Getting rid of scratches?! - Moto Z Force Questions & Answers

Was rushing home this evening in the blistering cold and rain which we have in London at the moment. Got to the front door to take out the keys and then it happened.... I had dropped my z force face down onto the cold concrete floor :crying:
My heart sunk... I wasn't sure if I wanted to actually see what damage had been done. All the miles this phone had travelled around the world to come into my hands could have all been for nothing at this moment.
I tried to ignore the sick feeling in my stomach as I picked up the phone.....
I observed the screen.....Nothing, completely fine.
I check the edges and to my surprise it actually seemed fine. At this point the sick feeling in my guts had gone. I had a sigh of relief until I inspect a little closer to find really small scratches on the top right corner of the bumper and bottom right corner too.
Anyway my question is I was thinking to actually cover these scratches up in some way using a very fine brush maybe but I just have no idea what kinda paint i'd need and what kinda shade of grey this bumper is. My paint knowledge is zero so anyone with a bit of help would be much appreciated.

I would say something like a modeling brush, and maybe go to a hobby store(the super nerd kind, where they do WARHAMMER) as they paint a lot, and they may be able to get a good match of color for you.

who has Drop it

Hey who has drop there 8125.. i kinda did from a foot off the ground.. It was soooo perfect. Now im mad. I wouldnt consider the scratch big but i like my stuff pretty much perfect. What about u guys?
Dropped mine from the second floor down the stairs. Broke completely and I'm pretty upset now
MAN
I feel sooooo bad.. and i thought i had it bad.. did u get a replacement or another phone?
I will file a case with my insurance company - I doubt that they will cover it, but you never know...
Was chasing the FedEx truck, don't ask why. I had it in the case that came with the 8125 which leaves the corners exposed. It unclipped and dropped on the cement sidewalk, the corner near the volume control is mashed in and two other corners are pretty scraped up the screen is fine because it was inside the case.
Ironically, if that FedEx guy didn't make me chase after him I would've gotten my activecase and anti-glare screen protector.
Thankfully after putting on the activecase not so much of the scratches can be noticed or felt.
i actually dropped mine for the first time today... i was about to sit down and i was putting it back into its case, and it fell (maybe 2 feet)... but the case cushened the blow. good thing
Wow
Man i drop my today UNPROTECTED.. man i cant believe.. it was soo clean and now it is.. Im soo mad also
Several times....
no major malfunctions yet, but lots of chipped paint.
I dropped mine in the street getting out of a car because I had it in my hooded sweater pocket like a big dummy. It sounded like it broke in half or something (found out later it was the stylus ejecting), but nothing really happened to it besides a few corner scratches that aren't noticeable.
Sorry to hear about your drops and losses!
Does the Activecase for the 8125 have a flip cover for the screen?
Yeah the activecase covers both the back and the front so you can slide it out without altering the case. It uses hinges to cling on but I figured if I used the hinges it would loosen the front from the back so I cut off the hinges and used double sided tape to stick it to my phone.
Droped 2 time by my baby. . . she really likes my wizard. but my baby is more important than my wizard hehe.. rather have a lot of scratch on my wizard than a tiny one on my baby girl

I don't use the keyboard much on my 8125, so that part of the case that allows for keyboard use would not influence my decision to purchase or not.
What I'm really after is to know if there is a flip lid that covers the screen, and whether or not it can be opened without disengaging the entire front portion of the case from the front half of the phone.
Thanks again!
Oop
i used the carrying case that came with it but i might stich some cousion stuff where the case leaves the edges exposed
had my 8125 for about 2 weeks then when i was getting out my 66 bronco i forgot i had it in my lap and it took a dive for the pavement luckly no major defects from it just a few chips outa the keyboard side.

man im sorry to hear that.. ugh i hate that i droped my phone but i kinda gotten over it
While closing the door it slipped and landed right on the topleft corner. Result was a crack in the screen topfleft to right bottom.
Of course this wasn't covered by warrenty and it cost me about 150 euros to get it fixed.
So when you drop it, try to drop it so it fall flat on it back
/Cacti
OUCH!
wow that is expenisve.. i tho i dont kno how much that is in US dollers i know that expensive.. i dont even think i could pay for that just to be replaced
Not only did i drop it, but kicked it just after... i freakin' drop-kicked it!
Was walking under a busy Moscow street and had my hands full when I received a call. I tried to answer the call while still walking and in true dork form, fumbled, dropping it as my foot came forward at the same moment and ended up kicking it another few meters.
upper corners were a little scratched, and the 2GB SD fell out, but I picked them both up, wiped it off, inserted the SD back in and it works great.
guess i lucked out!
Dropped mine multiple times. Stock case was useless. The alum case I have from BoxWave is equally useless. Damn thing flies open way too easy. And, my 8125 has therefore taken several spills.
So far, my personal best was when I essentially threw it about 7 or 8 feet from a height of about 3 1/2 feet onto concrete. It "shattered" in that the stylus came out, battery, sim, and all that came out. A couple of more dents and scratches in the case, but the display itself is fine. I do have a screen protector on it, and I quesiton whether or not that's the only reason the screen has been saved.
Other than that, mostly about 1 1/2 feet drops, generally falling out of the aluminum case while getting out of the chair at my office.
Rugged little device, that's for sure..

Who has a squeaky screen?

I'm going to call up T-Mobile today and ask for a new G1.
The lower right corner of the screen is VERY squeaky. It's really loud, and you can feel it squeak when you press around the bottom right 30% of the screen.
The problem is the bottom right corner is being sucked up against the "chin" of the phone. Pulling it away just a milimeter gets rid of the squeak. There is, however, no easy fix unless I want to take sandpaper and start sanding away around the joints.
I'm currious how many other people are having this problem. I've read of a couple of people having it, but I thought I poll would be a decent way to see if it's wide-spread or just a select few devices.

I returned my first one with no problems at all. but if you can't theres a fix here

I got my g1 yesterday... I f'n love it! But the screen does squeak a lil when pressed on and also my screen is not really aligned right when I open the phone to use the keyboard but its really not that noticeable...
Forgive me for being skeptical, but I wonder if you guys are pressing too hard on your screen? Mine only squeaks if I really push on it.
I've found I barely need to touch the screen to get it to respond. If you had the Wing or other WinMo phone, you're probably used to pressing much harder. You shouldn't have to with this phone, it's built to respond to the slightest touch.
Or at least that's my experience. If it's bothering you, by all means get a new phone. Perhaps it's a dual problem, perhaps the screen isn't as responsive, and thus you're forced to press harder and that makes it squeak. Best of luck, guys.
The creaking problem appears to be isolated to the black g1s due to a small plastic lip on the chin where the screen meets the chin. I haven't seen the black in person but pictures show that it is more of a matte finish as opposed to a glossy finish for the bronze. I have the bronze g1 and the chin has this extra piece of plastic but due to it having a glossy finish, it doesn't creak..it slides smootly when pressing the screen corner.
The fix above works!
I was sceptical, but I took an exacto and shave just a little off. I thought it wouldn't hurt. Well it worked perfect and not a squeek to be found even when pressing or sliding. Can't beleive that little flash of modeling makes so much noise. Thanks for the fix.
By the way I had a black G1
Jcostanza4
No, and I'm rockin the bronze; but on an unrelated/semirelated note
The plastic on this screen is like a magnet for finger juices.
Not slick like glass, it has a plasticy feel that makes me miss the original screenplastic that covered it.
and if you have the ToddlerLock and hand it to a kid - what the eff - Grease City, USA.
I have to clean this more often than on my wing, and it's not the simple huhhhuhh/wipe - it's a cloth or shirt with windex or spit.
(yeah I lick my screen and wipe with tshirt to clean it. Hope it doesn't void the warranty)

This was an ingenious fix! Worked for me! The screen still moves but no sqeaks!!
I've heard reports of this but mine is dead silent when I push on it. In fact it doesn't even have any give, it's just solid against the phone. I must have just gotten lucky. Mine's black by the way.
Sometimes I hear it, sometimes I don't. Unlike everyone else, I don't see this as a big deal.
if you dont consider it a big deal, then you havent heard one really squeak yet. I have had people ask me what that f-ing noise is when I am talking on the phone. Just rubbing against my face it squeaks...LOUD. My friends black makes no noise, mine is a nightmare
squeeky here
I have had 2 g1 phones, both squeeked
I tried the razor blade trick and it seemed to help a little.
Two G1s and put a file to it - and no more squeek. Finally lol. That was annoying. And the girlfriend has a white one - no squeek. That part isnt there.

i used an little blade to shave it right off
worked perfectly
i had called tmobile to ask them to replace it but they said they cant do anything about it
so i took matters into my own hands
did it in less than 30 seconds and pressed as hard as i could and didnt heard a squeek at all
I have a white g1 and the creaking sounds are pushing me that much i feel like selling up th problem is i got my phone new from ebay so i dont think i can send it back also when the phone is open the screen is not alingend this is horrible and i cant help but notice it is there any fix for that problem?
no squeaky for me!
White G1 here.
My G1 is super sqeeky. I have had it replaced 3 times for various screen problems.... every one I have had seems to squeek. Just tried the razor trick... Didn't seem to help. Oh well.... doesn't bother me That much. Embrace your sqeeks.
Man... the squeek didn't even bother me till I actually read this thread and paid attention to it
yes same here!
probably it is a HTC production problem

Well how the hell did i do that? (screen damage)

I'm afraid pictures are out of the question, firstly because it didn't seem to come out to well when I tried, and secondly because I've mostly fixed it, but I'll do my best my best to describe the damage.
Basically in the centre of my screen I've got a patch where the front digitiser appears to have been pressed against the touch sensitive layer at the back and is stuck against it. You can quite clearly see the little dots for the touch screen sensitivity and there are rainbow coloured rings around the outside (newton rings I believe). Basically visually this means I have 1cm by 0.5cm dark patch filled with little dots and surrounded by rainbow coloured rings in the middle of my screen. The screen still works fine, but visually it's really annoying.
Now I believe this has got to be the result of pressure (don't know how, I don't tend to lean on my phones much), and I've somehow managed to apply concentrated pressure to the middle of the screen and dent inwards only the middle of the screen, but what I want to know is how the hell did I do that? It's a glass screen surely it should have cracked rather then dent, I didn't even think you could dent glass, especially not in such a small area without breaking it!
Well if you've somehow managed the what shouldn't be possible yourself as well, then you'll be pleased to hear that you can dramatically improve it by sticking a suction cup on the screen and pulling. I used a sat nav windscreen mount, which did the trick nicely. Now all thats left is a little bit of a rainbow patch in the middle thats a lot less visible.
Hope that made sense.
Hope it helps.
Hope someone can tell me how the hell I dented tempered glass!

Almost everything will bend before cracking/breaking. To what extent is obviously dependant on the material and its treatment.
I live 13 floors up and you should see our 8 foot tall balcony door windows bend in the wind!
Same problem here, i actually did not put presure on the screen.. but one evening, an ugly black spot with oily rings around it appeared on my screen, blamed the wife first haha but she didn't touch my phone..
I got a sort of solution though:
Use a small plastic suction thingy, like you use to stick things on windows or in the shower, then stick it on the center of the screen above the oily spot. then move and softly pull the suction thingy.
Worked for me.. the black spot is gone but i am left with slight rainbow rings.. seems a bug of that too huge screen...
Anyone else a better solution? replacing the touchscreen is a last resort..
Lol exactly what I did to improve mine.
LMAO .. but a shame that those screens are so dodgy..
Could you please add a picture up here, as i want to see this strange thing?
Thanks in advance.

Copter screen protector fail

Got myself a DHD today and a copter for the screen!
But after I carefully attached it to the screen and turned the phone on for the first time, i saw the copter-fluid slowly running over the INSIDE of the screen.
Somehow it had seeped into the tiny cracks around the screen and gotten to the LCD.
The screen has a odd "3d" pattern with dots all over it now and i am quite devastated to see my new phone in this condition :/
I placed it in a small sealed box containing cat-litter and placed the box on a warm place (this was 7 hours ago), but i am not seeing any improvements.
Is the cat-litter enough to remove the water or is there another way to get rid of it. OR am i f*ed?
Hmm, are you sure you actually have a problem?
All DHDs have a "dot pattern", its a regular matrix of dots that is visible at some angles, it is normal.
It's hard to understand exactly what you mean without pictures, but having applied many of the protectors I really dont think you aught to panic
The spots are 3mm large and look a bit like droplets of water (randomly scattered across the screen), there is also "shady" parts around the edge of the screen. And these shades was what i saw growing when I turned on the phone.
I took the phone to the store where I got it and they advised me to get an insurance just in case the fluid screws anything more in the phone.
I will fix some photos tomorrow that shows what it looks like.
This is what it looks like, it is very visible from this angle.
The spot's have actually grown during the night
I keep the phone in a sealed box with a bag of calcium chloride (from a dehumidifier).
Wow. I honestly think you could be able to claim this on the DHD warranty.
I work in an electronics shop, and I apply Copters to peoples' phones regularly, generously using the spray liquid; it really flows all over the place, and I've never ever seen it get under a screen.
You should contact HTC and maybe complain about the lack of proper isolation of the display.
When I put a copter on my DHD the liquid was everywhere, I just mopped it up, sprayed the edges with compressed air and all was well.
I will do that if i dont see any improvements by tomorrow, i turned it on a few minutes ago and saw that the dark spots has grown a bit more.
Do anyone know where the moisture indicators is in the phone?
I found the one at the battery, but it was white.
Update:
The spots have grown even more
Thats why we all shouldnt use protectors that require any fluid to put them on the screen. It looks like digitizer and lcd werent stick properly to each other (as they are sticked) and fluid got into free spaces between layers. Electric toys and fluids based on water dont like each other % fluid are much better for such operations if u realy want to use any fluid to get bubbles off ...
And one more thing about pictures... Ure saing that spots ar growing ... i think they are not growing but fluid is getting off slowly from there and they are rest of it. At start there were only fluid on whole lcd now during getting off it stays only in some places that looks like spots. Leave it for a longer while and they should dissapear (dry completely)

Rather than trying cat litter or rice, by some silica gel, you can get some from eBay, delivered next day.
Seal the phone in a small air tight container, packed with the silica gel and put in a warm place ~30c
If drying is going to help, that will get it dried quickly and thoroughly.
You may have issues with solute residue but good luck!
Thanks for the answers, i have put the phone on top of a bag of calcium chloride (the stuff that is used to dehumidify an entire room).
The spots grow faster when placed with the bag, so the water is probably getting sucked out as you said
Any news? Has it gotten any better?
Well, the spots keep on growing but at least the water is reacting to the calcium chloride.
For some reason it has grown a lot in the lower right part of the screen.

I would just send it in for warranty. Something looks fishy. Perhaps the courier dropped it in a pond accidentally?

I dont think the warranty will cover this, since it is probably my fault for not covering up every little gap or crevice on the phone before placing the screen "protection"
Update: the grey "cloud" is slowly covering the lower part of the screen. Something is clearly happening, for better or for worse is the question. :S
It might end up covering the whole screen then you won't even notice it.

Half the screen is now grey, at least the spots are less visible ^^
Do you think i can use the phone in the meantime, or should I wait until it is completely dry?
My fingers are itching
Hmm, checked the oven, it can go as low as 35 degrees celcius.
Is that too hot for the phone?
35*c is fine, but you must be careful that the oven is indeed at that temperature!
You shouldn't really be using it (or even have the battery in) whilst it is wet, so i would try and avoid it if i were you

Dings and Paint Chipping On Bezel

The bezel seems to be a very weak part on the phone because I have dropped the phone twice from no more than 4 feet and it has dented the bezel. I also dropped the phone while doing pull ups at the gym and it landed on a bouncy surface at about 7 feet up and it made a huge dent. I'm thinking about trying to isolate the regions and use chrome spraypaint on it, but I'm not sure. I have a case coming for when I'm not in my house, but I'm really just waiting for a custom case that I can make. Any other suggestions?
Got the same problem, the black showing from underneath makes it look ugly. Never dropped it - dont know how its come about.
Let me know how your chrome paint goes.
