I just received my Shield TV today. 16GB model should that make a difference.
Things I've done: Updated firmware, formatted MicroSD as internal storage, installed kodi and got it fully running, installed a few other apps, sideloaded amazon video. Overall, a pretty good day. Until I decided to move over a few isos for PPSSPP via thumb drive.
Using ES File Explorer I attempted a simple copying to the internal drive. Multiple times at random points I get a message saying that the copy has failed, and a retry button. Did that a handful of times thinking eventually it'd pan out and that maybe something like daydream kicking in was causing the file transfer to stop momentarily and throw the fail code.
Then the Shield TV crashed and rebooted. That resulted in some interesting problems. Some of the apps I have installed were still there, some vanished as if they were never there. The Shield could no longer read my usb drive, yet everything showed up fine when I plugged it into my laptop. Daydream was crashing anytime it was called on.
So, I rebooted it again. All the apps showed back up and after a few minutes of settling it showed the MicroSD as being part of internal storage as opposed to its own entity.
Question is, what could have caused this? And, more importantly, how can I prevent it from happening again?

So, I've been having a lot of problems with the Gallery app on my Iconia. The app won't load my pictures / movies at all. I assume this has to do with the media scanner process not thoroughly scrubbing my device because the silly thing has never scanned the external_sd and only recently stopped scanning the internal.
Is there a fix for this? I've tried a few other gallery apps with no success which is what leads me to believe this is an issue related to the media scanner.
Currently running Tabloonay 1.0.2.
Thanks for any help.
I had the same issue with mine and my old sdcard I reused from another device. I could watch the logs and see that it never scanned the sdcard even if I used a rescan utility from the market.
My fix was to pop the card out, plug into a PC and reformat it. After that it started scanning as soon as I popped the card back in and automatically finds new media I transfer over.
I have the same problem with mine. I have an external USB HD with about 300GB of video and image files and Gallery is really a crap-shoot when it comes to browsing my media. Sometimes it works, most of the times it doesn't load at least 90% of my media, and other times it shows certain folders but not others.
Have not had the problem on my a500...
But have had the problem on other android based devices.
Before doing a factory reset, try downloading "sdrescan" from the market. Free app, will trigger a scan of all media and works for some people.
Let me know, had similar problems before. Are you rooted with cwm installed? If sdrecan does not help, clearing the cache partition should take care of your problem.
first, update taboonay to latest version
second, clear cache and restart your Gallery.
third, do sdrescan because the tablet is really dumb and do not rescan the internal and external that good
Hi all
Finally got my lovely Nexus 4
Rooted it to jellybean 4.2.1 and then started installing a few bits.
I've run into some problems with the usb connection though. It will frequently appear as if there's no internal memory, or it'll let me in the memory and won't let me do anything. For example, I was putting some files over onto it and the box in Windows popped up as usual with 'copying xyz to internal memory' but just hung, didn't make any progress. Similarly deleting files is troublesome and rarely works, I have to resort to rebooting my machine, reinstalling the Nexus 4 drivers and constantly unplugging and replugging the device.
I had the last straw this morning when I tried to move some photos from the device to my PC which aren't opening, giving me the error 'Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because the file appears to be damaged, corrupted or too large'. They are normal photos at ~2.5mb in size and work perfectly on the phone.
Any help would be appreciated as it's very annoying now!
Cheers
Anyone?
Are you transferring a large amount of files? The new mtp protocol seems to have trouble with that, at least on windows. I haven't seen the "no internal memory" error you mention but I have had constant corrupted files and crashes while trying to transfer +1000 photos for instance (I'm using stock, unrooted), to the point of making it impossible to finish. See also this bug report here. What you describe may or may not be this issue, but if it is I have no idea what the fix is; I've personally given up.
Good morning XDA, I've come to you this morning because of some ongoing issues with my A500. It all started a few months back when I decided to try out utorrent on my tablet, everything was running smoothly and the speeds were around 1MB/s down so no complaints there. Then suddenly my speeds drop off to almost nothing and nothing I tried short of a reboot fixed it...temporarily. Then I started noticing other things that just didn't make sense such as file downloads from the browser finishing incredibly fast only to find out the file was only partially downloaded. I've also noticed when I transfer files to the external SD or to a USB drive that sometimes the file copy/cut/paste/delete says unsuccessful using ES File Manager. Sometimes the file will transfer incredibly fast but when I look it's only partially transferred, sometimes when a file transfer fails on a copy the source file vanishes from my internal SD. Every so often when I put files on the micro SD and even a USB drive when I put it into my PC to tranfer files that way windows wants me to scan for errors. I notice when my tablet is showing these symptoms it's also quite laggy and it appears to happen after long periods of being on even if it's been asleep most of that time.
I did a factory reset and it seemed to help but only temporarily and I have no idea what's going on. I'm running stock ICS and I am not rooted. It's just strange that I can fix all the symptoms temporarily with a reboot but a few hours later it all comes back and I have to reboot again. Thinking maybe my micro SD was faulty I put all my music on my internal SD via USB but some of my music files have been corrupted with noise and random skipping through the tracks. When I transfer large files or even large amounts of files over USB to my PC it also makes my PC BSOD but that's a whole other can of worms.
Any help would be much appreciated, anything you need from me to help diagnose the problem will be provided, thanks in advance.

I've connected a 128GB SanDisk Glide USB drive to my Nexus Player and formatted it as internal storage. This worked fine, and I was able to install several apps to it and run them with no problems.
However, when the player is left for a while, it invariably gives an error message saying the drive has been disconnected, and the apps are no longer available. Removing and reinserting the drive brings them back, until a little while later when the same thing happens again. This problem doesn't seem to occur when apps on the drive are being used.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if it might be an issue with a power-saving feature. Moving to an externally-powered USB hub hasn't helped.
I had similar problem, i spent days troubleshooting it with no luck till i got a premium $$ usb drive...problem fixed. Can't tell if that's the root cause though.

Definitely seems to vary by device - a MicroSD in a genric card reader failed in the same way, but an 8GB Verbatim Pinstripe drive seems to be working fine. I'm going to pick up a larger-capacity Verbatim drive and see how that copes - will post an update here, as it may be useful for others to know which drives behave and which don't.
I own a shield pro 2017.
I changed the SSHD with a Samsung EVO 860 SSD (lowlevel cloned from SSHD) some weeks ago.
Did nothing else. No rooting or bootloader opening or whatsoever
The shield was fast as hell before updating to 7.2.
Now it has MASSIVE problems with access to the internal drive.
It takes nearly half an hour to install an app.
In system settings, the internal storage is shown, but going to see the details it takes a very long time , also.
On the other hand, apps will start and play music and video files from the internal storage.
I have a lot of mp3 and aac music files on the storage.
It looks like a Process i do not know is running on the internal storage and taking the performance.
I stopped plex and emby server (had both on it to test which one is better for me) but no changes.
What can I do to get the performance back ??
I have no clue atm.
And what would happen if I put the Original SSHD back into the device ? It has 7.1 on it.
Well - I do not know which step is best to resume the issue.
Waiting, complete reset or something else ?
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE A NVIDIA SHIELD 16GB RUNNING 7.2 ANDROID.
I BOUGHT A Samsung 860 EVO 500GB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-76E500B/AM) TO BE USED AS ADDITIONAL STORAGE TO RUN MY PLEX SERVER. I HAVE MY MEDIA FILES IN MY SYNOLOGY MOUNTED AS NETWORK STORAGE BUT WANTED THE PLEX TO HANDLE ALL TRANSCODING LOCALLY.
1)
I SET THE SSD AS A DEVICE STORAGE.
SHIELD FORMATS IT WITH NO PROBLEM AS ADOPTED INTERNAL STORAGE AND ENCRYPTS IT BUT AFTER A WHILE THE SHIELD BECOMES EXTREMELY SLOW IN RESPONSE. USING THE REMOTE TO BROWSE THROUGH THE MENU AND SELECTING APPS IS EXTREMELY SLOW.
2)
I RESTORED THE SSD TO FROM DEVICE STORAGE TO EXTERNAL STORAGE AND AFTER A WHILE THE SAME BEHAVIOR DESCRIBED ABOVE ON 1) HAPPENS.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SSD THOUGH. IF I FORMAT ON A PC IT WORKD JUST FINE, NO FLAWS. I INSTALLED THE MAGIC SOFTWARE FROM SAMSUNG IN THE PC AND TESTED THE BENCHMARKS AND IT IS JUST FINE.
I BELIEVE THERE MIGHT BE OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AS WELL.
ANY CLUES ? ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Most recent update is to blame I am sure, mine won't even startup now, was acting funny. I never did the SSD swap but I think I may to get it back up. I think the update is to blame for many problems.
Anyone have any luck yet? It's the 2015 Pro BTW. Just flashes green every time I touch the power on for one second but does nothing. I can hear the HDD spinning inside and it's not making any weird clicks or noises like a dying hard drive would??? Lost!!!
