fair? I understand you mate this sucks ... and same design over 2 years now ... do something guys ....
Don't stress it dude. Many phones have little small breakable pieces.
But, as Lawido stated. Those are easy and relatively cheap to replace.
You should try use other brands as well. Sony isn't the only good brand there is.

I do use other brands. In fact, my first purchase with Sony other than cameras was probably four or five years ago. When I first bought Sony, I wanted to believe they were good because I like brand loyalty. Stupid I know and I kept up with them only to start finding that they pushed out products that they didn't follow up on. I wouldn't touch Sony for home theater aside from TV's and Projectors. I'm a Denon fan.
My two Ps3's and Ps Vita, no complaints other than they don't play mkv files, etc. Plenty of updates, I just don't use them, good for the niece/nephew.
Camera's though, Sony for sure. Yes, there are other good, perhaps better brands but I'm happy with Sony. Although I do admit, the WiFi feature of my NEX6 could be a LOT better.
Sony reader, I am happy. It works well for what it is.
The Sony Dash, Sony S1 tablet... seriously lacking in support. In fact, I felt abandoned with the flaws and that's exactly what Sony did.
My $2000 TV. Nice picture, but again abandoned as far as updates to software.
My Z2 phone, I am happy with it, but... the stupid flaps....
Honestly, I will probably buy from SONY again, probably never again retail. Waste of money on the mark up, especially when I now view their products with a jaundiced eye. Yes, there are other good brands. For personal reasons I won't touch them. Samsung for example, I just can't.
Thank you to the person who posted the link for new flaps. I greatly appreciate it. I am a bit tempted to "glue" it shut but at the moment I only have one magnetic charger. Speaking of which, it seemed to charge slower but I have to test that to know for sure.
I understand how you feel as I was same boat during my xperia z days. Flaps even though you carefully take care of it. It will loosen upv if you used it daily. Anyway it has a purposed and to protect from water. As of today, there is no technology to protect our phone from frying if water sips inside our phone it actually is a genius of sony to come up this. But it has also hassle to us. So Before I buy z2 I said it to myself no matter what happens i get charging dock. And used it whatever it takes. I really recommend it. I hope sony should supply us with this from high end phone cause it is really a necessity. On the brighter side I think z2 is the overall the best phone in my opinion.

Same feeling like me. Disappointed about sony.I had use three xperia series phone all end with some issues. But I just like sony phone design very much so I still bought my fourth sony phone z2 hope don't become nightmare again. If do, I will never ever buy sony phone again in my life.Finger cross

Get a sleeve to put it into before going into your pocket. I use a neoprene sleeve I got for one of my galaxy notes l few years ago and it works fine for my Z2. Just another measure to protect your investment and it was about 5 bucks.

your problem is, you own the Google play edition of HTC one M8. You should have got the sense version. The only thing I regret about the HTC one M8 is, its not totally water proof, I am about to go to boracay philippines so I like something to be water proof.

your the first I have heard to say that HTC one M8 sense had "too many things" all of the reviewers says that its as close to stock as you can get.
I guess to each his own I love Blinkfeed, its actually pretty useful.
It doesn't matter if you bought the phone used. If it's under a year since manufacturing date then it's covered. I bought mine from eBay "new" but I'm sure if it's not a retail sales outlet then there's no difference. I'm sending mine in for a warranty repair this week. They didn't refuse.
SONY Great in hardware and Design. :good:
but honestly Poor in Software Distributing.
and I prefer Hardware!
just drop it
you can also drop your phone and crack your screen like me...:crying: then it isnt waterproof anymore and you can cut of those annoying things
Tell your frustrations by Sony.
What can XDA do about that !
I never had or will get problems with Sony products because i make the right choise !
So it's been a few months since I've been planning to replace my old Sammy Note 3, and now I can finally do it. And since I took the decision to replace it, I kept looking at comparisons between all the flagships out there, and the concluding battle is left between the V20 and the S7 Edge. Why I'm still conflicted after all this time is because of a couple of things: I've seen that the S7's camera is a bit better in the reviews, but most of them were testing using V20 test versions, so I believe the camera quality improved a bit, and I'm also a big lover of landscapes so the wide angle camera will surely come in handy... There's also that thing that V20's camera lenses suddenly crack, but I've seen that it sometimes happens with the S7 too, so I don't really know. And last but not the least, the fact that the speaker gets broken. Sure, all the technical problems wouldn't be much trouble if the phone wasn't such a ***** to get your hands on here in Romania, so I don't know what they are going to repair and what not with the included warranty.
Edge for sure.
The v20 dosent have it....
LG is bad at building phones.
Saumsung is much better not including the note 7.
and samsung have a grater devs forum.
Samsung is garbage now. I have never owned an LG product but have always had Sammy devices and an HTC........LG V20 is the best phone I've ever had. Only thing is its not water resistant but who wants to put their phone in water? Not me......You will be happy with the LG.....Sammy is not that great anymore. Plus I've taken 4 or 5 phones back as they have had hardware issues. I use phones hard......LG is doing a great job and under the radar.
Carried the s7.. the edeg.. note 7... this lg v20.. the htc 10.. the note 5..
The htc is falling behind with poor cameras but they have oem bootloader unlocks supported by htc some what.
The lg v20 has a good camera.. and the landscapes are cool... but lg phones in the past have been overheating and dying within 2 years and have had some design flaws. The v20 is big and bright.. but does make me worry how long it really will last with my kinda use.
And the samsung series..
Man.. I love my samasungs.. I miss the oled screens they use and how rich the colors are. And their camera is great also..I loved the note 7 and it luckily was rooted with a leaked img almost same day.. and here leads me to the cons.. everything s7 and newer is going to be bootloader locked. Root is going to be a lot harder and gonna take longer or be blocked almost fully because of this in the future without a leak or a bunch of devs.. this put me off samsung until they can provide a unlock..
So take it as is.. get what you want and underatand the pros and cons.. some will have to do with market base to and witch devices get the most love and development..
Maybe a pixel xl? Lol
Definitely the V20, I just sold my S7 Edge and I'm not looking back. Audio quality is the best of any smartphone without the need for an external AMP/DAC. The fingerprint sensor is so much better/more accurate on the V20 and it doesn't have an annoying edge that you hit all the time with the palm of your hand. Also it has USB-C which IMO is much better than Micro USB, more solid connection and faster transfer speeds.
Oh and don't forget the IR blaster, how many other phones have one? So useful.

There are water resistant cases for the V20 on Amazon.
LG will always be my favourite
LG any day (G5 or V20) They offer smoother UI than TouchWiz ! Samsung although have same specs as any 2016 flagships do, they lag and slow down over time! Also since "water resistance" phone like S7 Edge is being overrated trend they follow, this causes the S7 Edge loudspeaker behave badly after dunging it in water, the speaker quality comes out worse on any volume. Just look how LG is never copying design language as S7 looks almost an iPhone, how LG is being innovative on their own. I can't wait for the amazing LG G6 which is supposed to launch 1 month earlier than the Galaxy S8 (i'm more interested in G6 rather than S8)
All I can say is that I loved my v10, and then have it to my mom, and she loves it. Now I have a v20 and and love it just even more! Only thing I miss is the rear mounted buttons, but overall an awesome phone! I'll take it over the glued together Sammie's and iPhones all day long!

As someone suggested above, you should make a similar post in the samsung s7 edge forum. The main reason why I went with the V20 is the removable battery, the Quick Charging 3.0 (aftermarket), USB type-c port, USB 3.0 speed (aftermarket) and flat screen.

I'm really tempted to get the V20. But I'm pretty set on getting one with 6GB of RAM. I want to be futureproofed somewhat. I tend to run a LOT of apps, so I need the memory.
I had the S7 Edge before my V20 and although I miss the AMOLED display I am much happier with the V20. The V20 does not lag at all, it is very snappy. The dual lens camera is stunning on the V20, especially the wide angle lens. USB C, out of the box Android N, factory installed screen protector, and a simple and lightweight LG launcher are reasons to choose the V20 IMO.
