So I'll be the first to admit that phone's new screens with small text have gotten a tad bit harder to read, when my eyes get tired, especially the percent on the battery icon it's tiny.
So I wanted to know from you girls and guys what settings do you have it at under accessibility? Is anyone using a different font?
I left my font as default but change the display too large.
Please share your settings
I set the font size to large in display settings and that's been fine for me. I also increased the text size in chrome to 125%.
make the font larger, problem solved

How's the percent on battery icon on nav bar look?
I'm assuming you don't use glasses.
I really, really miss the old Xposed module "App Settings" that let you change the DPI on a per-app basis.
Some apps have built in font size changers, such as Chrome and Wikipedia.
But others don't and that's where App Settings came in handy.
For battery, I installed the WETA for 3 minute mod to give me a battery indicator I could see better.
Otherwise, I have my font set to normal and my display set a bit larger.
Works great for most things.
Font looks funky for a few things.
I really wish the status bar icons, clock & battery could all be universally resized.
I just noticed that 3 Minute Battery Mod lets you resize the custom battery icons it has. Most excellent. :good:
The smaller the better. I like to see as much info as possible. Still have 20/20 *knock on wood*

I'll be 40 next year, and as much as I loved the 6P, it was just to large for 1 handed use. Wanted the pixel but my bad eyes required the larger XL.

I'm in the middle of doing a major 'power overhaul' and was wondering if scaling the screen density from 240 to 160 would hurt/help my quest.
Attached is the basic density, and of course i try to keep dark colors or white on black themes. Obviously not done yet.
I will say this... In my experience, on my own phones and others (many others at work I have rooted), that task killer will drain you worse than anything.

No problem, mine is a noob-tweaked version of this:

Its in the EVO Shift 4G Android Development thread.
EDIT:
Noob-tweaked means it came with a LOT of stuff on it. I deleted/added some. Wrapped it up and call it mine.
I dont even have enough posts to thank the dev in his own thread.

I tweaked my build.prop file to reflect 160 density, and haven't noticed any significant battery save.
However (as noted in a previous post), changing the density in our build.prop files as of now seems to cause all sorts of clusterf*** with many HTC apps (people, calculator, mail, footprints, peep). I haven't figured out why that is, and for now I've just replaced them w/ 3rd party apps because I can do without them for the sake of having the LCD density I want lol.
Hopefully one of us lands on the answer of how to mod the build.prop w/o causing numerous HTC FC's in the process.
Agreed with the HTC apps, I went 3rd party too. Most have similar (if not better) functionality. Thanks for actually getting back about my op.

BTW, I tested out 140-180 densities, and 170 seems to perform the best on our phones in terms of widget responsiveness, while maintaining a clean pixelation. I also keep the brightness @ a cool 20% (unless i'm in bright sunlight). No complaints so far.
Oh, and "contapps" from the Market = what the HTC "People" app should be. Check it out.

I actually found a thread the other night talking about contapps so i got it and read some reviews on appbrain, just so happened to be fiddling with it all day.
i'm looking through the samsung.git (the kernel source) in the android source, and came across some very interesting commits from Arve Hjønnevåg on this page
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=kernel/samsung.git;a=shortlog;pg=1
click on the commit link for the details
they point out that the colours were actually wrong, and have now been reset. so, actually, all's good - so stop whining!
personally, i prefer the new colours!
looking through the commit logs is actually really interesting. a really annoying bug in googles where, if you pressed flash, it would turn itself off was fixed here: http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=ke...it;h=65799b8cfd15cb61201a0492d8d7799136c4d440
and the explanation is informative too!
What was the point of "fixing" the colors? It's not a bug.
The colors may have been "wrong" before 2.3.3 but that's how I saw it in the store and that's what it looked like when I bought it. If I saw it at the store with the 2.3.3 colors there's a good chance I would have purchased a different phone.
I prefer the "fixed" colors as well. I mean, would you buy a TV or monitor with inaccurate color representation?

things that are generally 'wrong' in software are bugs. your logic is wrong. let's face it, we didn't buy the phone for pretty colours.
and it's not a bug in android, it was a bug in the samsung crespo (nexus s) firmware that's been fixed. only users of the nexus s will see the colour changes. the samsung.git is the boot kernel code.

So are the colors now similar to the Epic or "washed out" as a couple of people have noticed.
I am going to store today to consider change from Epic. I love my phone, dont care as much about GB since it is rooted and rommed to 1.3, however
what I want is the size.
Just not sure about using my upgrade just for size since I know there will be newer, flashier things out, which I also don't know that I really need . .

The argument just stems from the fact that the original colours on the Nexus S were over-saturated and were not 'correct' by any definition of valid colour space. Those that accept that there is a 'correct' colour space are generally happy with the change, and so don't consider the colours washed out.
Those that prefer the incorrect colours and over-saturation consider the colours to now be washed out.
As for pros and cons of the Nexus S, check out the many other threads giving detailed reviews or 'compare and contrast' opinion pieces.
For me the biggest seller to getting a Nexus S was the fact that updates come straight from Google (previously was on Milestone and Motorola are crap at providing timely updates), closely followed by the speed and responsiveness of the phone in general.

you look the your screen 99% of the time you use the phone it plays a huge part in hardware decision for allot even its its colors
like someone said earlier its called bait and switch
and whats worst with this is that they are fixed with the exception of kernel with voodoo
Also i never seen once person complain before about the colors Google used prior to the update
BUT now that this "problem" was fixed i see tons of people complaining including me and then other just lay back and except it becasue Google said it was a good choice
also try owning a phone prior to this with OLED like i did with my nexus one and vibrant...even WP7 has accurate colors for and OLED panel.
Google is just made a stupid decision.

apples and oranges.
still, google and samsung even give you the complete source code for your phone, so, you can:
a) continue to whine and have it fall on deaf ears.
b) buckle up and modify the source code to your heart's content and hell, maybe even fix other problems.
c) use an existing solution.
whatever you choose, no one really cares, you're either happy, or if not, make the change.
so, start today.

WTF!!! This is a huge downgrade! Only reason i can think of is Samsung HAD to do it because of Apple's complaints about the similarity of the gui's of Android vs that of iOS. We've already begun to see the effects of this war with one of the most recent releases of the SGS2 ROMs, lacking nonetheless than the overscroll bumping effect!
Myself, I will stuck with my old stock ROM with Android version 2.3.3...
By the look of it, there are many people here who should seriously consider taking up the bigger icons given the apparent eyesight challenges they are having.
Such as not being able to spot that this is an option and not compulsory...

It would be good if it was just an option, but if it is so, then where is this written?

Isn't anyone else worried about how blue ICS is and about AMOLED burn in?
Meh, that's what themes are for. Plus as big a video guy as I am, (I'm a video engineer), the "lowered output over time" that many incorrectly call burn in, isn't enough to bother me.yes I can see it looking for it but again, amoled is just too friggen awesome to care. My epic still looked very good after a year of heavy, high brightness use. Also lowering brightness will slow this down but I say (w an extra battery) crank it and enjoy the expensive device you paid for!

ICS will have a blue status bar. The blue leds loose their brightness quicker than the red and green thus the bar being blue you get burn in effect although its not burnin but inproper degradation of the leds.

AFAIK Amoled degradation is non linear (like plasma) the first hunders hours it will degrade fast and then it will stabilize and even the blue leds (which has the shortest lifespan) will outlast the usefull life of your mobile easily (at least 4 years with 6 hours screen time a day)
IF color balance gets skewed by wearing out blue more than the other colors you can always readjust the balance, for example with chainFire's app

Actually I hate the black status, menus, etc. Why don't they use light colors?, I don't know. I much prefer the old android status bar color. At least the degradation was not that visible when using fullscreen apps. (I do browse a lot, and a large procent of pages have white background. Also most apps have white background).
I really do not understand Google why it doesn't give to the user a build-in simple color scheme editor, so you can easily change the system colors (such as statusbar, menu). Like it was on WM. You could change the status bar color via registry, no mess with pack/unpack/resign of framework blablabla. Oh my..

Wow
Yeah, so, if your screen-on time can burn out the screen, before ambient humidity burns out the mainboard... you need to put your phone down before you get cancer LOL
Seriously, the half life of the pixels in AMOLED is a mean average 14,000 hours...
One year, seven months... that would be at FULL brightness, with the screen ON for the entire duration to hit the half life...
And you're WORRIED?! LMMFAO
Use your phone, love it, and stop worrying, you'll have a new phone before you notice pixel death.

Spent the best part of two days trying to fix this i guess... I swear to god if I hadn't figured this out, the phone was being returned!
YMMV, caveat emptor etc.
1) Enable 'Disable HW Overlays' in Developer Settings - won't work without this! Edit: Resets after boot! Anyone know how to automate this?
2) Download Nomone - Resolution Changer from the Play Store
3) I swear to god - change resolution to 1441 x 2561 (edit: changing dpi breaks stock LG apps)
4) Reboot phone - fix should already work but this fixes layout for DPI change.
This doesn't negate the effect entirely but it looks like its 95% gone. Other resolution variants work too but this one has the greatest effect of all the ones I tried.
Picture for proof - sorry for potato quality, my only other camera was an iPad - maybe the difference is less noticable zoomed in, but compare the 'mited' bit to see the biggest difference.

LG use post-processing to artificially enhance the sharpness of the screen - not sure if it varies by model or its an eyesight thing, but some seem to loathe it while others don't even notice it. See this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/figure-how-to-remove-sharpening-t2807761
Compare the 'm i t' bit of that picture i linked - top (default) one has a very strong white outline, while it's barely/not there in the bottom one.

Compare the 'm i t' bit of that picture i linked - top (default) one has a very strong white outline, while it's barely/not there in the bottom one.

There's an easy fix for that. The fault is imbalance of the colors/contrast.
The fix is definitely to modify contrast and such either from settings>accessibility>color adjustment or by using trickstermod.

Nope, that only makes it worse. It's nothing to do with contrast, read the link for more details.

Spent the best part of two days trying to fix this i guess... I swear to god if I hadn't figured this out, the phone was being returned!
YMMV, caveat emptor etc.
1) Enable 'Disable HW Overlays' in Developer Settings - won't work without this!
2) Download Nomone - Resolution Changer from the Play Store
3) I swear to god - change resolution to 1441 x 2561 ( optional: also change dpi to 540 for better layout - not required for fix itself)

Enjoy, and please let me know if it does/doesn't work for you :good:

By changing the resolution, doesn't that break native lg apps?

That resolution is bs, phone resolution=DPI and going below 540 you'll end up with a bootlooping sausage fest.

I own the phone since its release and I still can't see this sharpening thing that people are talking about.

Exactly my point, even though I've been with AMOLED phones since 2011. I do really not like the constant LCD backlight which messes with dark colors and makes the "Retro TV" lock animation look dumb...

Jesus Christ, who pissed in your corn flakes? Are you going to continue to winge and make unsubstantiated claims in this thread, or do you have anything useful to contribute?
Heres a pic of the set resolution - and no, a lower dpi doesn't cause a bootloop? Wtf? http://i.imgur.com/kaUzPCc.png

You don't believe me? Alright go back to stock resolution, go set DPI at 510 through build.prop and reboot. Goodluck.

Thanks for the tip! Really like the way the screen looks after this. Only issue I have found so far is Swiftkey won't display properly now.. But the google keyboard and lg keyboard do. Thanks again!
Thanks OP! I do notice the difference, and without changing the DPI it hasn't affected any of my other programs so far.
Is it whiny to ask for more screenshots?

I didn't want to waste a spot and say thanks but my phone just FC's the app when trying to use the thanks button. So thank you for the write up and also turning me on to that app.:thumbup:

Doesn't work for me, anti-aliasing still there.

I don't know how you can't see the sharpening?
It disappeared for me after I changed launchers and dpi (maybe just got used to it) but I definitely noticed it when I first got the phone. Irritated me a lot, put awkward strain of my eyes :/
